Okay, so I’ll admit it. I really used to hate Nexus. As a middle-aged female, when I originally went in there(multiple times) when we first moved to Gresham in 2012, I got ignored, treated like I didn’t know anything about games(I actually work in the gaming industry!), and was generally treated poorly. However, I /really/needed some card sleeves and so went back a couple of weeks ago, for the first time in over a year. WHAT A CHANGE! Not only have the remodeled/restructured the store to contain a lot more product(and a much wider range, including comics, memorabilia, geeky knick knacks, action figures, t-shirts, etc…) but I was actually greeted when I came in the door. The guy working the counter(I feel so bad that I can’t remember his name!) was friendly, engaging, polite, and TALKEDWITHME about what I was purchasing, why, and gave me lots of ideas and options. If you have given up on Nexus in the past, please consider giving them another try. I hope you’ll find your experience as surprising and pleasant as I did. I’m very happy to have another FLGS that I’ll actually frequent again in Gresham.(For card and board games, I recommend Off The Chart Games, who are also AWESOME, but they don’t carry the broad variety of Magic, comics, rpgs, and«geek necessities» that Nexus now does.)

One of the few times I’ve been to a game place as such! Very colorful and open to the teens to play instore games. The staff were very helpful & now I’m thinking«it could be fun to be a nerd»!!

Do frequent this buisness if you enjoy clerks who give bad customer service. I’ve recieved hostile attitudes and have been outright ignored with my cash in hand by one employee while he gave a dressing down to his toddler age daughter. The inventory is okay.

If you play Magic: The Gathering anywhere in the greater Portland area, this is /the place/to purchase all your singles in bulk and at the best prices. Not only are these prices competitive locally, but usually better than online dealers and even eBay closing prices. Jeff, the man behind the singles Wednesday to Sunday, maintains a fully functioning inventory of the whole store’s magic collection… in…his…head, AND demonstrates that rare finger dexterity first revealed to me by Cusack’s character in Being John Malkovich to find the cards I want to buy — sometimes quicker than I can even ask for them. In short, this is the only local vendor that opens the volume needed to reliably supply the Portland magic community with singles with up-to-date prices. Other than selling me singles, this joint doesn’t offer me much else. The FNM is in the Standard format and starts too late at 6:30 meaning I always have to drop before all the rounds are finished in order to catch the public transit home, but there is a good-sized crowd of regulars who play.
