Playa Marina Walk-in Urgent Care Center

This place makes the DMV look like paradise. They take forever and keep you in the dark about where you stand in the queue so you can’t do anything else in the meantime. They also somehow call people who arrive after you. Best of all — thanks to the long wait times spent in the waiting area, you’ll definitely get sick by the time you leave!

Had to wait an hour before receptionist would talk to me. It was then he told me they don’t take my insurance. Thanks dude. Couldn’t take 30 seconds anytime before that. Lazy.

Okay am giving them a two as some past visits have been okay, but the latest one was terrible.
Went in with aproblem and a doctor’s assistant did not know how to deal with it, it became clear. She treated it incorrectly. I asked to see a doctor, but was told he could not come. So I never got to see a doctor even.
Like some of the other posters, I think our medical system is just an embarrassment. It’s like being in a Third World country when the treatment you get at a medical facility is exactly what a person could do for themselves at home. We are far and away the most expensive, and worst, medical system of any industrialized nation.
Please, people, stand up and complain! The doctors I know who care about their patients and see what is going on all say we need single-​payer and need it immediately

Unfortunately my kids & I have been to this urgent care on many occasions in the last 10 years (give or take a few years) and we have been fortunate enough to have never experienced a negative visit. The nurses are awesome, every single one (Delia) and the doctors are fantastic! Even the front receptions are friendly and helpful. My son has had stitches here when he was only (3 years old) and he was so relaxed he fell to sleep. 6 years later and we still visit here!

If you have insurance coverage for urgent care DO NOT GO HERE!!! They advertise it as urgent care but it is not registered so insurance does not consider it as such. I have $ 0 copy for urgent care and now have to pay $ 200+. I wish they would let the public know that. Plus doctor charging so much for literally sending my prescription to the pharmacy and ended up being incorrect one. I ended up at other urgent care a week later. Recommend cedars Sinai urgent care in culver city!

Our son came home from school one Thursday with a rash on his legs. The next day it was all over his arms too and I had decided not to send him to school and taken him to the Urgent Care.
I was horrified when I heard it was Scarlett Fever but the doctor reassured me that it was nothing to worry about and put him on antibiotics for 10 days.
The rash was cleared the next day! And he was back to school on Tuesday.
If you or someone you know develops a sudden rash that feels warm to touch, please see a doctor immediately.
I’m surprised to see so many negative reviews about this place. They were absolutely super nice to us, although my son had a contagious disease at the time. No discrimination, no panic whatsoever. I would have flipped! Lucky you, I’m not a doctor lol.

a hidden gem! both times i’ve come here as a walk-​in i’ve been seen within the hour by a competent, friendly dr or physician’s assistant that has correctly diagnosed my malady and treated it. a great alternative for something ‘urgent’ when it takes weeks to get an appt with my primary dr, who is also 20 minutes further away. they are part of the ucla system so they have access to and update my primary care records. bonus!

My 20 y/​o daughter is in Cali from Texas on internship. 103 – 104 temp, pulse125, throat on fire arrives at 9a. Feels like death, shaking chills. Snippy receptionist makes her feel a bother for asking insurance questions. Paid out of network cash. Seen by tech 1^st who swabs throat for strep. Left in cold room for awhile, still shaking chills, no offer of blanket. Dr walks in does NOT examine daughter just said strep test is positive. Daughter explains she has one kidney concerned needs aggressive treatment to protect kidney, also ask to have urine test to make sure other symptoms are not hiding UTI (really bad thing with one kidney). Dr agrees, left in room again still no comfort measures offered. Later told test shows dehydration, (also bad for kidney) daughter states had 104 over night and difficult to swallow could she get some water while she waited. Brought 1 small Dixie cup only. No IV hydration offered. Dr said she would order antibiotic script which in the past my daughter has learned does not work for her. Asked for a different one. Dr consented. She also asked for a topical anesthetic lidocaine for the pain, Dr refused saying she could just get OTC and left, still never, ever examining her. Before my daughter left she had to correct them as they tried to give her the wrong script. Twice. My daughter finally left after 3 hours. No examination by a dr. A script based solely on a swab test and no care given to treat her fever or dehydration. A refusal to give her a medicine that would help her get down liquid for rehydration (and the OTC med she suggested did not work). And finally she was not offered any comfort measures or treated with consideration especially by the front desk. The next day she still felt horrible and unable to swallow. The clinic with a new Dr that day REFUSED to see her to give her an adequate exam and necessary scripts without her paying out of pocket again even though it was their mismanagement!!! I called in a favor from a friend in Texas to call in scripts to California to help her get well. Her treatment was deplorable on a human and medical level. I know people don’t like working on the 4 th of July but I was working and so were the people at McDonald’s where she got some water and a shake… the first significant thing she had all day and as she said, the staff at McDonald’s treated her much much nicer than anyone at the clinic. That is sad!

Megan the PA was very helpful. Very caring and answered all questions. The two ladies in the receptionist office were very helpful as well.

Went in a few weeks ago for this awful swelling in my thumb that needed to be drained. The front staff was really friendly, and Dr. Kuo is an emengency doc who was able to incise and drain it for me. He walked me through what to expect and my thumb is back to normal! He also called personally a few days later with information regarding the bacteria culture taken which is also nice. Thanks guys!

if i could give this place zero reviews I would.
on feb 3, I needed to see a doctor because I was having horrible flu symptoms. I called this urgent care to see if they would accept my blue shield ppo insurance. they told me i would have to come in person. (which makes no sense). Nevertheless, i drove there with the uncertainty that they would accept my insurance.
When I arrived, i signed in and politely asked two receptionists (one Caucasian and one black) if they could verify my insurance. they told me that they would verify it only when I get called into the office (btw– the wait time was an hour and half). I tried appealing to them that I did not want to wait around for an hr and half if there was a chance they wouldn’t accept… they still refused to. I eventually got on the phone with blue shield and found out they did not accept it there so i left and paid the parking fee.
I will not be coming back here again ever… very poor level of service. To those receptionists, if you don’t like your job find another one that doesnt involve working with sick people. your bad attitude shows.

Herbert at the Front Office should be fired. I was referred by a specialist and called three times to finally get someone on the phone and he basically said that the doctor I was looking for was only there on Wed. He didn’t offer any other doctors available from their group, not did he ask if I had an emergency or if he could help in any other way. He said there was NO ONE else but him to talk to. And he had NO OTHER phone numbers or info to give me. And if I had any other questions, that I should consult «the internet». WTF is that??? I am appalled that someone like him works in patient care or wellness. His customer service disgusts me. Santa Monica Bay Physicians and UCLA Playa Marina needs to reevaluate who they have representing their group on the front line office. An abomination of service.

Needing to visit urgent care is never desirable. However, if you find yourself in a situation that warrants a visit… Playa Marina Walk-​in Urgent Care is the place to go. The entire staff at Playa Marina is just lovely! The team there made a very unpleasant event much more comfortable and calming.

Closed the morning of JULY 5! What part of ‘Urgent’ Care don’t they understand?

Really substandard care given here. If you have nothing that could be remotely complicated, do NOT go here. I went in with kidney pain and got an ultrasound, which showed a mass & needed further testing but the doc (Dr. Tom Kuo) never followed up with me or returned my phone calls.
Think of this place as an anti-​biotic dispensary. But that said, you’re still probably going to be better off elsewhere. AVOID.

Anything works better than an Emergency Room wait. The place was clean and the wait wasn’t too long. The staff was nice and parking was ok but expensive.

While the ER is expensive, rude, and often times ineffective at dealing with urgent, however non life threatening issues (they will let you sit and puke all over the floor, no compassion for anybody. Can’t seem to be bothered) these guys are helpful and efficient.
At least on the two occasions I have been. However they recently got weird about their prices.
Overall I swear, health care in this country are too expensive for what you get. $ 250 for a 15 minute consultation? Come on, why? I just does not need to be like that.

The staff here are not friendly or willing to help you. Even simple questions on the phone garner a sassy response. I would look for another office to go to, over bringing this one business. Find someplace a little more welcoming. If they’re receptionist this this bad, the doctors are going to be even worse.

***QUICK AND EASY***
I visited here on a Wednesday evening around 630pm for a foot injury. You have to fill out 2 pages of forms as a new patient, which takes about 5 minutes. There was one person in front of me and then a child who came in after me but was seen before me. I had to wait about 15 minutes to be seen.
The doctor was quick and to the point. She examined my foot, I received x rays, and then the results of the x rays. I was in and out in 40 – 45 minutes, which is outstanding for an urgent care center. I may have just lucked out because I was here on an off night, but it was a great experience.
Parking after 6pm is free in the lot next door. Water and toys in the lobby. Don’t touch either.

So far I’ve been coming here when my doctor’s office has been too busy to get an appt for 2 weeks or if I don’t feel like taking time off from work. Definitely love the hours and convenience. Since its walk in only though, once I came in and had to wait over an hr, the next time I was the only one and went in within a few minutes. The busier they are, the crazier it gets of course, but I haven’t felt like I’ve been rushed out at any point.
Came here on a Sat morning, and after work round 6:30, and both times the gate was up and I got free parking. Yeahh! I love free! The reception area is pretty small but they have the usual stuff. Sign in, pay copay, and wait. The 2 receptionists I’ve seen are both pretty nice and helpful.
When you get inside the place is nice and sparkly clean. Pretty small place. Didn’t have to wait very long for the doctor after being led to my room either. The nurses have been nice and do their job well.
Both times I’ve seen Dr. Kuo and he is great. He patiently answers all my questions and explains to me different options I have. He let me know what option he suggests and lets me decide what I felt comfortable with and we would take it from there. He’s not the kind of doctor that will chit chat a lot, but he’ll make sure to spend time to make sure you feel okay and that you have everything taken care of.
The one thing I really like is that Dr. Kuo actually calls his patients himself. This way he can answer any questions you have and you’re not getting a call from someone you might not have met before.
So while urgent care can’t take of everything for you, they still have very convenient hours which helps a lot for people who work regular hours. Still things only my pcp can do for me, but doctors are so hard to get a hold of in LA!
