We have been visiting many breakfast locations in the area for the fun of it. Some are fancier or pricier than others. Every time we leave a new place we say, «I wish I would have eaten at Glen Oak Café instead.» The food is consistently very good, the atmosphere is welcoming, it is well lit, clean, and an overall fun place to eat. We appreciate that they have gluten free options and are willing to work with specialty orders when needed. Mid-mornings on Saturday are very busy, but you will still get a warm reception and an attempt to make you feel comfortable.

It was okay. A bit chilly inside. We ordered the Cobb salads and my wife ordered a patty melt. I took quite awhile for our food to be brought out to the table. Our waitress was good though. Nothing stands out here! The owner didn’t even say hello or ask how the food was. My wife mentioned it was my Birthday they didn’t even do anything special or for that matter wish me a Happy Birthday.

This is a family friendly diner with delicious food. The staff is lightning quick. The food is amazing. I recommend the ham it up omelet. Since there is new ownership, the place is very nicely redecorated. A must visit if you are in the area.

We love Glen Oaks. I’ve only ever had breakfast there, but it keeps us going back — and hey — it’s the most important meal of the day right? No matter what time of day! My go to is the meat lovers skillet. I haven’t eaten in in a while — but when we did the skillet actually comes in a piping hot skillet, go figure! But keeps it nice and toasty. There was a period of time when we were regulars, and the wait staff was always courteous and some even remembered the typical orders. We’ve now transitioned more to carrying out. No reflection on the restaurant, just on a different route now, and the only thing better than Sunday brunch out, is the same delicious food being eaten on the couch in pajamas. One of the last times I was in to pick up the food(which is always ready very quickly) I happened to grab a menu to take with me. Apparently it had been a while since I had actually looked at one because it looked like they had quite a few new options. Prices have gone up some, which of course I may grumble to my husband about, but they are still reasonable and I understand are a part of business. Really one skillet usually gets me at least two normal breakfasts, or three smaller ones, so I can’t complain too much. We will continue to go back!

This is a cute little family oriented diner. What I love the most about this place is the staff. Even when I don’t get good service I get good service. They open super early and are as good of a brunch as you’re going to find this far in the burbs. They used to have booze but that changed awhile ago. They have a pretty good menu. I’ve never had any non breakfast foods but why go to a cute charming diner like this and not order the delicious cinnamon swirl french toast?! And the bacon. Don’t even get me started on the bacon. It’s like magical thick cut yummy bacon! If you’re more into the savory they have some great skillets and omelets. They have this Mexican omelet with chorizo and jalapeños. Yummo! This place is adorable, great for the kids, and yummy. If you’re looking for the all American diner you found it.

Ok food. The service could have been faster. Seemed the waitress had too many tables to handle by herself. It wasn’t bad just seemed really busy and maybe they were not on top of there game that day.

A much better iteration of the family restaurant it replaced. We stopped here for breakfast after a doctor’s appointment, and I got myself a skillet. I don’t remember too much about the skillet; it was pretty good, the potatoes needed a little salt, but there’s good coffee to be had. Portion size was reasonable. The interior of the restaurant is much nicer than it once was. Bright, open, airy; more or less the complete opposite of the restaurant it replaced. The servers were helpful; perhaps a bit rushed, but I’m not going to nitpick here. I wouldn’t mind eating here again.

Nothing out of the ordinary here. The wait was long and there was nothing special about our food. Our waitress was nice and attentive. The only thing that really stood out to me was the treasure chest of toys, little plastic toys, for the kids. My girls walked out with little spiky balls. I thought that and the dum dums are a good idea. There are better breakfast places, in my opinion, and I won’t be back.

My son and I frequently find ourselves here for late breakfast/lunch…the owner is always there to greet us, and we always have the same very sweet blond waitress with glasses! Had the«perfect lunch» last time a cup of my fav split pea soup, half an egg salad sandwich and it also came with a large serving of spinach salad which I took home and had for supper and was very good! Lunch and dinner in one. My son usually enjoys the skillets and wraps very much! Glad to have such a nice place in walking distance, sorry it’s not open for dinner :(…

My husband and I were actually going to the Italian place next door but it was closed, so we headed to this diner instead. Boy are we happy we did. You MUSTMUSTMUST try the red velvet french toast. The sweet cream filling is to die for. I just wish it came with one more slice. My husband was impressed by the coffee — no cheap folger’s here. He got the chili burger which came with fries and soup. The diner is spacious, clean, and bright and our waitress was great! We are definitely going back.

DEFINITELY worth a try! Spend your money here and support a local eatery! Even though my Monterey Bacon Omelette was missing the fresh pico de gallo and sour cream(which I didn’t even realize until I talked about my meal with someone later in the day!), my visit to Glen Oak Café for Sunday lunch was quite positive. Our server was attentive and our orders came quickly even though the place was fairly busy. The menu spoke to their obvious bent towards breakfast, and the portion I received(omelette, hash browns and two pancakes) was enough for me to request a take-home box! Lots of avocado and bacon in my omelette but sad that I missed out on the toppings the kitchen left off. I had not eaten here in several years(the last time was«forgettable») but having heard about the new owner and rev’d up menu and décor, we tried it today with friends and we were all pleasantly surprised! Glen Oak will definitely be on our radar now, as we much prefer to patronize local eateries instead of chains.

Family place, good food, reasonable prices. The staff rocks! Clean and friendly place. The waffles is terrific and like no other. My personal favorite is the international omelette grilled not fluffy side of bacon covered in Louisiana hot sauce! Lunch favorite is the patty melt. Chicken and rice soup is a favorite as well. Can’t say enough about the people and this place. Try it you will soon be hooked.

the old glen oak was a spot to avoid like the plague. dark, dirty, and the food was meh at best. based on the 5 star Unilocal review, i gave it try this morning, and was pleasantly surprised. it’s light and bright and CLEAN. i ordered the baja breakfast tacos, and they were very good. the service was friendly and prompt. i wish they’d renamed it the glen oak diner, instead of café. it just sounds cozier. and i wish they had biscuits.

LOVETHISPLACE. Really… this place has done a total 180. There is a new owner who, first off, has remodeled the entire place(totally updated and so clean). Next, the food is much better than with the previous owner. So the food… The fluffy omelet I had was so good and cooked perfectly. Another time, I had a salad(granny salad). It was delicious– huge portion too. Oh and I shouldn’t forget their catepillar pancakes– both my kids love the food and ask to go there every time we eat out. My husband had the chicken wrap and asked me to pick him up another(to go) the following day! The service… The owner greets everyone at the door, genuinely cares about the feedback and the community. He really makes sure people are enjoying their visit to Glen Oak. Even my 4 year old commented on how he was really nice(probably because he let them pick some toys from the treasure chest!). My waitress was so nice as well– overall, the service was great. I don’t write too many reviews on Unilocal, but I had to write one about this place– loved my experience and Im sure you will too.

New ownership. Again. New does not mean better. The place is decent. My breakfast was a bit undercooked and waitress slow to bring toast and refill coffee. Average would be the consensus. Excellent would be better for Glen Ellyn. Why chase me to The Red Apple?
