Sheraton Kauai Resort

Nice location and nice entertainment program. Personnel is very helpful.
Rooms are pretty big.
The only thing is a bathroom, which is not totally separated from the room. The sink is half open. This is a small minus.

Wow.wth. Now I know how it feels to be singled out amongst a group of white people for being the only dark skinned person in the pool. Very hard to keep my cool. I was asked to wear a wrist band and my response was, «sure as long as is your hotel policy for guest to wear a wrist band.» You can imagine how I felt when I looked around me and see dozens of folks bandless. I need to add that pool attendant never came back with a wrist band after she said that she was going to verify that I was indeed a guest here at the Sheraton. It was a very awkward situation to see all the light skinned guest around me walk out of the jacuzzi. Racism or ignorance. .you be the judge.

I’ve seen nicer Motel 6 then this place. What a major let down. The place is old and really ran down. Pool on the garden side looks like it was built in the early 80’s and hasn’t been taken care of. The best part of this place was the valet.

Very Disappointed
We got the room on line via Priceline. They were nice at the front desk but when we got to the room it smelled like mildew and the bathroom is in need of a major update. The rooms need major renovation. They stick you in the garden view rooms that are least wanted if you purchase with Priceline. Pool area is nice but the pool towels are like old dish rags. This is a Sheraton not Best Western. Forget breakfast. Its over by 10 am.
Outdoor showers for the beach are now replaced with a cut garden hose! First Class? I think not.

The property is great. The island is great. I was surprised at the hotel’s attempt for a money grab and I’ve stayed at maybe 100 Starwood properties, including both properties on Mauai Kanapali. Never seen anything like this before at a hotel. At an airline? Sure.
It’s clearly a management issue here to make revenue numbers. For the first time, I paid an upgrade fee for my room as a gold member. Not so great. They close the less expensive restaurant before dinner so that you have to take your kids to the expensive restaurant. Not so great. They offer ‘free’ kids meals at the pool only if you either a.) qualify under their rules which change every time you order or b.) tell them you’re simply not paying for the kids meal. Having to push back on some poor server who’s jacking you simply because their boss is putting them in a bad position is not a great way to spend your day in paradise.
As a plus, they offered me ‘free’ valet parking. Not worth anything with lots of free street parking everywhere. Generous of them to offer.
Again, location is great but you might leave feeling like the hotel is run by a major airline (extra fees). Next time we’ll experience Hawaii somewhere else.

My now husband (woohoo!) and I really enjoyed our first luau together at Sheraton! We weren’t staying in the hotel, so it was fun to drive around the beaches that are so close to the location. There was a separate space for visitors/​guests to park for the event.
The luau location itself was special because on one side there was a pool and the other a lovely beach, ocean, and palm trees. You were seated at long banquet tables with the possibly of mingling.
The buffet was delicious! I appreciated their poi jokes, as well as the good stuff: kahlua pork, taro buns, tasty rice, fresh fruit, and other such goodies. Their dessert buffet was also excellent. The shell leis they gave us at the beginning we wore the rest of the time, so that’s a fun free momento!
The music, songs, dances, and performances all around were very fun. We enjoyed ourselves very much and would definitely recommend this location for a luau!

My family and I really enjoyed our stay here. Friendly and helpful staff. Close to beautiful beach and pool. Kamaaina rates are always a plus.

Located in the beautiful Poipu beach. Stunning sunsets, fun pool (s), hot tube, bar and restaurant. Spacious rooms with useful amenities, free wifi, great cable channels (I could watch my fave — walking dead!!!). Clean and modern. We stayed in the Deluxe room with ocean view. I like the side away from the pool. Nice and quiet
Staff are welcoming and show their guests Aloha. Room service is fast considering the size of the hotel; food is pretty good. We’ve stayed at many Sheratons and this one has an upgraded menu (lol).

Overall ok. However, they charged 10 dollar extra for a room service. It cost me 27 dollar for a cheeseburger from the child menu. It does not make No sense.

The Sheraton Ocean view side was right on the beach. Nice large room, Had a patio with 2 chairs and a table. We could watch the sunset everyday from our room or from the grassy area right in front of the Sheraton. Nice white sandy beaches. Pool had plenty of loungers, cabanas and beach front covered loungers. There is also another part of the hotel with garden views and a pool. Place was beautiful and clean. Laundry facilities too and parking across the street with no fees for parking. Laundry was $ 2 a load.
We didn’t eat at the restaurant. Went exploring and there was plenty of other places to eat.

I just want to thank the Sheraton on Kauai for everything, especially Lonnie at the front desk. My husband got the flu and our flight didn’t leave until 10:45 PM. Lonnie arranged for us to stay in our room until we left so my husband could rest all day. And she waived the late checkout fee because he was sick. We will definitely stay at the Sheraton in the future whenever possible. That’s what I call customer service!

This year in Kauai we did a «Westin» tour. First the St. Regis (amazing), then Princeville Villas (not amazing), and finished with the Sheraton Kauai Resort. I read a lot of Unilocal reviews to choose this Poipu Beach southern hotel. Yes, they were all hotels. Condos are great for long term, bigger family stays but I just love going someplace and then coming back to see that the room was made up and they even re-​arranged all your stuff in the bathroom. Not to mention ordering room service at least once.
The Sheraton Kauai is ON the beach. Not near the beach or close to the beach but ON it. We fell asleep every night to crashing surf and woke up to watching people fall down, swim or surf in that fantastic ocean. (The hotel has another building across the road which is not on the beach, so be sure to choose an oceanfront room if you came to Hawaii for the full effect.)
The building itself – I’m not liking the color – weird yellowy/​orange but that may be just me. The lobby is nice and they have a large seating area that looks to the sea with rocking chairs – a bit old folks home but comfortable. The staff in our experience was stellar. Check-​in person put us on the Starwood Preferred 4^th Floor (join SPG it’s free and worth it) and that was amazing. There’s a very long walking path next to the ocean that you will enjoy every day. Everything is close and accessible.
The room lanai was big enough for two chairs and a table. Our large room had a lovely plantation bed and was decorated nicely. The view was crashing surf and busy pool. Watching the pool scene is like seeing reality TV, so many weird things going on like surf lessons and near frat parties. The pool itself is large, not overly large and a B+overall. Lots of places to lounge. There’s another pool across the road that may be a bit more secluded.
We took a breakfast package where you buy one buffet and get the other one free and get a 20% SPG discount on that so it was a good deal. The buffet was good, not amazing but had everything you could think of. Servers were cheerful and attentive.
The RumFire Restaurant menu was $$$$ and a little tired sounding – go to Red Salt down the road instead to blow you culinary mind. Room service menu was Lava’s menu – I wasn’t tempted by any of it. There’s a little café for Starbucks, Pizza etc.
We rented a small beach cabana one day for $ 50 and that was really fun since you can stay on the beach all day and not turn into a lobster. I guess people stay here or at the Grand Hyatt at Poipu but they are clearly two different places. The Grand Hyatt is lavish in its common surroundings with kazillion restaurants all of which are expensive. But the rooms themselves are not really beachfront – far off blue ocean views. Best scenario would be to stay at the Sheraton and spend some day time walking around at the Grand Hyatt. (I paid $ 50 to use the lap pool at the Anara Spa) You can’t and shouldn’t crash the other pools but you can see the Hyatt grounds, shops, parrots and sit in the ocean view deck for free.
Westin Sheraton is all about the service and the ocean and we enjoyed every second.

— Pros:
Location, location, location! The resort sits on Poipu beach and overlooks the water. I had a room that looked over onto the ocean. The room was rather large and well appointed. The amenities were well maintained (always plenty of soap, shampoos, etc.). The room opened into a lovely balcony from which we could see some amazing sunsets. I would get nu morning tea and take it to the balcony every day and get some work done with views of paradise. It was so close to the ocean that I could hear the waves when sitting on the balcony in the morning. Yet, it was extremely well insulated so at night there was no disturbance at all. The hotel has one 5 star restaurant and another «beachy» restaurant overlooking the beach that also serves guests on the lounge chairs near the beach. There is also a convenience store/​coffee shop that provides a small breakfast menu and coffee/​tea, etc. There are two swimming pools, one near the beach and the other quite a bit away. The hotel grounds near the beach area are nice and presentable. Many of the staff (not all) are friendly. The bartenders and waiters were for the most part extremely nice and knowledgeable.
— Cons: the hotel has a ridiculous 11A checkout policy and until the last day before your stay you do not know whether the hotel will allow you to do a late checkout (even with a charge! Btw, no complimentary late checkout even for SPG members. It’s $ 30 even for a noon checkout). I had a very late flight and so had to take an extra night. The hotel does offer a convenience room for 30 mins but it can’t be reserved so if there is a long line, forget it.
The other negative is that for a hotel of this size the number of restaurants it offers are quite limiting. I was very impressed by the quality of the food in Rum Fire, but it would have been nice to have more than just one good and one decent restaurant.
Still, the location and overall experience was rather good, so I would recommend it.

I’ll be real — this place is expensive — but you’re in Hawaii, so.
My husband and I stayed here for the duration of our Kauai honeymoon. We stayed in a Garden View room, and although other Unilocal reviews made me very nervous to stay anywhere but the Ocean View rooms, it was FINE. Got that guys? Totally fine! It was quiet because the garden side pool was empty, and we still had a cozy lanai and king bed. There was a brief walk to the beach, but we were staying at a resort — obviously it’s not all going to be right outside your door. I also read a lot about critters in the rooms, but we kept our lanai door closed at all times and made sure to wrap up all snacks and beverages. The only thing we ever saw was a teeny-​tiny gecko (about the size of my thumbnail), and we think he came in on one of our towels from the beach.
We had breakfast at Lavas included with our stay, and I probably wouldn’t have paid the $ 25 or whatever per person if it wasn’t included, but I really enjoyed the breakfast and it was nice to start every day by the ocean.
Overall, the food and drinks from Lavas were good. The drinks were really expensive, but every day they had a $ 5 «drink of the day» and I just had those. One day we booked a cabana (or a bungalow? whatever the one with the TV and couches is) and it was well worth it to have some shade and a TV to watch the Pats game.
The hotel’s Luau was fun and I’d recommend it – pricey, but again, Hawaii.
Poipu Beach is 100% the best beach in Kauai, and if you want to stay in a resort that’s beachfront, this is the one. I’d recommend renting a car so you can explore because it’s pretty isolated, but there are also plenty of restaurants and shops within walking distance.
My one issue with this place was that although the concierge and tourism staff are incredibly sweet and helpful, the front desk staff is sassy as hell. When we checked in they told us there weren’t any available king beds — even though we reserved one — and then when I threw a fit, lo and behold, a king bed room magically became available. So STAND YOUR GROUND and don’t let them push you around. A different front desk lady also let us do late check-​out on our last day (stay until 6pm for an extra $ 75) since our flight wasn’t until 11pm, so points for her.

We waited 20 minutes in line to check in with only 3 people in front of us!!! We had just stayed in the Maui Sheraton resort and it took all of 3 minutes to check in and get our keys. It’s an island resort so people have booked months in advance so how does it take over 30 mins to get someone the keys to their hotel room??? At $ 800 per night you expect to have a smooth check in. I’ve checked in faster at the Holiday Inn.
Now that my rant is over, it’s a really nice hotel with an awesome beach. If you get the beach front room the view is stunning every night when the sunsets. A few of the rooms on the first floor access the beach.
The link café has everything you need and open till 11 pm.
Self parking is not far away and you can find street parking right outside your room. There are nice fire pits with rocking chairs all around the property. The pool could be a bit bigger but you end up spending all your time in the ocean anyway and use the pool to rinse off the sand.

Great place to say on Kauai. While it’s a bit more expensive than most hotels I stay at, it’s worth it. The challenge on Kauai is that many of the beaches are either not swimmable or have extremely dangerous currents. Not the case here. The hotel sits directly on the beach with amazing swimming, not too many rocks, and crystal clear water. The hotel itself is very nice. I definitely recommend upgrading to an ocean front room here. We stayed in room 2320, which is the furthest building to the left of the lobby when facing the hotel from the street. Highly recommend as there is a self parking lot right next to the building and you can (technically) throw a stone from the balcony into the ocean.
Arguably the best option in Kauai if you are looking for a place with easy access to a swimmable beach.

Great hotel. I’ll list out all the pros/​cons to make it easy this time.
PROS:
1. Superior SPG Recognition — free bottle of champagne, ocean view suite upgrade (amazing), $ 20 credit to the Link@Sheraton café, 2 free continental breakfasts per day, and an orchid luau.
2. Free VIP parking daily for SPG Platinum
3. Really kind staff
4. Delicious water in the front with pineapple
5. Hawaiian cultural event celebration while we were there — free food, booze, and mai tais!
6. Great shows every day or two — lei making, singing, etc.
7. Great ocean view for the sunset
8. Great location — close to the canyon, and not too far from princeville either. Halfway point between both and 30 minutes to the airport
CONS:
1. Hardcore timeshare sales — skipped over the 7,500 points since 90 minutes was a long time. I don’t mind them bringing up the timeshare opportunity, but being asked 3−4x within a day if we’d like to book a meeting is a little much!
2. Outside booths are $ 50, which are a bit pricey. Cabanas at $ 100 per day is reasonable.
3. Most SPG hotels offer platinum members buffet breakfast. $ 9 per person to upgrade. Not horrible, but first time I’ve had to upgrade.
4. Had a dirty towel in the bathroom. Nothing serious though — they replaced the towel set.
Overall, I enjoyed the Sheraton. Betty in the front was very kind, and the amenities were beyond the normal SPG Platinum amenities. Would return here on another vacation. Just make sure to avoid the timeshare sales tactic unless you’re desperate for 7,500 points.

My wife and I stayed three nights here for a quick vacation using SPG points. We booked a garden view room but were graciously upgraded to an oceanfront one. The beach ends almost right where the grass of the resort begins. We could and did get to the sandy beach in less than a minute from our second floor room. The view of the bay was spectacular and we loved the roar of the surf from our balcony.
Our room was fresh with nice furnishings including a four poster bed. The bathroom was efficient with the sink outside of a separate room for the shower. Adjacent to our building was a small 20 spaces or so parking lot that somehow always had a spot or two open when we returned to the resort. Parking was free I guess as you do pay a resort fee and I was not sure of everything lumped into it.
Their pool area is on the small side but just like the parking lot we never had trouble finding free chairs to use. You have to fill out paperwork to get towels which seemed cumbersome but it all worked out. Adjacent to the pool is a nice spot for breakfast or lunch. Their pool attendants were very much on the ball and I think it helped that most chairs had little flags to raise when service was requested.
Apart from the wine tasting on Friday evening we dined off resort at some highly rated Unilocal locations. Their location is fine but it gets annoying having to drive the five or six miles off the main highway to reach the beach.

We visited years ago. it was our second time to Hawaii but our first and only to Kauai. We had read horror stories how part of the hotel was old and kinda gross and the other was newer and nicer. But we couldn’t afford the new area at that time. when we arrived they offered a free upgrade if we did the timeshare talk at their sister property. We did and I’m glad. Our ocean front room was gorgeous and perfect view of the sunset every night … it was much fancier a room than we were accustomed to back then. Loved it. by now they have hopefully updated the old section too .but the view in the ocean front was great. The time share talks always take much longer than they tell you. but it was worth it back then. now we could just do the nice room.
the seafood buffet was GREAT

This place has a dual personality. Rooms on the ocean side of the road are much nicer from a décor perspective and of course they are closer to the water than the ones across the street. Also we experienced both very helpful workers and some workers who should not be in the hospitality industry.
We were staying on points as Gold members for 5 nights and the best upgrade they offered was a room across the street with a supposed partial ocean view. The only view we had was a direct full-​on view of the massive construction job of one of their wings. The room décor was average at best and it seemed worn. So we went back to the front desk to look for an alternative and had to deal once again with the sour, unfriendly staff member. It felt as though we were imposing on her to find a better option. Finally after much wrangling we got a room in the Ocean wing but it faced the road though they call it a lagoon view. The room décor and layout was superior to the «upgraded“room across the street.
The resort itself is on the ocean and the ocean pool and beach are lovely and some of the help could not have been warmer and more helpful.
Overall a great location but I now understand why this place gets low ratings by Unilocal reviewers it really has some gaps in room quality and service!
