Museum of Geometric and MADI Art

This museum is a hidden gem in the Uptown/​Turtle Creek area of Dallas. Run by a caring, knowledgeable team, you’ll see some very unique art styles and some pieces that will have you intrigued for a long time to come.

Small museum but definitely worth taking a look at. We came on a rainy day so the museum was left all to ourselves! The lady who was there managing give us a quick tour of the place once we came in and then left us to take a look at our own pace. Many of the pieces are made from people in Dallas, it gives you a nice feeling that it was made locally. It’s isn’t like a normal museum, everything is really close together and the entire building has a sort of retro style.

One of Dallas’ most well kept secrets! If you’re like me and have been to all the big-​name DFW museums so many times you could get around them blindfolded, go check out this little gem. The art is unlike anything you’ll find elsewhere in town and the staff was extremely welcoming and informative. A leisurely walkthrough took my wife and I about an hour, you could see everything in half that if you were in a hurry. It’s completely free, but we liked it enough to give a donation and will definitely be back in the future.

I’m not sure why this museum isn’t well known, because it’s the only museum in the Texas region that supports geometric and Madi pieces.
I needed to write an assignment over a work of art at a museum for one of my courses. My first instinct was to visit a more «well-​known» art museum, such as the Kimbell. However, it was impossible to find a museum that was 1) opened on Sundays and 2) free. I only needed to write about one piece that stood out to me, and I didn’t see the point of paying $ 10 or so for an assignment that wasn’t weighed heavily.
The Madi museum is awesome; if there’s such thing as a hole in the wall museum, this would be one of them. Before you come here and think that it’s going to be a magnificent building with architecture that shines through, think again. It’s a very simplistic building with a humble little private lot. The museum has two main rooms downstairs, and a walk through upstairs (also a law office upstairs, which is very neat).
Though it’s small, this museum packs so many pieces that range from different time periods. I would say that most of the pieces are modern, but they do have hints of Madi himself. The Madi museum also hangs up a few pieces from local art students and has a small section where you can actually buy works of art!
We were welcomed by a friendly woman named Mary Ann and she pretty much gave us a personalized tour of the museum. My boyfriend and I could see that she had such a strong passion for art, and she had so much to say and such fantastic facts and tidbits to share. She was the only employee that we saw working on a Sunday afternoon, but she was great and made our experience very enjoyable.
An aspect that I really liked about this museum is that several of the artists that were featured are from right here in the DFW. They visit the museum often for shows, which occur every season (they also have complimentary drinks and snacks)! Most importantly, this museum is always opened on weekends and is completely free all the time.
This museum is definitely a place to check out in Uptown. My boyfriend had no idea what geometric art was before I dragged him along, but now he loves it! It’s a great place to visit for a date or if you would like to experience a taste of geometric art. I was so glad that we came here on a whim for my assignment!

Interesting little museum located in Uptown. We showed up the other day and no one was there to welcome us, tell us where to go etc. Luckily we ran into an employee from one of the law firms and he told us to walk around and check it out. This is not the type of art I gravitate towards, but I could appreciate it nonetheless.
