Larry’s Bakery

I decided to make Larry’s Bakery my 200^th review because their white chantilly cake has me feeling a certain kind of way.
The owners of the bakery are very nice and super sweet people. I’m guessing their sweetness passes onto their baked goods because their pastries and cakes are OMG nomlicious!
The bakery is located near Target in Salt Lake. They recently stopped stocking cakes at Don Quixote, but you can still order, pick up or buy cakes at their home bakery. The store is open on limited days and hours. Check their hours before stopping by.
I highly recommend the white Chantilly cake. Super moist, super soft, frosting is perfect. I recently tried their glazed bacon donut and it was one of the most delicious donuts I have ever eaten in my life. Perfectly glazed, the bacon is not overglazed and has the perfect amount of flavor to complement the sweet donut. Their mini long johns and mini napoleons are also very good.
Do yourself a favor and next time you are in need of a cake for a special occasion, do not hesitate to get the white chantilly cake!

Okay! 5 star customer service. First time ordering from Larry’s Bakery. Iris helped me. You don’t get that GOOD of customer service nowadays. Looking forward to a yummy boy’s birthday cake!

I’m not too sure why Unilocalers have reported this location as being closed. Larry’s bakery is still up and running at the same location-​across the street from Target. They still have their white chantilly cake that is spectacular!!!

Meh. We’ve tried a few of the desserts from here before (e.g., (regular) chantilly cake, pumpkin pie), but were never impressed. However, this was BEFORE reading the Unilocal reviews on the bakery… After reading the reviews, we decided to give Larry’s Bakery another try, especially because of its convenient location.
With so many people raving about the white chantilly cake, we decided to add this, as well as the haupia custard pie, to our Thanksgiving menu. We thought that surely the white chantilly cake would be a winner; while its appearance is not particularly promising, its reviews are positive and complimentary. Again, however, we were not impressed– the white chantilly cake was dry and rather tasteless, and the haupia custard pie was mushy and wet. We won’t be coming back for any of the sweets.
Although the desserts we’ve tried have been meh, the breakfast options are pretty decent. We chose fried rice with scrambled eggs and white rice with scrambled eggs (some sort of breakfast meat was probably also included, but can’t remember exactly), both of which were alright. Although we won’t return for the desserts, perhaps we’ll go back for the breakfast? But probably not.

I love their white chantilly cake. Once you eat a slice, you want more! They closed their store front. I think they’re doing farmer markets now. But they still sell their cakes at don quijote. If you call them you can place an order.

Five stars given for their non-​refrigerated, red velvet cake that’s fresh, moist, and not overpowering in sweetness or sugar rush! Perfect for outdoor celebration. We served this delectable cake to 130 guests. Some of our guests returned for their second serving of cake and scored one more treat. Full sheet of red velvet cake was gone within 20 minutes. We had more guests returning for seconds; however, this red velvet cake was such a hit that we officially ran out of yummy dessert! Many of our relatives complimented this cake. Much kudos to the staff at Larry’s Bakery for baking an outstanding masterpiece and customizing red velvet cake to our invitation theme.

So the past few times I’ve stopped by larrys bakery (the store front) to pick up some goodies before work they’ve been closed. Today I decided to call before I walked over and found out that on June 30^th they closed the store front window and are only open for reservations due to a death in their family the lady I spoke to also said they don’t know when or if they will re open their store front. Just giving everyone a heads up (:

Winnah! I was so needing a white chantilly cake so on my way to a friends house in the neighborhood i stopped at Larry’s. I didn’t think the cake was that expensive but it was $ 16.xx for a 8×8 cake kind of pricey but so worth it! I didn’t eat a piece till later on that night and it was so soft and fresh just great. I also bought 2 cinnamon loaves and even those i was very satisfied with.
I liked how the menu was set up to see what was available for that day instead of asking constantly. It was close to closing so the pastry case was kind of empty.

Five stars. Good old fashioned, ono manju. The likes which I haven’t seen since the old Maui Shishido and Kauai Lawai’s old man manju factory. The texture of the manju and moistness (not dry, needing a drink with) makes it one of the best manju in the modern era. I really love chewing down on them. Really, really good! Awesome!

I was going to give this place a 4 stars but decided not to. I was so in denial of my son turning 2 that I didn’t even want to order his 2 cakes for his actual birthday and his birthday party. I finally gave in and looked on their website. I had a hard time trying to find a Mickey Mouse birthday cake because most places either ran out of the surf mickey or had the really basic Mickey Mouse logo on the sheet cakes. As I surfed the website, I found a Mickey cake and was happy so I called to order.
As I placed my order, the man on the phone was so patient and helpful that I kind of didn’t mind that the 8×8 cake was about $ 30 and the half sheet was $ 75 after tax. I know that the other half sheets are much cheaper than this, but because I was ordering a Disney cake I figured that’s why it was a bit more expensive. I was sad that they too didn’t have the surfer Mickey topper but the man said he had one with a plane so I told him Okay! I got the chocolate Chantilly cake which was okay but the frosting was so moist and yummy :) When I picked it up, I was SO HAPPY as in I am such a picky person kind of happy that I expected this cake to be «ugly». It wasn’t. It was in such a beautiful color of blue that I even told the lady OMG I LOVE IT (like a teenager, which I am not). Haha.
For the half sheet cake, I was very worried because I haven’t tried the white Chantilly yet and I had a feeling I wasn’t going to like it. I can’t be bias because even though I’m borderline diabetic, I really loved sweets before I was pregnant. Let me just say that all of my mom’s friends were asking where I got the cake because they really loved it as well and was going to order for their kids birthdays in the future.
I asked them for the colorful confetti on the half sheet cake but surprisingly they had actual mickey mouse shaped confetti haha! I didn’t even notice till we ate the cake and I was so happy. The cake was so good that I’m glad that I went from ordering a quarter sheet to a half sheet. I even took the last pieces of cake and hid it in my fridge hehe.
Overall, the two times I been here, the older ladies were so kind and helpful and the two boys on my 2^nd visit were even sweeter. I am definitely getting my cake here for my birthday :)

Decided to make an epic voyage to the only target on the island by bus, and on my way towards target I stumbled upon this little bakery called Larry’s tucked away among all the big warehouses. I decided to do a quick look up on Unilocal to see what this place was about, and noticed that they were about to close in 30 minutes (1pm) so I decided it’s either now or never!
I of course ordered their popular chantilly cake to-​go (its curbside so to-​go no matter what) and took my cake to target and ordered a nice black starbucks coffee to enjoy it with. The cake was nice and cold from the fridge which is the way it is supposed to be eaten, and delightfully soft and moist. I thought the cake was pretty basic though, and was disappointed to find that the frosting on the cake was nothing more than glorified pastry cream :(It’s a nice treat if you like pastry cream, but I don’t care too much for it.

Can I say HEAVEN IN MY MOUTH?! OMG, the cakes at this place send you straight to heaven. Super light, fluffy, flavorful, delicious. I want one right now! So, I first heard about this place from my co-​worker. It’s a hole in the wall place, right by Target. So glad I found it though, I think I may have mentioned that the cakes are to die for but the prices are super affordable, too!
They customize cakes and can even do it right there, on the spot. I asked them to write, «Happy birthday“in Hawaiian on a cake and they told me, «Don’t worry; the auntie that writes is actually fluent in Hawaiian.» Awesome!
I’ve picked up cakes for bdays and for office functions here and they’re always a hit. The butter rolls are a hit, too. Oh, and they also sell candles for 99 cents and up! I love you Larry’s and I love you more because you’re a small, mom and pop shop. They are super friendly and open early. Support, local. Support yumminess!

Larry’s Bakery is my go to place for cute and affordable decorated sugar cookies. They have trays and trays of them daily. The small flower ones are only $ 1 each and the bigger ones run you about $ 3. They have cute designs for every holiday and even offer cookie leis for graduation. I love the fish cookie for boy’s day.
They offer baked pastries and brownies and breads. I’ve preordered their cake parfaits and though they are tiny, they are delicious! I still need to try their white Chantilly!
They are conveniently located nearby Target, but inconveniently open until 1pm or when they sell out so go early!

After reading and hearing that this was an excellent bakery and I chose to purchase my son’s first birthday cake here.
I’d called to inquire first and then emailed my request along with sample pictures to see if a custom decorated cake in my son’s birthday theme could be done. I spoke directly with Iris, as she said she could do all of the sample designs that I’d emailed onto the cake, so for me to pick which one I wanted. I was thrilled and immediately made for an appointment to meet and go over the details in person.
Ordered the White Chantilly Cake in ½ sheet size, pre-​cut so we had 48 pieces to serve our guests. Thank you Larry’s Bakery and Iris as I was so impressed with the presentation of my custom cake, a perfect fit for the birthday boy and it was delicious, light, fluffy and moist, a delectable treat indeed. I’m also glad we decided to have the cake pre-​cut for quick and easy plating to our guests immediately despite Iris warning me that the cake might crack. It didn’t…the cake was so perfect that I felt bad lifting up that first slice with a serving knife! We will definitely be using Larry’s again for our next big event.

Ho yups this place is another spot that Has been in hawaii forever that I didnt know about.
I fired up my trust Unilocal app again on my iPhone looking for places I havne’t tried yet.
This one place Larry’s came up. I was first confused at the hours for saturday because I was reading that on Saturdays its PIckup only and no retail service but then again I read recently that they are open for retail and pickups for saturday.
So one saturday morning I was running around doing errands decided to stop by to check it out. Its Right by salt late target right on the bend. If you drive fast, you might actually miss it cause I almost did. When I got there, the lady that was behind the counter asked If i have been there before and I said no and she gave me the run down on things.
I looked at the display case and looks like not many items was left. I did go kinda late like around 10 or so which I think might be kinda late cause lots of people go early to get the good stuff. I order a few manju and the glazed donuts. Both the manju was good and for sure come back for days. The glazed donuts I kinda liked also because it wasn’t super super sweet, it was just right.
Now for the star of Larry’s Bakery was the White Chantilly cake. OH man this thing was frickin super super delish! It tasted like I’ve never tasted Chantilly cake before. The frosting they use isnt like crazy crazy sweet and just the right amount of butter /​sugar they use.
The cake also was fully and very moist, even after being in my ice box for a few days, the cake was still ono!
All in all, great tasting items, fantastic customer service, very affordable and easy on your wallet.

Larry’s bakery is one of my every other day stops, I come here to pick up donuts for my clients for breakfest.
The parking is okay for where they are located sometimes i park across on target side because there is no room in the drive way which is not too much of a hassle.
The customer service is AWESOME, very friendly people, happy, fast, never ever gives any attitude especially the pregnant girl if i was pregnant i would be so grouchy and bossy but she always has a great attitude and nice as well as everyone eles who works there.
i usually always get Ensemada and the Ensemada with the cream chesse. they are totally melt in the mouth they also offer many variety of donuts and manju and breads.
A addition to their donuts they have their regular cookies brownies for the closes special occasion.
Then they have FRIED RICE MUSUBI and breakfast bentos WHICH ARE awesome cuz there really isnt any place around salt lake area you can get those things unless you wanna go to 7 – 11.

THEY HAVE CAKES AND PIES EVERYTHING you get from there is awesome.
ESPECially the WHITE CHANTILLY CAKE, its different everywhere you go they only offer the chocolate one but this one from larrys is omg melt in your mouth. Its light fresh and so good… mmmm mmmmm mmmmm…

For those of you who remember Larry’s Waiau Bakery in the Waimalu Shopping Center (which actually dates back to the ‘60s!!), this is the same family, carrying on all their secret family recipes and offering up something a little different: WHITE CHANTILLY CAKE!
I think this may be the only place that makes the WHITE CHANTILLY cake… but if you can’t live without chocolate, you can order chocolate chiffon chantilly cake instead.
1. The chiffon is AIRY and LIGHT! (mostly air=no calories)
2. Their signature chantilly frosting is also very light (in both taste and color, it’s not yellow like everyone else’s chantilly frosting), and not too sickeningly sweet.
3. Then the kicker: macadamia nuts. They only sprinkle them on the sides of the cake, so if you close your eyes and don’t see them go in your mouth, it doesn’t count toward your daily caloric intake.
