What a cool little retro shirt shop!
I love the retro t-​shirts they have here… PanAm, TWA, racing and surfing competitions from the 70s… this place has a shirt from your childhood!
Good quality shirts that change over time, along with a collection of hats, bags, and other items.
The prices are reasonable and sometimes they even have a sale!
I always try to grab a shirt for the long plane ride home… to keep my soul warm with aloha on those cold mainland nights!

On Beachwalk. Iconic ’50’s, ’60’s, ’70’s, and ’80’s images on t-​shirts, decals, and a few other items. All t-​shirts have the stone washed aged appearance. A fun walk down memory lane — in the pacific, Hawaii, California, mode.

This is a neat little t-​shirt (mainly) store that’s mostly focused on the retro look. One part I enjoyed is that the store mixes in small, interesting ‘museum exhibits’ that showcase history related to the shirts and other things they sell, along with Hawaii in general. As well as the old-​school designs on the shirts, there are signs and stickers, posters, and even good old Pan Am Airways bags!

Located on the revamped Beach Walk on Lewers, is a t-​shirt shop with a twist. Laden with real Hawaiiana collectibles, surf trophies and authentic island memorabilia, Malibu Shirts is a purveyor of reproduction fashions, mostly t-​shirts and and some accessories, from the 1940s to the early 1970s. If Crazy Shirts were around circa 1955, albeit with a more refined touch, this might be what it would look like.
The store is outfitted in warm, golden bamboo, with cases containing a wide array of materials, articles and bric-​à-​brac of The Hawaiian Islands. If you aren’t shopping, you won’t be bored waiting for others to complete their purchases. There is so much eye candy, history and detail to admire, visiting alone is a great way to spend a half hour out of the sun.
Velzy, Duke Kahanamoku, Waikiki Beach Boys and many more, have their old logos and designs printed on short, long and tank t-​shirts. Most, if not all, are preshrunk 100% cotton. All run a little large, except the sweatshirts, which run about what you would expect.
While I have been to the two other locations, I can’t heap enough praise on Nelson at this store. Nelson greets me by name, even if he has not seen me in 6 months, knows what I like and goes out of his way to chat me up. If I am walking past the store, he smiles and waves. What I most appreciate about Nelson is that he is this friendly and professional with everyone. He really personifies the aloha spirit.
If I had any complaints, it would be a the slow roll out of new designs. I want some new t-​shirts to buy! I’d also like to see some towels done with vintage designs, separate from the t-​shirts (don’t put the t-​shirts designs on the towels,; find some cool towels from that era and reproduce them). Swim and board shorts from the 1950s would be great, too.
Are the t-​shirts more expensive than the ABC store? Yes, and IMHO, they are worth it. I can’t wait to visit the islands and shop here again.

Went to this store last week while staying in Waikiki. All of the shirts are vintage style, short sleeve and long sleeve, mostly ranging from $ 24-​$ 29 each.
What my husband and I liked most about this store is their selection of Primo Beer shirts. Can’t really get those anywhere else. They had Primo shirts with the newest logo, as well as ones with the vintage logo. My husband ended up getting a blue vintage short sleeve Primo shirt.
If you’re in Waikiki and looking for some unique shirts, check this place out. Much different from the more mainstream t-​shirts at the surf shops in the area.

I bought a «Endless Summer» t-​shirt online, very cool retro design, good quality, arrived on time, gets noticed by the old surf guys (its based on an iconic surf movie)

Love visiting this store. I go to this one or the one in Whalers Village on Maui every year. It’s got a cool retro vibe and the museum stuff is always really cool — even my kids like this store. Shirts are really high quality so I don’t mind the higher price. You get what you pay for, right?
Staff we have dealt with have been super friendly and actually know the history on their shirt designs and the museum displays. Haven’t checked out the new stores yet, but it’ll be on our to do list when we’re back next year.

I visited the store the last night I was in Hawaii. I really liked the Pan-​Am T-​shirt I had purchased three years ago. To my surprise, they had a hooded sweatshirt with the same Pan-​Am logo. I unfolded the sweatshirt to determine which size would fit me best when the cashier abruptly interrupted me only to point out that the same sweatshirts were hanging up. Basically, she was scolding me for unfolding the sweatshirts in lieu of trying on sweatshirts that were already hung up. I was very upset with this however I decided to purchase the sweatshirt anyway. I went up the counter and mention to the cashier that she should not make the customers feel bad for unfolding the sweatshirts. Instead of apologizing she said «I’m the only one here». Apparently my advice did not matter to her.
When I left, I unfolded my sweatshirt only to find that it was too big. I guess I felt «rushed» for trying to find the right size. The last thing I wanted to do was to go back into the shop to exchange it for the right size, but it was $ 65 and I had to. I went to the cashier and explained that I needed to exchange it for the correct size and I gave her a medium size, she then stated that the sweatshirt I handed her «smelled funny» and proceeded to exchange the sweatshirt for what I thought was a size medium.
At the Honolulu airport the next day I realized that she had given me a small sized sweatshirt. Obviously, I was very, very upset and proceeded to call the Malibu shirt company directly in California. I spoke to who I thought was the owner and he was very apologetic and advised me to send him the sweatshirt to their California location and they would exchange it out for the right size and send some free T-​shirts for my inconvenience.
When I arrived home, I spent approximately $ 11 to send the sweatshirt to California only to receive it back with no free T-​shirts, but I did get the correct size. It’s not that I care about receiving the free T-​shirts I just wanted somebody to follow through with their word. Now I don’t even want the damn thing.

Shirts are relatively expensive at $ 29. I like their designs though. Their sizes run a little large. I’m usually a medium, but I had to get a size small.

LIfe is not fair.
I saw the Roland Leong shirt first.
I built the model of Roland Leong’s «Hawaiian» dragster at age 8.
I knew this car was the first and only in NHRA history to win two consecutive championships (’65-’66) with two different drivers.
Who better to appreciate the repro shirt with the «Hawaiian» slingshot rail dragster launching in front of an enormous pineapple to commemorate this achievement?
My wife, as it turns out.
They only had sizes S and way too big for me. Determined, I squeezed my M body into that S shirt. I looked like a packed parachute ready to pop at the end of the quarter mile… or your average SF marina guy. I was already in slippers.
The store manager was most helpful and offered to send me one of these exclusive pieces when available. Many of the designs at Malibu are not retro-​inspired, but genuine re-​pops of period designs produced in limited quantities. My dragster shirt is exclusive to this location, even if ordered online.
I may not need it. The one on my wife looks hotter than bleached tires under a Christmas tree*.
