Amber Tides Motel

My husband and I stayed here the end of February and were very happy with it. It is a MOTEL for those who were disappointed with not having all the amenities of a hotel, so expectations need to be adjusted. Our room was clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. We arrived late the first night and were advised to call when we got into the airport for directions on how to get in, since there is not around the clock staff. Got very clear directions and help finding something to eat at the late hour since we hadn’t eaten since much earlier in the day due to traveling. We would definitely stay there again!

Driving up to the place, it didn’t look so good — they could use some better signage here. But the place itself has a cool kind of 60s beach motel feel to it. They have two little pools surrounded by palm trees. The one that they heat up to 94 degrees felt really comfortable.
The room had two queens, beds made a ton of noise but were comfortable enough. There is a small bathroom, and a kitchen area, which did have a full-​size fridge.
It is more limited-​service than a bigger hotel, just a guy working in a small office at certain hours. No regular maid service, but you can put your towels outside of the door to be replaced. So to check out, I just left the keys in the room and left a message on their voicemail.
Overall, three stars seems to fit this place. Cheaper than the bigger hotels on the island and in a good location. I would stay here again.

I stayed in Clearwater for a work conference this past July for 4 days and 3 nights — enough time to be concerned when work couldn’t get me into the conference hotel, and into one off the main drag. That said: for all of the lack of info I could find about this place, I would be seriously remiss if I didn’t write a good review of the joint.
First off: these one star review leaving people are a bunch of primadonnas who love to stay at stupid chain hotels. Live a little, people. Stay in a non-​chain place and support TRULY local business.
The hotel is older, yeah — but who cares? If you’re somewhere like Clearwater, you ought to only be in your room to sleep. And as has been noted, this hotel is a 5 minute walk from the beach, tops. And it’s quiet at night due to that little bit of distance. Uploaded a ton of photos that speak for themselves, but really, I was 100% satisfied with this place.
Can’t speak to the maid service complaint in one of those reviews. Because, ya know, I’m an adult that doesn’t need somebody to come make my bed for me every day. :)

The room and motel was a lot better than we expected. EXCEPT maid service is HORRIBLE. We asked the maid to change our sheets bc we spilt something on it and when we got back to the room it looked like the room was cleaned however, the sheets were simply turned upside down to hide the stain. Yuck!

The room had a mini fridge coffee maker and microwave. The bathroom was small. The pool is nice and there is a shower so that’s awesome. There is only one person working at the desk his names joe. He’s nice. You must be 21+ to check in. My bf was checking in n he asked how old I was and I said 20 then he made a face like «fine I’ll let you stay here». The rooms were close to the parking spaces. It’s a 5 minute walk to the beach. Last time I was at Clearwater I stayed at quality for $ 240/​night and had to walk 10mins so for $ 84/​night I’d stay here again. Except careful with your sand because they don’t clean while your there. I usually come back to a hotel and find the bed made and such but not here so there was sand in my bed which is not cool. Since the room is small it cools really fast so that’s nice. I could hear everything outside so that’s why there’s «quiet time» from 10pm-​8am
ALSO IMPORTANT** the office opens at 9am and check out is at 10am so u have an hour of checkout time. This really Messed up my plans because I wanted to leave at 7am. But I didn’t know so ask if it’s possible to do early check out if u need because you use a key instead of a card which u must return. Also the wifi didn’t work from room 5. Id stay here again I’d suppose

Our stay at Amber Tides over Memorial Day weekend was a good news/​bad news situation. We (My husband, our one year old, and myself) stayed in Room 10, which is just a room – no kitchenette.
The good news:
The manager was very friendly and accommodating to all of our requests, eg. extra towels, fork and knife, beach towels.
The pool area is lovely. I loved that the pool was large enough to do lap swimming, and that there was a shower. Loved the chairs/​lounges/​tables around the pool.
We loved having the large (dorm-​sized) refrigerator in our room.
The parking was convenient. We always had a spot, even over the crazy busy weekend, and it was literally steps from the door to our room.
We loved that the motel was close to the main drag with restaurants and a few beach shops.
Free wi-​fi!
The bad news:
The room was NOT CLEAN. I made the mistake of letting my one year old crawl on the floor the first day we arrived. After only a few minutes of that, his feet were black.
I found a press-​on nail tip in the corner of the room, by the night stand next to the bathroom.
I did not look too closely in the closet, but I know it was pretty disgusting, too. At least the closet is extra large… which actually meant that the playpen was blocking the door.
It appears that the cleaning staff does the *bare minimum* of cleaning. Do they EVER mop the floors, or just do a quick swipe with a broom? (Yes that is a rhetorical question.)
There were ants in the bathroom our entire visit, mostly on the bathroom sink. They also got into the medicine cabinet.
The «crib» that we borrowed from the motel was a musty, water stained, broken «pack and play.» One side did not fully extend. There were brown spots all over it. I don’t expect a brand new, expensive crib or play yard. But if you are going to inform your guests that you offer a «crib» free of charge, at least let them know up front 1) it is a play yard/​«Pack & Play» and NOT a crib 2) it is not in the best shape. If I had known that was the condition of bed my son would be using all weekend, I would have paid the money to rent one from a consignment shop. At least that would have been in good shape (based on my previous experience renting from a Tampa-​area consignment shop).
Every time I saw the manager outside, he was smoking. This included while he was sitting by the pool. This does not make for a pleasant experience for my family.
A couple arrived late morning or early afternoon to check in. There was a sign on the office door that said the manager was out, but to call a phone # to check in. The couple asked me (I was at the pool, right next to the office) if I had seen the manager. They told me they had called that number on the office door, but there was no response, not even voice mail. Wow, if that had happened when *I* had arrived to check in, I would have been FURIOUS.
In summary, my impression of Amber Tides: this is a cute, 1950s style motel that was priced low and had a great location. But I would NEVER stay there again.
