VIP Nails and Spa

My visit to VIP yesterday was a joke!
Angie, the lady who started my pedicure was unfriendly and rude. She started my pedicure and when another customer came in, Angie got up and said in her language that somebody else needed to do my nails because the other customer was going to spend more! She didn’t say one word to me. So I sat there with my feet in the water trying to figure out who was going to do my pedicure. The kicker was I couldn’t just leave because my friend was right next to me getting her pedicure done.
Then some guy comes over, and I asked him if he was going to do my pedicure. Yup… I got the inexperienced guy. In the end, he did okay.
So here’s some advice to the people who work there: You should never talk about people in front of them. It’s just plain rude. Also you should never assume that others don’t understand you. My father speaks six languages fluently, so I grew up understanding three. So as the song goes… Do-Re-Mi-Fa-So…Do Ma Me! :)

If zero stars were an option I would select that.
Service: Rushed! I walk in and there are four employees sitting around on their phones and tablets doing nothing while one gentleman was working. My pedicure was the most rushed service I’ve ever gotten. I was appalled at how rushed the lady did everything and nobody was waiting nor was it close to closing time. I came to get a pedicure after an incredibly stressful weekend and my entire service was less than 20 minutes long. Everything she did was very rough and far from gentle– it was very unpleasant. She didn’t even wait a split second for each layer or polish to dry! This pedi won’t last very long because of that.
Also my friend bumped her toes before leaving and they yelled at her! What the heck? It’s not our fault you applied all of the layers before the previous ones had dried. You should never bark at a customer like that in the first place. Goodness.
Billing: they are very deceitful with payment. They charge an extra to use a card and don’t accept tips other than cash. I was still going to tip the lady but I don’t carry cash. Your loss. Also, it’s dishonest to cover your sign that says there is additional charge for paying with card. This is 2016, everybody uses cards.
I was very disappointed and will not be going back.

I miss Hannah. But Cindy is definitely the best one to do French gel manicures ever since Hannah left. Today I should have asked for Cindy for my French gel manicure. The one who did my nails came in smelling like cigarettes. She was nice but when it came to my French gel manicure it was frustrating because she couldn’t curve them evenly and it was kind of back and forth. She said I was picky, I’m not picky because when Cindy did mine I never said anything it was perfect I didn’t have to ask her to clean it up or whatever. And then when I told her it was rigid she said she didn’t see anything and I’m pretty sure she got frustrated too because she began to dig her nails harder into mine when cleaning the sides next time I need to go to Cindy for everything. The lady who did my French predicate did a great job.

Kinda bummed, went today with my mom as a pre Mother’s Day gift. Both of us got a full set of acrylics done and neither one of us were happy. Her nails were grinders so thin they hit skin and as you can imagine that’s pretty painful. Mine were just sloppily done almost like the man was rushing through the motions. The only reason I’m not giving 1 star is because the receptionist was the sweetest lady ever. Overall we ended up paying $ 78 for nails that were advertised as $ 26 each. I just got these nails today and I’m probably getting them removed tomorrow purely based on how thick and uncomfortable they are, the spotty painting and the fact that the acrylic goes onto my skin are just bonus points.

First time in any salon to get my pedicure in Chula since we moved in last week. Angie was great and friendly. I did not get the lady’s name for my wax but she was so nice too!
When I went to pay I totally forgot to tell the guy I also got my upper lip waxed. Embarrassing! Thanks for reminding me Angie. I felt so bad!
The only downside I don’t like is that while watching, they do both manicure and pedicure at the same time. I’ve done that before when I lived in Vacaville and didn’t like that experience. I know it’s to «kill two birds with one stone» but it’s not relaxing when you have to reach over for your nails to be done and hold the drying machine while getting your pedicure.
Overall great experience for me. I’ll be asking for Angie again next time I go. Thanks!

Great service even just upon arriving! They sat me in their chair and let my feet soak and attending to me while one of the other ladies finished up. I didn’t have to tell Cindy anything (she did my toes) she did a great job and took her time. I can’t remember the lady that did my nails but she did great as you can tell in my picture. I will come back here! Definitely try it out!

This has been my new go to nail place!, and I have been getting my manicures done with Janet ! She is my go-​to nail tech, very creative, and kind, she gets to know what you like and always leaves me with nails that I absolutely love, If you have a vision of what you want your nails to look like she makes it happen, Over all I’m glad to have found this place !

I have been here a few times and had great experiences. They have variety of pedi options with really cool-​and-​extraordinary stuff! If you hesitate, go for jelly aloe pedi! Amazing things they put on. Also, the gel manicure is very neat and perfect. It lasts me about 3 weeks. After all, i love this place.

I have been searching all over San Diego for a great nail salon & I have finally found it!!! I’ve been to PB, La Jolla, Point Loma. And no place can compare the VIP nails & spa!
Julie was my technician and she listened to what i wanted and took her time. I can see why people are lined up to see her. She made sure my nails were perfect before letting me leave and she did NOT try to up sell me. She was honest with the prices from the beginning.
I am writing this review 4 days after my appointment and my nails are still in perfect condition.
I live in Sunset Cliffs, but I am willing to drive down to Chula for this salon. They even accept card!

Were very happy. The whole family got their nails done. Even my husband who had long uneven nails. Reasonable price. They gave a discount because it was my daughters birthday. Will be coming. Nice area and plenty of parking. Friendly staff.

I waited to write this review the day after my services so that my anger won’t taint my thoughts on the actual work that was done.
Overall Experience: when I walked in they were empty so my mother and I were able to walk right in and be served, which was great. I showed the lady a picture of nail design that I wanted and she showed one of her nails techs that said he can recreate.
Luckily since they weren’t busy I was able to get my pedicure and toes done at the same time. I’m going to wrap this section up by saying my pedicure was great.
Customer service: I have never felt so uncomfortable while getting my nails done. The tech kept moving my hand insinuating I was holding them incorrectly (mind you I’ve been getting my nails done for years now… Not once have I had this problem). He asked me how I wanted my nails shaped i.e. Long or short. I told him I wanted long almond shaped nails. I move from the pedicure chair and sat at a station next to my mom. Her nail tech was a talker which is fine. But the things she was saying were so unnecessary and rude. While complimenting me on eyebrows she insulted my mother by saying I must get them from father. Clearly seeing that her comment vexed Both my mother and I she tried to clear her comment. Overall customer service was ⁵⁄₁₀ for various reasons I won’t drag out since I want to focus more time on the actual work.
Quality: He proceeded to shape my nails and I noticed him and the other techs kept mentioning coffin nails but I couldn’t grasp the context since they were speaking in their native language. He raised my hand to show me my nails and I said no sir I want almond shaped not square. FYI we had a whole conversation as to why I don’t like square nails. So once again I asked him when he’ll round the top out? He kept saying after…. Ok so I let him do his thing… Finally when he was done shaping them he showed me the final product. At this point I was pissed, my damn nails were still square! I called my mother back to his station to show him what the hell almond nails were. I told him that in the future when someone ask for a shape and you don’t know what they are ask! But this time I’ll deal with the square since I had already been there for an hour. His excuse was he thought I wanted them like the picture. I told him the DESIGN is what I wanted not the shape! I’ve told you repeatedly I don’t like square nails and I wanted them rounded out on top. which tells me he WASN’T listening to me at all. Once again was proven when he proceed to put more damn powder on my nails so that he can reshape them. I just told him to leave them! I didn’t want to spend another damn hour in the salon. Anyways he reshapes them to «almond» I use that term loosely because this horrible shape that he did was not in any coloring books or text books I’ve read.. Anyways at this point I don’t even care about the design I just want to leave I’m going on hour two and I’m about to lose my shit. So he paints my nails and and I smh knowing that I’m not even going to get the design I wanted. Whatever… The whole service for a bunch of shit I didn’t want was 66 bucks. Oh and by the way after washing and washing I still have acrylic powder all over my hands.
My suggestion to all potential customers… Don’t go to Vip nails! I surely won’t be returning.

I’m so happy! My first time in, and the service was amazing! The ladies here are so friendly, and had me in n out within 30 min or so. I will be returning for sure! Thank you so much!

I found this place on Unilocal.I called and asked if Hana was available. They said I could come in now and that’s exactly what I wanted, a NOW appt. I was the only customer because everyone probably got their nails done last week for Thanksgiving weekend. So before I sat down I asked the nail tech if she was Hana and she said, «No, Hana is not here.» Now, I didn’t ask if she’s just not here today or she is no longer working here. I was there so I said ok. The techs name is Angie. I asked for coffin shaped and she said that square or oval would look nice on me, but she did as I requested. She’s very friendly and she speaks enough English to keep a conversation so it was all in all a good experience. They also have a punch card that your 8^th visit you get a free paraffin treatment, callus treatment or 2 nail designs. Nice to have a little incentive.

I came because of reviews for hanna. I left dissappointed. She didnt even clean up my cuticles was saying my fingers are crocked. When they are not! There was no place to dry nails, left me in front of a tiny fan to dry nails. Some of my nails are uneven and still not straight. Would not recommend this place at all!
*update not even a full day has gone by and one of my nails already cracked.

I was a little hesitant to try this place out since there were a few bad reviews regarding the quality of work, but my gel manicure turned out great. I didn’t get her name, but the lady really took her time on my nails & the fact that the mani was $ 25 on promo made my experience even better. The regular price is $ 28 & is way cheaper than what I usually pay at chain salons for a plain gel manicure.

Staff are courteous, well trained, respectful, and able to effectively communicate.
The woman who greeted me at the front desk was very straight forward, she made sure we had clearly agreed on prices and services. She’s also friendly.
You know how a lot of nail salons everyone is chit chatting and as a client you feel lost? Not at all here. Everyone makes an effort to communicate in English.
The décor is a bit gaudy, but very clean and well maintained.
Music was actually soothing! A nice piano and instrumental playlist. I know that I’m getting old, but it was so nice not to hear aggravating pop or rap music.
There were a good number of older clientele, it is a place I’d happily take my mother or grand mother. An appropriate environment for any age.

$ 52 for gel manicure and regular pedicure. I am not satisfied with the gel manicure. As you can see in the picture, the quality is sub par.

The service was ok. It wasnt horrible, but it wasnt great either. I went here to get mani and pedi. They seem to be pretty good with walk-​ins. One of the things i didnt like is that, whenever there’s a lot of people coming in, they rush the job so that they could take in more customers. Rushing resulted to a not so good of a job. As a mechanic, my hands get really dirty especially underneath my nails. That was my main concern getting a manicure. Coming over here, i didnt really get the result i wanted. My nails are still dirty and the nail polish is of a poor quality. To summarize it, i wasnt really satisfied and i feel like i wasted my money. I could have probably gone to a better nail salon.
