History
Established in 1988.
The Frontiers of Flight Museum was co-founded in 1988 by Kay Bailey Hutchison, Jan Collmer, and William E. Cooper. Their initial intent and vision was to exhibit at Dallas Love Field the «priceless» artifacts, documents and photographs of the History of Aviation Collection donated to the University of Texas at Dallas by the legendary aviation historian, George E. Haddaway.
The City of Dallas provided space on the mezzanine level of the main terminal building at Love Field, and the Museum opened with over 5,500 square feet of exhibits in June 1990. A State Transportation Enhancement grant along with matching gifts enabled construction of the current 100,000 square foot facility which opened in June 2004. Since then the Museum has added extensive exhibits and artifacts that showcase the history of aviation and space flight. The Museum has earned the prestigious designation as a Smithsonian Affiliate.
