Stylus Honolulu

The owner is awesome. I am on the mailing list (I usually do not partake because I do not like to be stalked; this place doesn’t). There were so many neat rare items to chose from including records and old albums. The prices were the best of all the consignment shops I’ve gone to (I’ve been to about 8 on this island). The only thing is it is too far from my house… that may actually be a good thing. I can see myself going broke if I lived closer. The owner/​clerk was really nice!

It’s really nice to have a used record store in my neighborhood! A few months ago when the cartridge on my turntable finally shit the bed, I needed a new one fast and for cheap! I searched the internet and found that there was a record/​dj supply store within walking distance of my house!
The prices at Stylus are fair and are comparable to similar record stores in the mainland. The selection mostly caters to DJ’s and fans of hip hop but I’ve found so many awesome punk and indie records there. On my last trip I picked up Daydream Nation from Sonic Youth and they had a whole gang of old Husker Du records too!
The guy who runs Stylus is totally rad too. I always feel like my business is appreciated and valued as a customer.

Lots of great stuff, though you might have to dig a bit to find «your style.» One star off for the limited selection of shoes and accessories. They occasionally have handcrafted stuff (bags n things) made by local artists that are just BEAUTIFUL (though a little overpriced).
Oh… shop there on Black Friday. The whole store is 50% off!!! Woohoo!

Stylus is a consignment shop catered for both male and female, with an age range of junior high through college. This type of standard secondhand store isn’t my bag of tea. If you are looking for a fashion, girly-​type of a women’s consignment boutique, then you will be disappointed if you go here.
I found a few things that I left with (Roxy shorts for $ 8 and Volcom shorts for $ 7) but nothing that wow’d me like it does at Tara’s Secret Closet (see my review for it) Stylus Honolulu will appeal to you if you fall into these categories: surfer, punk, rock, emo, and plain jane.
From a female’s perspective, if you like high fashion or name brands
like juicy couture, banana republic, or Betsy Johnson – then this is not the place.
They have a lot of shorts and jeans that take up a good portion of the store – all in good condition. Jean brands can average anywhere between $ 15 to $ 50… some of the brands they carry include: Rock and republic forev21, Volcom, Roxy Hurly, True Religion, Armani Exchange, a few Hollister picks, Lucky Brand, Seven, GUESS and more unknown names. They also have hats, shoes, tees with cartoon print that remind me of my junior high years. Other tops and dress shirts include forever21, a few hollister picks. You have to sift through the no names and mall store clothes (ex: Hurley and Forever21) to find these designers sprinkled among them. They also have a big selection of records for you music lovers.
The owner says «Hi» when you come in and that’s about it. Assistance on taking clothes to a dressing room could be more improved but I guess they don’t expect their shoppers to be grabbing a handful? Very chill place though with music to fit the atmosphere. Its small, and only has one dressing room, but to me its not about the size of the store, its about the size of the selection offered that I would rather see.
Stylus is at King and University. The building and location are not my
favorite but I guess they’re trying to cater to and near the UH Manoa students and schools. Its located on the third floor in an old, run-​down looking 3-​story building that looks like it needs an updating and good paint job.

I wish there were more places like this in Hawaii. Just for that they get 3 stars. The vynil and cd section is meh. They could get plenty of cheaper stuff from current artists and/​or demos from local artists trying to push their own material.

Great shop but there locally mad stuff is way over priced. I looked at a bag in the shop it was 65 dollars. I could have gone home and made it easily for 3 $. But otherwise great shop

I love Stylus! When I got my record player, I bought some of my first vinyl there, and I can guarantee that 75% of my collection has come from there. Since it does deal in mainly used records, the selection is kind of based on what people bring in, so coming in often is a must if you’re a vinyl hunter. The owner, Shawn, is one of the nicest record store guys ever, not at all a snob or collector scum, and his store shows it. The prices are some of the best around, $ 4-​$ 15 dollars for most records, so no collector price bullshit like some places. He likes to move his stock. Very eclectic selection: lots of great rock, punk, soul, disco, funk, hip hop, reggae, even exotica records! My girlfriend digs the Threadless tees and the huge selection of girls clothes. Perfect for last minute gifts!

Don’t even bother taking your clothes here if you want to make some $$$ cause it won’t happen. This place is not Buffalo Exchange. Have a few stylish girls clothes, but nothing exciting. Guys clothes are basically the same as any other second hand store.
Vinyl selection is well organized but seems pretty picked over.
The do have really good CDs in the mix for pretty cheap.
Overall its worth a visit. You might find one thing you like.

Great selection of music and clothes at an affordable price!

I’m not a DJ but I do like looking through a vinyl bin from time to time. So this spot suits me just fine. Prices were OK, I got a 808 state (OG house) single for $ 3 and a Amel Larrieux (neo-​soul) LP for $ 10. They are not goodwill prices but the selection is better then thrift shops — or it’s not as overwhelming. I like how everything was organized (like a good record shop should) in categories and under new and «recycled» as in used. The place is small and there is a lot of vinyl, flyers and clothes packed in there. I didn’t get to look through the clothing much but I did see some Threadless shirts and a fake fur collar in the mix. From the looks of it I’d think they have a perty good selection of recycled women’s gear. It’s a nice place to check out — if you’re in the neighborhood.
