was referred to steve but my friend jason. as painless as it gets, honestly. i talked with his assistant/​associate rachel, and in a few minutes i had a quote emailed to me.
gave her my payment information, and i was insured. the rates are reasonable, and the coverage is very good. i know, because i unfortunately had to file a claim pretty quickly after getting insurance, and it was very, very easy to deal with them.
i’m sure my rates will go up after the fact, but that’s not state farm’s issue. everything was handled quickly, and rachel is very prompt in responding.
when it comes to insurance, it’s not just the company, but really the agent. steve is great, and rachel is a great point person.

We researched many State Farm agents in the area and also personally met with another one (in Newport Beach) when trying to choose an agent and based on the good Unilocal reviews we decided to give Steven Wang a try. As soon as we met Steven Wang, we knew he’d be our agent.
Steven Wang is a great agent and we couldn’t be happier with him and his staff. His office is very organized and his Office Manager Audrey Yip, is amazing. Dealing with her is just as good as dealing with Steven since she is equally as helpful and efficient.
We have multiple policies (auto, umbrella, home, personal article, etc.) with Steven Wang and he & his office always are very helpful and attentive to all of our needs. We always get thorough answers to our questions in the form of phone calls or returned emails very promptly with detailed replies.

March-​2012 update.
I’m knocking a star because there was an accident recently on one of the family vehicles. I’ve no problems with the Irvine agency as they make themselves readily available. BUT.
The initial claim representative was only accessible by phone which means time loss due to phone tag. In this day and age, who DOESN’T communicate by email? MAJOR inconvenience. I mean c’mon! Even the Irvine agency has a number where you can send text messages!
Now: being involved in a car accident is bad enough. Working a full time job and playing phone tag to try to get everything resolved… just way much more of a pain in the BEHIND than is needed.
It wasn’t until I called to kvetch to the Irvine office (thanks R) that I learned a bit more of how the claims process works. Basically, it’s that everything has to have a trail and be documented but it all sounds very clunky and archaic. So there’s definite room for improvement there State Farm!
And also: for the claims reps (plural): when you’re your leaving call back numbers (again: PLURAL) and there’s a four-​plus digit extension number: SPEAK SLOWLY for crying out loud. If we can’t get your call back number correctly, what’s the point?
