Gulf Beach Inn

A nice, friendly inn, very clean and a great change of pace from the big chains. From the warm welcome to the cozy room, I enjoyed my stay. Though located on a busy street with a fair amount of traffic noise, the location is terrific with respect to the beach and restaurants. Also, a nice patio with pool and plenty of chaise lounges, tables and chairs, and a grill for guests to use. If I find myself in Clearwater Beach again, this is where I’ll stay. Excellent customer service and a well-​cared for property are definitely worth a repeat visit!

Amazing what 6 months makes! Since late last year, the Gulf Beach Inn is pleasantly under new management. The new staff members are very personable, extremely helpful, responsive (via email and onsite) and more professional than ever.
For first-​timers, you have to realize this isn’t the Hyatt Regency. It’s not low class… it’s just a typical, small beach town hotel, probably built in the 1970s. It’s not going to be perfect. But I guarantee if you have any issues at all the staff will be responsive and do what they can to accommodate your reasonable request. If the water pressure is low, tell them. If there is something that needs to be addressed, tell them. I know they would want to know and help where they can.
I’ve stayed here 3x over the last 2 years. It’s always been very clean, which is my first requirement. They may not shape my towels into swans, but Housekeeping is very efficient in their shifts, and very hospitable. The grounds and pool are extremely clean as well. Each evening after the pool closes, the staff straightens pool chairs, tables and cleans up the area in preparation for the next day. A sign that they care about their property and their guests.
The biggest, and most appreciative change is the office hours which (I believe) are morning to midnight. Previously, the office only opened at check-​out time, then at 3pm. Very inconvenient for travelers who may get into town prior to 3pm. Even if my room wasn’t ready, they staff always allowed me to store my bags in the office until the room was ready. My last stay, my room was ready a little before 3pm — and that was during Spring Break.
I recommend the Gulf Beach Inn to couples, families or groups of friends. It’s an easy walk to the beach and to the shops near the Pier. Do your homework. Know the amenities and realize it’s an older hotel. But with clean rooms and friendly staff, it’s a Clearwater Beach best kept secret.

Definitely the worst hotel that I have ever stayed in. Rat hole. Clerk/​owner that goes by the name of Frank is über rude. Room was not ready for check in at 4 and he told me that check in is when room is ready. Door lock was broken. Parking is laughable. You have to park on thee grass in between the hotel and to go over the curbs, they placed a board. AC did not work and there was no phone in the room and there were holes in towels and curtains. This hotel is bad news and I wish I can give it a zero. Avoid this dump.

I stayed at this hotel this past weekend with my girlfriend to attend a wedding. Let me start by saying that I agree with everything said in the other review left in regard to this hotel (however, they no longer charge a parking fee). It was by far the worst hotel experience I have ever had and I have stayed in A LOT of hotels over the years.
As the previous reviewer mentioned, the hotel room was a complete dump. The carpets were stained, the curtains had holes in them and the blanket had what looked to be a fairly fresh blood stain on it (no way of knowing when the last time was that it had actually been washed). Which leads me to my next subject, maid service only comes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. So if you plan on staying for a three night weekend (i.e., check in on Friday, check out on Monday), make sure to bring your own towels. I say this because you will only be provided with two bath towels and four hand towels over the course of those three days. Throughout Saturday and Sunday I asked the on-​site manager (when I was able to get a hold of him because the office is closed for the majority of the time) for additional towels a total of six times. I was given the run-​around and finally told on Sunday afternoon that would not be able to provide any additional towels. It wasn’t until after my girlfriend called the office to complain while threatening to leave reviews such as this one that they miraculously «came across» two additional bath towels.
Other mentions: The TV in the room is from the last century; If you upgrade to the efficiency unit (includes microwave, fridge and kitchenette), make sure to bring your own plates and utensils as none will be provided; Given the condition of the bedware, I would suggest (at a minimum) to bring your own blanket; Wireless internet w NOT available .
As you will see when doing a cost comparison, this hotel is cheaper than others in the area. However, trust me when I say that you will not regret spending the additional funds needed to book elsewhere. Thanks for reading.

the only reason I gave it 2 stars is because it’s cheap and it’s convenient across the beach. With that said, I will never stay here again. The place is really that close to being a dump. I did not expect much for a $ 100 a night stay during a holiday but also was not happy to see an actual roach pop out near the shower!
Also WiFi only available apparently if you sit at the pool. They do charge you for parking at almost $ 3 a day. And the on-​site manager failed to put the complete dates of our stay on a «parking pass» piece of paper given to us, so we got a parking ticket the morning after our first night. Granted, we got a «refund» for the $ 11 charged for the parking, but we may end up paying the ticket if we cannot fight it with the issuing agency. And the on-​site manager did his best to avoid acknowledging HE made the mistake of not putting on the correct dates on the pass! Nice avoidance. I guess he won’t tell the owners what happened, b/​c this $ 25 fee would obviously come out of his pocket, so he is definitively not offering to pay it, he just does not want to explain that to the owners! DO YOUR JOB!
NOTE: Do not accept room# 2. You will get a load of people knocking on the door, because the sign still points to this room being the «Office», and it is on the sidewalk level, so you get all the noise, all the drunken noise and all the pedestrian noise. TV in the room, but no remote.
BED/​BEDDING: Horrid: the bed sheets are so old, I can actually see thru the corner of it. They feel more like a shower curtain liner. Room was atrocious. The configuration of the bathroom was so ridiculous that once you turn the shower on, it pretty much pushes the curtain off. The shower is pointing to the toilet and its a sorts of stall so the water shoots out thus inundated the bathroom floor. Bathroom has no AC vent, so it doubles as sauna.
The management is harder to get a hold of. You probably have better luck trying to contact the Pres. Their hours are until 6 PM, but they tends to go out and lock the door (Yes, even during checkout time of 11am!) and you just have to figure it out on your own most of the time.
