Atlantis Submarines Maui

We let our 10 year old son choose one tourist activity every time we go back to the island, this year he was so excited for the submarine. We got there and there were large sharks at the dock waiting for the fishing boats to throw leftovers. My husband and son went and I stayed back with our baby. They had a blast! My husband was blown away by the crew, he keeps telling friends and our family how good of guys they were. I spent time in the shop waiting for them and the crew in the shop was overly nice to talk to as well as the photographer and the sweet older lady that was checking tourist in. This was something our son will NEVER forget. We stopped at Costco on our way and picked up a gift card for Atlantis that saved is $ 35.

I was absolutely floored by the costumer service from this company. When a family member became seasick and couldn’t go down in the submarine, the crew was very kind and helpful. They even offered us a refund for his ticket.
The experience was incredible, and the people working for this company are so nice. I highly recommend them!

This underwater tour was great. Our captains and guide Paul were great. This was very informative and they made it fun. If you are in Maui this is a Must do.

Amazing time. Expensive at $ 130 something a person but worth it. Very crowded so be prepared. Also take motion sickness meds, don’t wear heels. Views and narration were fantastic. We saw three sharks along with a lot of other fish, eels, and the ocean floor at 150 feet below sea level.

This is a REALLY cool activity! They offer a FANTASTIC discount with military ID that makes this well worth the money. Time flies on this adventure.
Can’t beat seeing sea life from 100 feet under water. The sub is air conditioned, everyone has their own seat and window to see. I got some amazing photos. Lots of schools of fish and even a white tipped shark.

Journey to the Bottom of the Sea
December 13, 2015 is a significant date for Atlantis Maui. For a mere $ 1 Atlantis Maui acquired the Carthaginian= sank the ship for the benefit of the sea and coral. That was 10 years ago
Today, and I had the great privilege of seeing what this sunken ship has done for Lahaina Harbor. Its provided a home for marine life, coral happily grows on the body of the ship. Many fishes; sharks and hawaiian marine life make their home around the Carthaginian.
Atlantis; a submarine that seats about 50 people on each «dive». Each seat has its own portal providing a remarkable view of the under water world. Diving as deep as 130 feet; the species of fish and other marine habitat were plentiful Even the sharks seem happy down there.
It seems you must have some actor background to work at the Atlantis as there were quite a few comics guiding us through. In addition to their humorous performance and explanations, they were also very conscience of the safety for all. From the moment you step onto the transporter, then into the submarine and back out, the crew had safety instructions for each step of the way.
Their check in procedure is simple and clear. If you already have your boarding pass just walk on over to slip # 18. There is a tented area to wait out of the hot sun.
Tidbit of Atlantis History: Atlantis was formed 29 years ago in the Caribbean Islands and over 3 decades made its westward journey and now located in 3 parts of our fine state= Lahaina Maui, Kona Hawaii and Honolulu Oahu

What a fun time! We saw sharks, an eel and thousands of fish. It’s a real, no joke submarine. Staff are incredibly friendly and make the trip fun. Windows are clear and some fish even swam right up to glass. The tender boat ride out to the submarine had stellar views of the island. Check-​in is at the pier behind the Banyan tree just a short walk from free public parking on the corner of Front St & Prison St.

Loved this trip! You get a boat ride out to the dive site and then board the submarine. EVER seat has a window so there is no mad rush to get on first to make sure you get the best seat. I was actually the last person on board and didn’t miss out on seeing a thing. We saw a bunch of fish and sharks and they take you to see a sunken ship. The trip is the perfect amount of time and you really get to see a lot. Everyone is very professional and friendly. Highly recommend :)

A well put together team delivers a scuba-​like experience without getting wet.
Take a short boat ride out to a real submarine waiting for you just off-​shore. A quick hop aboard and you’re slowly sinking down to the bottom of the sea. Yes, the bottom. We hit 130 ft, but the best part was hovering only a few feet from the reefs and hundreds of local fish including turtles, sharks, and other marine life. Yes, we saw several sharks.
The staff were great too. They balanced safety with fun and provided just enough info along the journey to enhance the already excellent experience. So glad we went!
After the trip we met the local manager who took extra time to give us some background on the local sea life and the sunken ship that we visited. He seemed really passionate about the company and made us feel like family. It’s all about the people ;)
Highly recommended for a unique experience with a friendly and professional crew!

We bottomed out at about 141 feet! Worth the experience if you’ve never gone so far under the ocean. Maybe not for the claustrophobic, but if you’ve been to Disneyland and gone on the submarines there, you should be able to handle it. Only difference? You will actually be diving under the deep blue sea! There is no guarantee of what you’ll see; I did see several rays gliding by along with several schools of fish. Still a once in a lifetime experience. No Sharks; No Whales; No Sea Serpents or Mermaids.
Take a short boat ride out from Lahaina and the sub will be waiting for you.

It was fun. It was well worth doing, and my husband I are both glad we did. I’m 5’10″ and my husband is 6’2″, we were just fine when it came to comfort. We didn’t expect to be comfortable, we expected to be entertained and we were. Overall, I loved it. We both did.

I loved our Atlantis Submarine tour and would recommend it to any family!
It was my first time on a submarine so I was personally very excited. Our tour guide was HILARIOUS and probably made our trip even better than it would’ve been. The sunken ship was definitely one of the coolest spots and we saw several small sharks, schools of fish, and eels.
I only wish the submarine ride was longer, and the shuttle ride to the waters was shorter!

Very good experience, perfect for those who want to be underwater and checking out reef life without getting wet. With a grandmother and toddler who are both fish lovers, but not so great in deep water, in our party, everyone was happy.
The staff were enthusiastic and knowledgeable, kept the patter light but always informative, responsible and warm. I appreciated and you should check out the signage in the waiting area on the ahupua’a — or Hawaiian system of land and ocean management.
You will be climbing a short ladder to get into and out of the sub, so be prepared to do that.
We had the special experience of spotting two spotted stingrays super close up.

Barely lol. Maybe a 4 star for novelty and professionalism of staff & tour guide, but for the hype, value and seating arrangement, I doubt I’ll do this again.
The shuttle ride out to the waters to get into the submarine is probably the best part lol. In terms of seeing tons of fish, yes, for just half the time underwater. Let’s put it this way, you’ll see more fish snorkeling instead of being cramped inside this so-​called sub.
And not a real, navy sub either.
Though more or less, you can have your own circular window to look through but if you are 5’10″ and taller, it will be uncomfortable. Just a bench in the middle, no back support. About 12 ppl on either side.

Very cool experience overall. You get a nice short boat ride out to the sub, get to watch it surface, hop on and look around for 45 mins, hop back off, watch it submerge, and another short cruise back into the harbor.
The sub was a lot more mobile than I thought it was going to be. I figured it would just sink and stay at the bottom, but it drove around to two separate natural reefs as well as an artificial reef the company sunk a while back. We got awesome views of giant schools of fish, several sharks, and some scuba divers exploring the shipwreck/​artificial reef.
It was a bit pricey, but the real reason I have to subtract a star are all the cheesy jokes made by the tourguide. I understand this is a popular excursion for families with small kids, but it got to the point where I didn’t know if the guide was even being serious or not when pointing out wildlife. For example:
Tourguide: Want to see a shark???
Enthusiastic children + me: yeah!!!
Tourguide: Me too.
Enthusiastic children + me: awwwww
Tourguide: There’s one right there!
Enthusaistic children + me: Awesome!
Tourguide: You just saw your first real life rubber shark.
Confused children + me: What? Wait, so was that real? Or did you really put a rubber shark in the water to fuck with us?
Tourguide: No, that was real.
We later learned that the reef sharks just sit mostly motionless on the bottom during the day, but at the time it was incredibly confusing.

Definitely do this as a family adventure…
Kids must be 36 inch to ride.
Would be a little more challenging for Elderly people to go on this unless in great shape.
You go on about a 20 min boat ride to get to sub then you move over to the submarine.
The pilots were nice, friendly, and accommodating with questions.
Very cute well produced visual experience.
I had no idea that dresses weren’t smart to wear, bigger mistake no undies def a mistake, but nice treat for the pilots aboard :)

We were really happy with Atlantis and thought it was an overall good value. As others have said, you’re really only on the sub for about 45 minutes. However, you get a good 10 – 15 minute boat ride each way on a reasonably comfortable boat, and if you’re there during the right season, you can see whales on your way to and from the sub. We saw a lot of fish and sharks, and I felt like I was scuba diving without getting wet or worrying about safety.
I’m subtracting one star because the guide was insanely annoying with his nonstop corny jokes. It would have been nice to either make it more educational or for him to just shut up for half the time.

My husband and I were indecisive about whether we should take our children on the Atlantis Submarine. After reading the prior reviews we decided to chance it and hoped for the best. We were unsure of whether our daughter was tall enough to be allowed on the sub so we visited the Atlantis store on Front St to have her measured. Luckily, she was just tall enough and was allowed on. (The US Coast Guard mandates that you must be a minimum of 36 inches tall). We scheduled it for our last day in Maui since we had time to kill before our flight back to the mainland. The gentleman working offered to book our tour and said he could match the website prices. After leaving, I took a closer look at the receipt and noticed that we were charges $ 10 more than what the website would have charged us. I spoke to the gentleman working and he quickly apologized and corrected the price.
The kids who are ages 14, 4, and 3 were extremely excited and I was really hoping to impress them. I must say that the staff were all professional and our trip started on time. When we got on the boat that takes you to the submarine I quickly noticed how nice and clean they kept the boat.(no funky smells) From the moment the submarine resurfaced I could tell this tour was going to be a unique experience. As soon as the submarine dove down we could see marine life. Instantly, we were surrounded by schools of fish. We also saw a white tip reef shark which was a great surprise. My husband and I were glad we didn’t pass up this opportunity for our family to experience a real life «Finding Nemo».
This excursion is on the pricey side and you really can NOT be guaranteed what kind, if any sea life you will encounter, but we were extremely impressed from the moment we stepped on to the clean boat at the harbor to the moment we arrived back. I would recommend this tour for families with young children who are not yet comfortable to snorkel.
