I wasn’t sure if I should write a review, because these guys have BBB stickers on the windows, and the whole reason I went to them in the first place is because I had read enough positive reviews of the place that I thought they’d be a good shop. I read some of the negative reviews here on Unilocal (you might have to look for them, they get buried, I guess), and my situation is so similar to those that I decided that I should write a review, so people get a full story.
I went in for an oil change (the 2^nd time I’ve gone to them, I think), and I wanted them to look at the AC and tell me if there was something that they could do to «goose» it (my words). I told the gentleman that the AC worked, and that it was just that the car was 8 years old now, and I wanted to know if they could make the AC supercool, like-​new, did they have a service like that? He said that he could check the pressures (I’m assuming that this is a diagnostic thing), and tell me if a system flush would be in order, and that additional work, if recommended, would cost about $ 140. I consented to the pressure check, and he said that I did in fact need the additional work. My girl and I are fixed income (I am PTSD, and a student, and she’s in surgery recovery), I talked it over with her, and I told him that I’d have to put it off, too broke, but thanks.
I left with my car, after the oil change. Now, the AC is hissing nonstop, and is blowing only outside temperature air (today, it’s 102 degrees). Of course, I returned and explained the problem, and they immediately took up a defensive posture, talking over each other about ASE certifications and years in business, and now I’ve got the nerve to walk in there and accuse them of bad business practices — the whole thing was weird. I never said a single word like that. I had to state several times that I wasn’t accusing them of anything, all I was saying was that my AC was functioning when I arrived, and when I left, immediately after their inspection, it no longer worked. I just needed them to fix that, please. They insisted that they did nothing wrong, and that they would not make any assurances that my AC would be restored to its prior state, but that they would give it another pressure test. I said that I needed someone to commit to me that the AC would be restored to its prior state. I said that I needed to speak to whomever was the store manager, owner, whomever could address such a serious customer service issue. I was told that person was not there, and that the person that I was speaking to was the de facto person in charge. I was also told that the technician that inspected my AC was off premises, paying his mortgage, so there would be a delay. I need to tell you, this was very strange. I took out my camera phone to document the clock on the wall, my receipt, the garage through the customer lounge window, and the individual at the front desk swore at me, telling me that he would call the police if I took his picture again, swearing again when other employees entered (I think there were four guys gathered now, but employees were walking in and out, and I think everyone spoke at one point or another, and they were all saying things to the effect that I had a bad attitude… and I’m the only customer in the store this whole time — nice right?). I told the man swearing at me that I had my phone out to protect myself, the only reason. One of them said that they would do the AC work for free, and that they wanted me to leave and to never come back. I told them that I would absolutely do that, just please restore my AC to functioning, as it was when I arrived an hour before. They did return the AC to its prior state (it’s been a few hours, and I think everything is fine again), and the oil change that I originally came for seems fine. Anyway, that’s just one person’s experience, and they do have more positive reviews than negative ones, so take it for what it’s worth, but like the man told me, I’m not going back.

Nothing but the best from Greg’s! I’m a «car guy» so I know a CV joint from an air freshener. We’ve been taking our Honda and Toyota there for years. Always knowledgeable, friendly, competitive and courteous. I have recommend to friends and family.

I have been going to Greggs Auto for 2 years. They are friendly and efficient. They have always met my needs on my Camry. Their prices are very fair and I totally trust their service.

These guys are geniuses. a mechanic at a big name corporate place told me candidly to take my car to Greg’s. I am happy and impressed. Will be recommending this place to family and friends.

I started taking my car to Greg’s two years ago when my previous car mechanic replaced the compressor on my air conditioning but could not get it working right. Greg’s technicians were able to fix it without major additional expenses. Next our other car did not pass emissions. Greg’s diagnosed the problem to be due to a non OEM catalytic converter that was undersized. Fortunately Greg’s technicians were able to tune the vehicle and allow the car to pass emissions. I have also been taking my vehicles there for oil changes and other small maintenance. I find them to be very helpful and knowledgeable. They don’t suggest services that aren’t needed (different from what I have experienced in some other places) and they charge reasonable prices. Overall I am a happy customer!

I started going here a couple years back they were OK with the simple straight forward stuff. But then went with more complex stuff and have had to continually go back and they always find an excuse to keep charging me more and more for same issue. So I’m going to start going somewhere else now. Someone that can handle the small simple stuff I don’t want to do all the way up to the more complex issues. If your looking for someone to handle the easy stuff these guy might be good fit. If your looking for all around I would suggest to look at someone else.

Terrible. I just went in for a quick oil change and check. Left with an overfilled oil pan that started to cause my engine to smoke.
It didn’t smoke in all the years I had done my oil changing. But the week after I took it in to these clowns it starts smoking on startup. I went back to complain but all they did was replace the oil again, right up to the top fill mark, they said, then added some oil additive to top it off. The engine smoked off and on at startup for the next few years. I’ve never been back.

I recently had some car repairs performed at the shop «Gregs Japanese Auto» on Chandler boulevard in Chandler, Arizona. I have to inform you that I was very unsatisfied with the work performed on my car and can not, in good conscience, recommend your shop to anyone.
Let me describe to you my experience. I discovered a coolant leak that appeared to be coming from the back of the engine in my 1991 Nissan 300zx. I attempted to discover where it was coming from, to no avail. I brought it to your shop to be pressure tested and diagnosed. I received a call later that day saying that the system was holding pressure just fine and there was no leak. I explained to the technician that I knew there was a leak somewhere because I was constantly having to refill my radiator. He came back and told me that he tested the system more, it was still holding pressure, however the radiator cap was not. They replaced the cap, charging me for the cap and diagnosis then sent me on my way with a list of recommended repairs including a few small oil leaks, transmission pan leak, steering and suspension maintenance. I kept this list for my reference.
At this point, I was very satisfied with the service received, so when my clutch pedal dropped to the floorboard later that week I did not think twice about bringing my car in to your shop for repairs. I trusted the diagnosis that the master and slave cylinders for the hydraulic system for the clutch were leaking. While the repair was being preformed, I received a call to tell me that my water pump was leaking and I was loosing coolant. I questioned how this could be and why the shop didn’t catch it when I brought it in for that exact problem mere days before. He gave me the excuse that it only leaks when its cold, they pressure tested it after it had warmed up and the seals were swollen and therefore held pressure. This was very careless on on the shops part. The original reason I brought this vehicle in and the original service I paid for was a diagnosis of the engine cooling system. This service was not accurately or appropriately performed or provided.
Secondly, a mere few days after receiving the car back from the shop after the clutch hydraulic system repair, the clutch began slipping. Now, while it is true that the clutch is a maintenance part that gradually wears out and needs to be replaced, this process can be accelerated by an improper adjustment of the hydraulic system that controls the clutch and I find it far too coincidental that as soon as I had the cylinders replaced and adjusted by your shop, the clutch decided to give out. I brought this to the technician, and asked him to check the adjustment and inspect the car. He called me out into the shop to «show» me that the hydraulic system was operating properly. What he showed me was that the master cylinder does move when the pedal is depressed. This information was useless to me and does not prove that it was adjusted properly. He then proceeded to lie to me, telling me that he listed the clutch slipping on the original recommended work list. I disagreed with him, as I had read the recommended work list that had been given to me and knew it was not on there. He continued to argue with me, heading back into the office to pull up the document in your computer system, so much for the «customer is always right» attitude your shop advertises. When he pulled it up in the system, and realized I was correct, he did not apologize for his rude and inconsiderate behavior. The manager (Phil) merely pushed him out the back door and explained that there was nothing they would do for me because the clutch is a wear and replace part.
This is unacceptable and I regret to inform you that I will be filing a complaint with the better business bureau and making sure that my friends and the online community are aware of the poor workmanship and service provided by Gregs Japanese Automotive.

Recently took my Inifinti in for some pretty extensive repairs without wanting to get worked over at the dealership. First time I was there, but had a good recommendation from a close friend. The guys were friendly and wanted to show me where the repairs were needed while they recommended them. The prices were fair and I trusted their experience working on my «Japanese» car. They were also really accurate in regards to the time it would take them to complete the repairs and I was able to plan my time accordingly. The waiting area was kinda humorous though and you can see they’d rather spend money on equipment rather than furniture. Also, if you’re a TV watcher, you’re SOL cause the TV was on it’s last leg while I was there.
All in all I’m very satisfied with the way my car runs and the services performed. I’ll be back (hopefully for only routine maint.)
Oh and the 2 bad reviews they got were from customers that never took their cars to them, cause I made sure to ask.

I’ve taken my car here a couple of times and the first couple of experiences were great. They were friendly and very customer service oriented (always have been for the most part). Which makes me want to give them 3 – 4 stars.
However, this past spring, I took my car in for it’s normal maintenance and an oil change. I was leaving a for a long trip a couple of days later and told them this so they checked everything over thoroughly, made some recommendations on things that needed to be fixed and also showed me how to check my oil levels.
A few days later, I drove to my destination in another state. The following day, my passenger got in the car, she noticed a smell of oil that I hadn’t noticed. I opened up the hood of my car only to find oil splattered all over the place and the oil cap lodged (luckily) in between some of the pipes in the engine. I was in a sheer panic and called the shop and left an urgent voicemail (It was evening) — not knowing what to do or whether the car was safe to drive. There was little to no oil left in the tank.
The next day I received a call and they just said just to fill tank with oil, clean the engine at the car wash and it should be ok. They immediately defensive and were quick to say they didn’t do anything wrong and that someone must have accessed my engine (within 2 – 3 days of the service? really? i hadn’t gone anywhere other than work and home and quick errands and i have a garage) or that I must’ve checked the oil and forgot to put the cap back on. I basically told them that I wasn’t interested in arguing about it… I just wanted to make sure that it was safe to drive 8 – 10 hrs back to the Phx area.
However, the whole experience left me with a bad taste in my mouth. As much as I would like to give them another chance because I honestly believe that they are not bad guys, they are relatively fair and that they do a pretty good job, If my car engine had been totally messed up after that fiasco — it was clear that they would not have taken responsibility for the fact that they forgot to put the oil cap back on. I think it was pretty obvious that they made an honest mistake and I just think it lacks character and customer service to have not taken responsibility for their mistake. They told me to bring it in when I got back and they would check it out, but at that point — why should I trust them?

My girlfriend took her 1995 Toyota Land Cruiser in to get the Valve Cover gasket replaced, and the shop said the vehicle was too high off the ground to work on the engine. So they removed the tires to lower the vehicle and then rested it on the brake rotors. My girlfriend almost had a heart attack when she saw that. Then they split the cold air intake tube and said for $ 200 they could replace it. We both have Toyota Land Cruisers and we will never return to this shop.
