Incredibly bummed to hear JR’s is apparently closed as of recently. Hopefully it’s just a weird glitch, but news travels fast about an awesome bar. Too bad, it was quite the place.

In need of a strong, cheap drink? This is the place to go! The price is right, the drinks are strong and(most of) the bartenders aren’t too hard on the eyes either ;-) I mean really… how can you beat $ 1 draughts? The only reason I rated 4 instead of 5 stars is at times this place can get a bit crowded. The upstairs patio is freakin’ awesome when it’s open… if this were the case more often it wouldn’t be a sardine soirée. Bumper to bumper, standing room only is so sophomore year of college! But, if you like that sort of thing, for sure come here on Thursday nights. Otherwise, the weekends are a blast — plus karaōke, bingo, boys and music videos during the week! I usually recommend this bar for folks coming from out of town who are in the mood for a big stiffy… drink that is ;-)

I was visiting a friend in Denver over the 4th of July weekend, and this was one of my stops on my way from sober to completely wasted Friday night. It definitely was one of the bigger steps, considering how cheap the drinks are. THESPACE: I thought it was pretty cool inside. Very laid-back, not too crowded. Also, loved their music. Definitely makes you want to get up and dance even if no one is dancing. THESERVICE: Loved the bartenders there. Don’t remember the name of ours, but he was cute, nice, and made our drinks strong. THEBESTPART — THEPRICES: My friend got well drinks for something like $ 4, and I got a tall Jameson on the rocks and paid $ 6. Pretty much unheard of. Basically, gay or straight, grab a couple of friends and head here for some drinks.

Based on the other review I will agree JR’s has hot bar tenders and thats about it. On several occasions I’ve ordered drinks that are weak and made incorrectly. Amaretto sour is not sour mix with drop of amaretto for color. They have also closed off the upstairs are the last few times which make the bar extremely crowded.

Went here and just missed happy hour. Boooo!!! Lol jk. Well even without happy hour the drinks were cheap yet strong. The bartenders were VERY friendly. =D Special shoutouts to Kevin, Raj, Eddie, and the Chinese bartender(sorry dude, didn’t catch your name that night). The locals were awesome as well and the music weren’t loud as hell that you’ll have to scream at someone to talk. Overall, it’s worth checking out this bar!!! =D PS. Is it just me or the«Grill» part is missing? Don’t think you can order food here unless you’re ordering cheap liquid dinner that’ll get you buzzed pretty fast. Lol

ahhhh… wandered into this place last summer with a friend from out of town. We got kicked out after not even finishing off our first drink … we were stone cold sober. Not sure why we got booted, my friend has a crazy eye … maybe that is what scared them. We got kicked out, sober. It wasn’t until later that night that we found out it was a gay bar. Kind of annoyed that we got kicked out in retrospect as we were sober and not being to obnoxious. From the ten minutes i was there I was not impressed … I like my gay bars flaming, didn’t even know I was in one.

Drinks are strong and at a decent price. This place doesn’t seem to fill up like it use to be its still a fun time.

One of our friends really enjoys this place and convinced us to join him one night… and this place is so much fun! The drinks are strong, and reasonably priced, the music is great(along with the music videos on a bunch of screens on every wall), the bartenders are attentive, and the people friendly :)

Me: «Two Grey Goose and sodas please…» JR Bartender: Makes drinks quickly, «That’ll be $ 6 please.» Me: «So $ 6 each, right?» As I hand him a $ 20. JR: «No, $ 6 total.» Me: «I’m sorry, what?!» JR: «6 total, please.» Me: «You know… where I’m from, this would be $ 20 total!» Cheap drinks + coming straight to the bar after getting off the plane + Bay Area boy not accustomed to the elevation = hot tranny mess. I had a blast though. It was one of the most relaxed gay bars I’ve ever been to. Two floors and two bars of homo Colorado chic. And yes, the boys were beautiful. I have to say, coming straight off the plane, JR’s just made me realize I was going to enjoy this city. It wasn’t trendy. It wasn’t snobby. People were nice… and everyone dressed for warmth, rather than vanity. It was just a great place to meet my friend’s new dyke entourage over some pool and beer, without having to scream over the music to understand a word anyone was saying. A couple more cheap drinks and I would’ve been mounting the nearest mountain man.

Probably the least gay bar that I like in Denver. The staff and drinks are just fine but the place is soooo freaking loud(even for a bar)! The acoustics in that building was not for a bar for sure. It used to be an Indian restaurant before JR’s took over. It is fun enough but prepare to scream at the top of your lungs no matter where you are in the place.

Well getting acquainted with a local fiefdom takes time. This is specifically true when speaking of JR’s and the Denver Gay scene. For the most part the bartenders are pretty nice and friendly, but the patrons are another story. The locals seem pretty impressed with themselves and as previously stated by other reviews, judgmental. As for the Music and décor — — TIRED. All in all, the drinks are inexpensive and If you’re looking for a watering hole on the 17th side of town it’s an option.

JRs might not be the trendiest place. JRs may house some bitches. But seriously, reading these negative reviews is really pissing me off! That’s because JRs is like a good friend that might not be the coolest, but damn it — you better not be talking shit! JRs is chill, has great drinks that are super cheap, and is the most consistently busy gay bar in Denver. JRs is also versatile. If you like a crowd, go on Thursdays. If you want to chill, go on Sunday afternoon. It’s perfect for the pre-party and the after party. Plus it’s right on 17th Ave — one of the coolest streets in Denver. So all of you that are easily offended by the«pretentious crowd» — get over it and order me a round of shots! :)

Boy, for a city this size Denver has some totally lame ass gay bars. I guess this is one of the better ones but that is damning with faint praise. Pretty young crowd. Basically, if you’re over 35, you’re invisible and that includes being invisible to the bartenders. Getting a drink can be a major chore. They play the same«club» music all the time — ho hum. We need a revival of some of the great bars that Denver used to have back in the day(the Broadway, 1942, Alfie’s, Club Tower, Trax(not the same anymore), the Foxhole, Garbo’s). Now, I’d just as soon stay home. Haven’t been to Moe’s yet — hearing pretty good things but I have a hard time spending my gay dollars in a bar owned by straights. Oh, and what’s with the name«JR’s Bar and Grill»? Granted there is plenty of meat around — just never seen any on a grill.

JR’s is one of the few gay bars in Denver, but I’d also deem that it’s the best. I love that it’s two stories and the second floor has the outside deck. Perfect for those gorgeous Denver nights. Drag Queen Bingo is always on Wednesday nights at 9:30 pm(honestly some of the worst looking queens I’ve ever seen, but nonetheless, drag queen wanna-bes, a round of free drinks on the house and free bingo!). I think what I like best about JR’s is that it’s not pretentious at all(compared to many Chicago bars). All I can remember from my JRs night is hitting it off with a fun, cliché bachlorette party, the bachlorette making out with plenty of other girls and us sucking on penis lollipops together. Truly, it was an enjoyable night out!

Bit crowded, but in general pretty good. Hot bartender named Matt. He has muscles and dimples and is just really fun to look at.

While I’m neither gay nor bi, I’m a fan of JRs. I’ve been twice, both times with a friend of mine who has since moved away, so I haven’t been back recently, but JRs was loud, crowded and fun. Lots of people, very friendly and happy and excited to be out for the night. I’ve noticed that drinks are relatively cheap and they’re pretty fkn strong too. B+ for sure.

CHEAP drinks! Tip well(especially on the first round) and you’ll get plenty of attention. LOVE Karaōke night! The other patrons are super friendly. You can go here by yourself and just start talking to people and make friends(pretty damn rare for most of Denver).

The thing I like most about JRs is that it’s so different on each night. Sometimes it’s super crowded and loud. Others it’s completely laid back. No, no. Wait. The thing I like most about JRs is Fagula Feud, Drag Queen Bingo and their other game shows. No, no. Wait! The thing I like most about JRs is I can saunter in wearing a red afro wig and a gold tutu and no one blinks an eye. Or is it the stiff and cheap drinks? Or is it that I feel completely comfortable even if I’ve just tumbled down a whole flight of stairs, spilling my beer on my date in front of me who was nice enough to go with me to a gay bar to meet my friends even though he is clearly a straight man? (By the way I can neither confirm nor deny that last point is true.) Hmmpfh. Obviously there are a lot of things I like about JRs. It’s a fun bar no matter your sexual orientation. And that’s all that really counts in my book.
