These guys make cakes that I personally categorize as Asian Style. They are not thick like most American cakes. I didn’t try any of the pastries but bought several slices of their cakes, 8 different ones to be exact. I don’t remember them all but I think I got… red velvet cheesecake, tiramisu cheesecake, tiramisu, strawberry shortcake, lilikoi cheesecake, and a few others. All the cakes were very light in comparison to traditional cakes. I used to get these cakes at Chinese bakeries. It’s lighter, fluffier, and not overly sweet. If you like typical American cakes that are heavy, super sweet icing, or if you go to Safeway and love their cakes… you may not like Pastry House. If you’re Chinese or Filipino, I think you’d like these cakes because these are the types of cakes we grew up eating.

Ordered a NY Cheesecake and strawberry cheesecake and both were very very very dry. It had the consistency of hardened clay. Overpriced and does not taste good.

Pastry house, you didn’t have me at hello but you’re alright. I searched high and low for Black Forest Cake. Pastry House is the only place that makes it. For those of you who are unfamiliar it’s a chocolate cake with cherry filling, it’s a German thing. Additionally they have«New York» cheesecake; it’s not really NY cheesecake but it’s close. My Mom, the crazy old angry German lady she is, makes both way better. Also she doesn’t charge $ 3.50 a slice but until she moves closer… Pastry House is worth a visit. Plus if you buy three slices your fourth is free. Whoopee. Oh, but Pastry house, if you’re reading this. what the hell was that piped frosting on top my NY cheesecake? It doesn’t belong there. Remove it promptly.

A while back I noticed this little kiosk and had no clue what it was because all they had was a small stand with several types of cheesecakes and a fridge off to the side with more cakes and cheesecakes. The first thing I ever got here was a slice of the key lime cheese cake, which I thought was actually pretty good. I was really eying the red velvet cheese cake though, and had thoughts about taking it to go but I decided not to spend another 4 bucks and come back for it later. A couple of weeks later and signs started popping up… oh! It’s Pastry House~! duh, no wonder it seemed familiar. The girls at the kiosk are pretty nice. I found it a bit humorous that there’s a big paper on the display that says to not touch the glass while gawking at the wonderful looking pastries… but ooo that doesn’t stop anybody, that glass probably gets smeared up a lot by the time they close, which is probably around 8pm I guess. I don’t know if this is a bad spot at the NEX or what, but I think it has a high turn over for whatever occupies the space. I’m pretty sure there were two other dessert kiosks, in the same place that just couldn’t stay in flight. The one before Pastry House was one of those mini donuts carts that had flavored powdered sugar. When I pass by the kiosk, I’m not sure, but I get this strange vibe that they just don’t get business… sad, I don’t like to see cheesecake go away. I wonder how often they rotate them though. How long does cheesecake last in a fridge anyway? I’ve been told two weeks, but I dunno, probably more if frozen. Pastry Kiosk: Convenient if you’re at where its at. There’s cheesecake at country café across the foodcourt thats a bit more traditional, but if you want something special for about $ 4, then it does its job.
