Wonderful place to get your exam and glasses. The staff was very helpful and was able to get my fiancé his exam and glasses in shop. Total for the bill was $ 365. Amazed. Will be buying from them again.

5 years ago I searched for a week for a pair of glasses that I liked. I ended up at Smart Optical and found a pair. 2 years ago, I was looking for a new pair. I checked a few places and Smart Optical had the pair I liked the best. This year I didn’t waste my time and just went to Smart Optical.

This place was right around the corner from my old office. I was able to get an appointment after work and my contacts came within 2 days. I picked them up during my lunch break and put them in right away. It was such a relief to be able to see again! The doctor was nice and didn’t try to force me to buy any unnecessary products. Everything was done quickly and efficiently, which I like when I’m on a restricted schedule. Their prices are right and the service was great. I really had no problems with this place.

I went to Smart Optical in Lincoln Park because I needed a contacts exam done quickly and they were advertising a deal on Unilocal: $ 50 for $ 75 worth of services. After calling just about every optical place listed under my insurance provider(and realizing my insurance doesn’t cover much of the cost at all), they ended up charging the least for a basic contact lenses exam — $ 75. So I bought the deal as it was cheaper than insurance, made an appointment for the same day(on a Saturday too!) and everything went smooth as could be — didn’t have to wait long at all, the doctor(Dr. Wong, I believe) was super nice. I showed her my old prescription and said that I didn’t believe my eyesight had changed much in a year. She did a very thorough exam and agreed with me — same prescription. She asked if the Acuvue Oasys were still working for me, I said they were, and that was that. She didn’t try to convince me to switch to another brand or try anything else, which I appreciated. They didn’t even charge me tax on the exam, which meant the deal I bought completely covered everything! The one and only downside to the appointment was that she was going to give me a replacement of my contact solution, but unfortunately was out of the brand I use — but I won’t hold that against them since everything else was great! I highly recommend this place!

This is an awesome place to get your glasses and contact lenses done right. Kevin was super helpful, he truly listened to my specific needs for my eyeglasses, which I haven’t had any luck in other optical shops in my neighborhood, and he patiently picked out many different types of frames for me to try on until I picked one that fit me very well. I will stick to them from this point on because I know I’m in good hands.

I have bought my last four pairs of glasses at Smart Optical. They have always been high-quality, the staff has always been professional and friendly, and the prices are reasonable.

Great selection of fun, funky and inexpensive glasses and sunglasses. Fast service and thorough examination by what has to be one of the hottest doctors in the city! He might be my husband, but seriously, he’s the best in the business!

This little place is amazing! I had gone into Lens Crafters on Sunday and was treated so rudely by one of their salespeople and stormed out of there. While standing outside I noticed Smart Optical and went in to check it out. Long story short… I purchased new glasses, had my old ones made into sun glasses and it cost me ½ of what Lens Crafters wanted. Their selection is fantastic, lot’s of retro styles that I am a big fan of and the staff is just terrific. I took my husband there today and he got the glasses he has wanted for a long time and they were done in about 45 minutes. I cannot say enough about how great they are!

Changed my review after shopping at Spex on Broadway and Halsted. The staff are awesome and Dr. Carla is a true professional!

I had been dealing with the same pair of beat up, bent out of shape, not fitting any more glasses frames for about a year and a half and finally grew tired enough of them to get some new frames. The people at Smart Optical were very friendly and patient with me as they found me some new frames that would accomodate my existing lenses. They brought me four different frames that would fit the lenses, as I was being pretty picky about the color of my new frames. I finally settled on some new ones that fit well and looked pretty good on me. Best of all? 50% off of new frames the day I got them. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone in the market for new glasses rather than going to a LensCrafters or Pearle Vision. It’s a family owned business and they do business very well. Oh also, $ 29.99 right now for a glasses eye exam. Great deal.

I accidentally threw my glasses into Lake Michigan in June… Wait, before you get all judgmental and/or laugh at me, let me explain… !! A HUGE, and I mean, HUGE insect flew toward me and I was standing with a friend and fellow Unilocaler near the edge of the concrete platform dock you Chicagoans call a beach(sorry, I was on the defensive, you understand, don’t you?), and I panicked(I have a slight insectophobia, it’s a bit of a generalization due to my very real arachnophobia) and swatted in the general direction of the flying insect(which was near the front of my face) and off went my glasses that my dear aunt bought me in Paris slow-motion into Lake Michigan as I screamed, «NO!!!» Minutes later, my friend dove into the lake to try to retrieve it for me(what a good friend she is!) and a stranger also dove into the lake to try to retrieve it… My glasses couldn’t be found. So I called Smart Optical — I googled them based on a friend’s recommendation. They were open and I could go in without an appointment to see if I could get another pair of glasses. The doctor, I wish I remembered his name, was really, really nice. He explained everything that he was doing for my eye exam very thoroughly and he answered all of my questions about getting contacts. He taught me how to put the contacts on and was really gentle. He asked one of the store people to help me, and I thought she had a bit of an attitude. She seemed impatient and plus, I was scared of her long nails(she was trying to help me put my contacts into my eyes!). I politely told her that her long nails were making me nervous and she asked the doctor to help me by explaining«I forgot to cut my nails.» but I don’t think she really wanted to cut her nails — they were nicely manicured and everything. The store people(a man – Calvin, I think was his name– and the woman) didn’t even ask to help me look for a back-up pair of glasses. I ended up not getting a back-up pair. The next week, I went back to get my contacts and they didn’t say much to me either. I think they exhibit poor customer service. And the only reason why I’d go back is if the eye doctor is still there the next time I need an eye exam.

I broke a pair of glasses, so I went in to get them replaced(they have on the spot service available some days). I paid $ 40 for the eye exam, only to learn that it would be extremely inconvenient for me to replace my glasses if for some reason the exam was faulty and I could not see properly out of my new glasses. I was underwhelmed by the doctor(Asian woman, I forgot her name) who appeared to have just graduated from school. She was rude and unprofessional — she also referred me to her alma mater and insisted that it was the only place in the entire city of New York to go for my type of eye problem. Subsequent doctors have told me that her recommendations do not make sense. While Smart has a good selection of frames and relatively cheap prices, I was unhappy with the service and would not recommend it.
