Planet Beach Contempo Spa

This place is not ethical. Do not join. I moved an hour away and they won’t release my contract. Still insistent that I can drive an hour to use their under par facility. The beds u need are never avail unless u can wait ³⁰⁄₄₅ min. Two years after not stepping foot in their facility they r still trying to charge me for a membership I haven’t and refuse to use. Refuse to pay their $ 300 cancellation fee as well.

I bought a Groupon to this location. It was 5 services for $ 19. My friend and I booked our 4 of our appointments at the same time. When I walked in I was greeted by two lovely ladies at the front desk. They were very sweet.
We were given a tour of the place. All of the services are automated. So there no actual person giving you a massage or facial which was a bummer at first. But I actually loved the facial and the beauty angel. They have some awesome membership packages. I had a really great time the only thing I didn’t enjoy was the hydrofusion capsule it was really hot and I got a little irritation on my stomach.

Got a groupon for this place, 5 services for $ 20. The spa itself has really cute and pretty decorations, and the ladies who work there are absolutely wonderful! However, I was really looking forward to getting a massage from someone and was a bit disappointed to find that all the services here are electronic (massage chair instead of a person, special lights on your face instead of a person giving you a facial.) I got 3 services in one day and have to come back for the other two. You also have to wait ~10 minutes to get from one service to the next… but if you are patient, that’s not a problem at all. Overall, really nice first experience, but I don’t think I’d come back without a groupon.

Recently got a membership after my girlfriend had been going for months. She got me a day pass to experience the spa and I enjoyed it. They explained to me all the different options they had and I never felt too pressured to join which I like. I joined recently because I’m always attending events so I figured I may as well get a membership for spray tans instead of paying for individual sessions which can get pricey. To be honest, I feel spray tans are all kind of the same at all the different options of places there are. What has set this place apart from the other places are the prices with everything they have to offer and the customer service. Every single girl that has worked here since I joined has been amazing to me. So friendly, welcoming, and they’ve always made me feel hAppy when I walk out of the salon.

I am overall super disappointed with this tanning business. They did a great job selling the membership and services, however, I felt that the terms of the agreement were not disclosed during the sales process. I would have NEVER signed up for a tanning membership that required a 60 day notice and $ 100 cancellation fee had I realized the terms. I didn’t even live close to this location and was told that another location was close to my home. It was 6 miles away and it took over 20 – 30 minutes to get to this location (DFW traffic). I only used my membership 3 times in 6 months! I called to cancel and I still had to pay the cancelation fee after paying over $ 300 in the past 6 months. I guess those must go down in as the most expensive spray tans I will purchase in my lifetime. We all have company policies but sometimes we have to go outside of those policies because it’s the right thing to do.

Came in here last Monday around 6:00 AFTER making an appointment a few days in advance, it was busy at all. I can see how it would get busy on a weekend, but it’s like that everywhere in Dallas! I went in for a spray tan, and I can honestly say it was the best experience I’ve had a Planet Beach location because of Jo. She was super friendly and really acted like she cared! I have been to 3 other locations before for one of their Mystic Tans (I think they work really great for special occasions), and it was just the best experience here.
If you sign up online at their homepage, you will instantly receive a $ 25 gift certificate to use towards a service! Hope the deal is still going on for you! Anyways, when I got there Jo wasn’t sure it was valid to use just on that, and she was so nice about it and even called her manager to ask. even though I said it was fine I would do it anyway! She really wanted me to get my deal! She even talked to me about all her tips and tricks for doing the spray tan. Before leaving she gave me a deal for an additional 3 free services and one for a friend! I would definitely go back there!

If you have a fairly busy life and need to stick to a schedule like me then this is NOT the place to get a spray tan or use the massage chairs. I always have to wait at least 20 minutes every time I go here for these services, even though I have an appointment scheduled. I’ve decided to take my business elsewhere and save more time!

While I was using my GroupOn purchase it was a fun place. I mainly went for the sunless tanning and the massage chair which is one of the best ones I have experienced. The mistake was purchasing a membership. My advice is DONT DO IT. STICK WITH GROUPON DEALS .
I was promised unlimited spray tanning for a rate that was about the same as other tanning salons but what sold me is that most of their other services were included as well. After joining it became more difficult (not impossible) to book a time for the spray tan. In addition when arriving on time for a session there was always a 30 minute to an hour wait as someone was before me. It was clear that group-​on members who walked in off the street or called for a reservation took priority over members with a reservation. Booking the massage chair or any other included service other than tanning was just about impossible. After a few weeks the spray on tan booth started malfunctioning not in a dangerous way but in a quality way. The spray nozzle was not spraying evenly and would get stuck on the vertical track spraying one spot.
About 4 months after my membership started I went in for a spray on tan and was told that there was a $ 9 surcharge for all spray tans. I complained and they reduced it to $ 6. After I left I decided it was not worth it. I went in to cancel and they said they were working in getting the surcharge removed and that I should put my membership on hold for $ 5 a monthly fee rather than paying a $ 50 cancellation fee, This was the first I had heard of a cancellation fee. This went on for several months and I had to keep an eye on my account as it was taken off hold twice and I was charged the $ 70 monthy fee. They did promptly correct it when I called.
I was sent to work in our Greensboro office. I called to cancel my membership. They said I had to come in and do this in person. It took over 4 months to get my membership canceled and charges credited.
I CAN’T WARN YOU ENOUGH. THIS IS A SHADY OPERATION. They have a great concept and my original review resulting from my group-​on experience gave them 5 stars. After subscribing it was clear I had made a mistake. I would even go so far as to say when using groupon and you want to purchase something at the spa use cash as the amount of unauthorized charges was excessive (they did promptly correct the charges when brought to their attention).

The new owner and the employees are great at Planet Beach. It has been a great experience. I use to buy packages every so often wasn’t to impressed and NOW I’ve become a member because their service rocks! I use the beauty angel, oxygen bar, hydration bed, red light facial therapy with massage chair. I love it!

I have been a member since the first day Planet Beach opened in Uptown. I have stuck through all of the management changes because I believe 110% in the services they offer. I should add that I am a Personal Trainer and Nutritionist of 16years.
I am so THRILLED with the new owner and staff! They have made so many great changed/​additions to the existing services, and most importantly they BELIEVE in the services because the owner used to be a member like me. As a result… they have changed the vibe in the spa. less pushy/“sale-sy” to more upbeat and energizing!
I now look forward to my time in the spa… which is my only gift to myself during the week. I choose Planet Beach over massage… it is my mini-​vacation!

This place has made many improvements and stepping up to make your experience wonderful. I was able to give the spa another try and was very impressed with the positive changes. Everyone was nice, informative and helpful. For all the treatment options you have, this is a great idea and can be worth your money. (especially if you spray tan!) Great new management and great staff!

Terrible. I bought the groupon for 3 «massages», facials and derma hydration treatments. Let me say I visited this place today and only had the «massage» and hydration and left. This place is lacking personality, the staff is friendly but that doesn’t drive your business. You’re going to be massaged by machines not people!

Loved my experience there so far, new management so they are changing a lot! They are in the works adding an oxygen bar, and recently added a Beauty Angel.
Staff has been warm and friendly and haven’t had any problems with scheduling. They also said they are working on an app so you don’t have to call and schedule so it should be even better.
Glad they’ve been working to turn this place around.

After seeing a deal on groupon, I thought I would check it out. Like the other reviews on here, my main problem is with the management.
For any service here, you must book an appointment. Not a big deal to me, but every time I come in, I have had to wait 20 minutes, which defeats the purpose of an appointment. This is not a place where you can pop in and out.
Most of the staff is friendly and sweet, but it seems like they are understaffed. Also, when I first came in, the manager or owner (I think his name was Billy) was very pushy about trying to get me to purchase more sessions. I came in expecting a sales pitch because I purchased a groupon, but what really bothered me was that it was like buying a car. There was wheeling and dealing to get more services for x amount if I purchased today and so on. Also, there are no prices listed anywhere for anything (services, membership, lotions, etc). That seems shady and it takes away from the «spa» atmosphere.
For the actual spa amenities, they were nice and clean based on my experience. For tanning, you now have to buy the eyewear. It’s not expensive, but it has been included in all the other tanning places I’ve been.

As a resident of Uptown I often drive by Planet Beach. I finally decided to check it out last night since its walking distance from my apartment.
I must say — the overall look of the salon is very appealing and clean. Jo helped me out and she is fabulous!
I did the hydration bed and loved it. 30 minutes later and I feel like a new person! Lot’s of sweating but I can tell a difference already in the look and feel of my skin.
I plan on making another appointment and trying out some other services like the slim capsule and tanning bed.

I love the concept of getting quality spa services in complete privacy. I don’t like having to talk to or engage with others while trying to relax, and tipping is not even an option. As a member, they get me in almost every time I call. I can usually get in for a tanning service, massage, or in the hydration station with little notice in advance. They’re very accommodating, and the staff is very friendly.

I came to Planet Beach with a Groupon (I think it was $ 25 for 6 services, including Mystic Tan). Caveat: since then, the Groupon no longer includes actual Mystic Tans, it includes just the Mystic Glow (essentially clear) or you have to pay an upgrade fee for color.
Well, I certainly got my moneys worth with the Mystic. It’s a Mystic HD machine and it’s the best color I’ve ever gotten (way better than the time I tried an airbrush tan). I use the color called Light. I also use their platinum tanning bed — it’s great.
The other machines are cool. Okay, maybe they’re a little gimmicky, but it’s fun. The have a «Slim Capsule» which is like a little vibrating sauna capsule you lay in which supposedly burns calories. There’s a «Hydration Capsule» which is a steaming capsule which really does help you feel softer and more moisturized. There’s an infared sauna. Infared saunas are the best — I’ve noticed an improvement in cellulite. I haven’t tried the massage machine (it looks unimpressive) or the red lamp facial (which they will try to get you to upgrade by buying a facial product). The only thing you do truly have to pay extra for is teeth whitening trays if you want to do the UV teeth whitening.
They will, of course, try to sell you a membership when you redeem your Groupon. You will have to schedule an appointment during a time which a salesperson can devote some time to giving you a tour and trying to sell it to you. After I finished off my Groupon I decided to come back in and get a membership. If you want unlimited Mystic tans, UV tans and other (yes, kinda gimmicky) spa services, I think it’s worth it.
I’ve always thought the staff was nice and the facilities were clean.

I recently bought a Groupon for services at Planet Beach. As with MANY Groupons I have purchased, it was difficult to make my initial appointment due to high volume of them being sold. It took 2 – 3 weeks. On my first visit, I used the photo facial treatment and the hydration pod. Both were amazing! The hydration pod left my skin feeling hydrated and visibly different for several days. The photo facial was great, and I do think my skin looked firmer, but the best part was the massage chair! Hands down best one, I have ever been in.
I purchased a membership and now it is much easier to schedule appointments, as they keep time open for members and you can book several weeks out in advance!

I have never gotten so many compliments on my skin as I did after doing the photo facial treatment here. I was a first-​timer and the staff walked me through the process, and helped me figure out what treatment was best for my skin. After a rather terrible experience with a massage chair at a nail salon recently, I was apprehensive about using the massage chair available there (part of the facial package), but the staff walked me through it and the experience was delightful.
I was so happy with the service I followed that up with a spin in their awesome tanning bed. The staff was way more knowledgable than the girls you find at some of the chain tanning salons — when they say, «It won’t burn,» they are telling the truth.
Totally coming back!

I found this place thru a groupon like almost everyone on here. My first time there was wonderful. I used the hydration station, massage chair w/​UV facial, and hydromassage. I had such a good experience I let the mgr Billy sign me up for a 6 month membership. He gave me 2 monthes free, 1 free as for their special and 1 free because I told him I dont tan and would never use those services so he gave me a month free instead of lowering the price for unused services.
2^nd time I came back OH BOY was it different. Every time since that first time has been horrible or just a bad experience. I just came back from my APPOINTMENT that I made yesterday. I came home in 5 minutes because Lewis (one of the staff there) let 3 walkins that came in a few minutes before my appt and put them in all the services. I was like «uh I made an appt yesterday, why are walkins in my time slots?» he kept saying he messed up and was offering $ 10 off their crap products
Another time I made an appt whoever took my call got my name wrong. They booked it under a similiar sounding name to mine. I came in for my appt and they said they had a «Sarah» booked for that time. I said «I made an appt earlier this week with Lauren for this time. Jocelyn who was there that day said she had to wait to see if this «Sarah» showed up for her appt. WHAT ABOUT MY APPT? I was thinking. She wanted me to reschedule and I said I was gonna wait right there to see if Sarah showed up. I knew the girl had just put my name wrong into their appt book. So I waited for 10 mins and wow guess what, there was no stinking Sarah, so finally Jocelyn got me started on my services.
Everytime I have an appt I get started late or they make me wait for some reason. The staff is completely incompetent. Their machines are always «down» or «out of service» which is an added annoying factor. One time I was waiting for one of my services and a repair man was there fixing one of their machines. He came out and said «your machine wasnt plugged in» and he said he still had to charge them $ 75 for coming out for the call. Yeah, they were telling clients a service was down and clld the repair man because they didnt plug it in!
Use your groupon, and then run for it :)
