The Beast & Spoon

Chef Daniel & Marluy were awesome! We hired them to cook a special meal for the 8 of us as we were celebrating a couple of retirements and traveled to Lahaina for a group vacation. One of our last minute additions to the group has Celiac Disease and Chef Daniel was so kind to accommodate her needs. She was so excited to enjoy a majority of the meal! Our group was a little rambunctious and they both did a great job handling us :)
The food was terrific. We had:

There was plenty of food to go around and we had leftovers in which D&M boxed up for us. Their service is superb, attention to detail from the menu to setting the table, and clean-​up was great!
We’d be delighted to hire them again the next time we travel to Maui and will recommend to our other friends!

Wow! What a treat! Chef Daniel’s food is incredible! I can’t rave enough about each and every dish. The whole operation was so professional, right down to the impeccable clean-​up. The Beast & Spoon was so accommodating to our family, which included 5 kids under the age of 7. We will definitely use them again!

My family just finished an 8 day vacation together in Paia and we had the pleasure of sharing two of our evenings with Marluy & Daniel. The nights they cooked for us were fantastic. If you’re thinking of going with a private chef experience, they are definitely the ones to choose.
Setting things up was super simple, a few emails, a phone call and we were booked– nights chosen and menu selected. Their energy when they showed up was warm and focused as they began all the prep work and that same warm energy was maintained even with the challenge of my two young kids constantly sneaking in to watch, learn, and play. Everything they put together for us was fresh, organic, and locally sourced (when available) and we loved it all. If it is any indication of how wonderful everything was, our boys ATE EVERYTHING that was put in front of them! And not only was the food sensational, Daniel and Marluy were a delight to have in our home.
If you are in Maui, and have the opportunity to stay at home and have them prepare a meal for you, do it. You will not be disappointed and you’re surely remember it.

We ordered four different entrees along with the tuna poke and foils gras courses. Everything was excellent and Chef Daniel made a special version of his favorite dessert to accommodate our request for something chocolate but light and «fluffy». Very happy with our experience!

Thank you chef Daniel and Maurley for feeding us all week (breakfast, lunch and dinner). We were a large and complicated group of meat eaters, vegans, dairy free and gluten free yogis. Your food was delicious. I especially enjoyed all the salads.

Wow! I would recommend this to anyone considering a private chef. They have amazing service and accommodate every food restriction. Very fresh, healthy and delicious.

The food was so delicious! Would recommend this to all friends and family. My favorite meal was definitely the oatmeal, and fried rice.

AMAZING!!! All around from the service to the quality of the food everything was just fantastic. Our menu was not the easiest to accommodate with GF, Vegan, and Veg all in our group, but they made it happen and it all tasted unreal. The selection of menus that they provided for our group was diverse and everyday just got better and better. The food is a must!

When Dan and Marluy arrived at our Maui vacation rental we knew right from the start that we had made a great choice for a personal chef. The attention to detail with every aspect of the experience from the table settings, to the presentation of the food was amazing! We couldn’t have asked for better people to prepare such a truly incredible meal. We will never again need another private chef when visiting the island of Maui because it simply doesn’t get any better than The Beast & Spoon.

My boyfriend surprised me with a romantic picnic prepared by The Beast & Spoon during our recent trip to Maui. Since we had just flown in from San Francisco, the last thing we wanted to do was get dressed up and sit inside a fancy restaurant, but still wanted a delicious meal. The Beast & Spoon made it happen.
Our picnic started with a salad that had a delicious balance of flavors — local berries, toasted macadamia nuts, bok choy and a citrus miso dressing. Following the salad, we had shrimp kabobs grilled and seasoned to perfection. The main dish was seared duck breast over cherry faro (so good!). Finally, we finished with a fresh from the oven berry cobbler. Still warm after finishing the first three courses! I was stuffed at this point, but couldn’t say no to warm cobbler.
Along with the delicious food, Marluy and Daniel provided amazing service. They were incredibly friendly and made sure we had everything we needed — food, utensils, drinks and even a secret picnic spot for us to enjoy the meal.
I recommend The Beast & Spoon to anyone who is looking for an delicious meal, memorable experience and fine dining without the fuss.

Marluy and Daniel run a great business. Our experience was exceptional — from their customer service to the food itself.
I wanted to surprise my girlfriend for her birthday with an off-​the-​grid dinner date during our vacation to Maui. My mother helped find the Beast & Spoon, and it proved to be an exceptional discovery. I emailed, talked on the phone, and texted with Marluy — working towards an arrangement that was feasible for them and satisfactory for me. Marluy runs the business side and comes from a corporate background, and it was evident. She was professional, organized, and a creative problem solver. Since there were only 2 of us eating (my girlfriend and I), we settled on an arrangement whereby we’d pay a reduced rate and Daniel would set the menu based on the ingredients available from other events. They had a large event the day prior, so it worked out well.
We ended up with a salad, a duck entrée, fire-​grilled shrimp, and a berry cobbler. No exaggeration: each dish was exceptional. We come from San Francisco, so we’re used to good food — and Daniel’s dishes were in-​line with the best I’ve tasted. The salad had cabbage, bok choy, macadamia nuts, poha, berries, citrus miso vinaigrette, ali’i, and mushrooms. It was fantastic. The duck dish was duck breast with cherry farro. Very tender and flavorful, and the farro was the perfect backdrop. The shrimp were my favorite part. They were giant — in size and flavor. And the berry cobbler may be my favorite dessert — ever.
Beyond the food, the service was their true competitive advantage. On the front end, they were exceedingly accommodating given our constraints. The way they creatively found a workable solution went above and beyond any expectations one could reasonably have. In terms of the evening of our dinner itself, they invited us into their home to do the pick-​up and provided everything we needed (and more). We left with utensils, water bottles, and a recommendation for where to watch the sunset. That was invaluable, because it turned out to be the perfect spot. After the fact, Marluy followed up to check on how things went. Couldn’t ask for a better experience.
If you’re considering the Beast & Spoon, they would receive my highest recommendation. The quality of the food and level of service is exceptional, and they turned what would have been a fun night/​birthday celebration into a memory that I don’t think I’ll ever forget.

What a fabulous experience! We had the pleasure of having The Beast and Spoon twice during our stay in Maui and both meals were exceptional. Chef Daniel and Marluy were incredibly professional, and didn’t leave a stone un-​turned. Beautiful set up and great clean up. We were so happy to not have to do a thing. We even learned a thing or two about kitchen skills!
