After many wonderful years in South Cost Plaza we have relocated to our newer, more modern and beautiful facility in the Metro Pointe Office Towers. The optometrist in Costa Mesa is located just past the elevators on the ground level of the 6-​story mirrored office building called the Pacific Mercantile Bank in the Metro Pointe Office Towers. Our Costa Mesa eye exam office is approximately one block west of Crystal Court South Coast Plaza, and serves the nearby areas of Newport Beach, Newport Coast, Corona Del Mar, Irvine, and Huntington Beach, California.

Business Owner

Dr. Daniel E. Quon is a graduate of Southern California College of Optometry and has been in private practice for over 20 years.

He is a member of The American Optometric Association, California Optometric Association, Orange County Optometric Society, Primary Eyecare Network Advisory Board, OfficeMate Advisory Board, Pennsylvania College of Optometry Preceptor, and involved in FDA Clinical Investigative studies for various contact lenses & contact lens solutions.

Dr. Quon has received the Duffens Contact Lens Award, the COA Young OD of the Year Award, Optimist International Life Member Award, Greatest Increase in South Coast Plaza Award, 20⁄20 Magazine’s «Best and Brightest OD of the Year», interviewed in 2006 on Fox 11 News on Izon High Resolution glasses, was nominated and voted as 2009 Best Optometrist of Southern California by Best of LA TV, has appeared in the 2011 American Health Journal on PBS (KOCE), and was interviewed on CBS News in 2011 on Empower Electronic Eyewear.

The office is in a convenient location at Metro Pointe with ample parking.
The staff is polite and friendly.
Though, I will not be returning due to the offices failure to recognize my appointment time on multiple occasions. The first time I visited the office, I was informed I needed to make an appointment to be seen and that they were not able to give me an eye exam – despite the office being empty and it was still an hour until closing. For my following visits, I made appointments to be seen by the optometrist only to wait an extra 15 to 30 minutes because the previous appointment ran over or they accepted a walk-​in just before my appointment.

Love the doctors and the staff. Compelled to write a useful review for those of you who care to read. I know that when I read one, I want to get a sense of the reviewer, so here goes.
— Never wore glasses until I was 40, now 53
— Have visited probably six optometrists over the years — I move frequently
— I like one pair of glasses for everything and until this past visit always had those low profile rimless glasses
— I spend a lot of time in front of a computer
— I wear progressive lenses
I’ve had at least two of the other doctors in the past screw up my prescription — so strong they made me dizzy so I was a bit concerned about seeing yet another doctor.
South Coast IS GREAT
— Thorough pretesting after which I explained my past history with the docs and glasses.
— Dr. Poolsaad spend a great deal of time and recommended a coating to block some of the blue light due to the time I spend in front of the computer. Having worn these new glasses for two months I can tell you I’ve had so much less eye fatigue.
— Since a chose a larger frame, the doctor recommended that they alter the ‘standard” progressive lens to make it easier for me to work in front of the PC yet still see mid and far distance.
Everything has worked wonderfully. Never seen so crisply, without dizziness, from near to far.
OK, I spend longer at the office than anticipated, but that’s because everyone was so attentive and thorough. Bottom line — I would recommend these folks to anyone needing great service, smart docs and staff, and an excellent selection of glasses.

Doctors are great however front desk and technicians that assist in getting prescriptions to glasses are not of the caliber one would expect from this location. They missed my Transitions lens in the order process, so now I have to go back. You will need to follow up with them very closely, they do not call back. Get your prescriptions here then take them to an online vendor to save time and money.

I’m so happy to have come across Dr. Quon. The staff are friendly and accommodating and Dr. Quan was informative and provided a thorough and comprehensive exam. He also provided helpful education about eye health and it was evident that he cares about his patients. I highly recommend south coast optometry!

I was in the area for a wedding and had a major eye emergency. My eyes were in so much pain but luckily I contacted South Coast Optometry and spoke to Dr. Aaronshawn Poolsaad. He added me in his schedule right away so I was very thankful for that. He was very professional, knowledgeable and thorough with the examination. I loved how he explained everything to me and it actually made me feel better since I thought I was going to lose my vision. He even contacted me the next day to see how I was doing. If I lived in that area I would definitely keep him as my optometrist. I highly recommend him!

Me and my husband just left ‘Dr. Quon’s office and we had such a wonderful experience. He is extremely knowledgeable and answers all of your questions and his staff makes sure that you leave there with the right pair of glasses and they explain all of the cost to you! I have been a patient of Dr. Quon’s for many years and I wouldn’t trust my eyes or my husbands eyes with any other doctor but him! He is the best!

I’ve been here twice in a month; the first time was during Thanksgiving week because I had some messed up gross ‘blood eye’ thing. I didn’t have an appointment, but they squeezed me in before the holiday, and I am eternally grateful. It was this flexibility and the overall experience I had, that brought me back last week to have the most comprehensive eye exam I have ever had.
Also, Dr. Poolsaad’s professionalism mixed with his friendliness and the fact that he point blank asked me to return once ‘blood eye’ cleared up to have a much needed eye exam (first one in over 30 years).
The office staff is friendly? There are a lot of modern hi-​tech gadgets for your eyes. After taking some eye tests, I met with Dr. Poolsaad, the newest addition to the practice for some more of the examination.
The front office has a lot of inventory for frames by lots of designers, even Maui Jim and Tom Ford.
There are two doctors at this location, Dr. Quon and Poolsaad, so you’re in good hands no matter who you get.
Turns out I don’t quite yet need glasses, but that day will come probably next year, or by the time I’m 50. I’ve already lost most of my hair and waistline (it’s hiding somewhere in all of that fat), so eyesight is probably next.
For my money, South Coast Optometry was a great find!

I drove from AZ to get my son, who is colorblind, corrective lenses. To deal with the most unprofessional staff. The lady doing the enchroma fitting was rude and had it not of been for the fact that they were the closest option I had I would never go there. I paid a very high price for the lenses and they couldn’t even ship to me for free… rediculous. The only nice thing is the enchroma gem lenses help my son see color. She needs to be trained on customer service and the receptionist is just as bad. They had me their waiting for 3.5 hours while they were chatting about their personal lives in front of customers. Inconsiderate ignorant people.

Dr. Quon has taken care of our families vision/​medical for almost a decade. He has the highest qualifications and state of the art equipment of any optometrist that we have ever experienced. His mannorism is polite and professional. He has made challenges that our son has faced with his eyes look easy as well as affordable. His staff is top notch with customer service only available from employees that are happy.
We feel privileged to have him as our Dr. and reccomend him highly.

I hadn’t had my eyes checked in 10 years and had needed glasses for all of those 10 years. I finally got vision insurance at my job and well South Coast was part of the insurance. Dr. Quan was very helpful in the knowledge of my eyes and some of the disorders I had.
The staff was very helpful and not pushy at all in the price of my choice of glasses. The paperwork went smooth since it was all electronic and the young woman who helped me with my exams was very patience and knowledgeable as well.
I would recommend this eye doctor to any of my family or friends!

Dr. Quon is without question the best of the best. With Dr. Quon it’s never the same old/​same old because he is constantly advancing his professional education and staying current with new technology. Most importantly, Dr. Quon takes the time and the effort to provide his patients with what they truly need both for the short and long term.
Everyone in his office is equally amazing. From the moment that you walk in they make you feel like you’re their most important patient. Knowledgeable, personable and efficient pretty much sums up the team’s profile.
It’s no wonder why they have so many long-​term clients and I’m so glad to be one of them.

I have been going to LensCrafters for years for my glasses. I thought I would give another place a chance. The first round of getting my glasses here didn’t work so well; I use progressive lenses and the distance was blurry. I was also disappointed in the frames (which was my fault, I picked them out). Dr. Quon did the entire eye exam all over again and we found new frames. They did not charge me again. I was very relieved as, even with vision benefits, the glasses were several hundred dollars.
One thing about this office I want to mention is that most of the frames you can try on are behind locked cabinets, so someone has to be with you while you’re trying them on. They patiently do that, but just FYI. I would definitely recommend Dr. Quon. He changed what could have been a very disappointing experience with an attitude of wanting to get things right. These days few businesses seem to have this characteristic, and I appreciated it very much.

Dr Quon and all of his staff have always been the best! They are always very helpful and super nice.
Dr Quon takes his time to go over any and all issues and questions that I have at every visit.

Dr. Quan is one of the best optometrists I have ever been to. The eye exam was comprehensive. He spent nearly 45 minutes explaining everything to me and establishing a plan.
His team followed up with me when my glasses and contacts were ready. They even followed up a couple of weeks later to see how my prescription was working out for me. I’m impressed!

I haven’t even stepped foot in this business but I would never dream of it considering how rude the person was who answered the phone. The simply inquiry: «What is the price of a glasses and contact exam» seemed to send her into an argumentive mode.

Let me preface this review by saying I was a patient of Dr. Quon for almost 20 years and I searched for an alternative in 2010 and couldn’t be happier. Dr. Quon may seem personable and someone who actually cares about the quality of service that is delivered by himself and his office staff but from my experiences that is extremely far from the truth.
His rates are ridiculous as many of the other reviewers notated. Also there are options with various vision insurance coverages that do allow for contacts as an example to be covered in cost completely if you meet certain criteria. Dr. Quon obviously never brought that to my attention and I only found that out after leaving. He certainly isn’t looking into your best interests when he charges you when he has other more cost saving options when applicable.
The funny thing is those rates don’t give you any form of tangible or intangible premiums. Service is always extremely slow and not always professional. As an example, when they called to let me know that my contacts were ready, I came to get them and not until I opened them did I realize that one of them were missing. This happened twice sequentially because they did not check to see if the contacts were even there. It affected me since I travel often for business and scheduling an appointment to come in to be stuck in a long wait and then find out later your contacts aren’t even there because no one bothered to actually check is unacceptable. The fact that it happened again on the same set that was missing right after is just shameful.
I can see how people think Dr. Quon is a down to earth doctor who’s looking out for your interests, but again the experiences that I accumulated over the years finally made me realize what a poor business and self serving environment his office is. Change was extremely difficult, I wouldn’t have stayed so long with him otherwise since I kept forgiving or tolerating the poor service and high rates. But now that I’ve left and found an excellent alternative, I felt compelled to write a review so others know there are excellent alternatives that have your interests in mind, won’t nickel and dime you, or try to sell you the latest technology for his benefit. It’s clear that Dr. Quon fits the mold of a salesman who in the end cares about his bottom line more than his patients.
