Dont waste your time or money on this food. Definitely not TX style and i am trying to figure out how you mess up chicken and beef. No seasoning or flavor unless you put the terrible sauce on it. BBQ should have flavor from the pit and spice. No doubt my worst experience for bbq in TX.

This place is terrible and so far removed from the legendary Saltlick BBQ at Driftwood. I ordered my food and couldn’t eat it, I was gagging so bad. The brisket, the potato salad, the beans, everything served was putrid, as were the meats. I am still gagging. This place is outright criminal –to claim the Saltlick name is criminal. Check out my Unilocal review for the original location… this place is a far cry from that

This is the second time I tried this place. First time the Brisket was so dry it was in edible with out tons of sauce. The sauce they us is not a Texas sauce but South Carolina mustard style sauce which if you know SC it don’t go well with brisket. I wondered why before I tried it they slathered it all over the meat without asking Texas style sauce is a condiment not a necessity, and there was no dry rub on meat which is Texas style. I compete in BBQ contest and cook Texas style if brisket is done right no sauce is needed. The second chance I gave them no one speaker any English all aribic and could not understand the the SOBE Life water was out said it is water no flavor see clear water well I get the SOBE water(pomegranate) all the time should be pink and they couldn’t understand anything laughed at me. I got the smoked sausage sandwich which the covered in mustard sauce again even when I asked them not to they couldn’t understand I didn’t want sauce sausage was good with no sauce sauce again don’t go with smoked saisage. French fries only would give them 5 stars it that’s all they served but overall bad service and attitude gives it a 1. SEE Attached photos as shows I know BBQ

The service here was really bad. They were out of iced tea at 6 pm. I pointed this out politely and the guy behind the counter scowled and rolled his eyes. He started making tea. I was done eating my somewhat dry chicken and the tea still wasn’t out. I asked a woman who seemed like a manager and she poured me a tea without any apology. It tasted awful. I told her this and asked if I could just grab a bottle of water and, again; no apology. They need to get their act together. The Austin airport location has never been that bad.

I’ve only ever gotten food here a couple times but whenever I am in Dallas-Fort Worth airport this is a must for me because it is legendary barbecue. If you ever get a chance to go to the original restaurant you have to go! They only offer a few items here at this location but they offer their food very quickly. The last sandwich I had was prepared rather hastily with an uneven distribution of meat and sauce but the flavor was spot on and definitely made me feel nostalgic for the original. If you’re ever in dfw you have to go here. My favorite BBQ on the planet!

Sides are lame and overly saucy except the coleslaw of which they RANOUT. Typical disaffected airport workers give the salt luck a BADNAME. The real deal is worth the trip. This is a waste of money.

Was on a personal trip back home to New Jersey when I wanted to grab some Texas BBQ. Came here, and was surprised they don’t let you order by the pound on the meat. Secondly, it seems as if the guys behind the counter were making fun of me since I had asked for those things(they were speaking in another language, so I wasn’t sure). Third, when I had asked to substitute ice cream for french fries(since they did not have any that day due to fryer issues), they laughed and said no. All in all, would probably never come back to this Salt Lick BBQ ever again. I want to give Salt Lick a chance since people say it’s amazing(and the pictures say so), but definitely not an airport Salt Lick EVER again.

I thought this was a decent place in an airport for a quick bite. Now, I’m not an expert in Texas BBQ, but most people traveling through an airport perhaps don’t have the same high standards as all Texans ;) I do agree with the other reviewers. The meat is just fine — it’s not as good as ones that are smoked in-house, but it still tasted good. The sides are disappointing though, and unless you are getting a meal deal, I don’t really recommend getting them. As usual, it’s a bit pricey, but it’s not that bad comparing to normal airport food.

Nothing like the actual restaurant in Driftwood, TX. Unfortunately travelers will think this is real BBQ, and they’ll be willing to pay ridiculous prices for it too. Almost $ 17 for a brisket plate that would barely fill up a small child.

It’s not the real salt lick BBQ but flying through DFW, I’ll take it any day over BBQ back home in Seattle. Definitely brings back memories of living in Texas for this now Seattlelite. And it’s way better than Dicky’s, but I think the prices must have either gone up or the airport inflated the price. $ 20 dollars for a rib platter and fountain drink…

This place is taking breakfast burritos to a whole new level… especially for airport food! The country burrito packs eggs, potatoes, sausage and brisket inside and is absolutely delicious! Don’t forget to ask for some BBQ sauce on the side. This place put the Qdoba next door to shame.

I ordered the brisket platter. What a disappointment. This place is no where close to the original salt lick. It doesn’t event compare to any mediocre Texas bbq place. The brisket is chewy and tastes like it is broiled instead of smoked. The portions are small for $ 16. See photo. Don’t waste your time and money here.

Not bad for airport food. I don’t suppose they smoke the meat at the airport location, so there’s no way it can compare to something smoked on premise, but the brisket is tender with a nice bark. On the other hand, I’d give the sides a failing grade. The fries is okay, but the coleslaw tastes like plain cabbage shreds with no dressing and the potato in the potato salad is on the raw side. The platter comes with three sides, which I guess helps make your meal healthier, but meat lovers will probably wish for a platter where the sides don’t quite cover up the meat. This place also offer some Texan beer for those who want to try local beers. DFW has a few BBQ joints and I’d say this place is better than the others, and given the easy of traveling among terminals with the trains, it’s worth coming to this terminal just for it, if you’re craving for BBQ.

Flying can sometimes be a nightmare. Most airports I visit don’t have very amazing food options. Even in the Dallas/Fort Worth airport United terminal is dismal. Salt lick, on the other hand is a very happening place. They have nice big tables and you can connect to wifi while having very respectable bbq. There is also a wine bar, McDonald’s and a candy shop in the near vicinity. We decided on salt lick because it was our last chance to get Texas bbq for another couple months. My dad and I shared a brisket sandwich. You can choose to get the brisket sliced(which looks a lot more appetizing) or chopped(which looks easier to eat). The bread the sandwiches come on is also nice and soft. I cannot say enough about the coleslaw. I am a bit of a coleslaw connoisseur and salt lick’s was one of the best I’ve had. Who knew I’d find great coleslaw in an airport, am I right? Yes, prices are a little high, but that’s what you get when you fly economy and have to buy food in an airport. Another thing, the guy calling out orders when they are ready did not speak English very well. One poor customer was looking for Splenda and the worker dismissed him over and over because he couldn’t understand… It was a little rude and entertaining to watch.

For airport food this place is pretty good. I really would like to try their stand alone restaurant in Austin. The bread they use for sandwiches is just short of really awesome. I would buy this bread at the store if able. The sliced brisket was good. Not great but good. The beans are canned ranch style beans(which I like.) If your traveling and are in Terminal A, try this place out you could do a lot worse!

If I had never been to the Salt Lick in Driftwood I might have been able to give them a three, but after getting super excited upon seeing them as a dining option and having all the great memories come up I was really disappointed. The Good: + a sampler platter gives you three meats and three sides, so you can basically try everything + the turkey was probably the best of the three meats I tried(also: pulled pork, sliced brisket) + the fries were surprisingly good(super crispy) and the beans have chunks of BBQ in it The Disappointing: — the brisket was extremely fatty and had no crust — the potato salad was your standard mustard potato salad out of a container — the original Salt Lick potato salad is one of the most unique dishes I’ve ever had and I could eat it by the bucketful given the chance — service could be improved: I had to ask the cashier to speak up literally five times because I couldn’t hear him and he continued to speak in a near whisper; I asked for it to go and it came on a plate — when I let the woman know she just stared at me so I had to ask for a box and a cover for the beans The meal wasn’t terrible by any means, but I can’t imagine this outpost has much, if anything, to do with the original location aside from the name. Skip the airport location and treat yourself to the real thing.

Overall 4 stars Food 4 stars Service 4 stars atmosphere/décor: 4 stars Value: 2.5 stars Would i go again? yes Salt lick is apparently a famous TX bbq joint. So when I saw a location in DFW airport, I had to go. my recent travels had me laying over in DFW to and from my destination, and I ate here both times. Food the breads and meats were excellent. Sides, were just ok. Fries were decent. Cole slaw not so much. Beans ok. Didn’t try potato salad. But the winners were clearly their sauces… Service: Fast food style set up. adequate. Staff was friendly. Value: It’s located inside an airport. I’m assuming that its pricyness was because of that. Atmosphere/décor It’s in an airport. There is seating, it is well laid out, giving adequate space for people to navigate with their roll-aboards. Would I go again? yes.

Have heard about & seen this place as being a top BBQ joint in the nation. So when I saw it here at the airport, I knew I’d have to try it during my 6hr layover back home. I ordered the brisket platter, which came w/3 sides. Of the 4 sides to choose from, I decided to go with the beans, ‘tater(potato) salad, & fries since I’m not a slaw fan. Disappointed they didn’t have a mac & cheese option but very happy they sold Pepsi.(I blame the hubs on making me a Pepsi snob) Was tempted to order the sampler platter which was your choice of 3 meats, but I was having a hankering for brisket & wanted to make sure I wasn’t shorted on it. Brisket was good, but I’ve certainly had better. The smoke ring was there, but didn’t seem… deep/dark, if that makes sense. Meat is offered w/regular or spicy sauce, & since I like spicy, I went for it. Sauce had a little kick but by no means was spicy or hot, & had a slight honey-mustard type flavor to it. Not bad, but not really BBQ sauce like I was looking for and used to. Tater salad was good but the beans tasted like Hormel or some canned variety I get at home. Nothing special. Fries were actually the tastiest side, which is disappointing. But they had a nice potato flavor, reminiscent of a Burger King fry & seasoned nicely w/abut of pepper & the right amount of salt, almost like a Mickey D fry. Good variety of beverages, including Red Sauce, no Red… something I never heard of, but it was basically a VERY sweet fruit punch. They also had Lipton sweet tea & unsweetened. All in all, I have to say I was a bit disappointed… maybe cuz I expected to be blown away & just wasn’t w/the brisket. Like I said, it was good, but I’ve had better. Maybe I should’ve went w/the sampler & tried the pork ribs & turkey, or smoked sausage.

Was I just hungry or is this really a decent joint that I found in the Dallas airport? I don’t know, but it was also helpful that the counter service was so friendly as well. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich and the meat was tender and savory with a great spicy barbecue sauce. The fries were a little dry but fresh cut so I liked them too. They offer refillable drinks here which is nice in the airport.
