Simon Morris DDS, & Stephanie Moniz DDS

First off, let me just say that the dentists and hygienists here are fantastic! We’ve had nothing but wonderful experiences with Dr. Moniz and Dr. Morris.
However, the actual administration of this office leaves a lot to be desired and is why we will not be returning. I agree with other reviewers that the front office staff is rude and will try and argue with you about when you are scheduling an appointment.
Also, I work in the insurance industry and if you’re going to stay with this office, you better be prepared do your homework and call your insurance yourself for all your pre-​determination of benefits including your every 6-​month cleaning and exam if you don’t want to have to pay out of pocket. Last year we were given x-​rays when they were not due yet and were charged out of pocket for them and last month, my daughter was seen on ¹²⁄₂₉ for her annual cleaning and exam and we were charged out of pocket as well because her exam was not due until January. If we had waited until 1/​1, it would have been covered in full. A good dentist office will check to make sure your benefits are available prior to scheduling your appointment.
The last thing I’ll say is that there has to be a better way to schedule an appointment than by making you fill out your own postcard to call and schedule an appointment (especially since your child might not actually be due for an appointment yet). Most offices I’ve been to have the technology to look 6 months out from your appointment and schedule it on the spot.

We feel so fortunate to have been referred to Dr. Morris by our Pediatrician. I’m sitting here watching play by play as my six year old receives his first filling and I am (much to my surprise), totally at ease in the capable and carrying hands of Doc Morris and his assistant.
Nurtiring, patient and confident in his skills, Simon Morris is truly gifted in working with children and were so thankful to have him taking care of our family.

Doctor Morris is fabulous. My 2.5 year old recently went for her first checkup with this doctor and we found out she needed a filling. The next appointment, Dr. Morris did the filling and it wasn’t the easiest task, granted my daughter hates being restrained and sitting still but he did it! The dentist and his hygienist distracted her, sang to her, played the frozen dvd on the iPad above her head, and guided her through the process letting her know exactly what they were doing next inside her mouth. They let her feel the vibration of the drill on her leg as well as the air stick and water squirter all before putting it in her mouth. I love this dentist, he’s always on time and the office is busy and they’re really good about contacting you immediately if there’s a cancelation. The front office ladies are welcoming. I have zero complaints about this office and the staff. They accommodated me. I wish I could go here and have dr Morris as my dentist but he only works on children.

My son have been seeing Dr. Morris since he was 3 as me and my husband worked with him whenever he has his cases in our hospital faclity. He is an amazing dentist, very informative

Now why the reason of my 3 star rating, you asked? It’s theFRONT DESK STAFF that are RUDE and acts like they are giving you a favor when scheduling the appointments. I work in the healthcare industry as well and just because you have the privilege of dealing with patients scheduling appts and care, you don’t have to be acting like your’e GOD and saying, «you take it or leave it». This is not the first time, it’s all the time when I make my son’s appointments. The front desk staff don’t have the the least consideration when talking to child’s parents, at least to me. How would they feel if they are the ones getting appointments with their care and being told their life schedule is not as important as the office schedule?
I don’t think the doctors and staff in the back office is really aware of this what’s happening in the front office. I cannot imagine Dr. Morris being like that. The back office staff are helpful.
You ladies at the front desk, get a life! You are so stucked up! You have to bend some rules and routines once in awhile. Yes you have guidelines in doing your job but they’re not meant to replace common sense and care in humanity. Don’t act like ROBOTS.

We have been to three different pedi dentist for my son since he turned three because of his fear of dentist as a result of traumatic experience w/​a numbing shot from a previous dentist. After a long search, we are so happy we’ve found a wonderful, sweet, and highly qualified dentist, Dr. Moniz! She is great with the little ones. She knows how to talk to them at their level and does great job and at the right speed. We could not be any happier with her and her team, including the front office staff.

I’m writing this update because I’m glad they read my review and have resolved my scheduling conflict; it shows that they value my business and are willing to accommodate my hours to fit me in their books. I really wish it hadn’t come to me having to write a negative review in order to be heard, but non the less I’m happy now and it’s only fair that they get a good review because dr. Moniz was wonderful and if it hadn’t been for my issues with the front desk they would have gotten a 5 star rating from the get go. I hope in the future I don’t encounter this same issue though…

First of all I have to say the front desk ladies very unprofessional and mean.
But the most important point in my review is that please look elsewhere for a dentist for your child. We just had moved to this area and I took my kids for check ups. I was told by dr Morris that she had cavities on both sides up and down. We took care of right side before summer and went to Sweden (Europe) over the summer and had them checked by a second doctor, we were told there are no cavities on the left side. I still get calls from the rude receptionist giving me bad feeling of not taking care of the cavities for so many months. So I decided to try a 3^rd dentist again here in us and gain this one also said no cavities.
It makes me wonder about the first cavity that I paid about $ 500 for was for real or not.
Not trust worthy and very pricy.

Dr Morris and his staff are AMAZING. My 3 year old son went to see Dr. Morris for his first visit to a dentist. My son was freaking out and crying well before our appt, bribing didn’t even work. He is also not an easy going child needless to say, when it comes to new situations. The dental hygenist (I can’t remember her name) coaxed him into the chair and put my son at ease immediately. They really know how to work an upset child! Dr Morris himself, is also very pleasant and has a calm demeanor. The entire experience was smooth sailing, and I was very happy with their care and service.

I have been taking my sons to the dental practice run now by Dr. Moniz and Dr. Morris for about 20 years. I have never had anything but exceptional service. Although the doctors all have their own styles and backgrounds, I’ve never felt anything but consistently high quality dental care. The staff has treated me like a family member, getting my kids in emergently when indicated or spending time finding a routine visit when my hours were limited. Being in health care, I know how difficult it can be to have an office that works well together and makes patients feel welcome and supported. This office has always been that for my family.
My last visit was the first with Dr. Moniz. I was thrilled at how kind, communicative, and well trained I found her. It is obvious the people working with her are totally won over as well. She already has a very good reputation in our local community. I think it is wonderful for young people, maybe particularly girls, to see that women can play such an important role in their care, as models to them encouraging educational and career goals.

After reading my Unilocal review, the office reached out to me and apologized for the mix-​up. They were really sorry and tried to make it up to me + hoping I’ll give them another chance. I happened to have a day off the next day & I said if they can see me tomorrow then I’ll give them a shot. Turned out they do have availability (which was unexpected bcoz they’re usually fully booked far ahead) so I guess it were meant to be.
When I arrived at the office, the front desk again apologized for the incident and hope we can get a clean start. A dental assistant called us in and she was very friendly, even I can feel that my son likes her. She let him sit at the exam chair by himself & offered him a board to draw. It turned out that we’re actually seeing Dr. Morris today. I was quietly leaping for joy because I have heard rave reviews about him and he definitely did not disappoint. He took his time and talked to my son to warm him up. I don’t know how he does it but my son, who never lets me see his teeth, was behaving well & followed his order. I was shocked that he even got to clean his teeth, remove some plague & calcium build up on his teeth without any resistance. *magic* He always cry every morning and evening when we try to brush his teeth (which Dr. Morris said is very normal). This visit definitely exceeds my expectations. I’m really pleased with Dr. Morris bedside (or chairside) manner & professionalism (He even apologized for my inconvenience the day before). I guess 3x is the charm. I’ll be coming back but probably will make sure that I get to see Dr. Morris for a while.

Took my son there to see Dr. Moniz on December last year for his first visit & it didn’t go that well. He was crying during the exam but I would assume it should be normal & the doctor would continue the exam regardless but Dr. Moniz just stopped after looking for a few seconds. She then opened a new oral-​b toothbrush right out of its package & right away brushed my son’s teeth with it. I was a little taken back bcoz I would usually sterilize or at least rinse a brand new toothbrush with hot water before 1^st use (I think it was even recommended on the package). Anyway I felt like the visit fell a little short & was planning to explore another doctor. However, i received their reminder last week saying that it’s time for my son’s check up & thinking of giving them a 2^nd chance, I called in to schedule the appointment. The receptionist was a little confused why I called to schedule an appointment so soon for my son because he’s only one (maybe a one year old only see the doctor once a year instead of twice). So I told her I got a reminder postcard & that’s why I called. She then scheduled me for a check up today (May 21) and guess what… When we got there at 8.30am (after forcing my sleepy son to get out of bed much earlier than usual), I was told that it’s not time for his check up yet & I would have to pay out of my own pocket if we do the exam today. She said I have to wait at least 6 month after our last visit, which is supposed to be in mid-​june. If that’s the case, why the hell did you send me a reminder so early & schedule me in for today? They said they didn’t check the time frame when they schedule the appointment & no apologies offered. Shouldn’t have come back & definitely won’t be coming back!
**Update 5/​11** Just got off the phone with my insurance company and they said that my insurance policy allows him to have his check up twice a year anytime during the year. It doesn’t have to be 6 months apart. So it should be totally ok for him to be seen today but instead I wasted my time going there for nothing. Knocking off another star!

My poor little guy has been to 6 dentists and he is only 2. He was born with poor enamel. I am finally relieved to have found a warm and caring dentist for him. I felt he showed genuine concern and empathy for both my son and I. He performed the work very efficiently, he gave us recommendations but made it clear he’d only do what we felt comfortable with.
The waiting room is very clean and has wonderful toys to entertain and help to distract nervous patients.
We have finally found our forever dentist! Hooray!

CANNOT say enough kind and wonderful things about Dr. Morris and his staff. My son, Garrett, has Down Syndrome and is 10 years old. We have had years of frustration with dentists who are impatient with Garrett, who have even told me that they won’t put up with Garrett fighting treatment. Dr. Morris was absolutely amazing! He was kind, gentle, PATIENT and went so slowly with Garrett. Garrett was like putty in his hands. He did everything the Dr. asked him to do. Dr. Morris gave him breaks in between looking at his teeth and Garrett was so happy to sit and stay with the Dr. For the first time ever… I’m actually looking forward to our next visit!!!

We took our daughter (20 months) to this office today. There were plenty of toys in the waiting room to keep her occupied while we waited.
The staff and dentists were very friendly. My husband held our daughter in his lap and reclined with her in the chair in a bear hug. She protested while the doctor counted her teeth and checked for cavities. The parents got brushing instructions, along with a small toothbrush, a sample size toothpaste, and a sample flosser. Our daughter got to choose a toy off the toy shelf, too.
We’ll be going back in six months.

We love Dr. Morris! He is a wonderful pediatric dentist! Patient and kind. When we first came we saw the other guy who was short tempered and mean. Yelled at me to hold down my kid cause he was wiggling. Hello he was 3 and scared! The next time we came we saw Dr. Morris. You read my son a story about being at the dentist and what he was going to have done. So glad we switched, very happy now

I’m very happy with Dr. Morris.
He very easily got my kids to cooperate, he knows how to approach kids, and I loved that on the forms they asked me what does each kid likes the most, and Dr. Morris used that information when he chatted with them («So, you like fire trucks, right? So do I!»).
The front desk is OK, they’re professional and give you all the information you need, however, they could be a little friendlier.
I am deducting one star because it’s usually pretty hard to get appointments. It turned out my son had a cavity, and we had to wait 1.5 months for the first available appointment.

Came here the first time and the visit went OK but I think the doctor was a little rude to us.
For the next visit, I needed to make an appointment after 1pm because my daughter is in school every day until 1pm. The receptionist said that the doctor only sees kids her age between 9am and 12pm so he can see older kids in the afternoon.

It was like talking to a malfunctioning robot. I told them to forget it and I’ll find a new dentist.

While I really like this dentist, we are nonetheless switching because his hours are inconvenient. They insist on seeing young kids in the mornings — when I am working and when my kids are in school. They won’t make afternoon after-​school appointments because they reserve those for teenagers, because it is more important that teens not miss school.
While I can understand the reasoning, it still makes it completely inconvenient for me and my kids. I don’t want to pull my kids out of school every time they need to see the dentist.

I previously submitted a review, but have decided to revise.
In 2009 my 3 ½ year old went to see Dr. Darrow for a filling. During the procedure
my son was very afraid and was crying and moving during the procedure which was when Dr Darrow yelled «Stop it Matthew!» It definitely scared my son that he was finally still, but now 2 years later at age 6 he still remembers and says he is scared of dentist because they yell at him.
I assume Dr. Darrow was frustrated as my 4 year old squirmed in the chair, but due to the fact that ALL his patients are children I expected for him to handle the situation better than he did.
I probably should have discussed my concern with Dr. Darrow, but decided to write a review on Unilocal.Thinking back I can understand Dr. Darrow’s frustration and it was the only way to get my 3 year old to sit still. Maybe my son is on a sensitive side, but as a mother it was hard to see my son go through this and be afraid of the pain then to be afraid of the dentist too.
I appreciate Dr. Darrows concern upon reading my review and explained to me that sometimes this needs to happen in order to avoid sedating a child. I would much rather have Dr. Darrow yell a little instead of sedating him, so I do agree with him in that sense.
Although my son is still a little afraid, I do have to say that Dr. Darrow knows what he is doing and is a good dentist which is why I have decided to give Dr. Darrow another try. My son (who is now 6) has an appointment with him next month. I will report back on how it went and will change this to a higher rating if all goes well.

We’ve brought our daughter here for over ten years (she was about 3) The atmosphere is very safe, friendly, warm and caring. The waiting room is large, and they swap out the toys. There’s always paper and crayons, and the walls are covered with the kids’ artwork.
Both Dr. Darrow and Dr. Morris are phenomenal with kids.
We have had to deal with extraction, cavities, and sealants as well as the usual «counting of the teeth» (that’s their euphemism for cleaning).
Then we found out that my stepmom’s nephew went to Dr. Darrow since he was 3 and had GREAT memories of him and his office.
The Dr’s encourage good hygiene without being dogmatic or frightening.
Parking is usually easy int he lot in the back but if it’s crowded, there’s always parking on the street. They take cash, checks, and credit cards and are really great working with you when you are between dental insurance. They are more concerned with staying on top of the child’s dental care.
Oh and yes, they do have a goodie bag, and a special prize wall where you can choose something for behaving so well.

My daughter have been seeing Dr. Darrow or about 7 years now. Friendly staff, they are both wonderful and caring.
They do a great job and my girls love to go to have the routines checkups.
You won’t be disapointed. M
