Polski Remodeling & Flooring

Based on the good reviews on here I gave him a call to see if I could set up an appointment to get an estimate on a kitchen renovation project. It was not a pleasant call at all. I was bluntly told they were not available until November (it is the beginning of July now). He asked no questions about the scope of work, just that he was too busy.

I have used Greg’s team for general remodeling of my home. Greg made some great suggestions for giving my oak floors a makeover. They took an inlay cherry wood border pattern out of my oak floors. They reworked the inlay pattern seamlessly piecing in new wood planks. They also sanded and stained my floors a walnut color so that it looked like new construction.
I chose to use Polski Remodeling recently when my investment property came under offer but the buyers had a time constraint. After the home inspection, the buyers had a laundry list of repairs they wanted done. With only a week’s notice, Polski Remodeling painted a roof, installed GFI electrical outlets, rewired dead electrical outlets and installed a new garage door opener. Unfortunately the garage opener I had purchased was defective. The owner of Polski Remodeling, Greg, drove out the next day and swapped out a new one for no charge.

My husband and I were looking to redo the lighting in our kitchen and dining room. We had purchased our condo about 11 months earlier and the lights that had come with the place looked ugly and were positioned in awkward places. We took a few quotes from places around the city and Polski was significantly lower than the other places we spoke to.
To make a long story short, we were nervous about whether or not Greg was «institutional» or «professional» enough, but we decided to take a chance on him, and he surpassed all of our expectations. He gave honest opinions on how we should position the new lighting (we had him move two lights, remove two lights and install two rows of can lighting) and, now that it’s done, we see that he was right about where everything should go. He got what seemed to be a very substantial amount of work done in three days, and even had to take on some extra work thanks to unforeseen issues with the structure of our building (and thus our ceiling), but he never charged extra or complained about it. He installed, rewired and repainted, and the place looks absolutely perfect. We couldn’t be happier with his work.
Also, arguably most important of all, he was very respectful of our place. He taped up tarps when he realized that dust was blowing into other parts of the home, and he left the place in reasonable shape when he went home at night (our kitchen was still inoperable, but he would sweep and clean his work space).
We have a bunch of small products around the house and will definitely call Greg for every single one of them. We recommend him highly.

We really can’t say enough good things about Greg. We met with him after meeting a couple of other contractors and found he was the most honest and affordable. His work is incredible and I would recommend him to anyone. His crew is polite and hard working. Polski remodeling replaced two floors of hard wood and completely renovated my entire kitchen in a timely manner and came in on budget. I am still totally in love with my kitchen and can’t wait until I can call Greg to remodel our next project.

Unfortunately, what the other reviewers say about this guy is true — he is very hard to get ahold of and flakes on making appointments and getting back in touch with you. I went back and forth with him for more than 2 weeks trying to set up a time to look at my bathroom remodel project. After lots of promises to call/​stop by that he didn’t follow through on, I gave up.
If he doesn’t call back when he’s (hopefully) trying to get the work and impress you, I can’t imagine how he would be once he’s already got the job.

I «fired» the first guy I had contacted to do a job for me because he took 2.5 weeks to get back to me. After reading the reviews here, I called Greg.
While the work that Greg’s contractor (? I’m assuming… separate guy with his own company) did for me was flawless, it took over two weeks to set up the appointment with Greg. The back and forth of phone calls was annoying, as was being told I’d get called back «immediately» when that really meant four days later.
I’d rather he have put me in direct contact with his guy and let me do the back and forth, but I’m presuming he wanted his cut. All’s well that end’s well, though, as I now have the other guy’s name and number and a completed, fantastic job.

I hired Greg to do a kitchen project and could not be happier with how it turned out. It was a fairly large project, a complete gutting of my existing kitchen and ½ bathroom off the kitchen. To start, the demolition phase took about 2 days and Greg and his crew were very careful while removing all our old flooring, cabinets, countertops, etc. I’d like to highlight how clean and organized Greg and his crew are. They neatly organized all their tools, supplies, materials, etc at the end of every day, which made it a lot easier to deal with having a construction zone in our house. It’s not easy living without a kitchen for several weeks, but they made it about as livable as possible.
Greg installed new tile flooring, new cabinets & molding, kitchen hardware, a glass tile backplash, under cabinet lighting, pantry shelving, & recessed lighting among other things. He referred us to a granite fabricator that also did great work and was reasonable in terms of cost.
We are extremely happy with the finished product — the level of detail and pride that Greg puts into his work is evident. He was extremely accessible throughout the whole project and stayed on budget. I look forward to doing another project with Greg and his crew in the future.

So… I have had Greg & his crew do several jobs for me, as has my fiancé (we both own places in the city). Once I found him, and realized how good & honest he is, I’ve never looked back.
Most relevant to this page, Greg’s crew re-​finished & re-​stained my wood floors after I had a disastrous appliance delivery, where they scratched the floors up in my townhome. The floors came out flawless! The color that Greg helped me pick was perfect, and he even stained my railings on the stairs to match. The place was left clean at the end of the job, which was a big bonus considering how much dust there COULD have been after sanding the floors down! They moved all my furniture & crap out of the rooms (kitchen/​living/​dining) & back in afterwards without any damages to the walls or furniture. What a relief!
Not to mention, he always has the most reasonable estimates, and is always spot on with his quotes. Such a refreshing change from the norm in the city!!!

Unfortunately i can’t review the quality of their service, which the other Unilocal reviewers seem to love… I contacted Greg and asked him to come out and give an estimate for drywalling, hardwood floor staining, tiling, painting, and other odds and end jobs. It is a pretty big job and i had 3 general contractors come out to bid. he was responsive and agreed to come out whenever.
Apparently Greg couldn’t make it because he sent a nice, young man in his place who spent less than 15 minutes at the condo (while the other general contractors spent about an hour).
Unfortunately, that is the last i’ve heard of them. no call, no email, no estimate. Almost 2 weeks have gone by with nada. i’ve gotten 2 other estimates and need to start making decisions, but obviously i won’t be using Polski Remodeling. It’s just weird that no one has every gotten in touch with me and this job is like a $ 15,000 job!!!
ah well… i guess they don’t need the business that badly.

Greg and his crew did a great job this summer redoing two bathrooms in some rental units for us. The guys showed up right on time every day and put in long hard days. The finishing work is really great and the bathrooms look amazing! We are already lining up more projects for greg to do for our rental units and for our home as well.

I found and hired Greg and his Polski Remodeling team after reading about them on Unilocal for carpentry, painting, and tile work. I thought his approach to the job was very practical and he offered great suggestions throughout the process. The quote was reasonable, the materials estimate was accurate, and they finished on time as promised. The best part — the work looks fantastic!!! I will gladly give my recommendation/​reference to Greg and Martin from Polski and wouldn’t hesitate to call them again for future remodeling.
You will not be disappointed in their high quality craftsmanship. Hire them!

Being the independent woman I fancy myself to be (throws beret in air), I handle home improvement chores with aplomb. Not doing them myself, mind you, but knowing who to ask for a referral for who to call! I use the telephone to fix stuff like any other red-​blooded American woman!
Polski came to my apartment today with a couple guys to complete the items on my ridiculously cross-​referenced and organized, typeset list of repairs needed (I am Virgo). I had about 5 – 6 projects that needed attention and he knocked them ALL out of the park. I came home after work, and felt like I got a lot accomplished by not being there. They were in and out, finished everything in under about seven hours.
And the price? What he charged me, including materials, was less than a quote I got from another guy to complete only ONE thing on my list.
Next up on his list? The quote he gave me to paint my living room and sand and paint my windowsills — totally gonna get these guys back in. Of course, that’ll be after I go all Martha Stewart on it with my paint chips and obsess about the wall color for a month or so.
I hear Elle Décor calling — my apartment is ready for its close up!

Yes, the name of this business means «Polish Remodeling.»
I’ve always known Polski as simply «Polski.» I didn’t know that owner, supreme gentleman, honest, dependable business man and awesome craftsman Greg Maciolek even had a last name until today when I Googled «Polski Remodeling» to see if Polski had a web presence. He does:
I’ve always had Polski in my cell phone as «Greg Polish Guy.» And this is precisely his brilliant branding at work. Let me explain.
Six years ago I first met Polksi because a friend referred me to him when I needed a carpenter and all around contractor. «Here, call this Polski guy. Here’s his phone number. He’s affordable and his work is great.»
So, I called. He was and is great. So are his employees, whom I believe are mostly his cousins. They’ve been in business 15 years.
When it was time to pay Polski for the first bit of work he did for me, I had my checkbook out and asked: «How do you want the check made out?»
He said: «Polski.»
I laughed to myself, and asked: «You’re serious? That’s what you actually call your business? Polski? Just ‘Polski’? «
He chuckled. «Yes. Or you can make to «Polski Remodeling.»
I paused, and summoned some guts to address something gingerly.
«You know, I like you. You did a great job here, and you’re reasonable as all hell. But can I tell you something — that you haven’t asked my opinion about?»
He replied, graciously: «Of course.»
«Man, calling your business ‘Polski Remodeling’ is like if I had called my law firm ‘Jewish Lawyers.’ That’s a stereotype. You sure you want to be known that way?»
As if to comfort me, with a big smile he put his big carpentry beaten hand on my shoulder, and Polski said to me: «Of course I want to be ‘Polski.’ You never gonna forget name of my business. People like Jewish lawyer. People like Polish carpenter.»
And we’ve been buddies ever since.
I’ve referred Polski endlessly, as I did this week, and it’s always the same response.
No one doesn’t love Polski.
