Zesty Basil provides cooking classes and personalized meal planning services focused towards vegetarian food and healthy lifestyle. Chef Shruti’s extensive knowledge in nutrition and healing power of spices has bought material change in health and food habits of many.
Private classes can be offered at our business location as well as in your kitchen. This is the best way to learn a customized menu or focus on dishes following a dietary restriction.
Group classes focus on a different cuisine/meal/theme each time. Classes begin with a brief introduction to the dishes along with their nutritional benefits, followed by everyone cooking together. At the end, there is food tasting and follow up questions. There are maximum 7 students in each class to ensure personal attention.
Shruti also specializes in nutrition/balance/dietary restriction focused personalized meal planning. Her quick and easy recipes have helped her clients in making sustainable improvement in their health.
History
Established in 2014.
A mathematics graduate and an actuary turned into a professional chef and a health coach. Shruti graduated from the Natural Gourmet Institute, New York, leaving behind her growing career as an actuary. She further complemented her culinary education with an instructor course in Pilates and is currently studying nutrition from IIN. Shruti worked in several famed restaurants in NYC like Dirt Candy, Ellary’s Greens and Joule Body, before starting Zesty Basil to share her knowledge with everyone.

Business Owner
Shruti completed her bachelors in Mathematics and masters in operational research from New Delhi, India. She worked in India as an actuary for few years before moving to Singapore. Once there, she started experimenting with food at home and joined several cooking and baking courses to foster her recently discovered culinary talent. She also worked at a few restaurants in Singapore alongside and continued developing her skills. She also took several cooking classes while traveling to Thailand, Turkey and Indonesia to learn authentic native recipes.
Moving to New York opened up a whole new culinary world for Shruti. She studied culinary art and healthy cooking practices at Natural Gourmet Institute of New York, and worked at several restaurants in NYC. To complement her knowledge of healthy and balanced meals, she joined Institute for Integrative Nutrition, New York in 2013. Shruti is also a certified mat Pilates instructor and follows an active and healthy lifestyle.
