Honey Café

Have been to Honey a few times now.
Stopped for lunch with my wife and daughter and we all enjoyed the hood and service.
The chicken pot pie is awesome, but you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu.

I came here for lunch and it was very pleasant. I got their «not your ordinary» grilled cheese sandwich and it was a perfect lunch dish! Grilled cheese, stuffed with greens and tomatoes, on crispy bread slices. I got it with sweet potato fries.

Wow. THE POT PIE WITH AMISH SLOW COOKED CHICKEN IS AMAZING. BIIIG FLAKY AND FULL OF FLAVOR. There is sage or some kind of delicious accent flavor. expensive but I will def return for the quality. Cant wait to try so many things on the menu. Smoothies, breakfast, and more

Finally made it to Honey café today after hearing great things about them. The location is great in downtown Glen Ellyn but parking is a bit tricky. The ambiance is sort of shabby chic but a bit too loud. They weren’t that crowded but our table of four had a hard time hearing each other speak.
The service was polite and attentive and all of the dishes we tried were delish. Oh and the coffee is excellent. I had a gingerbread latte and died.
It’s so nice to see a menu that offers creative choices instead of standard breakfast fare.
I’ll be back for lunch soon!

We haven’t been to honey café in a long time (8 months maybe, which is a long time for us) When we arrived and were waiting for our table, we wondered «why oh why has it been so long?» We remembered their pretty tasty food and pleasant atmosphere and could not figure why we’d stayed away. Then I got my coffee.
I am a coffee lover, and I’d say I’m not hard to please. The problem is that Honey Café has kind of a coffee shop vibe, in my opinion. So I expect very pleasing coffee. The coffee they serve (did I see that it’s metropolis?) is lacking. If I’d been served it at the diner up the street, or any number of other local breakfast spots, I probably would have finished it without noticing. But if you tout coffee (or even seem to tout coffee), then it should be something more than just drinkable. I am a black coffee loyalist, and I even found myself seeing if cream would help the situation. Nope.
Our food was a-​okay (not memorable either way), and I know a review of coffee is very subjective, so I will give the experience three stars. One note, my baby loves playing with spoons and dropping them on the floor, and I appreciate that our server delivered without batting an eye when I asked her to bring us «a whole bunch» of spoons.

Totally unexpected to find a trendy organic brunch place in the burbs but I love the truffle mac & cheese and their menu which uses fresh ingredients. I had the yummy BLT benedict which was really good.

So, if only it was so expensive I would come here more.
But regardless, this place rocks. The first time I came here, I wasn’t impressed that much but I decided to give it another try. The second and third time I went was so delicious! In particular, the third time I went was the best. It was before the breakfast rush so it wasn’t so loud in there and I could have a clear conversation with my boyfriend.
On my third visit, I got the open faced omelet. We also got a fruit salad and coffee. The omelet was to die for, I ordered it with egg whites, and and English muffin. I want to go eat that omelet right now!
The waitress was very friendly as well and have us great customer service. I’m very picky about my waitresses and waiters but this girl was awesome! I forget her name but oh well.
I hope to be returning to honey very soon!

My boyfriend and I had been dying to try Honey for the last few months, since we moved into the area, but everytime we would drive by the café, it seemed as though it was closed. We could never figure out when it was open, until the other day it seemed like the odds were on our side, because they were open. FYI: they are open until 3pm everyday.
The server was extremely knowledgeable about the food on the menu, and they offer tons of vegetarian and vegan options. The gluten free bread is even better than actual bread. They have mimosas as well. There was a wait for a table, so my boyfriend and I decided to eat at the bar next to the coffee shop and could see the lovely streets of Glen Ellyn, it was great brunch date.
I would not recommend this place to anyone who is in a hurry (wants an hour lunch), the service was laid back and moved at a leisure pace (it was not bad, but relaxed), although everyone needs to enjoy life sometime!
We will be back for lunch!

Honey Café has been on my list for a long time due to a suggestion of a friend of mine to try their cupcakes. Well, I went today not just for cupcakes, but for lunch in general and I am so glad I picked Honey Café. I ordered black iced tea, the veggie burger with a side salad and a few cupcakes. My friend ordered the truffle grilled cheese with their honey fries, which are made fresh daily. The veggie burger was amazing! I usually prefer black bean burgers, but this one blew all other veggie burgers out of the water! So good, I would definitely order it again. Through there are many other things that look fantastic, so I probably wouldn’t, just for the fact of trying everything else.
We tasted 2 cupcakes for dessert; carrot cake and snicker doodle. The carrot cake was vegan and it was very moist and delicious. The snicker doodle was less moist than the carrot cake, yet I liked the taste better.
For whatever reason, they mixed up our order and were preparing slow-​roasted chicken. However, after the error, and a long amount of time, they discovered it. They apologized and comped my veggie burger and both the cupcakes and were very professional about it. The service was fantastic. It’s definitely a place I would recommend and to which I would return.

In love! One thing that I thought I would miss the most about moving out of the city and into the burbs was great brunch spots. I was wrong — Honey Café is amazing! We came here for brunch after a 5k run in the area. The ambiance reminded us of a trendy brunch spot somewhere on the Northside of the city. The menu sure makes it hard to choose what you want to eat though — I wanted one of everything! I got one of the specials — a delicious brioche egg sandwich with rosemary gravy. My husband got a southwestern style breakfast burrito. Both were extremely good. Our friends had the pesto eggs and a mushroom and steak omelet — they loved both as well.
We will definitely be returning on weekends to come!

I like this place. They have several gluten free options, but I was soooo sad that the sweet potato fries weren’t gluten free! But my sandwich TOTALLY made up for it. Oh my lanta. I got the Honey Mustard and Brie Chicken Sandwich with their GF bread. SO. GOOD. I can’t even put it into words. Maybe I was extra hungry, but I think that was the best sandwich I’ve ever had.
Anyways, the servers are kind and the décor is cool. Lots of art and lots of windows. But most of all, I LOVE THE FOOD.

Horrible experience. Spring Break, kids off of school — clearly they were not prepared. The waitress couldn’t get the orders right, forgot my daughter’s apple juice, the food came one person at a time, it bits, she forgot my husband’s order, said she wouldn’t charge, then 1 minute later there it was.
I ordered a hot tea — was delicious, but it took a half hour to get it because they had to ‘seep’ it. That’s fine, but at least let the customer know that it is going to be a while.
Couldn’t get a to-​go box for the life of us.
I ordered a walnut salad, $ 11.00 — the portion was about the size of what I would consider a side salad.
I asked for fruit instead of fries with my son’s PB&J — charged me for both.
Food is good — but extremely high priced for the portions.
The bill was all wrong — and the waitress asked US to check it to make sure it was right!!! Seriously!!!
WILL NOT RETURN, and DO NOT RECOMMEND with children, or even without for that matter.
I even think 1 star is too high of a rating.

I admit that for some reason I’ve been afraid to try Honey– I had the impression that it was a fancy café for vegan and gluten-​free eaters and I thought I wouldn’t find anything I liked. I admit now that I was WRONG!
We met some new friends here (their choice) today after church and were greeted warmly by several people working. It’s a larger space than I expected, yet cute. The booth was comfortable. The menu is awesome– very creative and so much sounded good it was hard to choose. My husband got a dark chocolate praline latte to start, and thought it was great. Our friend got the coffee (I love that particular brand– can’t remember what it’s called but I’ve had it before– awesome) and the server frequently brought refills and on our way out offered him a to-​go cup (that always makes me happy).
I decided to try the pan-​seared steel oats oatmeal but added a side of a scrambled egg and some bacon. It raised the price quite a bit but was worth it– both were delicious– I love when bacon is crisp. The oatmeal was very unique– it was in slices– served with an apple cider reduction sauce drizzled on it and dried fruit (that was very, very sweet). It was a huge portion so I took some home. I really loved it and would definitely get it again. It was presented beautifully too.
My husband tried the Eggs on A Motorcycle (he can’t resist clever titles like that!) and thought it was good but he’d try something else in the future. Our friend got the chicken pot pie– it looked amazing! It was a huge bowl with a big puff pastry on top (no crust on the bottom) — he enjoyed it and ate every bite. Our other friend had the special baked french toast that had sausage, egg and cheese baked inside. She said it was good too.
One thing I need to say– be ready for a very leisurely meal. It was great for us because we were catching up with our friends and had a lot to talk about, but it took a long time to order and then much longer to get our meal. Our server was very polite.
Overall, I’m so glad we tried Honey Café. I’d definitely go again to have a long meal with opportunity for good conversation. And very good food!

My girl friends & I decided to meet up at Honey Café for a little dinner & book discussion since they’ve got a bunch of vegetarian & gluten free items on their menu. The place itself is super cute, very modern American looking, save for the vintage tin ceilings (and I do love me a vintage tin ceiling). I was early and the first one to arrive and was immediately greeted by one of their friendly servers who asked me if I’d like to be seated or wait for the rest of my party. She also offered to get something started for me to drink while I waited, which I ultimately declined but really appreciated. When my comrades finally arrived (thank you car accident on Roosevelt Rd…), we were seated in the bakery area.
The dinner menu looked delicious (I know this because I studied it on the restaurant’s website during the day in order to pick out the most delicious looking thing on the menu) as did the specials menu. Ultimately I opted for a market plate (3 side items of my choice) because I’m terrible at nailing down just one thing to eat. The food was served quickly, or maybe we just didn’t notice the time go by, since we were busy chatting away.
I got the goat cheese mushroom strudels (filo dough housing a filling of chevre & mushrooms), house salad (basically mixed greens with a little bit of sliced fennel & an olive oil drizzle… it may have had another dressing on it because I got one bite of something mustardy, but that was it), and a bowl of broccoli cheese soup. Everything on my market platter was sort of boring in the taste department. Most of the salad greens were wilty, which was pretty unappetizing to me, and so I had to pick out the few good pieces. The broccoli cheddar soup was way more brothy than I was expecting, and it lacked much taste & richness. The goat cheese mushroom strudels were quite tasty, but I loves me some goat cheese, so it was sort of a shoe-​in. The dish was only $ 12, and I left full and with doggie bag in hand, so I can’t really complain too much with regards to quantity to price.
My friends each got a large house salad & one of the two opted for some sweet potato fries, which looked quite tasty. I didn’t notice any major wiltiness in their salads, but then again, I wasn’t looking too closely.
This place is charming, so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and suggest that maybe I just ordered the wrong things on the menu. I’d even be willing to give Honey Café another shot because I really love supporting local businesses & I wouldn’t mind spending more time exploring the other cute stores that downtown Glen Ellyn has to offer. But as for a first impression, Honey Café was a «meh.»

Based on a few visits over the years: above average brunch option for the area (3.5), very good coffee from Chicago roaster Metropolis (4), delicious pastries (4). However, relatively expensive for what you get (2). I’ll stop by on occasion if I happen to be nearby (especially for carry out coffee and pastries), but Honey Café doesn’t make the cut for my regular brunch circuit b/​c at the price point for what they offer, I can either venture into the city for a more gourmet experience or otherwise have an equally tasty brunch nearby while saving myself some dough. Still worth visiting, especially when the maple-​y pumpkin latte is on the menu.

Solid brunch.
The boyfriend and I were around the area since he was getting his car fixed at a shop in Addison. This place was super close so we decided to stop by and grab a bite to eat.
I had the pumpkin pancake special and he had the Florentine Benedict. You get three thick pancakes with the order. His Benedict looked small, but was filing and came with a side of potatoes.
They serve Metropolis coffee, which is a huge plus and you can get a to-​go order after your meal if you still need a pick me up.
Our waitress was pretty friendly, but it took a while to get out food, but I think it was because a party of about 10 high school girls placed their order before us. Another downside was that the table was kind of sticky. Oh, and it’s a bit pricey. I paid over $ 40 with tip for two entrees, two coffees and a side of applewood smoked bacon.
But, if I’d go there again if I am in the area.

Came here for brunch one day and it was pretty tasty. Breakfast burritos are my go-​to and Honey Café did not disappoint! Very large burrito, which was a huge plus. I was starving! Careful cause the inside of the burrito is very hot (temperature wise). My gf got the omelet and that was good as well.
Newer place with a nice environment. I would come back again if I were in town. Great service too.

Wow! I’m not sure where to start with the massive disappointment that this place turned out to be. I was really excited to try Honey after hearing so many positive things about the restaurant. I’d think I was at the wrong place if it wasn’t for extensive «Honey Café» branding on mugs and menus.
We arrived around noon to a well lit restaurant that was fairly empty. Service was mediocre from the start, but only seemed to get worse as more people started filtering in. Our waitress had a strange attitude that I’d almost describe as combative, and whether it was intention or not, the rude look on her face said it all.
I got a lukewarm omelet which seemed decidedly average, served with some uninspiring fried potato quarters and two pieces of dry toast. Another member of the wait staff dropped off our food, and asked if we needed anything. I mentioned we’d love a coffee refill, as our cups had been bone dry for a good ten minutes, and something to slather atop my toast. Despite my best efforts to make eye contact with anyone and do the international «Hey we need something» gaze and head nod, no one even came back to our table until we were done with our food.
From there, getting coffee seemed silly, but, whatever.
I really hate to leave a negative review for this place, especially after so many recommendations, but I really expected to leave satisfied and anxious to come back. Instead, I felt like I was a contestant on the new season of MTV’s Boiling Points– Except, no one ever came to give us our prize for being so patient.
My expectations for any breakfast place are pretty low. Get me some decent eggs, some form of potato to eat ‘em with, and a few slices of buttered toast. From there, keep my coffee mug full and I’ll be happy as a clam. It’s sort of crazy that things can go so wrong.

So since this is an update, I suppose you’re wondering if dinner was better than breakfast. It was far superior! It may be one of my newest fave dinner spot.
Their lunch/​dinner menu is significantly larger than breakfast, which I can’t complain about since I don’t get out as often for b-​fast. Wanting to order several items I settled on a fresh greens salad and the seared polenta with a fresh tomato sauce, mushrooms and pine nuts. A word to the wise… it can feed two people easily! The portions were huge! I could barely eat half, but it heated well for lunch the next day. It def was delicious. Crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. It wasn’t over seasoned and the fresh, chunky tomato sauce was beyond delish. The bf ordered the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and green beans, as well as a side of mac n’cheese. Again… massive portions. The meatloaf had killer flavor but was slightly dry. The mac n’ cheese seemed to be white cheddar based which isn’t my fave, but the bf thoroughly enjoyed it.
Service was a little slow unfortunately. Slow to bring the apps, slow to bring the entrees, and slow to bring the check. Luckily, we weren’t in a mad rush. However, our server was very friendly and apologetic.
Overall — This little honey, and her honey, are some big fans of Honey Café.

Honey Café is an ok breakfast place. They have a long rectangular space, and it’s airy, sunny, and comfortable. It can get loud when crowded also. If you come for Sunday brunch anyway, do expect it to be leisurely, as the servings came out on slower side, and we noticed folks tend to hang out for a while. The coffee is good and on the stronger side (bottomless at $ 2.50). The pancakes we had were on overdone and dry side though. I had the pancake sandwich, with scrambled eggs and bacon sandwiched in-​between ($ 10.95, and it was a big breakfast), and wife had their standard buttermilk pancakes ($ 6.95). Overall, it’s an ok place to try, but it doesn’t make our list of top brunch places.
