L’Amour Salon

I went here on an impulse for a pedicure because happened to be in the neighborhood. To me, cleanliness is important. The pedi station was simple. If not for the reviews, I would not have thought that many came here for that service. While pricier than most places, I don’t think it was worth the price as I had to tell the employee that there was still dried skin on my foot. There was NO massage and the lotion was iffy.
What appalled me the most was watching another employee take a brush from another station, clean off the hair, and then use it to brush her client’s wet hair. This, alone, makes me question the cleanliness of this establishment. I don’t think I will be returning.

I’m new to Oahu and needed to find a close new hair salon. I googled and Unilocaled all over and decided on L’Amour. I was not disappointed! Another reviewer commented about how it was quiet. Yes, it was quiet other than the radio playing, but honestly it was a relief. I walked in around 4:00pm and was seated immediately. Regretfully, I didn’t catch my stylist’s name, but she sat me down, asked what I wanted, and got straight to work. All I told her was that I wanted layers and side bangs and it came out as one of the best haircuts I’ve ever got. She layered it perfectly and even thinned it without me having to ask. Usually when I ask to thin my hair, the hair dressers seem nervous about it. I will def be coming back here. Thank you!

Great job doing my daughter’s hair. She has a lot of kinky hair. Great job with the flat iron. A little more than I paid in the mainland but worth it.

Friendly, family business with good prices for top work. They also do men’s hair and have an area for mani pedis. They have my boyfriend a pretty slick undercut fade. I think this is his new regular spot!

I’ve experienced much better. I got my nails done here last month, haven’t really gotten around writing the review till now, for the price I expected alittle better treatment, after taking off my gel nails and with tip this shitty manicure cost me 30 $.
So basically it gets 2 stars case the manicure wasn’t bad it’s the way she rushed me when she couldn’t upsell me, she rushed me very hard and put the polish on pretty sloppy and thick, she put the top coat on too quick so the coat udnerneath never full dried till the next day. I had to buy the polish and do some repairs myself.
Honestly it’s sad when they treat you rushed and shit cause they realize you just want the basics. At first I thought it was a good job until I realized the polish just wasn’t drying and she had put it on too thick and the top coat over too fast sigh.
Wouldn’t recommend. Maybe they threat u better if you’re spending more, maybe i’m just unlucky.

I don’t understand why anyone would ever review this place as less then 5 stars. The workers are wonderful and always remember their customers. My boyfriend has come here for haircuts many times and they always do it perfectly. I’ll admit they have a very small staff but that’s common with a small business like this. The stylists are very well trained and I’ve never had a problem in my 5 years of going here.

I usually take my son for a haircut, pretty good price 13 bucks, considering that he hate getting his haircut and I have to sit in the chair with him hold him down and try to keep his head straight. The ladies here take it all in stride and know him lol.
I decided to come and get a cut one day out of the blue since I was shopping in the Lake. Cindy the stylist was awesome. I showed her a picture of what I wanted and that is exactly what I got. Price was only 40 bucks for a wash, cut, and blowout. My usual place charges about 60. Still loyal to my regular stylist, but definitely would come back here if my stylist is not around. Definitely trust Cindy to do it right.

So convenient for when I need to do my nails, love the styles but needs work on their social skills.

Worst salon. They did a horrible hair color and now Im stuck with it for 4 weeks. They changed the price from 40 to 60!!! FRAUD!
I walked out of their crying over my hair and they didn’t even care to offer to fix it for me.

So couple days ago I got my haircut here by the hairstylist name Alyssa and all I can say is. Awesome. You won’t regret it. At first I was pretty nervous because when I normally get my haircut it always turns out a disaster but nope. Alyssa actually LISTENS she’s the first hairstylist ever to not cut my length and she takes her time. End result? I loved it! So if your looking to get a haircut and get your money worth call & make an appointment with her.

I’ve been to this salon previously for a pedicure and found the women all very nice, so when we were looking for a waxing place we were not too against calling to get pricing…
Called and asked how much they charge for an arm waxing. The woman on the phone said $ 18. I was a little surprised at that low amount and asked if it was for a full or partial arm wax she said $ 18 for a full arm. I clarified again and said is that per arm? Nope $ 18 for a full arm no appointment necessary. We had called a few waxing salons so this was an awesome deal — or so we thought…
We get there and put our name on the list and the woman comes out and asks me if I’m ready to get my eyebrows done and I explain that it’s not for me or my eyebrows, it’s for my husband and his arms. So we walk back to the «waxing chair». Another woman asks what service we would like and we explain again a full arm wax. She starts cutting my husbands arm hair with a pair of kitchen scissors and then started waxing. The cloth strips were being used over and over until they were no longer sticking to the wax on his arm, and the applicator was being used over and over… This should have all been a sign of bad news… That is not hygienic or good practice at all!!!
After the first arm was about 90% done my husband shows the woman a few patches of hair that she missed. There were several other employees that kept walking back to the waxing area and one stopped and said «it looks fine». The woman got tweezers and started tweezing several hairs until my husband asked if she could just please wax the area again. Didn’t happen. She got to he next arm and same thing happened… I walked over and showed her the hairs still on his arms. She re-​waxed some of the areas, but ignored most. This happened a couple of times.
When they were done my husbands arms had hives on them with large patches of hair, still visible; one arm was done almost up to his shoulder, the other only up to his elbow. Again pointed this out and also was ignored. We got up to pay and she said $ 52.00, I question that and explain that when we called they said $ 18. Another women spoke up and said no I told you that was for underarms. Not wanting to argue — as my husband is in pain with hives — I pay, meanwhile, he asked if they could please remove a lump of wax that was left on the back of his arm.
After we got to the car we called another waxing salon to get this hack job fixed, and made an appointment for 2 hours later. By this time my husbands arms are bright red and he has welts on his skin. We washed the products off at the nearest bathroom and the redness and swelling finally subsided.
Never will we go to L’Amore Salon again. This was the most unprofessional and horrible waxing I’ve ever encountered!!! If it were possible to give zero stars we would have… Customers beware of waxing here!!! Not clean, not professional, not thorough!!!

BEWARE.
I chose Lamour Salon after hearing a raving review from a friend of mine. And I figured, all I need is a trim and some layers, simple right? WRONG. I had been growing my hair out for years, it was almost down to my waist, and my absolute pride and glory. But over time my tips had become frayed with split ends. So I walked into this salon knowing exactly what I wanted. I was taken immediately to the back to have my hair washed by a very friendly elderly women, with whom I had pleasant conversation with. After towel drying my hair, she pointed to an Asian male playing on his phone seated in one of the chairs, and explained that he was going to be the one to cut my hair. I explained that I needed to trim my split ends, while keeping my hair as long as possible, as well as some long layers. He said yes and dismissed my further explanations. Here’s where things start to go downhill. Without even combing through the knots in my hair, he immediately starts cutting off huge pieces of hair. Red bells start going off in my head, but I kept reassuring myself that he knew what he was doing. Long story short, by the end of my «trim», my hair that had previously been to my waist, was now barely touching my shoulders, as well as ridiculously thinned out. The worst part, he gave me bangs that I had not asked for. And not cute flowy bangs, but straight across bangs that looked TERRIBLE. It was hands down the worst hair cut I had ever gotten. I broke down in tears the moment I walked out there door. He cut the top layer of my hair so short that I can no longer even put my hair in a ponytail; I would say at least 11 inches of hair gone. I have to use over 9 bobby pins to hold my unwanted bangs out if my face.
I also later found out that a coworker of mind had also received a terrible hair cut from the same place and guy.
I would not recommend this place, I will certainly never go back.

ok. if you’ve read nothing else, just read this… DO NOT COME HERE. I repeat… DO NOT COME HERE!!!
so my daughter and I walked in and was seated at a massage chair. this lady walks out with a bucket of water and tells me to put my feet in. I informed her that my daughter was going to get one too. I also asked if she could do a callus removal. She turns around and says something to the other lady then starts laughing. mind you they were speaking in their own language. I didn’t know if they were talking about me or what so I felt super uncomfortable. as she continued she kept talking under her breathe which then got me pissed. I told her I did not want to continue and that I would pay for whatever she did this far (even though all she did was put my feet in water). I could have been overreacting but I’m going to react based off of what I’m observing and at that time I felt as though they were laughing at me. speaking a different language is great but don’t do in front of people that don’t understand. especially in customer service. ITS RUDE!!!

Busy but they got me in. However I always felt on edge about being there. It’s not my scene. And they didn’t make me feel at ease throughout the entire process. I left graciously but not happily.
1) too quiet — I’m a bold, fun woman and I felt like I walked on sacred ground with my shoes on.
2) greeted — in their own way, I was greeted fine, but they seemed stressed by all their clients. Every employee was working, concentrating on their clients. The girl closest to me helped me. Said she could get me in in 15min. They did.
3) communication — I like people who speak English so I know that they know what I want. I had to ask numerous times what the girl was doing to my hair. I showed her the photos I wanted done and I didn’t know if she was actually going to match them or not. I like bold cuts; I went from long (long to me) to short. I like super short. Hen she started texturing my hair with the scissors had to ask her if that’s how long she was going to make it. Cuz I wanted at least another inch and a half off. When I told her this again, she started cutting again. So it took her a long time to do my short hairstyle. I loved the back. Loved that she honored my wishes that she did understand, but the entire time I was unsure of her and myself. I’ve been through so many hairdressers. I move a lot. I can’t find and keep one that matches me. When I do find them, they leave instead. And I’m stuck without someone who knows me. Sigh. Loyalty is hard to find. Despite the uneasiness, she did do her job. But the styling was limited. She told me I’m able to be very versatile with my haircut. So I hoped my own artistic expertise would help my hair become what I wanted it to look like. Because I saw the potential, but with their products, it couldn’t be how I like it. Edgy and punkish but clean feeling.
Product — limited, I mean they didn’t have texturizing whip like I use. She didn’t know what Redken was. They had hair spray, mousse, gel, and pomade. All of which make my hair sticky. So I opted for the hair spray.
Skill — she seemed to allow my ‘natural hair part’ to remain in the center. People who do not take control of my hair and manipulate in their own way will always see my hair center-​parted. That was a red flag for me. And really put me on edge. I’ve never met a stylist who didn’t know about the rotation of hAir and how it’s simple to change the direction in which hair parts. You follow the flow of the hair. It only goes center part when I do t do anything with my hair. I can have it manipulated in so many ways, you just have to have the security I. Yourself to know you can make the change. Don’t let my hair boss you around, you boss my hair around. It was a personality test for me; the first stylist who didn’t take control of my hair. Hmm…
Price — Very reasonable, considering my last haircut cost me almost as much as a car payment. $ 26 for a cut. They didn’t ask to see my ID though I did have a military ID on me and we discussed my family’s military life though I’m now a veteran, not active. But it’d be nice if they checked ID, and had the option of giving a tip through my debit card, cuz I don’t carry cash on me often. I only had a couple dollars in change. So I feel bad I couldn’t tip more. It’s just courtesy.
Cleanliness — Very clean. I liked the teamwork of the place. I didn’t feel dirty when I walked in.
Overall — busy but not hectic, too quiet, but good for mature kids and adults. Not good for people who want to laugh and be loud and have a relationship with their stylist. Unless they want a cultured relationship with their stylist. It’s just not my cup of tea. And talking to co-​workers in another language always puts me on edge. At my old work it was a rule to always speak in the Common Tongue because a couple of the ladies I worked with we’re talking smack about my comrades to their face. Someone who spoke the language overheard them and told their supervisor. So I never know what other people are saying. But I always have a laugh about it cuz it reminds me of The Dictator by Sacha during the helicopter scene. Lost in translation. So funny. (Wow. Totally off topic.)
Aftercare — so I got home and showered to get the extra hair off my back. I should have trusted the stylist. It was what I asked for. I used Redken 04 and a blow dryer. I could style it any way I wished. It also looked great down as is. My hair easily switched it’s parting to the side like I made it. So I styled it how I use do for the time being and it looks great. I just wish the stylist had the confidence to be as bold and daring. I’m not knocking people who go with the flow, but the customer should feel comfortable in that chair. I never did. Always nervous. Always questioning. Not an awful experience but not the best I’ve had. I’m just happy it worked out in the end, and she did a good job. I do t have to get it recut unless I want it colored and highlighted. I may return. I may not. My options are limited.

Tried them out tonight for a haircut and highlight based on their proximity to my work/​house and based on Unilocal reviews. I emailed off their website and received an email saying my time frame within the next 2 days would work. Score!
So I go in today, 1 day after making contact, and sit right down in Cindy’s chair. I show her photos of the type of highlights and haircut I want. She is unable to do either b/​c of the color and length of my hair, but I tell her to try her best.
Sitting for the highlights was pretty standard, she keeps checking and I finally have to sit under a heat lamp b/​c my hair isn’t taking the color and is taking longer than expected. Then, an older lady washes my hair and it was the most strange technique, she kept massaging the bubbles into my hair and making a pile of hair on my head, then patting it. Meanwhile, I’m getting water down my back and water/​bubbles in my ears. This was the least enjoyable part of the experience. It was freezing, wet, and uncomfortable.
I have to wait a few mins b/​c Cindy is now cutting someone else’s hair so I take another strange experience to their bathroom, which is down the exterior corridor and back up some stairs.
When I saw my hair wet and tangled, I was a bit worried about the color of the highlights but they turned out great. Also, Cindy spent about 45 mins cutting my hair. It seemed really precise and it blew out great.
Now, here’s the most important point. Although I was there for close to 3 hours and the wash part was totally weird, my highlights and hair cut were amazing and it came to $ 115 with tax. I have been all over this island for 2+ years to ‘master cutters,’ upscale salons, Super Cuts, etc… just trying to find someone, anyone who can give me a blunt point cut that I actually like. Really like. Cindy did it and for about $ 200 cheaper than what I’ve spent at other places for really crappy highlights and cuts. I mean, really bad cuts for a lot of money.
So, all in all, I would definitely return and recommend anyone locally try them. I saw various people walking in – younger male teens, older women, and they were all getting what appeared to be technically savvy cuts.
UPDATE ABOUT 6 WEEKS LATER: Unfortunately, after I starting fixing my own hair, it wouldn’t lie right, it was sticking out weirdly on the sides. Bummer. More concerning was that several parts of my hair had frayed and frazzled ends that I eventually had to cut out of my hair – my hair was so damaged in parts that it felt like someone had put glue in my hair. I’m talking I had to cut out an inch or two all over my head. Pretty scary – I can only think the coloring agent they used fried the edges of my hair and this has never ever happened anywhere before. Ever. On this visit, the girl did say «Your hair is taking a long time to lift» so I’m thinking she left the color on so long it damaged my hair. Beware.

We took our boys to get their hair cut and they are so thorough. They did not rush us out at all. Then I got my eyebrows waxed. Cindy did they best job I have ever had.
Totally recommend for husbands and kids hair!

So this was my second visit ever to a real hair salon. My usual haircut routine is to check out either Great Clips or Super Cuts — yeah one of those ubiquitous chain salons that I first got hooked on during undergrad, taking a step up from a haircut at home.
L’Amour Salon is owned and run by a Vietnamese family. The prices for haircuts, waxing, etc. seem reasonable. My particular haircutter/​dresser/​stylist Cindy did a great job with my general guidelines about layers and length (I’m not particular about how my hair should look).
So I’ll be back. I like the idea of supporting a local owned and operated hair salon, especially one run by my people and super close to my home.

I needed a haircut. L’Amour Salon recently opened in the Salt Lake Shopping Center. I conduct a lot of my business at the Salt Lake Shopping Center. So, I decided to give them a shot.
Just before doing so, I stopped in at TSB to say «howdy» to the enchanting young ladies who work there. They were oddly excited to hear I was going to try out the new salon and insisted I come back so they could see my new haircut.
There was a short wait while the two haircutresses finished up with two young spiky haired punks. But in no time, I was in the chair and being asked how I wanted my hair.
This is always awkward for me. I don’t know how to describe what kind of haircut I want. I usually answer something like this: «I don’t know… something like it is now but shorter… you’re a professional, do what you think is best.» This usually works for me and it did today, but once it earned me an unwanted flat-​top.
Shortly after she started, I did get a bit nervous about putting my trust into this place because another young punk came in and asked to have his giant mohawk cleaned up. Suddenly I was remembering my unwanted flat-​top!
No worries, I got a nice clean conservative haircut just like I wanted. She took her time and paid close attention to detail. I was happy with her work.
But now for the real test: I popped back in to the bank to show off my new quaff. They all seemed dually impressed.
Okay, for the real real test: when I got home my lovely wife was pleased with my new haircut as well.
So for $ 16 + tax + tip (Let’s call it $ 20) a fellow can get a conservative, punked-​out, or probably an anywhere in between haircut from L’Amour Salon in Salt Lake.
Like I told the haircutress as I was paying, «See you next time!»
