The Spa at The Crescent

Had the lavender dream the best massage treatment ever!!! I am a spa snob– — the attendants– Demetrius was amazing definitely a 10 !!!

Incredibly disappointed. As a point of reference: We work in NYC’s beauty industry and are humbled to know what good makeup looks like. Sadly, what we got at the Spa did not fit the bill. We were staying at Crescent Hotel for a wedding and booked back to back makeup sessions bc we wanted to be on time for the wedding. My sister went first for her session and after 40 minutes she looked atrocious… Like a witch. She had to stop the makeup artist halfway and we ran to the room to have her wash her face. Now we are at a nearby salon, rushing, hoping that we make it to the wedding on time. I wish we would have just booked at another place before wasting 45 minutes. Why the two stars? The makeup artist was incredibly nice and sweet, so was the rest of the staff. I can’t emphasize enough how nice everyone was. That said, do NOT book a makeup session here. Frankly, this should not be a service offered on their website.

Prior to making my appointment I did my research and found other facilities offering the same services or even less at a higher price.

I did an «Uptown Slowdown» spa package on a Saturday afternoon.
The Uptown Slowdown included:
50 minute swedish massage
25 minute facial
50 minute pedicure
Lunch provided
Access to the sauna, steam room and whirl pool (hot tub).
All for price of $ 240 with gratuity/​tip already included.
The staff was helpful and made sure you were hydrated. The pedicure, although traditional to nail salons, was not in a massage chair with your feet soaking in water. The specialist massaged my feet and calves and was very meticulous on making my feet look pretty.
The facial was nice but I have nothing to compare it to since it was my first facial. The swedish massage was awesome! The massage therapist concentrated on my neck as I had requested and worked wonders. The lunch provided was great, as I ordered a salad and raspberry sorbet.
This place was a little out dated cosmetically as stated in previous reviews, but still nice. The only eye sore I saw was the ceiling in the whirlpool room. This room needs to be cleaned and not just chlorinated because the ceiling has mold growing and condensation drips into the pool.
The restrooms were nice and private and offered many mirrors, hair styling products and so forth. Granted, the facilities were not perfect and could use a few changes, but for the over all price I left very pleased.
On another note: I never heard cars in the parking garage making noise above me and there are elevators to use if you don’t want to use the stairs. The spa will also validate your valet ticket for parking at the front desk.

I had a great experience, 50 min massage, 50 minute facial. Staff is great, friendly and helpful. Nail services (mani and pedi) were just okay. Would absolutely come back for another girls day at the spa!

I went here recently for a 50 minute massage and had an amazing experience. From start to finish, the service was impeccable. Courtney was my massage therapist and I would go back to her again. She was very professional and gave one of the best massages I’ve had.

The spa facilities are nice, and one of the attendants, Mary, was outstanding; but that’s were it ends. I booked a Fusion 110 min massage, but it was changed to a Signature massage. When I questioned the change, I was rudely brushed off. The massage therapist was cold/​stern/​tense, and the entire massage had the same feel. It was anything but relaxing. I asked for deep tissue massage, but instead got quick, shallow strokes the entire time. At one point she did a quick, jerky push to my right hip, which sent my right flank into spasm (it took me until after midnight to stretch out the tightness). This was the worst massage I have ever had, and not at all appropriate for a high-​end spa. Awful!

The spa is beautiful. The staff was nice. I wish I had something more positive to say, but it goes downhill from here on. My massage therapist although sweet gave me the kind of massage I would have expected at a cheap hole in the wall place in China town in Las Vegas. She asked if I had any places on my body that needed more attention, and I told her my legs needed more attention. I don’t know why she asked, because she didn’t give my legs anything more than a rub down. She fiddled so much with the blankets that I came to the conclusion that it was her way of passing the time. On top of everything, my room was directly under the parking garage and it kept rumbling every 3 minutes. I wouldn’t recommend a massage at this spa.

Worse experience ever! My daughter who is 6 months pregnant was bringing me here for my birthday to have a massage and pedicure together.
We checked in and all seemed great, they said we were on the schedule and ready to go, they called my daughter back for her massage but not me. 20 mins into what was to be my massage the manager appeared and said sorry they did not have a person to give me a massage– really when we checked in they did– she was not real nice but did say they would not charge us for the massage I did not get– how nice of them! Not ! Fun a very well known wealthy person happened to walk in right after us and a massage therapist came and got here right away, could that have been the one that was suppose to do my massage and I got bumped??? Needless to say I did not get a massage. My daughter said her massage was terrible the massage therapist talked the entire time, not very relaxing!
They have ruined my birthday celebration with my daughter and the staff was horrible ! Do not come here for a massage!
The good news is the pedicures were very nice .

Exceptionally nice people. I felt pampered upon arrival! My massage was exactly what I asked for — very experienced masseuse and super nice. I’ll for sure be coming back here again!

For the amount of money you have to spend to enjoy the services at this spa, the overall experience is appalling. To start, the whole spa is outdated and desperately in need of renovation. The whirlpool room is so dirty, with rust and mold stains all over it. The spa was littered with dirty towels and empty water cups. I had planned to spend the whole morning there really relaxing and getting away from everything. I went into the «quiet room» after the whirlpool to relax and could not believe how not quiet it was. Directly outside the quiet room door, multiple spa employees were chatting in loud Spanish almost non stop. They were slamming doors and cabinets and being unbelievably loud. Further more, every 1 or 2 minutes the whole room would shake like a train was passing over the room, or an earthquake. I’m assuming it was work-​out equipment directly above the room but it was the loudest and most bizarre thing. It was almost comical how bad it was but then at the end of the day, when you pay, its shocking they can charge so much for such outdated, poor service. I will absolutely not be going back to the Crescent until they update the facilities and teach their employees how to nurture a spa environment.

My previous review seemed to be deleted. Just be careful the overcharge your card after you leave. I kept getting charges three times after I left the spa I had to have the manger write an email so my credit card company could reimburse me back for the scam. They even charge a credit card that was cancelled a while back.

My girlfriends and I have been to the Crescent several times in the last couple of years. But this was the worse experience I’ve had and I won’t be back. Of course I go with a travelzoo voucher, why would I pay full price? There are so many restrictions now that weren’t there before. No use of the gym and pool. If you want to use the gym for that day, it is an additional $ 25. I can get past not using the gym and pool but the massage service was awful! I don’t know if the best masseuses only work Friday and Saturday (when you can’t use the voucher). I asked my masseuse to please concentrate on the right side of my neck, she worked more on the left. I repeat it to her during the massage and still nothing. And sadly, my other 2 friends also had terrible massages. The only lovely aspect of the entire day was the staff inside the spa, they are lovely sweet ladies that will do anything to help you enjoy. And two of them recognize me every time I go. Sorry to say I won’t be seeing them anymore.

Had a great facial only to be grossed out by the black mold growing in the ladies shower stall. For these prices, I’d expect perfection, and while the facial was one of the best ever, I won’t be back.

My husband surprised me with half day here just a couple weeks ago. I would say the massage was the highlight of the whole day. It was just amazing and I will definitely be back for that but the rest of treatments are just average.
The food could have been a little better. But the tea was warm and delicious. I left here more relaxed over all.
I do have to say this isn’t my favorite place for getting the most out of your money. It didn’t feel quite as relaxing as some other spas have been. I’ll have to review some of those.

So I guess I don’t really have a frame of reference since I ain’t no baller YET (I definitely felt like a poser during my weekend escapade), but the Spa at the Crescent was an amazing, relaxing experience. I was lucky enough to be treated to a girl’s weekend where we indulged in 2 hour treatments and some pampering by the lovely ladies taking care of us. I had the Japanese Blossom treatment, where the lovely Lucia scrubbed, patted, and massaged my body into heavenly bliss. She was friendly and warm, and made me feel very comfortable. All the staff seemed very nice. Facilities seemed clean, from the day lockers to the well-​stocked bathroom, and I loved having cucumber water and fruit to enjoy at my leisure.
I guess when I win the lottery and become a true baller, I would go back to the Spa at the Crescent all the time. Because that’s what ballers do.

What a great experience! This was my first serious spa experience (a treat from a friend) and I had a really lovely day. All the employees were very friendly and helpful and all the services (massage, facial, mani and pedi) were very relaxing. Lunch was delicious and I got to squeeze in some whirlpool time. (There is also a wet and dry sauna but I didn’t want my hair to get huge.)
They get bonus points for being very accommodating to my friend when a problem cropped up and she was unable to join me. They have a 24-​hour cancellation policy (48 hours for packages) but it was very obvious that this simply couldn’t have been prevented. Solid customer service on their end and the sort of gesture that would definitely make me go back.

Everything else aside, this was by far the best scalp massage of my life. I was delirious and borderline comatose by the end of it — it was that good.
I was aware of the valet and basement oddities going into it, so it wasn’t hard to put those inconveniences aside. A friend and I were visiting to use our promotional coupons for a body massage, scalp massage/​hot oil treatment, mani & pedi. We arrived early to make use of the amenities before our services and found that we had the place mostly to ourselves on a Sunday afternoon. We’re both big fans of steam rooms, and while this one isn’t scented or able to fit more than 3 – 4 people, it got the job done. The motif is a bit dated, but the environment is serene, barring too many people in the waiting area yapping about the latest socialite gossip.
The massage was excellent, but the scalp massage/​oil treatment was beyond comparison. I could barely walk, let alone remember my name, after my masseuse got done. My friend later recounted a similar experience, but it took both of us a solid 20 minutes of sitting, sipping tea, and maintaining silence to regain lucid thought. THAT’s the sign of a great massage.
We had our mani & pedi in a semi-​private room that housed only two spa chairs which was perfect so that we could chat without trying to talk over other conversations. The odd/​awkward thing was that I could swear that the lady doing my mani/​pedi was fighting back tears and sniffling for the first half of my treatment. I wasn’t exactly sure what to do, and didn’t want to draw attention to her, but it was quite awkward.
Overall, I’d go back for a scalp massage and make sure I had plenty of time to soak in the whirlpool, make a stop in the steam room, and sip tea while reading trashy magazines in the lounge.

I recently came here with a friend with a travel zoo voucher for a massage-​plus-​lunch package.
The facility was fairly nice, but not as nice as I was expecting for a spa like the Crescent. The facility looked as of it had been built years ago (I think it was) and didn’t have that nice zen-​inducing feel that many modern spas do. The amenities in the waiting room included hot tea, which was nice, and fruit cups, which was eh.
For lunch, my entrée was a tuna salad. I expected the tuna in my salad to be ahi tuna… simply because that’s the type of tuna you see in most salads, unless you’re at a deli or sandwich shop. But the tuna in my salad was the type of tuna salad one would make with tuna out of a can… and find between two slices of bread. I was a bit surprised, but still enjoyed my salad. And my erronenous assumption was my fault, since the menu did not specify the type of tuna in the salad. My friend, on the other hand, ordered a different type of salad that came with sliced avocados. After noticing that some of the avocados were marked by what appeared to be brown bruising, my friend tried to get the server’s attention. The server, however, never once looked our way. My friend had to yell across the room to get the server’s attention. After replacing the avocados, the server returned to ignoring us for the rest of our meal.
As for my massage, I thoroughly enjoyed it. My friend also enjoyed her massage but said she had a hard time relaxing because the room was so cold.
In sum — nice services, «eh» amenities. I doubt I’ll be returning. The thing is, when you go to a spa like the Crescent, you’re paying for more than just the service; you’re paying for the spa experience. If you’re simply looking for a good massage and don’t mind paying the spa bucks, go to the Crescent (money grows on trees for you, eh?). But if you’re looking for the whole spa relaxation experience, I’d recommend you go somewhere else.

My heart is broken… what was once my «go to» spa and home of the «gift that always works for my husband» is now a «not ever again» place for me. The real deal breaker is that after a horrible experience neither Jennifer Haack, the Spa Director or Linda Wan, The Managing Director, have taken the time to return my calls.
On November 11^th (yes, almost a month ago) I went in with a gift certificate from my husband for the Ocean Body Contour package post child birth. Regina was my technician. She was great. She had healing hands and was very good at what she does. The package included a scrub, wrap, bath, and massage. The problem was that the room had cold air blowing down on my back the entire time. It’s hard enough to stay warm during any wrap or scrub. However, with cold air blasting, it really takes away from the «relax» part of why we go to the spa. Regina was gracious and continually put hot towels on me and was very apologetic. After the scrub, wrap, and bath, I asked Regina if we could find a warmer room for the massage. She was able to do so and that helped. However, I was still shivering and never was able to relax and have the experience I expected.
Upon checking out, I shared my negative experience with the cashier. She immediately gave me 20% off and said she’d share my experience with the spa director. I then got a phone call 20 minutes later to tell me that she spoke to Jennifer Haack and to «make it up to me» they were inviting me back to have the Ocean Body Contour package for 50% off. My mouth dropped. On top of the fact that my husband already spent $ 320 for the gift certificate, and we paid a baby sitter for 4 hours, you want me to «come back» and spend MORE money so that you can «fix» it? This is the craziest thing I ever heard, «come spend more money and time so we can make you happy»
I shared my frustration with my husband he suggested I call and give them a chance. I left a message for the spa director. A week later, I left a message for her boss, the Managing Director. Neither have bothered to call me back.
I will not spend another dime there EVER again. They’ve lost a customer who understands that they aren’t the only gig in town. I value my time and my money more than showing up to spend more after a horrible experience.
The good news is, since then… I had a fabulous massage from Eric at Hiatus Spa and a great scrub and wrap from Charlotte at The VSpa. The money left over on my Rosewood Giftcard will be used for sushi at Nobu. Luckily, my heart is mending and their is light at the end of the Crescent (stick up their butt) tunnel.

To be completely honest, I’m actually at a stand still at what to write *gasp*, I know. I received a gift certificate and was so excited since I’d been DYING to try their services. The Crescent is like the Godfather of ALL salons and spa’s (as far as reputation goes)…to say anything bad would be a travesty! GAH!
So on the day of my appt (a signature deep massage) I arrive and if you haven’t been here, you need to go the LOWEST level of the building… you will go down about 100 stairs. Also, if you valet (the spa will validate!), go in the side door which is the spa’s private entrance.
Check in was easy and everyone was super nice, however after that I had no idea where to go or what to do?! I was shown to the waiting area and locker room. I put my things in a locker and sat down. It was so loud and crowded! There must have been some big party of people or something… not what I want before a massage. No one told me how long I would be waiting, if I was in the right area or anything. Finally I asked a woman if there was a quieter place for me to wind down before my appt and she took me back to a lovely little waiting area. Why wouldn’t you tell all people waiting they should go here?!
The masseuse came to get me and took me back, I told her all my problem areas and that I like it really hard and deep (yes, yes that’s what she said). Anyways, she left me to get comfy under the covers, etc. First of all, I know I’m not alone in thinking that a massage is supposed to be relaxing, quiet and peaceful. When she came back in the room, she was speaking so loud, gave no mention that she was about to start (she just started) and tried to have a conversation with me. After about 5 minutes, I just stopped responding.
On a good note, the massage was fantastic! She really did an amazing job. It’s just with the talking, the loudness, the water faucet running at one point… I wasn’t as relaxed as I would have liked.
When I went to pay (remember, I had a gift card)…the woman checking me out was so confused on how I was suppose to tip. I told her I wanted to pay cash. She looked even more lost. So I handed her the cash and she just set it down on the counter. I asked her if I needed to take it back to the masseuse and she promised she would take care of it. So I hope she got my tip!
Not really sure about a return visit as there is another spa I usually go to. But I will say that overall, the massage itself was great… its just so many little factors contributed that im kind of meh. So sad.
