AAMCO Transmissions & Total Car Care

I had some slipping in my transmission so I took it to Aamco. The fluid was dirty etc. And the diagnosis made sense considering the transmission had been serviced not to long ago.
So during the time of getting my transmission rebuilt it took a bit longer than the 3 days I was initially told due to availability of parts but that wasnt a big deal. I brought the car in on the 9^th of Dec which should have been ample time but my concern grew when they almost didn’t get me the car before XMas week. Being they were gonna be off the whole week I made a fuss about that because I would have to rent the car longer and thus spend more money and my warranty may not cover the extended time. So they got me my car by Dec 18^th and by Sunday Dec 20^th I heard something making noise. When I got out and looked under I found the cover wasn’t connected properly and because they were closed Sunday I sent an email and no one responded even after a few days So I took it to a local shop who fixed for 20 dollars. Not a lot of money but there is the convenience and piece of mind factor.
So I started noticing my car shifting heavy from 2 to 3^rd so I brought it in. They said they needed to flash the computers which they charged a fee for doing it plus the charge for paying the personal from the shop that handles the electrical. I was disappointed because that should have been apart of the initial work which was covered under warranty but instead that came out of my pocket which wasn’t the experience I wanted.
I took the car back a few times because it didn’t feel right after the transmission was rebuilt and they did work with me I will give them that. I think one of the last disappointments was when they ordered a 2.5 L tune up kit but my car was a 3.0L. I felt like that lack of detail could have applied to the experience I had with having my transmission rebuilt and save me some inconvenience had the detail been paid attention to.
The people here were nice from this Mechanic to the person who runs the office but there are quite a few things they could do better. Sometimes the answers they gave me didn’t make since especially being I have mechanics in my family. For example battery connector corrosion can make it feel like transmission problems? I’ve cars with worse battery corrosion and never felt what I was feeling. Also after the transmission rebuild i was told that the hard shift I was feeling from second to 3^rd feels like the motor mounts are bad and they need to be replaced. I’ve always kept service up on my car at Ford and was never told that and before the transmission was rebuilt I never felt that feeling of a hard shift either. But they did try to work with me again I will say that. But they need to figure out a way to do better. Maybe get a bit more organized in the front office and the mechanic garage as well. When you give a time stick to it or let the customer know in advance you can’t meet it so they can make arrangements. I was told one time to bring my car in Sat and when i got there early there was a note on the door saying they were closed. There were times that parts needed for work weren’t ordered when they said they would order it so when I would come back the next day to bring my car in they didn’t have the parts to do the work. They need more resources in my opinion. You do get a good rental rate with Hertz tho and they are kind but end users want an overall pleasant experience and not an inconvenience

Terrible terrible experience… no other words to describe it… One oil leak, then transmission then power steering issues in one week is a JOKE, Had no problems before!?? «Yeh it’s a new issue or made up?!» JUST TERRIBLE, DON’T RECOMMEND THIS SHOP! & THEY CHARGE SOOO FK#N MUCHHHH! (NO STARS=0).

aamco made me feel cheated and guilty. i take my car in to get it looked at. i went to go get the vehicle and they locked the keys in the car. the mechanics made me feel bad because i didn’t carry a spare on me. i asked the mechanics how it happened and he said «the car shut itself». i don’t know any car that does that immediately but a car takes commands; you press the gas it goes, turn on the lights and it shines, if you press the lock button then the car will lock up. the mechanic lied to my face instead of accepting a common mistake that everyone makes at some point. when i asked if i could get into my vehicle at some point the mechanics said they didn’t have the tool to get into my car to unlock it. he went on to say that i should call my insurance to come to my rescue since i wasn’t holding a spare. he pretty much said make the call and wait a couple hours for them to come let you in because he was too lazy to fix a problem he caused.
i left a voice mail that night advising the aamco owner to please not perform any labor on my car at 6am with instructions to call me as soon as he hears the message. not only did he not call me he let the labor go on. his excuse was «i came into work late at 930 and they already performed the labor». i didn’t know mechanics show up at 7am when the shop opens at 10am. i paid the 2 hours of labor because i was fed up with the excuses and amount off bullshit i had to deal with. i’ve never come across someone or groups of people who run a business and give so many dumb excuses about mistakes and never own up to them. it’s hilarious. do not bring your vehicle here or you will experience the same displeasure i went through.

Took my car in to Acura to get transmission looked at and get a quote. They quoted over $ 6k! Took it here and they said the same things were wrong with it that Acura informed me about, but quoted $ 1500 for the work. It took 3 days to finished, but car runs great! Service was friendly and always called back to follow up when they said they would. I don’t have much experience with repair places, but they treated me well when I was there and were professional. Place could be a little less smelly. ;)

I brought my Volvo in for a transmission problem where it wouldn’t even engage at all. So I so we spent $ 3500 put in a new one. Of course when we got there ran, oh cool! But about a week or so after the one-​year warranty expired and I felt to slip some. not wanting to risk Anything I had it towed in. I think it was about maybe four hours got a call from Steve. The solution to the problem would cost another $ 3500. I meant the laws were very strict even knows just over the warranty period it would be another $ 3500. This car is basically used to pick the kids up and bring them back and forth to school I need a nearly going to 12,000 miles just a little bit over the year. He said it was very rare that something like this would happen where just after a year it would go bad and need such repairs and it was not from them but it was from the person they got it from. That it was the defective part not anything on their end. Well I’m certainly going to take a look into that because I don’t believe it I had nothing to do with do some work that last just a little bit over the warranty so they have to come back and spend another $ 3500. They must love those warranty periods!

If I could give negative stars I would. I am a huge Unilocaler when it comes to looking for places so I hope this stops some of you from going here. So 2 years ago my husbands Transmission went out so we decided to take it to AAMCO. It is a Chevrolet Duramax diesel, and we did a lot of towing with it. So my husband decided to take it in and have a «built «transmission put in so we wouldn’t have to worry about it again. The guy who helped us was very nice and assured us we won’t have to worry about our tranny again. Well their warranties are conveniently only a year long. Figures about a year and a half after having the new tranny it totally went out on my husband on his way to work. We were so infuriated to find out that the guy who helped us didn’t put in the «built» parts he said he was going to do for my husbands truck. We were so upset but looked at our paperwork and sadly found out that the paperwork had none of the aftermarket heavy duty stuff was put in it like my husband asked. So we decided to just bite the bullet and take it somewhere else to have it fixed. We bought a 3000 dollar built ppe transmission kit and had our local mechanic install it. While inside the tranny he found that they didn’t put the clutch plates in correctly and same with the shift kit. The clutch plates were black and purple and where warped. It was crazy to see. And you would think a shop who SPECIALIZES in transmissions would know how to put clutch plates in considering thats what makes the truck move!!! Anyways. we are in the process of taking care of it with aamco, but have not contacted them yet. I would highly disregard taking your transmission here. As they have lost me and all my families business for charging us 5000 dollars to have a tranny go out in a year and a half. I hope this review helps and maybe will make AAMCO realize what they did and hope they don’t do it to anyone else!

This is my second time going there. ZACH is always friendly and explains everything very well. He was very understandable and listened to what I thought was wrong with my car. He squeezed me in this time around for my brakes didn’t give me the run around. I was in and out very quickly. He quoted me a price and it didn’t change when I got there. This place should be out of business. I got my VW bugs transmission changed about a month ago for a steep price. Everything seemed fine after I picked up my car.
A few weeks After Aamco, I had taken my car to another mechanic to get alignment done on the car, the mechanic noticed one engine mount broken. So I took the car back to Aamco. Now they say all three are broken.
How the hell did they not notice the mounts were broken when they put the new transmission in. I smell bull shit.
After I had called the customer service manager out on the bs. (Zach) offered to put in the new mounts for free if we buy the parts on our own. Definitely sounds like there’s some guilt there.
Don’t go here. Bottom line. They are crooks.

I would NEVER, EVER recommend this Aamco to anyone. I’ve started to write a review several times but there is just too much to say and I don’t even know where to start. After spending almost two weeks going back and forth with this company to simply get my car finished and returned, I honestly don’t want to waste another second of frustration on them. Let’s just say I had to call the main Aamco customer service line and talk to two upper management people before we were able to get our bill into an acceptable range and my car finally finished in twice the amount of time I was told with their original bill coming to almost 3x the original estimate I was given. During the process the manager at least tried to be helpful although he was quite «salesmany.» When I did have the opportunity to speak to the owner he was very condescending and his only response was to tell me that I obviously was unhappy and there was nothing he could say to change it and passed me back to the manager. They did not follow state laws when it came to written estimates and quotes. Could not have been more frustrated or disappointed. Would not give a single star if I could post without. Btw this post comes only after 3 emails from AAMCO asking me to post a review.

Go somewhere else! Not recommended!
I took my Suburban to this shop this morning around 7:45am and the door was open. I came in and there was this employee sitting in the main office … I told him that I am here to drop off the key for transmission fluid change … He gave me an ugly look and said «we aren’t open» … I told him that the door was open. He was very rude to me. He said they cannot do service until Thursday and not recommended to do the flush because it will damage the transmission. I told him that I am not looking for a complete flush, just a transmission fluid change and new gasket. He quoted me $ 189 for this and I told him no. Went to another well-​reputation shop for much cheaper than Maaco.
If I was his boss, I will write him up and demote him.

Just wanted to write this review because now I know for a fact that this company COMPLETELY misdiagnosed my car, almost costing me $ 1500 for a repair for something that was never broken.
I have a Camaro that was shifting funny after I had it sitting for a while. I had seen commercials about this place giving a free look over of the transmission and other parts of the car so I limped the Camaro over to the shop.
I get a call the next day saying that while trying to look at the transmission, the car had been overheating. He asked if I was aware of the overheating, but since I have not been driving the car much, I didn’t really notice any overheating. He said its probably the head gasket. Really? There are numerous other reasons for a overheating car. I told him to look into it and call me back.
He calls me back and confirms it is the head gasket, and they could fix it for around $ 1500, and asked if I wanted to do that. I said no, I will pick up my car.
Ended up being low on coolant with a cracking radiator hose — a super cheap fix. They didn’t even check the most common reasons for overheating. My car has been running cool for months following this simple fix, and I took the car elsewhere to fix the transmission.
This place is untrustworthy. Avoid at all costs.

My Nissan 200SX SE-​R broke down on Saturday and I was afraid it would be a price-​y transmission replacement.
After I had it towed to my house I called Michael and his team at Aamco Fremont. I was glad to hear that it was just the clutch that needed to be replaced. They also informed me that my front engine mount was broken and my outer tie rod ends needed to be replaced. Luckily, having them fix everything up there would save me a lot of money.
On Monday morning my car got free towing from my house to Aamco; they installed a NEW clutch; fixed the mount and installed new tie rod ends. ALL IN TWO DAYS.
My parents had also brought their Honda in two years ago and Michael and his team fixed it up just as fast and efficiently.
Although in the past two years they had been under different managment which obviously explained all the low ratings…
But all i gotta say is Michael is back and I had smooth and efficient service.
5 stars hands down.

Went in today because my engine light came on, turns out only the gas cap was loose! My girlfriend was relieved it was not anything major. I had excellent customer service (ask for Mike). And a huge plus, is that he is a Giants and 9ers fan… lol. I know down the road if I have any other problems with the transmission in my girlfiend’s or my car that I can take it to AAMCO on Thornton.

I recently took my 2003 Toyota Highlander here. I didn’t have the time to trouble shoot it myself and needed it to be fix. Now taking your car to someone that you can trust is very important to me.
I was delighted to find out that Michael Vossler was back as shop manager. He had departed some time ago to Aamco in Oakland. I have followed Mike from shop to shop. He and his crews have worked on all my vehicles at some point. Even at one point doing out of the normal custom work. He goes the extra mile and ensures customer satisfaction which is something you do not find many places. He is always willing to answer any questions/​concern you may have no matter how silly they may seem. He also will even explain what has failed or what contributed to the problem that brought you into his shop.
I had dropped off my car that morning with a brief description on what it was doing and what the trouble code was. He had called me within an hour and told me what the issue was gave me a quote on what it would cost to fix it. They had my car completed and the keys ready for me to pick up even before the promised time.
I recommend this shop!!!

If I could give zero stars I would. Called 3 times for an estimate from Clay and all three times I was told I would receive a call back. He never called back and he always had some excuse why he couldn’t talk on the phone at that moment… meeting, dr appointment, or looking up parts. You would think a business would get back to you when dealing with a job that is going to cost upwards of $ 4000. Way to go guys! Judging by other reviews on here its easy to see I am not the only potential customer that has been left with a sour taste in their mouth.

I got stuck out in the area and these guys took great care of me! Met the owner Malik, and he really attentive with the diagnostics of my vehicle. Glad there’s still some honest mechanics out there!!! thanks guys!

Sounds like there have been a lot of bad experiences here, and it almost makes me happy that they «stopped» taking the coupon I paid $$ for. I came here once to get an oil change, and the red flag should have gone up when I had to return to the place on 3 separate occasions before the FINALLY agreed to take my car (yes, I called ahead of time as well — «bring it in! no problem!»).
I called today and got a «we don’t do oil changes response». When I said I had been there the last time, he told me that they stopped doing oil changes because they lost too much money, and WILL NOT take coupons at all. They have on record everyone who bought the coupon, so a notice would have been nice. $$ down the drain, I guess I’ll be changing my own oil from now on.
Horrible service + angry employees = no more customers. Good luck staying in business jackwagons.

One star only because you have too. These guys have worked on my car for years and have always done a great job at reasonable price. NOT anymore. Mike is gone (under strange circumstances) and the new guy has not a clue. Did not get a repair order estimate, was only told that it would be half of the dealers quote. Yeah, not so much. Kept getting the runaround on when the work was to be done. Went in after 2 days to check and did not see the car. Asked where it was and was told that they were using it for running parts. I was so shocked I actually said ok and left. Should have called the police. Eventually, I got the car back and everything seemed ok except the light on the dash did not go out. Zack said it would after 60 miles. 300 later and the light is still on. Also, a light bulb is missing from the rear of the car. Can’t figure that at all. Stay away from these guys.

WHAT A JOKE! DO NOT bring your vehicle here! Mike will rip you off. do not listen to what other people say. i brought my car there 4 times to get repairs for a smog, Mike told me «dont worry, your check engine light wont be coming back on» and as soon as i get home, it does! okay. then one of the times i went to pick it up, it was close to closing time. the car dies on me in the middle of the street! i thought it was just low on gas because they said they would test drive it first before calling me, but test drive just means a lap around their small parking lot. not on the streets. so thankfully i was able to get it started up again before they closed their doors for the day otherwise i would have been screwed! i dont know what they did, but they didnt fix it thats for sure. i spent about $ 1,300 on repairs and it wasnt much better than when i brought it in.

Michael is the man! After Honda gave me a quote that was more than I could stomach to replace a clutch, I was referred to him by some other shops nearby.
He explained everything in a very calm and honest fashion. He showed me the damaged part after the replacement to confirm where the problem was and what they fixed. Dropped down the labor pricing slightly but they were already fairly competitive from the quotes I gathered from other places so that was a nice little bonus.
He even picked me up (not that I live far) when my car was ready! Bottom line, great guy with a very upbeat attitude and no BS. He told me exactly how long it would take for replacement and my car was ready in the time frame I was told to expect. Would use them again for any repairs that they cover.
