Dr. Howard E. Stein is a board certified optometrist who is DPA and TPA licensed to use diagnostic and therapeutic medications. Dr. Stein graduated from Southern California College of Optometry in 1959. He Is a member of the South Bay Optometric Society, the Califoria Optometric Society, the American Optometric Association, and the Contact Lens and Cornea Section of the American Optometric Association. Dr. Stein was chosen as a Centennial Honoree by the Southern California College of Optometry. This honor was conferred upon 100 of the optometrists who contributed to the field of Optometry and Southern California College of Optometry between the years 1904 – 2004. Dr. Stein is a benefactor for the Stein Contact Lens and Cornea Clinic at Southern California College of Optometry.

I’ve gone here for several years. I think they overcharge, and are somewhat lazy/​dishonest with their pricing. I wouldn’t recommend this place. You can get the same service and contacts at Costco for half the price

i had a problem with my vision last weekend. I have Kaiser but was unable to get seen so I went to Dr. John Stein. I was taken in… tests were run… and he diagnosed the problem immediately. I was very impressed with the service and how professional they were. Dr. Stein explained my problem and was very helpful. I will return for glasses and any other services I need in the future. Stein Optometric is an absolute pleasure to work with. Dr. Stein was gracious enough to see me for a couple follow up visits when my contacts weren’t fitting quite right. He gave me multiple options to ensure we’d find the right fit. After a few attempts we finally figured it out and it was due solely to his diligence and expertise in his craft. Give this place a chance if you’re looking for a new eye doctor, they’re great!

My entire family have been patients and customers here for many years and we really love this place! It has both the personality of a great neighborhood practice with the convenience of a shopping mall (i.e., open 7 days a week, late hours and easy parking). Colleen, in the front, has excellent taste and has always helped us find frames that match our faces. Dr. Jon Stein, who did our exams, is exceptional, using a number of different tests and measurements to synthesize the perfect prescription for each of us. The store carries some of the best brand frames around, at a variety of price points, from the more popular to the very high-​end. I also really appreciate their selection of kids frames, with so many great looking choices that my kids always look and feel stylish in their glasses.

I switched to this office because I’d heard they were fast and friendly. Dr. Stein (the younger) saw me within 5 minutes of arriving, and he completed the work within 15 minutes. Then a very knowledgeable woman showed me all the frame choices helping me to pick out the perfect frame for my needs.
I’ve never experienced such service from any medical practitioner before. I’m staying with this group from now on.

Very disappointed in customer service. Had an issue with the glasses /​lenses, didn’t receive any real attempt to correct the problem. Instead, the woman wanted to sell me an additional pair «30% off». Has the similar feel to the 1-​star review from 5÷30÷15.

Great family owned business. Dr. Stein is patient, kind, and very knowledgeable. I liked him so much that I started bringing my kids there too. So much less stuffy than the other pediatric optometrists in town. He immediately put my kids at ease and gave them a thorough exam. Highly recommended for the whole family.

I couldn’t recommend Stein Optometric more highly. I have been going there for 26 years now (gasp!), including the years I’ve lived out of state. In addition to the fact that they seem to remember my personal optometric history better than I do, they are also very knowledgeable about the latest in optometric products, so I always feel like I’m getting the latest and greatest contacts in the industry. They also have a huge selection of frames, and have always been very patient with helping me find the right ones for me. Also, the location can’t be beat, inside a beautiful mall with ample, nearby parking.

After not going to the eye doctor for about two years Dr. Au made me feel very comfortable and made the eye exam process extremely easy and fun. Which I have always dreaded going to the eye doctor! Very quick and easy very convinient location in the Manhattan mall I was able to go after work. After my consultation I met with Drew who kindly explained to me all my options with a smile and tolerated all my pestering questions I had hehe. Kudos to the customer service here, this made going to the eye doctor a great easy fun experience where as it us usually confusing and uncomfortable. This is my new place for life unless I move out of state !!!

Olga and Jessica went above and beyond to help me. I’m so picky with my glasses… I went back twice after work till closing. I probably spent about 6 hours there in total just to pick the perfect frame. Olga and Jessica are so sweet and are willing to help and give their honest opinion. Great team.

They are the best! My husband and I have been here since we moved from Northern California. We enjoy going here every time. They truly go above and beyond. Yesterday, I was picking up my glasses and it was about 8:05 pm the lights were shut, the door was being locked and they offered to open everything back up just to let me get my glasses. I was amazed by such kindness and customer service. They will continue to see us for sure! Thank you so much for being kind and caring.

I came here based on the positive reviews and I was not disappointed. I hadn’t been for an eye exam since 2009 (!!!) and it was time. The exam began with Jeannie, who was extremely nice. My optometrist was Dr. Au, who was also exceptionally nice, funny, and personable. My eyesight actually improved, to our amazement. My eyes were checked and fitted for new lenses. Turns out the Acuvue brand I had been using was a relic «from 1985» — joked Dr. Au. Ha! Who knew. I will return here to get glasses in the future and obviously for any other type of eye issue I may have. It’s always a relief when a doctor and his staff are friendly and make you feel comfortable — unlike some who would be better suited for working at the DMV.

I called to make an appointment looking for a specific frame. The person making the appointment assured me that the manager would call me back regarding what frames they have and whether I would have to pre-​purchase sight unseen. No call back, so I make the trip over this AM hoping they have what I’m looking for.
I get there and a lady says «I’m the manager» and states «I didn’t get any message like that.» That’s all she says — I explain that I’m looking for a frame and I was assured that the manager would return my call (it was actually the idea of the person on the phone to have the mgr call me). She’s indifferent — it’s like I wasn’t speaking — she simply ignored the words that were coming out of my mouth (i.e., no apology, niceties, nothing) — but she did walk over to the glasses and try to sell me a $ 79 discounted frame. I start thinking — did I have a stroke — am I not producing sound — why is she behaving like this? Then I realize nope, it’s not that I’m not speaking — I’m in one of those places that believes that customers are fungible.
I recommend a customer service lesson for these people. A class perhaps, night school, maybe a change in personnel.
I came here because they take VSP — and were identified by VSP as being part of the Premier Program. VSP states that I should choose premier because «[e]ye care is more than an eye exam; it’s an experience.» Oh yeah, this was an experience all right — — - a bad customer service experience. I’ll let them respond to whatever QI program VSP has in place to address complaints.
Appointment canceled. I won’t be back. A wasted trip to say the least…

Recovering from my first ever eye infection thanks to Stein Optometric. I went here on the recommendation of my sister and was very pleased.
Stein Optometric was very accommodating to my last minute need of making an appt. Prices were reasonable (and include a no charge follow up) and the doctor was great at diagnosing and explaining what occurred.

I’ve been going to Stein Optemetric for years. I skipped a couple of years due to being laid off from work but quickly returned when employed. The staff is friendly, attentive and knowledgable. My visits each time as well as today’s is always easy, quick and with excellent follow up. Dr. Stein was professional, answered all my questions and concerns. I was referred years ago by an old boss and am very appreciative and pleased with her recommendation.
