Firing-Line – AKI Security Training Center

I went to get guard card training.
1) They have a couple different websites, they give different details.
2) I called several times, different people told me different things.
3) The trainer treated me as if I was more of a burden than a paying customer. I was left in a room alone with a video and not given clear instruction on what to do, what was expected, or what was next.
4) The seats that you had to sit in for hours were uncomfortable and small.
5) I was told that I could take care of everything there, ie: training, fingerprints, and state registration. NOT TRUE. I watched the videos and took the tests there. I was given a form to fill out and to send in to BSIS on my own, and directed «down the street» to get my fingerprints taken.
Never going back there again.

Since my former firearm instructor up and disappeared (two bounced emails, a full voice mail on his cell and his office number yielded no callback), I had to find another security trainer. Sweet, these guys are relatively local, so I left them a message. Received a callback a couple hours later and set up a time to go to the Firing Line (see other review) for my biannual range qualification.
Re qualified with the 9 mm and .38 (yes, I know it’s silly, but my current security company has armed posts, but you need a .38…so go figure). Although I enjoy shooting the .38, I always do better with a semiauto… and I shoot the .38 twice as much, but I guess I need even more practice.
Again, no muss, no fuss, do you’re business and you good to go!

If you want to get fast training, turn around and qualifications this is a great place to go. Walk-​ins welcome, full explanation of all costs and fees, and assistance with expediting licensing applications. Kathy goes out of her way to help each individual understand the process and fees associated with the whole process however, the learning curve is steep and there is a ton of information.

Unless otherwise stated you are paying for training only…
You have to buy a license to catch a fish in California. You will not get a Security Guard License from the State for free. Just as in other training courses… Drivers, Real Estate, Pilot, Nursing, EMT, Contractor, etc.
The State requires Live Scan finger printing to verify that you are not a criminal. For more info on Live Scan go to:
The fee for it can go as high as $ 45… They charge $ 18.
You need to mail in your own applications. This may require stamps or postage.
8 hour courses take a lunch break. They provide free coffee and bottled water at the HB AKI center. There is no dinning facility at the either HB AKI center or the shooting gallery. Bring food or drive to get some.
Noise can be an issue at the HB AKI training center… They are in a light industrial complex. Jim did answer the phone during my first class there but I asked him to stop and he did. In a later class he forwarded calls to Kathy. If you have an issue with this in your class ask him to hold his calls. He will.
The shooting gallery is not located in the same complex, It is around 6 miles away. It is live fire. Bring eye protection, hearing protection, and pasties. If you don’t have either they will lend you some. You will be self paced for your qualification unless you are attending a shooting course. If you need to attend a shooting course it will cost more. Stay inside the 8 ring and you pass.
Jobs are hard to find in California. Good paying jobs are even harder to find. Get more training and more qualifications than your competition and you stand a much better chance of getting hired.
