Magnuson Hotel Clearwater Beach

Expected a little better based on a 3 star hotel. Fine if you’re a single person looking for a place to sleep for a night or two. I wouldn’t recommend it for families though. Some of the clientele on the «city» facing side was pretty sketchy. Room was dated and in need of a remodel. Location is nice.

Good service, perfect location — but it was really run down. Beds were small, double size, but slept okay on it. If you’re coming here just to sleep then it’s fine. If you plan on spending a lot of time at the hotel, go elsewhere. Safe location.

Had an emergency and had to go to Clearwater fast. Stayed at Magnuson hotel not bad except no TV or cable for 3 out of 4 days and no hot water for shower also 3 out of 4 days. I complained every day by phone and at desk but nothing helped other than «we know there is a problem with the water». The room was clean and they had a decent breakfast.

Don’t waste your money here. The staff people were rude and they are not friendly. They also do not clean the carpet or the furniture so when I got there, the floor was sticky and there was dust all over the table. Also the wifi really sucks and either the fan didn’t work or there was no fan at all in the bathroom. The bathroom was very crowded and the shower was hard to turn on. The sinks are really low and the strainer in the sink is annoying.
Despite the problems with the hotel, I did find it very convenient that it was close to the beach.

Definitely a roach motel! We had small roaches crawling all over the tables, bathroom, sink area and night stand. Bring your own toiletries the soap and shampoo will leave you feeling like sandpaper.

The staff, Kathy in particular made this experience unforgettable !
The hotel is located in a great area, walking distance to everything and right across from the beach. I showed up a few hours before check in and asked if there was any room available early as my hubby was horribly sick, Kathy found us a wonderful gulf view room for my birthday ! What a great room, very clean and the beds were so comfortable !
I will definately stay here again when we come back to Clearwater !!

We stayed here for one night on our way to Sanibel, FL. This is a fantastic small hotel. They are remodeling rooms, we had a large room, new linens, new carpet, front desk service was excellent. Great location to the beach and boardwalk. A great deal !

Not fancy but spacious, clean, friendly with powerful hot water and a min walk from the beach. You can hear people outside our beach view but other than that I have zero complaints.

White sand yeah! The hotel is very old, but will do the job if you are there for the beaches. Easy walk to the beach and food. Don’t count on much for breakfast as it is pretty simple fare. Some hostess donuts and coffee is pretty much it. The staff were very friendly and helped us out with finding places to eat while I was there. There are many fancier places, but they cost way more. You won’t be disappointed with this place.

Ok this is not a 5 star hotel so the expectations have to be low, but overall I was very pleased with my stay.
The building is rather old and needs some improvements, but its very well kept and very clean, and the staff is very helpful and nice. But the best thing is the location, its right in front of the beach with very nice views (amazing sunsets by the way!) but make sure to get one of the rooms in the 4^th floor with a gulf view (417 – 422), they are more expensive but its worth it, and there’s not a cheaper room in Clearwater Beach with that kind of view.
The wifi works very well, the parking is free, and there’s an ice cream place in the first floor right outside of the hotel. The mattresses are not the best ones but I slept very well, so no complain.
If you’re not expecting a 5 star hotel, and realize that is an old hotel, well kept but basic, and you get the gulf view 4^th floor rooms, you won’t be disappointed.

I was looking for a budget hotel and I found it. Pros: Convenient location, right across the street from the beach, nice pool, comfortable bed, coffee maker, microwave, fridge and toaster in room, real dishes and silverware in the cabinet, iron/​ironing board, TV, radio. They sell microwave popcorn for $ 1 as well as candy, water, soda and suntan lotion behind the desk. There are soda machines in various locations. The parking is free! There is a collection of novels in the lobby but some were in foreign languages – donations from guests maybe? Cons: thin towels, cheap toiletries, elevator that smelled faintly like cigarettes (!), the shower was on the weak side. They have free breakfast (not really a con, but not a pro either) consisting of Walmart granola bars and instant oatmeal (but no milk for the oatmeal – only the powdered stuff), packaged muffins, powdered donuts and pastries, individual cups of applesauce, white & wheat bread to make toast, tea/​coffee and juice. It’s better than nothing. I ate breakfast there once – toast, coffee and a granola bar. The other mornings I ventured out for breakfast. I don’t want to sound like some of the other reviewers who said this place sucks. It doesn’t. Basically it’s like they say – you get what you pay for. I really didn’t mind staying here. Maybe the other reviewers are picky.
I did like the fact that there are chairs and a small table outside each room along the walkway. I enjoyed sitting outside at various times of the day and even late night when I couldn’t sleep.

Ok so this place is not a fancy hotel and the night staff could use a class In customer service, however the location is superb, the maid service awesome and the pool is kept very well. The furniture is out dated and in need of a make over but all, in working order. I’ve been here through the years under different owners and I will come back.

This place is a dump. The staff were not friendly and the place was very outdated.
Thankfully, we had to painfully stay there for only two nights.

* Front doors didn’t close, so whenever people could come back to their rooms you heard them slam the door… sometimes in the middle of the night.

* Getting to the beach is inconvenient. you need to walk around the building
* Continental breakfast sucked… there wasn’t one!
* No coffee pots in the rooms
* Towel rack in the room was missing, but the holes were in the wall where it used to be
* Maid service leaves a note to leave them a tip
* Wifi didn’t work
* Wouldn’t be surprised if the place had bedbugs… so gross.
Do yourself a favor and spend $ 50 more for the Holiday Inn down the street. This place should be super cheap!

This has to be the single worst hotel I’ve ever stayed at in my entire life. The staff was rude, the entire place felt damp inside, and it reeked of pot all day long. I got a knock on the door watching tv too loud and informed it was a family establishment as the pot smoke blew in the breeze from down the hall. The night attendant was a super mean and rude woman to me and the other guests.
NEVER stay here. I’ve stayed next door at the travel lodge for the same price and the facilities, staff, and overall cleanliness was 10 000 times better. Wound up leaving here it was just too much to bear and getting a more expensive room at the Quality Inn.
Don’t waste your money. Id rather sleep on the street.

The location is fantastic — it’s next to restaurants and across the street from the beach. You can get pretty cheap rooms online, but those rooms are kind of scary. The only really good rooms are the ones facing the beach, with the balconies. I wouldn’t suggest staying here unless you’re getting one of those front rooms.

Hotel has 4 floors. Has rooms with connecting doors for people traveling with others. Rooms with frig or kitchenette.
Continental breakfast is a joke! Juice, Little Debbie snacks, and bread to make toast.
Had an issue with the refrigerator in our room. The frig was replaced within 20 minutes.
Close to restaurants and other hotels. Restaurants deliver to the hotel.
