Jamie Clar of Clar Electric is great. He’s pleasant, professional, and most important, very ethical, and honest. Being a single woman he could have easily taken advantage of my ignorance but he said it was just the circuit breaker that needed to be switched on. This is the second time I’ve used Clar Electric, and it’s the second time he could have made up a big problem but he didn’t. Both times my problem was minor. He spotted it immediately, fixed it, and charged me a minimum amount for the service call. I definitely recommend this company.

On 1÷21÷2016, we had Jamie out to perform what should have been a very easy change of a transformer, light switch, or the lighting system. He showed up after his 2 hour slot, and started with testing the switch and confirmed that was not the issue. He then said based on his past experience, one common issue is the transformer. In order to move forward with the transformer placement, he needed us to provide you with the brand name. Otherwise, he recommended changing the lighting system.
Honestly, we were confused by his protocol. We have dealt with multiple contractors to remodel our condo. Typically, a contractor should first open the parts to confirm issue, then suggest most reasonable solutions. He or she is responsible to place order for the parts and complete the installment. Customers only pay for the parts based on the store receipt. Service fee is based on actual time spent in doing the job including part purchasing time but minus the travel time to the job. In this case, he diagnosed the issue without actually examining our transformer, but only based on his past experience with other customers. In addition, he put the responsibility of finding the brand name solely on us, which proved to be a huge challenge. Why wouldn’t he just check this while he was here?
The other ridiculous factor was that he said we should contact the prior owner. Well, it’s a condo, so it’s not like the prior owner would have any idea, and since it’s Chicago, the developer obviously did the typical thing of filing for bankruptcy immediately. We clearly said we probably will NOT be able to reach the previous owner since it has been a long time since the purchase. In the meanwhile, we insisted to have him take down the transformer to check if the brand name is labeled. It is only at this point, he, for the first time, got on a stool to exam our system.
Surprisingly, with his first touch of the transformer, the light went on. He explained the issue was the connector. It was loose and now tightened back. He did NOT mention this is a temporary fix or suggested we should continue to pursue the transformer replacement, but later claimed that he had done so. If he had, we would certainly not accept a solution that is only good for a few hours. In fact, he quit opening the transformer as soon as the light went on to see if anything else was wrong. We found this very odd, especially since he had only been here for 10 minutes. Was this out of laziness? Was it because he had no idea what he was doing? We’re not sure. But, what we are sure of is that within a few hours, the light again had stopped working.
When we reached out to him, he simply stated that we should take down the light system and try to find the part number for the transformer. Wasn’t this what we paid him to do?! Admittedly, this is not my area of expertise, which is why (like many of you reading this) we reached out for an expert. He also claimed many falsehoods, which I’d be more than happy to share the screenshots.
I typically like to support small businesses, but strongly recommend you look elsewhere.

I contacted Clar Electric on a Tuesday and needed a grounding pole installed for my new home, as it had never had cable TV and needed to be grounded. I sent a message to Jamie through Angie’s list and he responded within minutes! It was unbelievable. I explained my problem and urgency as the cable company wanted to install the cable on Thursday of that same week. Jamie squeezed me in and came out within 2 days and installed the grounding pole, even though he was backed up on his regular appointments for about 2 weeks. His response time is unsurpassed and he is an exceptional communicator. He came out exactly when promised and quickly installed the grounding pole. While he was out, I requested an estimate for some additional electric work to be performed at a later date. He sent me a written estimate via e-​mail the same day. I was 110% pleased with the service and incredible response time, professionalism and friendliness provided by Jamie. I would highly recommend Jamie and Clar Electric for any electrical work. He is the best!

Jamie and his crew were great. We had a bathroom exhaust fan, bedroom fan and a closet light switch installed. He was very professional and courteous. His team installed everything in a timely manner and they cleaned up after themselves. I would recommend him to anyone looking to have electrical work completed.

We had to get some things brought up to code in a house we bought recently. Jamie came in gave us a fair price and was very responsive through the entire process. When he and his team came to do the work they were very professional and did a great job. I even had some questions afterwards and they were very good at responding. Definitely would recommend them.

I needed some work done on outdoor lighting. I found Clar Electric on Unilocal.After checking out the company and reading reviews I called and left a message for Jamie. He called me back immediately and setup an appointment for two days later. He completed the work under the estimated time. He is very friendly, personable and professional. This guy has been doing electrical work for years and is very trustworthy. I would recommend him and I plan to hire him gain.

Found Jamie via Google search after finding a blown GFI in my kitchen. He came out on a Sunday afternoon to replace the recepticle. Great service! Would definitely call Clar Electric again for my electric work.

Found Jaime on Angie’s List under a deal for ceiling fan installation. Happy with the work, done on time, and price was reasonable.

I found Clar on Angie’s List. 172 reviews and all Grades of A. I had an issue I thought was big but he figured out I just needed new fixtures. All my needs were done very shortly and he explained everything well. Even though he knew it was a small job, he fit it into his schedule, knowing that I might need him for something big someday. And when I told him I am an interior designer, I think he was happy he did the job. I know I’ll use Clar for my Interior Design Projects.

We needed to replace our breaker box and the cable running out to the electric meter. After getting some outrageous estimages, we came across Clar Electric. Not only was the price very competitive, but he actually sounded like he knew what he was talking about, unlike some of the others that were trying to blow smoke up my ass to pad the cost.
The morning we agreed on, 2 of Jamie’s guys showed up and got started. It took a while to get the old box out and they need to do a little construction work to get the new one it, but once it was in, the job was done very quickly. They even patched up the drywall where they had to cut it to get the new box in. It took about 4 hours total from start to finish. About half the time the other bill padders said it would take. Jamie stopped by a couple of times to see how things were going.
Whenever you need electrical work done, you HAVE to give Clar Electric a call. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed with them.

My husband and I called Jaime for additional electric needs. We had 4 ceiling fan & 3 light fixture installations. His 2 co-​workers did a great job and worked diligently for 5 hours. We are very pleased.

Jamie and his crew at Clar Electric are extremely helpful. From the estimate through completion of our project they were courteous, polite, quick to answer any questions, and did excellent work at a very reasonable price.
