Queen Kapiolani Hotel

The hotel may not have been the best in terms of room and amenities but the staff was amazing. Steve the manager went out of his way to help my friend and I during our stay. Would highly recommend this place!

On January 23, 2016, my father, husband and I booked a hotel room for three (3) at the Queen Kapiolani Hotel. Upon arriving at the hotel, there was no way of knowing where to check-​in or check-​out., unless you look for it yourself. There was no assistance given regarding checking in.
When we walked into our «given» room (booked in advance: request two (2) double beds) the atmosphere was «gloomy» and not «welcoming». I shrugged it off telling myself, «At least it’s a room.» While checking the room out, and headed towards the entrance of the bathroom, I stepped onto «wet» carpet… Next to the left entrance of this bathroom, was the «refrigerator» on the ground. This definitely was «unacceptable! I called front desk and requested another room. Our second room was bigger and with a little kitchenette (the icebox in the kitchen) Basic room… the outside lanai faced Diamond Head (full view) the view could not be enjoyed ’cause the AC blew «hot» air out toward where one would be sitting to ENJOY the view… we could «shut» the AC, but it would take forever to get cold… overall the AC sucked!
Upgrading to the 6^th floor from the 5^th was an «inconvenience» and no one cared to prepare the room for three people… instead it was for two people, therefore, front desk and housekeeping had to be notified of the shortage and that is «unacceptable»…when inquired about having assistance for a wheelchair on our arrival, my husband, Donald was told that he would be notified… it didn’t happen…
«unacceptable»…our son, Aukai rented a wheelchair from «Best Mobility» for 24 hours.
We are «Kama’aina’s» and we were treated «less than» with the accommodations and services!
I rate this hotel a «two» star hotel!!!

Good location, right at one end of Waikiki so its fairly easy to get in and out of that area if you have a rental car.
The staff is SO friendly and nice, always smiling and asking about your plans for the day and offering any suggestions.
This hotel appears to be fairly outdated in terms of the guest room. The bed is not very comfortable at all, especially for you light sleepers out there! If your partner is moving around in bed, it will be sure to wake you up! The pillows are flat and don’t provide much neck support.
Decent place for the price you pay, will probably shell out a few more bucks to have a more comfortable sleep.
*resort fee of around $ 20 per night. Valet parking at the hotel is $ 30 a night. Pretty steep but makes sense for the area of Waikiki.

My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel for 6 days and loved it! The location is great as well. It’s right across the street from the Honolulu Zoo and walking distance from the Waikiki beach. The rooms are a little out dated but you can’t beat the location for the price. We didn’t do the valet parking though, we thought it was ridiculous to pay $ 25 a day so we paid to park across the street at the zoo. Saves money!

What a secret. So close to Waikiki and the Honolulu Zoo. I rated it a 5 star experience because the view location and pricing. I think that’s everyone’s top priorities for a good stay in Waikiki. Look at the photos you will be amazed by the views. The staff here are really nice and seemed to be trained very well. They make you feel at home too. Again what a great secret.

I’ve stayed here two years ago one of the worst places I’ve ever stayed the view was horrible the room was nasty dirty an it smelled so bad an the front desk were rude an everything was always closed the bar an resturant I had my friends tire flatten an I complain about it an nothing was ever done couldn’t even talk with the manager I wrote an have pictures on trip advisor the only thing that looked nice was the lobby don’t let that fool you what a dump! I even put the room number I stayed in!

This is a two star hotel in a four star location. Because of the location, they apparently can get away with having dirty, torn curtains, barely functional wifi, and over-​priced parking. Some of the staff was friendly (namely the valets), but some was surly and not helpful. We had a more expensive Diamond Head view room on an upper floor and the view was amazing — again, location being the only truly good thing about this hotel — but we hardly spent any time in the room. It’s also really loud at night because the windows are all those slat things that don’t really close all the way. Ugh. Tl;dr: I will be staying somewhere else next time.

We stayed at the Queen Kapiolani due to the proximity of the hotel to Kapiolani State Park where we were attending a Lacrosse Tourney that weekend. Our experience was over all, a negative one.
We booked a King Bed Diamondhead view room and upon check in, were told we were upgraded to a «Junior Suite Diamondhead view», yay! Once we got to the room, that «Yay» became a «Nay!» Our suite was a 2 Queen Suite, not the King sized bed we had booked and was literally right over the pool. Look at the pictures of the pool, see that little balcony right over the tiki hut roof? That was our room. You could clearly hear people’s conversations at the pool and when they hosted a pool side party for the Lacrosse crew, it was loud until almost midnight.
Our balcony door also had a major problem. There was a ½ in gap from the bottom of the door to the jam. While sitting on our balcony the first night, we watched a cockroach climb out of the thatch of the tiki roof and I thought, «I hope he doesn’t get in our room.» Well with the ½ gap under our door, guess who made it in our room by the next morning? From then on, we stuffed a towel in the gap to try and stop the cockroach room share program.
The hotel itself is very outdated and doesn’t look like the pictures on their website (peeling wall paper, stained wall paper, stained carpet, worn carpet). Their shower was so small, even a small person like myself (5’3″) felt claustrophobic.
The only reason I am giving this place 3 stars is the Bell Staff and the House Keeping staff. They all went our of their way to accommodate us and to make us feel welcome.
If you are looking for a cheap place to sleep, and not the full hospitality experience, stay here.

The front desk and valet and bell desk crews are all great.
My issues were about the hotel itself.
1. No *hot* water. I like hot showers and the water was only warm.
2. The beds are too firm for my liking. I know, very subjective.
3. The hotel wifi is unusable. Even with a strong signal I gave up and used my own mifi with t-​mobile.
4. The room windows were slatted louvered glass. Poor wind and street noise protection even on the 15^th floor. They also didn’t keep the wind from blowing into the room causing the air conditioner to work overtime.

I stayed at this hotel for a couple of days and I was blown away by the service. Everyone from the front desk, valet, and housekeeping staff were extremely friendly and accommodating!
I have to give a big shout out to the valet crew. The staff was amazing and welcoming. That’s the definition of having great service!

What a lovely hotel. I wasn’t sure what to expect but the staff was amazing, the hotel was quaint and charming. It was very clean and the amenities were equally impressive.
The Penthouse suite was amazing. We had a view of Diamond Head, plenty of space and everything was really clean.
The pool did not reek of chlorine and we were able to swim with our eyes open and didn’t leave with dry itchy bleach smelling skin.
2 – 5 happy hour was also an added perk. I had the crab cakes with a side salad, fish and chips and the Kalua pork bowl. All very good.
We can’t wait to come back.

Determined to stop being such a creature of habit, I decided to venture outside of my two Oahu hotel options and try something new on a recent short trip. I knew I needed to be within walking distance of a few places and, in addition, walking distance for the important things that you should when you come to Hawaii… such as paddle out for SUP or surf time. With all of that being on the checklist for a hotel, the Queen K came to mind. I have run past this hotel for years and never gave it a second glance. I decided this trip to give it a try. This was a busy trip with lots to do and I really just needed the bed to sleep.
In speaking with a friend, it will soon be undergoing renovations, which I love to hear. While it had everything basic you might need, it was disheartening to see what was probably a lovely building in its day run down a bit and dated. Please jazz it up a bit new owners and show Waikiki what this side of the park can be! My room was on the second floor and backed up to a street which was a little on the noisy side. My only other wish would be that the shower heads would be raised. At the grand olé’ height of 5’4″, it is comical that I have to duck to wash my hair!

I stayed here for my Hawaii vacation, really nice hotel a block away from Waikiki beach. Every day my room was cleaned & if we needed anything I would call them and they would be there within minutes. I also love that they have patios! Gives you a chance to see beautiful Hawaii. There was a $ 100 deposit at check in I wasn’t informed about, I saw the charge & asked them about it & then they told me. I think they should inform the customer about the deposit before they charge your card. But besides that I loved my stay.

Old school hotel near the Zoo and popular surfing spots. Gracious early check in and upgrade during recent stay. While other hotels would have been wall-​to-​wall people, Queen Kapiolani was a relaxing staycation for our family. Pool bar Kalua pork sliders were excellent and the valet crew (esp, Tyler and Rusty) were awesome! There is a wifi fee ($ 15) but upper floors are quiet. Would definitely recommend and plan to stay there again.

Vacation on Tuesday, 3÷31÷15 (first time visiting)
Hawaii has great weather. We arrived to the hotel and the drop off is in the alley way but it was still decent-​looking. We were greeted by staff members immediately then walked straight into the lobby. It isn’t big and fancy but rather cozy.
We didn’t get the room with the King size bed as reserved so the concierge upgraded our room from city view to beach view instead. Most of the furniture and décor looked like it was from the 80s. The room wasn’t what I expected when I was browsing photos online. Sometimes I think back and wonder if I should have gone with the traditional Hilton, Hyatt, or Marriott hotels.
During our 3-​night stay, there was also a notice given to us about an emergency water shutoff. It was supposed to happen on our last day there but it was delayed another day. Lucky us.
The hotel stay was alright. I wouldn’t recommend it though unless you don’t expect much.

The manager Justin Odani is a great man! He will do everything he can to make his guests happy.
But not his team. My perception is the rest of the team have policy ‘I’m right, guest is wrong.’ They like to argue with me.
The lady who in charge of city tour & activities is even worse. Everything I ask are either ‘need 2 days prior reservation’ or ‘not available.‘
Solution: I walked 0.3 miles to other city tour kiosk, I got any fun activities I want on the same day.
The housekeeper is awesome. She found my iPad and returned it to me. Thank you!!!
The hotel is only a block away from the beautiful Waikiki beach.
The pool is gorgeous with the view of beautiful Diamond Head mountain.
The down side, carpet inside the room is bit old and sticky.
It only has valet parking that cost $ 20
Will I go back? No! I hope next time the room will have a new carpet & new front desk people, same Manager

Can’t beat the price. Very close to the beach, friendly staff, and the bus. Rooms are a bit small and dated but clean… completely acceptable for the price. Free wifi available. The pool is small as well but with the beach so close who cares!

My husband and I had planned a trip to celebrate a friends Birthday. We had planned to stay in Waikiki for a 4 day weekend. I had searched many websites, to find not only a great rate but a hotel that would ensure a comfortable stay. Upon arrival at the Queen Kapiolani Hotel, we were greeted by a warm and accommodating staff who were incredibly helpful.
We received a complimentary upgrade for our room and the view was breathtaking!
We loved every minute that we got to spend at the hotel. The staff was so accommodating and helpful, especially the front desk. The rooms were clean and comfortable, with great views of Diamond Head.
I would highly recommend staying at this Hotel, you won’t find anything quite like this! Quality, comfort and a true sense of Aloha!

WORST OAHU HOTEL I’VE EVER STAYED IN. I CANCELLED AFTER ONE NIGHT.
To sum up, the Queen Kapiolani is a run-​down place with very little to offer. It’s got decent views of the ocean and is short walk from a lot of Waikiki action. But its facilities are about 35 years behind, its got ZERO privacy, and its staff is friendly but extremely casual.
1) STAFF: Greeted us with «There’s a charge for valet, are you cool with that?» and «Wow, you’ve got a lot of luggage. Must have a lot of money, huh?» Friendly folks, but not the most professional.
2) DECOR: Straight out of late seasons Mad Men — except less glamorous. Do not believe the professional pictures! Rusty AC unit is simply plugged in to the wall and sits on the floor. Tissue box is likewise rusted and looks like it should be in a gas station. Window latches and hooks? You guessed it, rusty. Ceiling is popcorn-​style and visibly dirty. Pretty sure my lamp was broken and super glued back together. Wallpaper, peeling in 3 – 4 places.
3) NOISE/​PRIVACY: The building is an awful L-​shape design, so if you’re in the corner, you have ZERO privacy. You open your window and can make direct eye contact with 6 of your neighbors (defeats the purpose of great ocean views). Glass slat windows like a midcentury school, one of which was not even frosted, in the restroom! My wife and I felt compelled to shut the blinds completely. Not exaggerating, there is a direct line of sight from neighbor’s balcony to our shower/​toilet and we had to stuff a towel into our window slats. You hear every conversation from the sidewalk and ding of the elevator. It doesn’t help that the staff are constantly sprinting down the hallway and chatting on their walkie talkies.
Overall, I’m astonished at the 5-​star reviews. Maybe it’s a «Titanic» situation where the plebeians get the crappy accommodations in the ship’s underbelly. Originally planned to stay for 4 nights and made plans to cancel about 90 minutes after check-​in. Was totally worth the effort –for the exact same price ($ 159), we scored last-​minute rooms at the Marriott resort! I could literally feel my blood pressure drop as we drove away and had a Shawshank Redemption moment as we made our escape!

Hôtel plutôt sympathique, divers services sont accessibles, l’accueil y est très agréable. Gros bémol sur les chambres qui sont vraiment d’un autre temps! De plus, suivant le côté de l’hôtel, vous bénéficiez soit de la vue sur le zoo, soit sur les autres immeubles…
