House of Ribs

I was bummed about this delivery. The ribs consisted mostly of bones and fat and the coleslaw was warm and had an odd taste. Delivery was on time and friendly. That seems to be the only thing going for them.

This place deserves 0 stars but Unilocal won’t allow that. My best friend has been wanting me to try house of ribs for months. She swears the food is good. Today i decided to try. She placed the order at 448pm. We were told 545pm delivery. Then we were told 550pm. Then we were told 635pm. Called Grubhub around 635 who called the delivery person and was told another 5 minutes. 700 pm still no food. I had to leave because I had other things to do. I’m sorry I agreed to try. My friend never told me delivery takes over 2 hours!!! What’s the point of good food if delivery is over 2 hours. Next time I’ll know to say no

I’ve had better tasting fried chicken from a TV dinner, chicken itself was ok, spices in the breading were blander than a burnt up cardboard box. Mozzarella sticks were good tho.

Yikes. I’m sad and really don’t want to give this place two stars, but alas, they’ve left me no choice. I found them on Grub Hub, but I really wish I would’ve checked their Unilocal reviews before spending $ 30 on delivery for one.
I decided to order their 7-​pc toasted ravioli, cheese fries with bacon and tiramisu. When I asked the lady on the phone how the tiramisu was, she told me she never tried it and wasn’t a fan of tiramisu in general. Fair enough. But when I asked her how big the portion was, she told me it was a good size. It was smaller than my hand, and I have small hands! Not to mention it came still partially frozen. Niiiiice.
The toasted ravioli was so-​so. The sauce looked like it had exploded and was messy when I opened it. The cheese fries were GROSS. Had about as much taste as a piece of paper, and I’m not exaggerating at all. On the contrary, I’m pretty easy to please when it comes to food. Especially when I’m starving, which I was! None of the food was good. It was awful. The only thing I was able to finish was the ravioli. And that was only because I hadn’t eaten for over 8 hours.
I’m only giving this place two stars because of a) the nice lady on the phone who took my order (even though she fibbed about the tiramisu) b) the super nice delivery guy whom I buzzed in and came straight to my door & c) the «speedy» delivery time. It came in just under 40 mins and they estimated an hour. Whoopie.
Sorry, never ordering from here again. Hangry lesson learned the hard way.

I expected nothing from this place and was still disappointed. So for everyone who thinks «It can’t be THAT bad» it really, really can. I paid $ 16 for a steak and what came was a dry slab of meat that mimicked jerky in texture. There was no seasoning or taste to it, but luckily they paired it with the smallest side of steak sauce to compliment your first 2 bites. After that you’re on your own. How can you charge such a high price for something so mediocre? Every single thing we ordered was bland. The fries and broasted potatoes had absolutely no seasoning. HOW IS THIS PLACE IN BUSINESS?!

Should have checked Unilocal before ordering through Grub Hub. Delivery time 1.5 hours. Ribs slathered in sauce, didn’t taste too bad once I got most of it off. Baked potato had obviously been sitting in a warmer for hours. Not recommended.

Wow. Really not impressed. How this place got 2 stars is beyond me. Barely deserves one.
Chicken sandwich I ordered was supposed to be a boneless skinless chicken breast. Instead they gave me a fried one. Wouldn’t of been so disappointed if it was good. I’m talking a couple of levels below McDonald’s quality. Like Tyson frozen food quality. Really gross.
Ribs were not terrible, pretty much the only edible item though. Nothing to write home about. Pizza puff, a food that I used to think impossible to mess up… it was burnt on the outside and frozen (really, it was frozen) in the middle.
Stay away!

AWFUL! I called to complain about my meal and the woman on the phone was awful. She has a major attitude problem, and could offer to have a driver come to inspect the food? wtf?. The «half rack» of ribs I ordered only contained 3 ribs!?! Plus they were drowning in sauce. The broasted potatoes were oily steak fries. The potato salad was clearly store bought and in a small container. The corn was inedible. I ordered my food at 7:15 and did not receive it until 8:50.
STAY AWAY!!!

One of the very worst experiences with take out I have ever had.
We ordered over the phone and the surly gentleman just couldn’t be bothered with a single question.
The food arrived on time and warm. And that’s all the good things I have to say about this experience.
The chicken was just okay. The broasted potatoes were dry and flavorless. No seasoning at all. The corn on the cob was actually disgusting. Inedible. The texture was like they had been boiling it all week. Also completely flavorless. Bread was stale and crappy. We ended up tossing the corn, bread and potatoes because House of Ribs failed to send the butter that was supposed to be included per the menu. (I didn’t have any better hence the ordering out).
Oh — and don’t bother ordering the cake. It’s the kind you can buy at the register at ⁷⁄₁₁ for half the price.
NEVER ordering from there again. Yuck.

Wanted to try someplace new. The food was mediocre. The fantail shrimp was gross. Ribs were ok. Sauce was awful. Potato and macaroni salad were store-​bought. Probably wont order from them again.

My boyfriend always brags about how good House of Ribs is and so today was the first time we gave it a try together to my dismay. I ordered the zucchini parmigiana only to receive it, although HOT, as steamed zucchini slices mixed in spaghetti with little sauce and melted cheese on top. How lazy!
Last time I checked, parmigiana (a short form of Parmigiana di melanzane) is a Southern Italian dish made with BREADED AND FRIED sliced filling, layered with cheese and tomato sauce, then baked. Come to think of it, they also offer zucchini on the appetizer combo basket. Does that mean, that the onion rings, mushrooms, and cauliflower are served steamed too? Gross, unexpected, and very disappointing.
On a side note– The lady who took our order was very nice over the phone and my boyfriend LOVED his chicken ‘n tips combo meal.

I am a connoisseur of bbq ribs. I also am poor, so when it comes to food, I want quantity as well as quality. So when it comes to ribs, the rib tips is king. most meaty, fatty, bbq goodness. That is. until I found the bbq beef ribs. Last Monday, I was looking through grubhub for bbq and found House of Ribs. They have a bbq slab monday special. You can either choose the pork or the beef. Their beef ribs are prepared in a really unique way. Instead of cutting vertically between each rib, they cut horizontally, making it more like a ribeye steaks or korean kalbi. IT WA ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! It came with a huge portion of beef ribs, an order of fries, coleslaw, and garlic bread. I also got a slice of pizza to try it.
It was so good, I ordered it again this Monday. In addition to the ribs, I also got a seafood platter that had perch, shrimp and scallops. This place has everything: ribs, rib tips, bbq chicken, fried chicken, pizza, pasta, sandwiches. and italian ice! It’s a place where you want great chicago comfort food. delivered to you… or if you live close enough to them. for pickup.

We ordered what turned out to be a $ 40 meal of disappointment and regret.; bbq chicken nuggets, mozzarella sticks, a bbq beef and an Italian beef sandwich.
Now maybe as a native memphian I’m spoiled, but when we opened the carton of nuggets, we were greeted by generic Sam’s club chicken nuggets and a bland sauce of spicy ketchup disguised as barbeque sauce. Took a few bites of one and decided it wasn’t worth eating, not because I’m picky or wasn’t hungry, it was just that gross. The beef sandwich was bland, the bread soggy and unfulfilling and served with the same wanna-​be bbq sauce as before, and the Italian beef was practically inedible. even after some in-​home doctoring of gardinara, salt and pepper.
The mozzarella sticks were the least disappointing of our order, and even then nothing special.
Worst of all was the attitude of the man who took our order; rude, snappy and condescending.
It shouldn’t come as a shock but we ended up calling 5 minutes into the meal to complain and try to return our dinner. When when we asked for a refund, SnarkyMcwaiter treated it as a joke, laughing, yes LAUGHING when we told him we felt jipped and would like to speak to a manager. Any establishment that blows off its customers to such a degree shouldn’t be in business. Not worth the money or hassle, we will NEVER order from this restaurant again; horrible food, horrible service.

Roommates and I were looking for someplace new to order from so decided on this place since it had a little bit of everything. We decided against ribs, which, given some of the reviews on here, was a good thing (methinks this business needs a name change…). We ordered through grubhub and it said that delivery would take about 90 minutes. Say what? 1 hour and 30 minutes?!? Mind you, we live less than 4 blocks away. We figured this was just grubhub adding on some extra time to cover their hides. Nope, it REALLY did take almost 90 minutes for them to deliver. Once again, may I add that we live less than 4 blocks away…
The food was very blah and pretty over priced for what you get. My burger was borderline burnt and crunchy on the edges. I’d had better burgers that didn’t cost nearly $ 7 with zero sides and I’ve had burgers w/​a similar price point that were delicious. Roommate was ok w/​her food (fantail shrimp), but did note that she didn’t get much food for the price.
Honestly, it’s not worth the price or the wait (seriously, 90 minutes…)

— worst day of my life :(The fries and ribs were cold, the cole slaw was hot. I don’ t get it? Also, I was under the assumption that ribs were supposed to have meat on them? Apparently not at House of Ribs. So disappointed.

After a tough (but good, full of work) week, I was in a mood to hibernate and get food delivered. And I could afford a small, uncharacteristic splurge. RIBS. I barely eat any red meat anymore, but somehow a two pound order of rib tips sounded really good to me on this night. And cheese fries to round out the order and meet the minimum $ 15 delivery fee.
The ribs were great, juicy and savory, and lasted me for meals for three days. I ordered via GrubHub, and the delivery time was a bit long. But, I distracted myself, and soon enough I was nom nom nom’ing on my ribs, up to my wrists in barbeque sauce.
I can only imagine what this joint looks like in real life, but the ribs were good enough that I’d brave the Wilson red line stop to find out. Yum.

We ordered a steak dinner AND a rib tip dinner… but the rib tip was only here. I called to check and they were accusing US of receiving it and lying about it. The owner never apologized, he hung up on us after saying the driver will come and PICK IT UP, forcing us to wait another hour, when the first delivery came after a hour.
We didn’t touch the food and had it open, so that they can see that they lied about sending the food in. The delivery guy came, didn’t even see the food, and TOOK the bag, threw the cash I gave him hour earlier on the ground, and complained about losing gas and time!!!
I called GrubHub and found out that the owner called to cancel the order after hanging up on me. He even was rude to the Grubhub agent who called to find out the situation for me. If you can’t deliver, and can’t send «2 meals», then get out of the restaurant business! Bad food, with WORST service I’ve ever seen in my lifetime. First bad review of my lifetime!!!

In nutshell, this place stinks. Period. That said however, it was my fault because I did not heed to the reviews of others that on average gave this place less than 3 stars. I figured everyone has different expectations and there were a couple of people that gave these people 5 stars…(why I dont know).
First, as wth a few of the other callers, the guy was rude on the phone. He did not get my order right the first time. He was talking to two people at the same time, and then he hung up the phone without giving me any idea about how long it would take. Nice right?
The ribs. The price was right. The product was not. What about a slab of dry and chewy ribs can anyone like? Flavor, the sauce, and everything else is not important at this point. Pure junk. It was as if they were cooked hours ago or yesterday and just sitting in the oven. I know they were in the over because they did arrive hot. The fries were overcooked (perhaps recooked??) and greasy.
OK, I think you have read enough… don’t go.

I ordered from House of Ribs because I was in the mood for something other than pizza, Chinese, Thai or Sushi.
I decided on House of Ribs because I figured «hey, I want ribs and they’re the House of Ribs.» Well I figured wrong. I ordered the ½ slab of beef ribs. The ribs were horribly dry. When I bit into them it seemed as if they simply poured hot barbecue sauce over room temperature ribs. Needless to say I ended up throwing away 60% of the ribs because they were inedible.
The only positive out of the entire experience is the quick delivery time and the mozzarella sticks. Well maybe I was so put-​off by the ribs the mozzarella sticks seemed better than average.

After placing my order on Grubhub, last night, they called to confirm my order. The guy on the other end asked me what I wanted on my CHEESEburger, and I told him it was just a plain hamburger, no cheese, just meat and bread. He said okay and hung up. Over an hour and a half my order arrived cold and soggy. My boyfriend said his was okay but the potato salad was gross and the baked potato was dry, even with butter and sour cream. When I went to unwrap my burger, it had cheese on both sides and was too cold to even scrape it off. I called back and the guy tried to offer me credit. I told him I wanted my PLAIN burger and he said they would send out another one. An hour later the driver arrived and the burger was cold and tasted horrible even after I put my own BBQ sauce on it, as theirs was just to watery.
To top it off our roommate ordered from them this afternoon, called an hour after not hearing anything and they told him the driver’s car broke down. The driver arrived yet another hour and a half later and the food was «warm enough»
This food is definitely more for going there to eat, do not dare order from there unless you want cold soggy food. A 2 ½ hour wait is not worth it for this food.
