LXS Hawaii

tl;dr — Chad is great, I highly recommend LXS. He is honest, his work is good and his communication is right on. The first time I brought the car to him, they «fixed it» — like when your computer is broken and the IT guy/​girl comes and then suddenly it works? Yeah, that’s him. The second time, we thought we had something terrible on our hands. A big bill. But nope. And he basically refused to do any extra maintenance that we didn’t TRULY need to have done. He took care of the Check Engine light, and we’re on our way.
Here’s the big story:
We bought a lemon… I mean LEXUS. Our «Island Beater» while we waited for the other car to come from the Mainland.
It was old, but the guy swore up and down it was great, had the timing belt done, etc.
Oh, it was his wife’s car really, they owned it for years but now just don’t use it.
We were tired. We’d looked at a bunch of cars, and every day we were losing money on the rental. It was our fault. We bought it.
Turned out (via poorly timed CarFax) that it had been at (insert honda dealers name here) for months and seemingly hadn’t sold. Within days, this guy bought it, cleaned it up a little and sold it to us. As soon as we drove away, the check engine light came on.
We went to another mechanic (who I will review shortly) who was very nice and fixed some of our more pressing issues, but things just didn’t work out. We’re still friends.
I was able to get an appointment with Chad — and the rest of the story is at the beginning of this endless review.
Make sure you call for an appointment. Make sure you have a ride so that you can leave your car. Teddy’s Burgers is right across the street (a little down the block) so you can have lunch! Otherwise there’s really nothing around there.

I had high hopes of this shop after reading the other reviews. But, when your request for service is compared with BK, your questions are not answered, and you end up educating the shop yourself (with a not so appreciative thank you), I am not going back.
I gave two stars as the shop is really clean and was easy to get an appointment.

Chad is the guy to see for all your Lexus or Toyota needs! Friendly, reliable, great service, and much more affordable than the dealer! Just make sure to call ahead to make an appointment because his shop is always busy.
My family has been going to him for several years now, and he always does a great job fixing our cars — from the most minor jobs (like one time Jiffy Lube didn’t put the air filter back in correctly), to fixing our A/​C, among many other jobs he’s done for our Lexus cars.
He always gives me and my family good service, but he went the extra mile this one time my grandma lent me her Lexus RX330 — only to find that there was a nail in the tire, so within a few hours I had a flat. Since my work is close to Sam’s club, I pumped my tire and drove there to get a new tire. Doesn’t seem like anything special, right? Well… When I got there, I found out my grandma didn’t have the lug nut key in her car. I flipped the car inside out and couldn’t find it. So Sam’s couldn’t change the tire! You can imagine how stressed I was. Well, I called Chad, he was just about to close for the day, but he came to the rescue (literally)! I texted him a pic of the lock, and he came all the way to Sam’s club to bring the key to take off the locks. Now that is what I call service — Chad went the extra mile to help me out without even charging us for his time!
Now that my mom, my brother, and I have 2015 Lexus cars each, we don’t expect to see Chad so often, but I know who to call if I ever have trouble in the future!

After months of reminding, NOT nagging, my husband to take his Toyota Tacoma TRD truck in for its scheduled maintenance, he finally did it. He chose to make an appointment with Chad shortly after I had to take my vehicle in for minor repair during one of our State’s rainiest days. So we played a little vehicle ballet as I picked up my car and followed him through driving rain while he dropped off his truck to Chad. He had arranged to leave his truck overnight
The next morning, Chad called my husband with some «bad news»… it was going to be a BIG job. The poor ol’ truck needed to have its timing belt, drive belt, spark plugs, water pump, thermostat, radiator flushed and ignition wireset replaced. Chad said that we were fortunate that the timing belt hadn’t given up the ghost while we drove about. We gave him authority to perform replacement and repairs that he recommended while holding our breath as he calculated an estimate. We left our truck overnight again due to the bad weather and picked it up the following day. Whoa! My husband immediately noticed that his truck ran so much better. it was quieter, rode and drove more smoothly and even had more pep upon acceleration. The work and equipment replacement has given my husband’s truck a new lease on Life for less than $ 2000! That was a deal as it would have probably cost us even more had we not brought our truck in for servicing.
We have been entrusting our Toyota and Lexus vehicles to Chad and his crew for nearly 2 decades. His mechanics are ASE Certified and can perform full service maintenance and mechanical repair on all Toyota and Lexus vehicles. The value of finding a reliable, trustworthy, knowledgeable and budget-​friendly is priceless!

I have 2 Lexus LS models 400 and 430. Recently went to the dealer to fix some issues and I felt as though I didn’t get the service I deserved. So I decided to jump on Unilocal to find a good repair shop. I came across LXS Hawaii. Made an appointment and took both cars in to get fix and serviced. Chad is amazing. Chad and team completely transformed both of our Lexus’s. I will always take my Lexus their vs the dealer. He is honest and reliable. He even washed my car because of the construction. I am a customer for as long as I own a Lexus.

Owner is a seasoned 26+ years Lexus mechanic and knows his stuff. This shop is everything Lexus and that why I love it. Not impressed by shops that work on any ‘kine’ cars. This shop focuses on one brand (Toyota/​Lexus) so you can feel confident in their expertise. Owner is very personable and kind. No waiting room here but he was gracious enough to let me sit a while in his office as I waited for my car. He even loaned me a charger for my phone. My memory may be failing me but I think his name is Chad. Anyway I highly recommend LXS HAWAII as your dealer alternative. Chad and his team get 5 stars.

Chad, Chad, Chad! Every positive review about LXS Hawaii is very true. These guys are honest, way the heck less than going to the Lexus dealership. I went in for an oil change, $ 80. There were some squeaking whenever I braked and was told there wasn’t anything wrong with them. Lexus would probably have me redo my entire brake system. Chad’s crew greased up some auto part which I have no clue on and the squeaking was gone. Definitely coming back!

Great place to bring your Lexus car and much more affordable. Customer service is great and he remembers you. Honest about what you need done to your car and when it needs to be done. Very friendly and convenient. Specializes in Lexus and Toyota cars. Chad is awesome.

Chad and his guys are the best. I’ve had some repairs on my truck over the years. They do great repairs and get me in and out asap. I know my truck is in good hands with Chad.

Great service with a great price. It was my first time here to get my car’s water pump n a/​c belt fixed. Chad explained everything to me n they got my car fixed in a few hours. I didn’t have to wait all day for my car like I did at Servco. I will definitely be back again!!! I just wished they could fix Hondas n Nissan cars too. :)

I’ve been taking my cars to LXS Hawaii for 3 years now. I am very impressed with their high quality of service/​expertise. They have earned my trust, and saved me a lot of money! They only service or fix what needs to be done and in a timely manner. Always!
Why 5 stars? Compared to Servco (Toyota & Lexus) and Honda service their prices are 30−40% less and they don’t just add on things that don’t need to be done. Compared to retail chain car centers they specialize in Lexus and Toyota and have years of experience working with those vehicles.
TRUSTWORTHY, SAVE $$$, & QUALITY WORK!

I’ve had a few Lexus’s (is plural Lexi?) in my day and I try to take the cars to Chad for the projects that I can’t do myself. I like that they specialize in Toyota and Lexus, which means they have a thorough knowledge of the car and know your car in and out.
Most recently I needed my valve cover gasket, spark plugs, and transmission fluid changed on my GS400. I dropped the car off in the morning and by early afternoon it was finished. Total cost was just under $ 600.
They’re probably slightly more expensive than a general automotive shop, but are worth the extra dough for the peace of mind of quality work. Chad will also work with you and tell you what you don’t need, or if you can take it elsewhere for cheaper. I will always take my Toyota or Lexus here.

You know how everyone looks for that 1 mechanic that they use for the rest of their life… Well our former mechanic is loosing his mind and started to become a grouchy man with talent. :-) Almost to the point that I’m afraid to tell him something’s wrong with my car. Took my Lexus in to get my brakes fixed and picked it up with it being worst off. HUH? I thought to my self. Am I imagining this or am I now loosing my mind too. Well after fixing my brakes three times in three weeks I was DONE!
Then I recalled this really nice warehouse with a LXS Hawaii sign up. The aha moment happened. Had my better half schedule and appointment to give my car a total look over and what I thought was wrong, really was wrong and then some. But all of Chad’s suggestions was spot on. It was a relief to talk to someone who knows what he’s doing and knows it well. Chad ordered my parts and said that I would be okay to drive my car just don’t go four wheeling. I think the previous owners thought my car was Godzilla from the scars it has.
I waited about a week for my parts to come in and took it back to get my repairs completed. I noticed as soon as I drove it off the lot that it felt better. What a relief! Found an amazing mechanic that was cheaper than the dealer. We wish him the best of luck because we need him to stick around till we have grand kids and then some. hahahaha

Chad and his team of Lexus/​Toyota specialists are awesome! This little shop is located right after the Beretania + Isenberg intersection and offers very fair pricing and quality work. My car was having trouble starting and AAA told me it was my alternator, not the battery. My battery was still under warranty and test results deemed a «replacement highly recommended,» but they also said I had a failing alternator that was draining my battery, so I had to get that fixed first and then they would test it again to see if the battery itself really is faulty. GEEZ!
Usually I go to Kaimuki Auto for my repairs, but after getting a price quote for the alternator from both places, I found that LXS was about $ 100 cheaper. (Of course, both places are $$$$ cheaper than the dealership –_​_​– !) Chad mentioned that they can’t assume it’s the alternator as AAA said and will have to do a full inspection of the problem. Totally understandable. But anyways, I dropped my car off right before they closed and he finished by lunch time the next day. When he called me to tell me my car was ready, he warned me that in addition to my failing alternator, the battery itself was no good. (Like I thought in the first place, AAA!) As a courtesy, they put a new battery in and charged me for it, but he said I could get it replaced by AAA because of the warranty, bring the battery back, and get a full refund. He apologized and mentioned that because I’m a first time customer, he charged me because we haven’t yet really established business. For his regular customers he would probably just loan them the battery no charge. That’s an awesome service and I respect and understand why he charged me. The next day I got my battery replaced for free by AAA, and returned the battery to LXS Hawaii for a full refund. Though it was a bit of an inconvenience (just lucky it happened during a less busy week), it was a good compromise that worked for both parties. The best part was the alternator service charge was exactly what he quoted me on the phone.
I will go back to LXS Hawaii for my next car problem, although I hope it won’t be any time soon.

Like many of you I had problems finding a reputable mechanic on Oahu. I stumbled onto LXS through Unilocal.I had a scary problem with my 1999 4Runner where the car would not hold idle from a start, or much worse, the engine would die while I was going down the road, leaving me with no power steering or brakes!
The first time it happened I had the car towed. The tow truck guy swore it must be the alternator. The mechanic he towed me to kept my car for a full day and returned it to me: they were unable to find a problem and did not charge me anything. Two other mechanics I described the problem to were convinced it was the fuel pump.
After the car died while going down the H3 (very frightening!) I finally took the car into LXS. Unfortunately Chad was also not able to duplicate the problem — however he has a database of all the maintenance he has performed, and looking through his records he was able to show that while he’s only had to replace one 4Runner fuel pump, he had replaced 28 idle air control valves. Between that and the fact that I was not having the normal fuel pump symptoms he convinced me that the valve was most likely the culprit. Even though it was getting late in the day by this point he quickly changed the valve and got me on my way.
That was more than two months ago and I have not had any more problems with the car dying. I highly recommend Chad and LXS for quality work and fair prices.
