When you keep seeing a little hole in the wall place pop up in your friend feed, all with great reviews, it’s a place you should bookmark and go try immediately! AFFORDABLE is the key here at Sweet Home Glad. 3.25! Most of the dishes here are $ 3.25! TASTY is also what makes this place come highly recommended. I’m pretty much addicted to the stuffed eggplant and their salt and pepper shrimp! Don’t forget to try their won ton min! For $ 3.25, it’s a steal and one of the tastiest items on the menu. From what I hear, they don’t use MSG, which is always a plus. The restaurant is run by a couple and the lady who works the front of the house is really quiet but sweet. The food comes out fast and you can order almost anything and everything you want without breaking your wallet. The only problem is that my eyes are bigger than my stomach! Parking seems intimidating but we always find stall either in front or in the back(driveway immediately before Dagon, use the first few stalls). This place is not exactly a date night spot or a girls night out spot, but it’s great for weeknight-with-kids-and-we-don’t-wanna-cook kind of spot! Check it out! We’ve been to Sweet Home Glad several times now There’s something for

Love this place! The food is cheap but super good. It’s a nice little place with a good ambiance and the owner is very nice. I recommend the cold ginger chicken! The chicken is boneless and they smother it with the cold ginger sauce. Definitely worth coming here for sure.

Only in Hawaii. Looks like a slightly upscale Chinese place, but has spam katsu and mochiko chicken… and burgers on the menus. If I would have seen the burgers before I ordered I would have tried them just to see. Think of a Zippys with a much smaller menu in a nicer environment. The kind of food they sell here is usually reserved to places with sticky tables. I don’t know how this happened but I order garlic chicken, mochiko chicken, and cold ginger chicken. Happy with all three. I wanted to try the pork belly but was sold out so I ended up char shu. The char shu wasn’t as juicy as I would have expected. It seemed like it was cut earlier and left out. Supermarket char shu level. The seafood noodles were exactly what I expected. Tasty brown Chinese sauces. This review is kinda boring, but I guess that is the point. What they do, they do right. I’m looking forward to trying more of the menu.

I like their food — very affordable. Our favorite dishes are Sesame chicken, Ginger Chicken, Char Siu, Sweet and Sour Shrimp, Pickled Vegetables, Deep Fried Smelt Fish, and House Special Fried Rice. When you order, make sure you are not ordering all«fried» food… because if you are not paying attention(like us at our last visit), it could happen very easily, and your tummy won’t be happy after. Haha

I cannot say enough about this place. As you can see, I checked into Sweet Home Glad a ton of times. Everyone I brought here(yes even my dad, the one who has discerning taste buds) loves the food, atmosphere, and service. Did I also say that this place is very reasonable in price!!! Yes it is very unusual to have it all, but this place… Wait, I do have to say that parking can be a bit of a hassle at times if there is no parking in the back. There is a small driveway that takes you to an apartment. There you can park in the yellow stalls or on the street right in front. After 6pm its free parking or before you have to pay the parking meter. This place has a twist of local and Chinese plate lunch and pupus. The food is light and fresh tasting. FYI they do NOT use msg. Eating at different places and cooking, you can tell if the place uses fresh oil in their fried foods as well in the freshness of the veggies and food. So far my favorites are shrimp fried rice, steamed fish fillet, cold ginger chicken, beef broccoli and yes of course the soft shell crab and their steak. All YUMMY!!! I would write more but my dad is staring at me as I’m writing this at the table. Thank you Sweet Home Glad for the happiness you bring to myself and everyone I bring here. BTW, FYI, it is BYOB!!!

This was my second visit to sweet home glad. Both times were food splurges so it’s not that I ordered the wrong thing. The first time I ordered takeout was around the time they first opened so I decided to give them another shot today but… my food just didn’t taste good. I don’t think it’s because I had to wait ten minutes before I could eat it either. The best dish in my second visit were the fried sweet potato; they were fresh and crispy. The bbq chicken wasn’t seasoned well, the sesame chicken tasted mediocre, the fried chicken wings lacked flavor, the roast pork was overly salty, the char siu was eh, and the new york steak was inedible. The steak was beyond chewy; I couldn’t even cut it with the knife. They cooked it pretty accurately I guess; I ordered medium rare. I did takeout for both visits, but from what I experienced, the service is good. The price for everything you get is unbelievable, but I won’t be returning since both visits disappointed me with food flavors that didn’t agree with me

New Chinese resto in Moiliili. We were trying to figure out where to eat for lunch when the Grand Opening sign caught our eyes. We went in at about 1 pm on a Friday. There was one other person eating. Terrific first impression as the place looked super clean and tastefully decorated with photos and plants. There are about 9 – 10 tables altogether. The menu is quite unique. Along with traditional size plates, they offer an array of small«tasting dishes» for $ 3.25. This is perfect because it allows you to taste a variety of flavors on one visit. This would also be great for groups. We had: 1.Crispy Chicken with Cake Noodles(regular size plate) — With most foods, you have to let the flavors roll around your tastebuds for a few seconds before you know if you like it or not. This wasn’t one of those occasions. The flavors from the crispy chicken and brown sauce instantly jumped out and made friends with my tastebuds. The crispy cake noodles were perfectly fried in clean oil. Next time I would order the crispy noodles on the side so they don’t get soggy from sitting in the sauce as we eat. 2. Cold Ginger Chicken(tasting dish) — At first glance it didn’t have a lot of curb appeal but we knew better than to judge a book by its cover. Once again we were Not disappointed. The chicken was fresh and tender. The ginger sauce tasted of fresh ginger and was well seasoned. During our time there we saw several people come in to pick up to go orders. Most likely people who worked in nearby buildings. The husband/wife owners are from southern China. He was a cook at a Chinese restaurant for many years and decided to take his culinary skills to Hawaii. We are thankful for that. The wife Christine runs the front of the house. She was incredibly friendly and provided impeccable service. Together, their goal of opening this restaurant was to share the dishes that they would eat at home and made them«Glad». Hence the name of the resto. We will definitely come back to try other dishes. Especially the Clam Poke. That sounds like it would be quite interesting with Chinese flavors infused. If you’re not in the mood for Chinese food, they also have hamburgers and cheeseburgers for $ 3.25 and Fried Soft Shell Crabs for $ 9.95. There’s free parking in the back of the building along with metered parking in front. Don’t forget the city tows your car if you’re parked there between 3:30−6 pm. They don’t serve alcohol but you’re welcomed to bring in your own.

I enjoyed this place. It’s located on S King Street kind of across the street from Puck’s Alley. If you know Sushi King, then just cross the street and you’ll find Sweet Home Glad. First things first… parking. The parking is a little difficult to find. There’s a small little alley right before the restaurant. If you miss it like we did, you’ll need to go down the street and circle back around. There are 2 small stalls against the wall that are labeled as ‘customer parking’, but one of them has a dumpster in half of the stall, so really it’s only one stall. There are also stalls a little further down that are marked in yellow. Look at the sign so you know which numbers are for customer parking. It’s a tight little area for parking, so be careful. It’s shared with a residential apartment building. When we entered the restaurant at about 5 pm on a Tuesday, there was no one else there. We had the whole place to ourselves! It’s a cozy restaurant that can fit about 30 people. There are a variety of tables that can fit 2, 4, or even 6 people. There was one young gentleman working the restaurant when we were there. Since we were the only ones in the hour half that we stayed there, we got lots of attention. He was constantly refilling our waters and checking if we needed anything else. The water here is refreshing because they add lemon to it. Sweet Home Glad offers plate lunches, catering options, and even tasting items. The tasting items are smaller portions of the plate lunches that they offer. I recommend this to anyone who is new to Sweet Home Glad. For $ 3.25, you get a good sized portion to sample the food items before committing to a full plate lunch. The choices we tried were: — Salt and pepper calamari: The crunchy batter on the outside made the texture just right. They put just the right amount of salt and pepper on it to make the flavor not too overpowering. I also liked the presentation of the calamari. It’s not just your average rings that you usually see at most restaurants. They make them into tube shapes that have a prickly look to it. — Sesame chicken: This was okay, but I’m glad I didn’t commit to a whole plate lunch of this entrée. We also enjoyed the Satsa chicken rice noodle. Similar to the filipino fried noodle dish, pancit. It consisted of different types of meat and vegetables mixed together with thin rice noodles. We also found pieces of pineapple inside. During our visit, we kept trying to decide whether we should get the deep fried soft shell crab. It’s $ 10 for 2 pieces. We thought it was a bit pricey, but we figured we might as well go for it because many of our other Yeeps were raving about it. They were right! This was the best deep fried soft shelled crab I’ve had! Yes, the inside of the crab does contain its eggs and tastes quite ‘oceany’ but the way in which they make it is to perfection! It has the right amount of crunch and flavor. I definitely recommend going for it if you come here. Sweet Home Glad has a beautiful write up of why they opened their restaurant on their menu. Read it. They really do follow their words in showing their customers how much they are driven by their love of food, family, and friends. I was GLAD to be able to share my time with them as well.

Super affordable delicious food. Let me repeat that, but with a british accent: super affordable delicious food. Eh probably sounded better without the accent. Why and what I love about this place: Awesome and inexpensive Variety: They have little plates of «pupus» for 3.25 so you can try lots of different options without creating a black hole in your wallet. We got bacon wrapped shrimp(deep fried and has a pineappe piece), the ginger chicken, and french fry pupus, all of which were really tasty. Cold Ginger chicken: Get a regular plate of that stuff if you’re hungry. It’s not too gingery, but it is packed with a refreshing tangy/salty flavor. I like to ask for a small dish of soy sauce to dip it in too. A regular plate is only 6.75 and it comes with two scoops of rice and edamame. There are also specials on the board. They had a steak plate for 8.75 and it was a decent steak, with two full scoops of rice and edamame. For three pupus and a full steak plate, which was the perfect amount for two people, our bill only came out to 19.37. We gave the lady(I think she was the owner) a 20% tip because she was really sweet and attentive, and because we could afford to do so with such an in inexpensive bill.

It’s not too often that I go to a place and feel inspired to write a review immediately after my experience. But after dining here for lunch with bruddah Fran C. today, I had such an awesome experience that I wanted to write about it as soon as I could. You may be thinking«well, any dining experience with Fran C. is 5-star». That may be true, but aside from the 5-star company that I had today, the food and service here is 5-star all the way. 1. Service is quick 2. The menu has pictures! 3. Plates come in mini size or regular, and they are all priced the same($ 4.75 or $ 6.75 4. They have free parking in the back(turn in the alley next to Dagon and park in one of the yellow stalls If you love soft shell crab, you must order it. It’s only $ 9.95, and you get TWO tempura-battered soft shell crabs that are juicy and meaty! If you can’t decide on what to order because everything looks good, go tapas-style and order the smaller ala carte portions for $ 3.25. I will definitely be back, for either dine-in or take out!

What? Sweet Home Hah? Sweet Home Moili’ili?! GLAD? Well, thanks to all my bruddahs & sistas who came before me and made me not afraid of a thing called GLAD! Umm what’s a GLAD? I mean anything to do with a gland ain’t alright with me, but does GLAD have to do with gland? Maybe it’s my analytical mind playing tricks on me again… SWEETHOMEGLAD! Hey, I am GLAD I took the chance to get down here! Never let a funky name discourage you to try someplace new because in the end it might simply just be a funky name. I have now been here 3 times — and on each visit, I am GLAD I came here! Some of my thoughts… GLADAMBIANCE: The location is at my former beloved Bodhi Café near that«Cheech & Chong» Choke Smoke Shop — Located on S. King near University St. As you enter you’ll notice how warm & inviting it is — Pier1 with a dash of Vera Wang. Comfortable tables & chairs. The mixed tape sounds of 80 – 90’s easy listening, tho I still miss listening to Enya at Bodhi, nonetheless the music works. Nice vibe. GLADGRUB: The food can be described as Chinese w/hints of American, but to me, it’s like Bar-type Asian-Fusion. Not high end, but good. Ingredients are honest and the presentation is nice, but simple. Flavors mingled. GLADSERVICE: The waitress, hostess, bus-lady is also the owner, if I recall her name is Cindy or Cynthia? I believe the cook is her husband. See where I’m going? Family owned & operated. She’s super nice and even makes honest suggestions if you’re unsure. Good peeps. GLADVALUE: The prices are pretty amazing & even though you’re paying«fast food» prices… You know you’re getting quality in return. Pupu’s or samplers start @$ 3.25& plates @$ 4.75(mini) or @$ 6.75(reg)… What? Yup, you read that right! American burgers @$ 2.25-$ 3.25! GLAD? On previous visits I’ve had the Lemon Chicken(more like a Katsu w/lemon sauce on the side), BBQ Ribs pupu(not any BBQ sauce, but still fatty good), Sweet Potato Tempura(freshly fried and delicious). My Dad had the Pork Belly plate and he was pleased. My cousin, who is a vegetarian wasn’t exactly thrilled being here, but she did love the Herbal Teas & the Edamame that is served w/all the plates! Not the friendliest for Vegheads, but knowing how friendly the owners are I am sure they can whip something up! Perhaps the pineapple fried rice w/o the shrimp? ;) I highly recommend… SWEETHOMEGLAD! A funny sounding place with some serious value! The owners/employees are genuinely nice and it’s obvious that they want to be here! No, it’s not fancy by any means or not the best either, but I am GLAD I gave this place a shot! You should too… GLAD: glad/adjective 1. pleased; delighted. «she was alive, which was something to be glad about» synonyms: pleased, happy, delighted, thrilled, overjoyed, elated, gleeful… Ah well, that’s what she said;) SOLID4.2-STARS(bump-up for value)

Having lunch with Minky and Daniel - it’s like dining with Hello Kitty and her«special friend», Dear Daniel!(so cute!) However, in real life, Minky & Daniel are happily married, while Hello Kitty is just a little girl… right? haha! Anyway… This was a fun and inexpensive experience because Bruddah Fran and Lyla wrote such glowing reviews for Sweet Home Glad, that we had to go check it out for ourselves! Thanks to Unilocalers like them, Errol W., and Vina P. for the heads up on this new restaurant. It’s only been open for the past 4 months and we wanted to try it before it gets really crowded…(big hint)… I looked at photos to figure out its location. Since King Street is so long and it’s one-way, I didn’t want to miss it. It’s on the right hand side of the street, headed towards Waikiki, after you cross University Avenue, near Kokua Market and across from Sushi King. The free parking lot behind the building was full, so we parked in the metered stalls in front of the building for 75 cents per hour. When you step inside, the bold, primary colors greet you in this modern looking interior. We were seated promptly at a table set for four people. There were tables for two that could be rearranged to fit parties of various sizes. Menus and water glasses were brought right away. The waitress/receptionist/cashier was very efficient and helpful. She asked us how we heard about her restaurant, and we answered, «Yelp»! The food and prices were great! We had the following: Sesame Chicken — lightly breaded and fried to a delicate crisp! Tasty sweet sauce was perfect! Deep Fried Smelt(fish) — reminded me of my childhood — my mom used to serve this to us! Oyster Katsu — deliciously decadent! Roast Pork Belly — continuing our indulgence! Crispy Chicken Dumpling — a yummy gyoza! Fried Soft Shell Crab — crunchy legs, juicy interior WITHEGGS inside! Seafood Cake Noodle — smoky goodness with contrasting soft and crispy noodles — WOW! I want to go back and try the other items such as New York Steak and Won Ton Min! We were so excited to go to a new place and are expectations were fulfilled! After reading the back page of the menu(see photo), we wish this business all the best in making their dreams come true!

After seeing their cute menu and restaurant, I had to write this review. I love menus with pictures because I pick what I want to eat based on photos I see. This restaurant is unique because they offer small dishes so you can order a variety of dishes to try when you dine here. It’s also BYOB! I had lunch with Nadine and my bb about 1:30pm to avoid the lunch rush. We arrived a little early so they we could try to park in the back in their private lot but it was full. It looks like they only have about 5 – 6 stalls. We ended up parking on the street in front of the restaurant($ 0.25 for 20 minutes). They have been opened for only 4 months. The restaurant was very welcoming with their warm colors. The furniture matched the colors on the wall and I liked how they had photos hanging on the wall. It looks very fancy/modern on the inside compared to what you would expect from looking in from the outside. They can seat about 35 people with about 11 table settings. We ordered up a storm! The dishes we tried were the Sesame Chicken, Deep Fried Smelt Fish, Oyster Katsu, Roast Pork Belly, Crispy Chicken Dumpling, Fried Soft Shell Crab and Seafood Cake Noodle. The food was good and priced very well! You get a lot for what you pay for. All of us left with a happy tummy and happy wallet. They accept both cash and credit too! The cashier was also the server and hostess. She did a great job catering to all the customers and made sure everything was ok. Very nice Chinese lady. Overall, this is a nice hole in the wall addition to the University area. Best of luck to this new restaurant and I hope they do well.

Day’um!!! I’m totally blown away!!!(I will explain this later in my review, after explaining about the free parking) So today I went back with my coworker to «Sweet Home Glad» to have lunch again… I guess it was on my mind since my Yeep buddy — Da Famous Auntie — Nadine C. was talkin’ about this place… Today, I got smart & took the free parking. Let me explain on how to get into the private parking lot in the back… Look for the«Dagon» restaurant, you will see a lane just before Dagon. Turn into that lane, and it will lead you to the back where you will find the free parking. Park in the parking stalls that are marked in Yellow(see pics of the parking area). Not too many stalls, but enough so you should be able to get that free parking. So why was I blown away??? Well, as we were seated and menus & water was dropped off, when the waitress came by to take our orders… I was totally blown away as she remembered my coworker’s, as well as mine food order from the last time we came here. She also remembered the table we sat at too! WOW! I was totally floored by that… as it’s been awhile since we ate here!!! Today, I decided to order from the«plate lunch» menu side, so I ordered the«BBQ Chicken» plate. My coworker also ordered from the plate lunch side, and took the«Garlic Chicken» plate. Both meals came with two scoops of white rice & edamame, and both meals were a very reasonable $ 6.75 each. When my coworker was ordering his food, and as the waitress was taking his food order, she asked my coworker — «what, no chow fun today?» She then took my order of food. As she walked away, I told my coworker…“Why did she say that about the chow funn? — Could she have remembered us from the last time we came here?” Sure enough when she came back, we asked her, and then she told us everything in detail of what we ate, and where we sat within the restaurant! INCREDIBLEMEMORY this lady had… simply AMAZING!!! I say this because the last time I came here was the beginning of Dec. 2015, and since then, I bet a lot of people had come here since then… Anyways, the food again was delicious! The BBQ Chicken I got was two thick pieces of deliciously marinated chicken! Great tasting, great price… what more can I ask for? I did not try my coworkers chicken, but he said it was good too! For you folks who haven’t tried this place… I gotta tell you it’s pretty good! Like I said before… it’s not a real traditional Chinese restaurant kinda place. The best way to put it is… it kinda reminds me of a «PF Chang’s» — American/Chinese style restaurant, but on a lower scale as far as atmosphere. The service is great, & the people are very friendly! The décor is comfy & clean. It’s a small little café… and the prices here are very reasonable too!

Parking: They have limited parking stalls down the alley next to the restaurant. 1st come, 1st serve! The inside of the restaurant was bright, clean, and the ceiling fans kept the restaurant nice and cool. There was only one lady running around giving menus, clearing tables, & taking orders. We ordered from their«specials menu» which was a chalk board with all their specials & teas written down. The price range is $ 3.75 to $ 12 for any dish. Pupus & Appetizers: It’s around $ 3.75 for one, & they have plenty of choices. Most of it is fried, come on, who doesn’t love fried food? They have burgers and cheese burgers for $ 2.75& $ 3.75. Burgers were decent, and enough to make you filled. The won ton noodles were okay, noodles soft & the broth on the plain side. NY steak — was requested well done but they delivered rare! The waitress noticed my friend stop eating her steak and said they would recook her steak, which was really nice was them. Sasta noodles — These noodles were delicious. It had pineapple chunks, chicken, bean sprouts, and green onions. So glad she recommended it. Over all great deals! My boy friend said it was like an upgraded version of L&L and with more chinese food. Lol. I would definitely eat here again.

Tapas, mezze, antipasti, izakaya-style, dim sum… what do these have in common? Why, each cuisine have their version of small plates that ressemble appetizers yet if assembled in combinations will yield a full meal. Sweet Home Glad offers small plates and plate lunches featuring Chinese and American cuisine. The prices range from $ 3.25 to $ 6.75. We were driving through the Moiliili-area when I spotted the sign Sweet Home Glad. I thought they were related to the hotpot restaurant with similar name. But, after checking with the owner, she stated that this establishment is Cantonese-run. We perused their menu and were delighted to find the small-plate service ANDBYOB option and kept them in mind for our visiting relatives. Our dine came about on a Friday night and the restaurant was empty when we arrived. The server/owner(?) was busily setting out packages of takeout orders for customer pick up. So, I gathered that they are at least popular enough that orders are being produced from their kitchen. We liked the clean and café-like ambiance. There is a nicely printed chalkboard that posts their signature dishes and daily specials. Our friendly server immediately greeted and seated us with menus. She quickly brought us glasses of iced water. She recited several specials to us and informed us about some of the items that they were in «short supply» of because of their lunch rush. We ordered several plates priced at $ 3.25 each(4-pieces per plate) and even double ordered some. All of the food came out fresh and hot from the kitchen. The fried foods were not greasy and were truly fresh out of the fryer, er, wok as the lightly battered items had nice crispy crusts. All of the foods were nicely seasoned and prepared well. THEFOOD: –Roast pork belly –Bacon-wrapped shrimp –Garlic shrimp –Salt and pepper chicken wings –Deep-fried oysters with tartar sauce –Char siu –Satsa(Sha cha sauce?(Chinese: 沙茶; Peh-ōe-jī: sa-te; also spelled sa cha)) chicken rice noodle Luckily, we were there as a foursome as each small plate had 4 pieces of food on it. All of the deep-fried dishes were flavorful and paired well with our icy cold beer that we brought in. The small plate-style of dining will appeal to anyone who wants to try several dishes and not be «stuck» with having to order a large plate of single item. Service was friendly and attentive. There are some free designated parking spaces located around the back of the restaurant that is shared with an apartment complex. Also, a public restroom is available in back of the restaurant that is shared with the other businesses next door. You’ll have to request the key for this one-stall gender neutral restroom. It’s clean and private. Sweet Home Glad just opened about a month ago and we wish for their continued success. They’re taking on Moiliili’s family dining scene one small plate at a time… #474

Their mix plates start at $ 4.75! Under $ 5 in honolulu?! That’s amazing. Their food is great for a quick fill up on some asian cuisine. I enjoyed how they switched up their sides from The traditional Mac salad and substituted it for edamame. Their bbq chicken was a safe bet but next time I’m grabbing their cold ginger chicken and fried rice. Heard it’s the bomb diggity

What drew me in to the strangely named Sweet Home Glad(Sweet Home Café + Yakitori Glad???) was the takeout menu posted on the window, boasting party platters and plate lunches for $ 6.75. Six seventy five! The interior is clean, quiet, and simple, quite a nice change from most Chinese sit-downs. The tables are not sticky, there are plants & pictures on the wall, and the dining area is well insulated with two window AC units. The server was prompt, pleasant, and helpful — she even let me get a two choice plate lunch so that I could try more than one menu item, and recommended the Li Hing Mui tea(3.25) with honey for a cold drink on a hot day. The tea had a nice tart bite without being unpleasant. The grinds! I ordered the mochiko & lemon chicken, which comes with rice and edamame in liu of mac salad. The lemon chicken, instead of the traditional chinese frying batter, was just chicken katsu(panko) with lemon sauce which was watery in consistency. The chicken katsu was marinated, which clashed a bit with the lemon sauce itself. Not my preferences for lemon chicken, but for some people that might be better. The mochiko chicken consisted of smaller pieces, but they were hot and flavorful. Almost like an asian popcorn chicken. These were also non-traditional, without any sort of sweet crust in the batter, but that might also be better for some people. The rice seems to be a different grain than I’m used to, not quite jasmine but definitely not the sticky white rice you find everywhere else. I really enjoyed it. The edamame, unfortunately, was a bit overcooked and mushy. Not much else to say there, if you like soybeans then this place is for you. Sweet Home Glad feels like a cultural facet trying to reinvent itself. The food seems healthier in preparation and presentation, and the interior is a step above similarly priced cuisines. It will be interesting to see if they can maintain their alluringly affordable prices over time, as their prime location will no doubt allow for opportunities of volume. I’ll be back to try more menu items and the sit down experience in the future.
