Patrick answered the phone which was better than I was getting from my other calls and agreed to come over and provide an estimate the following day. If I wanted him to do the work he would begin the work right away.
I was ready at the appointed time, but waited 45 minutes for Patrick to show up. I did receive a phone call that he was running late, but not until it was already 20 minutes past the appointment time. He eventually got there and gave me an estimate based on the work as opposed to the hour, which I liked ($ 15 per door, $ 100 for base board, etc.). I thought it was a fair price and signed a contract for him to begin work immediately.
Patrick called me to let me know the work was done the next day. I set up a time to meet him and pay him later. I arrived to find that my painted doors were left in the carport on plastic, and that he had not touched up the baseboard where it was nailed in. I was irritated about the base board, but thought that perhaps the doors were my fault since I had not specified that they were to be put on the door frames… Even so he should not have left them outside. I paid him as agreed.
The next day I returned to fix the doors and base board. I then noticed that he had leaned the doors on each other still wet, so that when I moved them paint came off. Half of the base board was unpainted and I could not touch up the nail holes on it unless I wanted to paint it first. I also found that a linen closet had not even had the base board nailed in, that one door had been painted on only one side, and fully half of my door knobs had paint overspray on them.
Patrick gets a star for his pricing scheme, and a star for availability. I wouldn’t use him again though. I was paying a handyman to finish work so I wouldn’t have to. It ended up taking me a week of after work work to fix everything.
