I was looking for a roofer in April and half of the 6 places I called didn’t even return my call. Lin was able to come out and look at my roof within 2 days and immediately offered a quote. We did have another company look at it and their quote was $ 1000 higher!
It took about 3 weeks for them to start the work because it was a busy time of the year, but they completed the work in one day and offered excellent advice for maintaining the roof. Would definitely recommend and use again.

A Competitive was great to work with for our rubber flat roof maintenance project. Our condo needed some routine maintenance on the roof and Lin came out right away to provide an estimate. While a couple of other places tried to convince me that we needed to replace the whole roof in order to get more money out of the association, Lin said that with some regular maintenance, there is no reason why our roof shouldn’t last another 10 – 15 years.
The estimate was completed in a couple of days, and Lin even came out on the weekend to get the job done. He is very responsive to calls and email, and extremely polite and easy to work with. I know that I will go with A Competitive Inc again when we need roof maintenance.

These guys came in with the lowest bid for some roof and tuckpointing work our 6 unit building needed. They were on time, knowledgeable, and most importantly told us what was needed now, what could wait, and what didn’t need to be done. The work was done on time, cleanly, and on budget.

I was referred to Lin by a neighbor/​friend. They were great. They did a re-​roof for us, which he invited me up to inspect before they put the final aluminum coating on. It really looks great and he showed me some of the areas that they were able to improve, like where the flat roof meets the back gutter and is prone to water back-​up from ice dams. They got the job done when and how they said they would. I would certainly recommend them to others.

I saw that Competitive Inc. was rated as an A+ in the BBB IL. I called on them to check out a leak roof problem in my rental property in Skokie. They were quick to call back and schedule a time to come out and check out the roof.
They determined that the fix was small and easy and suggested we fix on our own. They were courteous and didn’t even charge us for coming out to check the roof out. Very professional and helpful. I will definitely call them again if I have any other roof problems.

Fast reliable and professional. I have new roof for decent price, I competed with other companies they are in the middle price range but work looks very good. Job was done neatly and cleanly.

I called Competitive on Friday afternoon to make an appointment for an estimate. Lin, the owner came the next day before a 9am job. He was honest, the price more than fair and he and his partner came and did the job on Sunday morning. Both were informative, professional and refreshing to meet individuals with such a strong work ethic. I will recommended Competitive to anyone in need of Roofing.

I was drawn to A Competitive because of their Better Business Bureau endorsement, and they’re in the neighborhood. Their response was immediate, in both giving us an estimate and then doing the work to fix a leak. I especially appreciated this, because I had been getting the runaround from another roofing company for months (finally giving up on them). A. Competitive’s price estimate was also very competitive. They were extremely polite and explained the work they did in detail. We have an old ceramic tile roof, which is not the easiest thing to work on, but they seemed very knowledgeable (and are sending some follow up recommendations for maintenance). They did the work very recently, so we are assuming that the leak was successfully fixed. All in all it seems like their Better Business Bureau endorsement is well deserved.

Had a great experience with A Competitive Roofing at our house in Wicker Park. We needed masonry work, and work on the roof. They were responsive, and followed up with a prompt visit and estimate. Lin and team were knowledgeable, showed up on time, worked hard, did a good job, and were pleasant to deal with.
They charged a fair price — not the cheapest but a good. Also, they understood that you don’t need to fix everything in an old house at once, and that it’s OK to do small repairs and maintenance in order to delay a big job by a couple of years.

Had three roofing contractors come out and give estimates for an albeit difficult complete re-​roofing job. Lin from A Competitive came out and impressed me with his knowledge and expertise. Even though his $ 12 000 quote was not the lowest, I felt that because of the difficulties involved in this job, he was the best choice. They came on time and as promised to do the work but this is where the honeymoon ends.
They did a very «quick» one day job leaving an absolute mess. Shingle wrappers left all over blew into the light and air shaft between my building and the next covering windows and drains, leading me to have to climb in there to remove them as my neighbor demanded. Then the first rain came and the new downspout that they installed fell off of the building causing leaking into the unit below. I called them immediately and they did come in a timely matter to affix it properly. The next rain came and yielded three more leaks in various areas of their brand new roof job. I called Lin and he once agreed to come out with his son Ernie to address the issues. His sole solution to all of these inefficiencies is adding roof tar to the affected area. Next rain comes and two of these areas now seem water tight, but the third is still leaking. The two come out again with more roof tar and spread it over the area. The next rain comes and it still leaks in that same area. Calls are no longer returned as it appears obvious that they do not know how to fix the problem. One year later, the new roof still leaks in that spot. Would not recommend.

I’ve used this company twice. Once to redo our apt building roof, and again just today to address some cracks in an exterior wall that was causing some leaking. In both cases, the responses to my request for estimates were quickly turned around. The owner is responsible and personable, he clearly takes pride in his work. For today’s particular visit, he offered to bring his crew in on a Sunday morning (and it’s cold out) to avoid any water damage from leaks. His crew and he were professional. The price matched the quote — he even completed additional spot-​tuck pointing where he noticed additional problems. The estimates were fair, turnaround time was quick, the work is done well, the crews have been professional, and they clearly take pride in their work. It’s all I can ask for — many thanks.

I called for a free estimate for our condo building roof and the owner came out. But our condo has some obstacles, like a deck, that he asked to tear down instead of climbing over. REALLY??! Then he left, never emailed an estimate and won’t return phone calls…

Our condo building needs some external work. It’s probably not a primo job but I called to request a «free estimate» as advertised on their website. I spoke to a nice gentleman who took my information and told me he’d call me back to schedule an appointment to come take a look at the project. He never called. That’s not good business. Take a pass on «A Competitive.»
