If you are looking for a unique Korean restaurant then you should check out Yu Chun Korean Restaurant. Their signature dish is their black noodle soup. You can order the black noodles in ice soup, spicy sauce with ice soup on the side, or warm soup. It was a hot day and the ice soup or spicy sauce hit the spot right. It was cool and refreshing and very tasty. If you have never tried iced black noodle soup you really must try Yu Chun. Their Kalbi was tender and cut thickly. Very good flavor and served on a sizzling platter on your table. We also ordered the Gyoza which was small in size but very filling and tasty. Overall restaurant rating 4.5 Food quality 4.5 Food selection 4.5 Value for the price 4.5 Friendly staff 4 If you are hungry for Korean without having the food cooked at your table, then you must try Yu Chun for some of the best Korean food in town.

Just tried Yuchun for the first time this weekend, got the set with two cold noodles and the kalbi, which was around $ 40 for lunch. The noodles were delicious and perfectly seasoned, and the kalbi was pretty good too. Service was great, the employees were very attentive even though they were pretty busy. I would definitely be back again.

One of my favorite post-workout meals is now Korean Cold Noodles. After a recent workout a friend and I stopped in a YuChun and ordered their Korean Cold Noodle Combo. This comes with two bowls of Korean Cold Noodles, a hot meat dish, and banchan. This runs about $ 38 for the set and feeds two people. We ordered up the spicy cold noodles and bulgoi for our set. You can also get regular noodles and kalbi as well. The spicy cold noodle dish is made with black noodles and is imbued with a sweet, spicy jochujang sauce. You can add some additional vinegar, mustard, and jochujang to taste to get this dish to your preferred level of spiciness and flavor. I really enjoyed this dish and found it to be very refreshing. The bulgoi came served on a hot sizzling stone with onions and was tender and simply delicious. The service here was excellent and the waitress was prompt and friendly as well. I will be sure to be back for more cold noodles!

The cold black noodle was good! The noodles are very firm in a cold broth with crunchy veggies. We had both the spicy and non-spicy versions. The spicy noodles are not very spicy and the broth did have quite a bit of vinegar in it. Ban chan consisted of 2 dishes, daikon and cabbage(no kimchee!) Service was quick. Definitely no frills… water and noodles… and we were outta there. Cold noodles are great on a hot day so I’ll be back!

I have been there a few times(with friend or alone) and never disappointed. They have the BEST cold noodle!!! But their meet dishes were just ok. I had the set with friend — once with bulgogi and twice with kalbi. Yes, they were sizzling hot, but the taste was just average. And the Kaibi, both time(with different friend) we only got 3 – 4 pieces that were good, the other pieces were hard to chew. When I went there alone, I always order only the noodle, so maybe the next friend I bring here, I will order only the noodle. In short, noodles are the best! Their bulgogi and kalbi were just ok. They are clean and fast. So I will go back for the noodle :)

Best cold noodle soup ever! I’ve had lots of the dish in other Korean restaurant but somehow they don’t compare. The noodle and soup with the veggies balance so well.

I was thoroughly disappointed with my experience… partially because my girlfriend had hyped it up. To be fair though she loves the ice cold black noodle dish which I knew I wasn’t going to order. The only reason I gave it a two is because she loves this and would highly recommend it if you like this dish or want to try something different. The location is on Kapiolani which is always busy so I would advise turning into the restaurant driving on Kapiolani heading east so you don’t have to cross traffic. Parking is also very limited and tight. The interior décor and tables/chairs has a cafeteria feel and will not win any awards. For a small space they pack in a lot of seats though. Nowwwww onto the service… HORRIBLE, almost made me feel since I wasn’t Asian looking I was ignored. People who came in an ordered after us were served their waters, sides, and Main Dishes before us. The server was rude and not very attentive, she seemed irritated when we asked for help or additional sides. I orders the spicy pork belly… and instead I got pork ribs that were somewhat dry. With the high cost for something I wasn’t expecting and actually not so good at what it was(dry ribs) left me very disappointed. I will only come back because I know my woman loves the noodle dishes, however I wouldn’t ever come back on my own.

I come here for their specialty: cold, black, chewy noodles, served in an icy broth with crunchy vegetables, hard-boiled egg and a slice of boiled beef. It’s especially refreshing on a hot day like today. Service is quick and courteous, and water is refilled regularly. The noodles are not the only thing to eat. The sizzling kalbi and seafood pancake are also delicious. Ban chan are fresh and flavorful too, with just the right amount of salt.

The parking is terrible and tight but the ambiance, taste and service will win you over. We arrived on a Friday afternoon, went around a couple of times, found parking, stepped inside to what felt like a country home in Korea. You’re right away greeted by service attentive staff. We ordered the lunch special. Cold spicy black noodle with Kalbi and Mandoo. Let me tell you, the taste is light, amazing and just the right spice. This restaurant is not your typical Korean restaurant with all the different meats and choices. They specialize in certain doses and do it well. Sharing is caring and I’m telling all my friends.

Food: 4 stars Service: 1 star I ordered set A with kalbi and a side mandoo. I didn’t know there was an option to have the mandoo steamed or fried until I saw a server bring out a steamed option. The server said nothing when I said, «side mandoo order please.» I accept my fault, I should’ve looked closer at the menu but here’s where the horrible customer service comes into play. I asked the server if I could have the mandoo fried. She returned and said they already put in the order. I asked her if it was already made and she said«yes.» I asked if she could just put the steamed ones that had just been made in the fryer. She said, «already made.» Uh oh language barrier. So then I said, «Okay, nevermind. Please cancel the order.» She said, «Ok.» A few minutes later she came back with the steamed mandoo and put it on our table. I looked at her confused and said, «No. I don’t want it.» She said, «Already made,» and walked away. I was shocked. I’ve never had a restaurant tell its customers they HAD to eat and pay for food. I’ve worked at bars and I work at Roy’s. Even McDonald’s doesn’t force you to eat a mistake. They just take back the food and suffer the cost. This place closely only cares about making money. I’m never going here again. Hope that $ 15 was worth it for them.

Heard of the raving cold noodles here, but was greatly disappointed with everything else The Chic cold noodles looked good, came in an icy beef broth and tiny pieces of veggies and beef. I was told the noodles were chewy and refreshing, but it wasn’t mind blowing. You can get better krn food at ktown in SoCal. I ordered the chicken bbq to be safe, but was I shocked at how mediocre it was… How can bbq taste so bad?! Chicken meat texture was off, seasoning was salty and weird, and it was possibly the worst one I’ve ever had. To top it off, service was completely lacking. This place is a Korean tourist trap. Immediately as we sat down, they asked what refreshing drinks we wanted like green tea and brought us canned drinks(we thought these were on the house) since NOONE mentioned that it’s an added cost. Once I had the nerve to ask they snobbily reacted with«well, duh» in Korean — and took the drinks back and went to huddle with each other talking smack about my table — completely unprofessional and horrible etiquette These people are rude, and don’t understand what good service is especially for tourists

A few years ago, I brought my cousin from San Francisco here. We didn’t know what to expect — we just wanted some cold black noodles.. The kind you see people eating on those Korean drama tv shows. For $ 11.99 a bowl, we really enjoyed the Mul Naeng Myun which is made from arrowroot, not buckwheat. It’s very chewy. The server will cut your noodles in front of you with kitchen scissors, so get your camera ready! The broth has a slight citrus flavor to it. Very refreshing on a hot summer day! I searched for other restaurants which might have this dish, but didn’t find any. So, I returned with some friends for the Special Set A which is 2 bowls of cold noodles(spicy or regular) and Kalbi for $ 39.99. The kalbi came sizzling on a cast iron cow-shaped plate. I went back again for Special Set A with bulgogi for $ 38.99 because the marinated meat is softer, thinner and less work(no bone). It has more flavor to me, and I don’t have to struggle with it! Every time I went to Yu Chun, I found free parking in the front, next to McKinley Car Wash and the golf shop. The service is friendly and quick. The air conditioned interior is clean and has cute decorations. I couldn’t find anything wrong with this place except now it maybe crowded with more people because I let my secret out… Enjoy!

Hands down to the best cold noodle restaurant in town. I’ve literally tried every cold noodle on the island and been to a lot of Korean restaurant but, this place hits the spot! And I can’t believe it took me this long to discover cold noodles cause now I can’t stop eating it! 4 stars on because it’s inconsistent. But 8⁄10 it’s on point! Something about their icy soup is so delicious. The chewy black buckwheat noodles goes perfectly well with their icy soup. Also, topped off with half of a hard boiled egg, garnished with some cucumber & daikon! Many cold noodles I’ve had is too soft, and not chewy enough. This place has the best mustard too! Perfect spice and it gives a good kick to each bite. & if you’re wondering about their side dishes, it sucks. Only give you daikon & kim chee, which is pretty tasteless! I got my sister to love cold noodles, and we’ve been going 3x a week this whole summer! Yes, I know we’re addicted. It’s that delicious! Although, service is pretty poor. Those Korean lady’s just can’t stop staring at you.

I am half Japanese and half Chinese which makes me fake Korean. Most of my really good friends are Korean. I don’t really know what my point is, but when it comes to Korean food, I don’t discriminate. When it comes to noodles, I also don’t discriminate. And when you put Korean + noodles together, I really don’t discriminate. I really love jajangmyeon, dappoki, rappoki, bibim guksu, hot or cold, you name it. However, my new fave type of noodle is the mul naeng myun(black cold noodle) which they are known for at Yuchun. You can get it spicy or non. The best is going with a friend, and you can get two bowls plus kalbi for $ 39.99. Yes, it is on the pricey side, but it’s so worth it! I’ve only tried the non-spicy but I like how you can add your own vinegar, mustard, and gochujang sauce. This dish is so refreshing, especially after a workout, which is exactly how it happened twice this past week! Location is next to McKinley Car Wash. There lots of parking in the lot, and service is really quick! The food comes out in less than 5 minutes!

Best naeng myun in Honolulu! I’ve been here a few times but always get the same. Atmosphere: Located right off Kapiolani. Small parking lot available in front and also street available. Inside decorations feel like you’re inside a korean home. I Two cool photos of naeng myun hang on the wall. Service: Fast and direct service, be ready to order quickly. Food: So far the best naeng myun I’ve had in Hawaii, please message me if you have any other suggestions. We ordered both #1 and #2 which are classic and spicy mixed styles. Both equally delicious but I prefer #2 because of added spicy/sweet flavor. Intangibles: Come for the naeng myun and nothing else.

I’m going to keep this review short. If you’re going to come, come for the cold noodles only — the price is $ 11.99. The noodles are firm and the broth is very flavorful. My rant, however, won’t be as short. Rant: It’s sad to see the workers treating only Korean customers with good service. I can notice that the other tables have twice the amount of banchan(side dishes) than me and I know it’s because I’m not Korean/speaking Korean. I looked at all the tables, and it was clear that the local/Non-Korean customers were given three side dishes while the all Korean customers were given six. I wouldn’t come back here even if my meal was free.

Came in around 3:15PM on a Friday afternoon so we were the only table dining in. I’ve actually been here before, but quite a few years back. We sat down, placed our orders and about 5 minutes later we get our noodles. I ordered the mul naeng myun which was exactly what I was craving for. This dish is perfect for a hot day! My auntie ordered a bowl of bibim naeng myun, which I’ve had before and I remembered it being pretty good here as well. But seeing that she ate the whole thing, it must have been just as good still. Their side dishes were the perfect accompaniment to our noodle dishes. I will definitely be back!

If I were Korean, I would say«YUMM, just like Grandmas», but since Im not, I’ll just say its some pretty tasty Korean food. My go-to here is the Rice Cake and Mandoo in Soup– piping hot broth with chewy mochi and delish mandoo. Usually very consistent in flavor and texture. On this visit, I came with two friends who ordered the Tofu Stew and the famous Black Noodles– cold, with spicy sauce. Tofu Stew took supppppperr long to come out, about 20 minutes after the other dishes arrived. Our server said its because the Stew comes in a hot stone bowl, but then again, I would suggest the kitchen start on the longer items first? Black Noodles lived up to their expectations– tougher noodles with some great toppings and a mildly spicy sauce. Though the food is always pretty on point, one star deduction on service and ambiance. As other Korean joints in Hawaii, the owners/managers/service staff all seem to prefer Korean speaking customers above all else. No warm greeting or «anything to drink tonight?» are offered. The only real interaction you get from the staff is «you ready to order?» but hey, at least the food is tasty.

The must have here is the black somen cold noodles. This is the best thing to satisfy your heat exhaustion. And to compliment this. I would recommend the kalbi. That combination is can make you the happiest full person in the restaurant.

I’ll keep this review short and sweet since all you have to know is that it’s good and you should definitely check it out. Best naengmyun(korean buckwheat noodles) you’ll get on the island, hands down! As a Korean, I will vouch for this place and say that it’s authentic and you’re getting the real deal. I think the prices can be a little steep($ 10+ a person depending on what you order/if you get combos) but it’s worth it if you got the cravings. They also have some pretty good kalbi, which is served on a sizzling hot place. Parking lot is on the smaller side and can get crowded during busy lunch/dinner times. My parents sometimes get it to go so we can just eat at home. You won’t be disappointed!
