Dairy Queen

Accidentally got a brownie chocolate chip cookie dough blizzard once… Have returned MANY times because it is SO. DARN. GOOD. I don’t think it really matters which Dairy Queen you drive through/​walk up to. But this one is preeetttyyy good!

Every time I go through this Dairy Queen’s drive thru, I by accidentally drive past speaker where you order, then I get to the pickup window and have to tell the cashier that I had a brain fart and forgot to place my order (herp derp).
«Hi! Can I have a dipped cone please?»
«Uh. That will be $ 4.65…oh. This is the pickup window. You were supposed to order back there.»
Cue socially awkward slump in seat.
I’ve never had the food here, but the soft serve, Blizzards, and frozen novelties, etc. are good and pretty similar to other Dairy Queens (read: awww yissss). I love the creamy vanilla synthetically-​fake soft serve taste of DQ.

Maybe Dairy Queen reads Unilocal reviews, because my joking note about moody teenagers taking our order has been taken seriously! Now when we pull up, a very friendly and enthusiastic guy takes our order. He’s always very happy, which is great! As if I wasn’t already excited about my delicious treat that’s on its way, he really makes the experience even better. This is the best DQ in the area, in my opinion. Clearly, as I keep coming back multiple times a week! I hope they keep up the great work.

My first stop in Columbus was Dairy Queen. I was not sure what to expect as I’m not normally a fan of smaller Dairy Queen stores. I was pleasantly surprised. This store had their act together and had all of the special blizzards for the «faniversary». I ordered my favorite, a small peanut butter cookie dough smash blizzard without cookie dough and chocolate. We used the drive through and they promptly served us the correct blizzard I had ordered. They did not screw anything up even though I had asked to hold two ingredients. The lady serving it flipped the blizzard upside down as they promise on TV. The blizzard was so delicious! The peanut butter sauce had a big presence and there were so many peanut butter cookies. I got one large chunk per soon. The consistency was perfect and never came close to melting. The price was super reasonable around $ 3.50. The size of the small cup looked more like a medium compared to all the other dairy queens I have been to. I highly recommend them and would go back in a heartbeat next time I’m in Columbus.

Their best flavor yet! Peanut butter Cookie dough blizzard of the month! Wish they would keep it around all year long. I did drive thru here, the staff were very friendly, they made the blizzard very thick and the woman by the window even turned it upside down to show how thick it was. It had lots of cookie pieces and was absolutely delicious. Thanks Dairy Queen for all the calories.

Why would someone give a five star rating (the kind reserved for high end steak restaurants or cutting edge heart hospitals) to a chain soft serve ice cream place? One that has a walk up window, a drive thru, and no dining room? Because this place embodies small town Americana, and if you can’t appreciate that, you’d best move to a Soviet bloc nation state.
This location has ice cream and greasy spoon fast food. It used to be called a Dairy Queen Brazier, with «brazier» denoting the existence of a grill and fryer, presumably. Chicken finger baskets, fries, burgers, hot dogs with chili… pretty standard summer restaurant fare. But wait, this place is open year round! That’s right. It was –1 last night with a wind chill hovering around –20, but this hardy place withstood the elements, common sense, and expectations to serve me a large vanilla cone with krunch kote.
Possibly a side note for my ranking… I was involved in my first car accident pulling out of the drive thru here. In the mid 1970s, my brother sideswiped a parked car while turning out onto 5^th Avenue driving my mom’s aircraft carrier sized Chrysler Satellite wagon. We parked and waited for the owner to return so we could arrange to pay for the damage. Eventually a drunk stumbled from a nearby watering hole, surveyed the minor damage, pronounced it was OK, and scarily drove off. (This being the Carter era, drinking and driving had seemingly not risen to the level of concern it now rightly occupies.) My relieved brother and I returned to DQ to secure bonus cones to fête our good fortune.
If you see an open DQ, especially this one, pull in and have a dilly bar, a peanut buster parfait, an arctic breeze, a chocolate dipped cone, or even pick up a pricey ice cream cake for your family. That soft serve ice cream shall not perish from the earth…

This Dairy Queen is old, kinda run down, has no indoor seating, and the drive-​thru line is generally 5~10 cars deep. Despite these shortcomings, I much prefer this location over the Dairy Queen off of Bethel Rd. First, the staff here are much more competent and they’re all pretty friendly. Second, they accept Dairy Queen coupons. (The one off of Bethel will refuse to take coupons) Third, they give my dogs treats whenever I have my dogs in my car while going through their drive-​thru. If you’re in the mood for a DQ Blizzard, I would recommend this location.

This location has upped its game by putting more mix in ingredients in their blizzards and more hot fudge in their peanut buster parfaits (in our last few visits). We liked them too much before. This could be dangerous!

This DQ is on par with any other walk-​up window style ice cream joint I’ve been to. It’s nothing fancy but it’s fast, easy, and cheap for those hot nights when you really wish you had a blizzard. Can’t say I’ve ever had the actual food, but the staff is friendly and the ice cream comes out quick.

Ordered fish sandwich, fries and Reese cup Blizzard. Got old, hard hockey puck of a sandwich, completely smooshed and sad-​looking and stale-​tasting Snickers blizzard. Wrote to corporate headquarters to complain, and they said that they forwarded my comments to this Dairy Queen, but this location never contacted me or did anything to make up for the disgusting meal. I’d rather go somewhere where they care about the quality of the food they make and taking care of customers who take the time to let them know when service doesn’t meet their expectations.

This location is just so-​so. It’s really convenient to bf’s house (which is also a somewhat dangerous proximity). We typically walk here right before close when it’s now-​or-​never for ice cream time.
I don’t get any food here, only the treats. Blizzards seem to be lacking on their mix-​in amounts lately, which is probably a corporate thing and not the fault of this location. They also never seem to have any good «Blizzard of the Month» special flavors like other places do. I do love that they offer Mini Blizzards now — just the right size when you want a little something.
I tried to get a special order here a couple of times — the first time it was amazing but the second time I think I really confused the boy behind the window and I ended up with an almost-​version of what I wanted. Guess I gotta stick to the menu.
This location is A-​OK as far as Dairy Queens go.

Dairy Queen and me go way back. Growing up in rural Indiana, our town only had 3 places to eat: DQ, McDonalds & Pizza Hut. Not much going on there.
DQ was the closest to me of the 3 and being how my mom didn’t cook much, I often opted to head to DQ to pick up some grub.
Once I got into High School, several ladies who all had massive crushes on me worked at the local Dairy Queen. I leveraged that to get all kinds of free ice cream, fries & food.
The food is just as you’d expect it. The ice cream is too.
And I hope it never changes.

Dairy Queen is a bit of comfort food for me. My husband and I love the frozen hot chocolate and the blizzards. My secret, as a serious chocolate lover, is to always ask for my blizzard of choice with chocolate soft-​serve. Since not all DQs carry the chocolate, I am extremely fond of the ones who do, like this location. We’ve always received helpful and friendly service here, even when the lines of cars and people are around the corners of the building, so between the service and the chocolate soft-​serve, this one is a winner.

Soft serve ice cream? Take me to DQ. I only eat vanilla soft serve cones from Dairy Queen so that’s all I can review. I’m pretty sure their ice cream is made from a pre-​mixed bag but dang… I love it.

No matter where I go in life, Dairy Queen will always hold a soft spot in my heart reserved just for soft serve. Where ever I’ve lived there’s always been a DQ within walking (or at least short driving) distance. There’s nothing more Americana to me than walking to a DQ at dusk during the summer while cicadas chirp and neighborhood kids ride by on their bikes. I don’t think you’ll quite get that experience at this DQ location, but you get the general idea.
This particular 5^th Avenue location has a drive thru and a walk-​up window, but no seating inside. It’s large enough to provide not only all things delicious and soft serve, but also surprisingly tasty burgers, chicken fingers, and fries. I will contend that Dairy Queen has some of the best fast food fries I have ever tasted.
Little known fact, Dairy Queen has a «secret menu» like that famous burger place out west (anyone able to get me a complete list of Dairy Queen Secret Menu Items will be my hero). Order a Frozen Hot Chocolate sometime, it’s divine.
