Chandler Small Animal Clinic

Our Beau loves this place. He usually just boards here but as of late the groomer has been really giving him a great cut! Too bad she is now part time it the doggie hotel works great!

I boarded my 2 precious dogs here for the first time last weekend. I was VERY nervous since I have never boarded my dogs before. I inspected 7 different kennels before choosing this one. Why? Well, many reasons. First of all, there is no unpleasant smell. No smell of pee or that strange chemical smell that is at nearly every vet I have ever been to. The place was very clean yet the kennel worker (Sarah) was dirty. I liked this because clearly she had been busy playing with the dogs as she had doggy paw prints on her pants. Sarah was kind, calm and gentle and clearly the dogs respond well to her. As I entered the perfectly clean kennel area, NO DOG WAS BARKING. Think about that. Every single dog was perfectly happy to be there. Very odd Yet very soothing. It was a calm, relaxed environment and NOT what I saw at other boarding facilities. A Great Dane puppy started to bark a little bit and Sarah was able to quiet him down. It is almost as if she is the ‘Dog Whisperer’. The prices are not a bargain ($ 40 for both dogs per night) but they are not out of control either. The only thing I don’t like is that there is an additional fee if you pick up ‘after hours’ and you must pick up before 11am or you are charged with another day. Other than that, I am happy to support this kennel. In fact, I am taking my dogs there tomorrow for a week.

Extremely great Vet and staff. They have always gone above and beyond in the care of my dogs. Dr. Benesch is very kind and caring and always gives follow up calls when necessary or just to see how he or she is doing after receiving treatment. Would highly recommend!

As a former vet tech, I have had the pleasure as well as opportunity to see how the place is run from the inside out. It was one of my first jobs out of the Army and boy does Dr. Benesh (B) run a tight ship. I have never met another Dr. who emphasized continuous education in whatever way possible. He wouldn’t make me feel as if I was ever bugging him when I would incessantly inquire about the latest procedure or an article that I came across. He truly has a passion for animals and it’s apparent through the way that he conducts his business.
There were a few comments regarding his belief system but I wouldn’t care if he worshipped daisies as long as he treated my lil «baby» like he does each and every animal that comes through his doors. I know that the man has come by l8 night to check on certain animals, waive some money/​fees that was owed for services because of the customer’s circumstance, and even let a Dr. go because he felt that they were not the best representation of his company. I too was let go, yet I have nothing negative to say about this man, his wife Ginny, or his business.
He’s been in the community for many moons and has proven himself as an efficient doctor who sincerely cares about what he does. I can’t say that about most people, let alone doctors.
When the animals are boarded, they’re looked after by the kennel help, vet techs, and sometimes even the receptionists would take the animals for a «walk about».

We absolutely love Dr .B & the staff here! I’m not sure what’s up with some of these reviews but we have been using Dr. Benesch & Chandler Small Animal clinic for over 20 years! (maybe some ppl just are complainers? I don’t know but I am offended & suspicious of any reviewer who criticizes a person’s religion.)
Every single one of our pets has gone to see them — 4 dogs & 6 cats total. Although we moved from Chandler over 15 years ago to Gilbert & now NE Mesa, I drive 40 minutes each way to still take our pets here. I simply can’t recommend them enough & I do to everyone I know. Dr. B is one of the most compassionate & honest doctors (yes, I include human drs.) I have ever met. He has helped our pets thru accidents (rattlesnake bites), illness (feline infectious peritonitis & chronic kidney disease), injury (torn ACL), to «routine» preventative care & annual vaccinations. Dr. B does not sugar coat a diagnosis or give you half truths, he is an honest man who gives his honest opinion of diagnosis & care in a gentle & compassionate way. He also won’t recommend useless or unnecessary treatments or just write out an RX he knows won’t have the desired affect. An example with our 13.5yr old lab mix, Buddy — he is prone to lipomas (benign fatty tumors) & has had previous ones removed when he was younger. At this years annual check up I pointed out some new lumps on Buddy’s rib cage & chest & ask Dr. B if they needed to be removed or some sort of treatment made. He examined them again, shrugged, looked me in the eye & told me, Buddy’s 13 yrs old, as we get older things start to happen & deteriorate that’s normal, they don’t bother him & a surgery would have more risks than benefits. You couldn’t ask for a better vet. He is so gentle & caring when examining all of our pets, making the trip as least stressful for them as can be possible.
Their customer service is outstanding too. Dr. B remembers mine & my husband’s names, where we live & the work we do, even that I’m from the Midwest too. He knows all of our pets as well. The front desk staff is always friendly & helpful. Jessica in particular is always ready to offer a warm welcome. Due to our Siamese’s kidney disease he requires IV fluids so when we travel he has to be boarded, even if it’s just a weekend trip. Ryan takes wonderful care of him when we leave him. I would say Ryan spoils Koko rotten! This summer after picking Koko up after our 10 day vacation, he came home looking better than when we dropped him off! His coat was shiny & healthy looking– I think he even gained a little bit of weight!
I simply could go on & on with all the exceptional service & moments we have received at Dr. B’s Chandler Small Animal Clinic. Having pets as family is expensive & can be emotionally excruciating when they are sick or injured, but Dr. B & his office always treats us & everyone we see there compassionately & with the animals best interest in mind. Even when we have had fatal diseases diagnosed & had to make the final decision to put them down, we would receive a sympathy card in the mail after. I can’t imagine taking our pets anywhere else.

I had the displeasure of doing business with this veterinary clinic when I acquired a foster dog who was already a client here. I have 3 pets of my own and adore their vet, and with a place that actually cares about animals to compare this place to; I have to beg anyone who reads this to please find another vet.
I was first instructed to pick up my foster from being boarded with them for a couple weeks. When I went in to pick him up and told who I was there to get the receptionist basically told me thank god because they all disliked the dog. Not knowing what to expect of this new addition to my household, I asked what she meant and she said he barked nonstop but it was probably because he barely came out of the crate every day. She told me «good luck» when I left but it was the dogs good luck that I arrived when I did. Please never board an animal here, they barely come out of their crates and it gets worse…
I bring the dog home and immediately realize he has an ear infection and stomach bug. How did they not realize this when they had him? Oh that’s right; he never came out of the crate. I place a call to them to see what bug was going around their office and what they could recommend for him. I was told they couldn’t give me an appointment, but I could drop him off, they could board him for the day and they can fit him in at some point. Since I just said he clearly caught something from there why would I want to bring him back and leave him there for the day? I ask for a vet to call me to discuss my options, they take the message but I never hear from anyone and two days later we end up at the local emergency vet for IV meds and fluids.
Flash forward a few more weeks, the dogs ear infection is back. I call the vet on a Saturday (while they are still open) and ask if there is anything they can do for a quick relief and am told «not til Monday». I again ask that a vet call me back, even if it is Monday and again never hear back. When it started affecting the dogs balance and the smell emitting from his ear became so horrible within 24 hours, we once again end up at the emergency vet.
Why did I never call my regular vet? Good question. I stayed with the vet because the dogs’ original owner really liked them, against my better judgment. Lesson learned. I made an appointment the next week for vaccines, and want to follow up on his ear. I go in for the appointment, tell the tech it’s the dogs RIGHT ear, hear the tech tell the vet outside the door it’s his RIGHT ear, I tell him myself it’s the dogs RIGHT ear but when he went to get the culture he starts swabbing the dogs LEFT ear like he was getting the last bits of peanut butter out of a jar. The dog is Unilocaling and squirming and the vet moves on to the rest of the exam completely ignoring his right ear. I have to ask why he wouldn’t check the ear that is bothering him before he swabbed the right ear and found the infection. Every time I try to ask something or explain something the vet interrupts me, when I inquire about the dog staying in Waddell for a few weeks and does he need any additional vaccines or preventive meds for that area (fleas, ticks, etc) he only tries to sell me 6 mos worth of heartworm medication. He didn’t even do a heartworm test on the dog first, was just going to give him preventive meds, without testing him. When I mention I have an issue with this he says «well, if you want we can give him a test but it will take 2 days to get the results back». What I want is for him to research the issues of giving heartworm prevention on a dog that may already have heartworms. For the record, my dogs are on heartworm preventive meds– this dog is not yet due to being a foster. It will be under way once I can get him in to my vet for a better exam and test but, by this catastrophic time in the vet visit, I just wanted out and could not hide how angry I was.
This vet practice is incompetent and dangerous rendering care to animals. One front desk girl is super friendly (her name may be Jessica), while another rude girl acts like she would rather be anywhere than there and asking for help is too much to ask of her. Boarding is probably the cheapest in town at $ 20 per day, but you get what you pay for– animals with no attention and sent home deathly sick. Please, please, please take your business, and beloved pets, elsewhere.

I’ve been taking my dogs and my parrots to Dr. Benesh for 24 years. No complaints at all. Very, very nice personalities and lots of genuine compassion there. I did stray once and went to the Warner animal hospital and all I could «see was dollar signs in their eyes». So, I always go to Chandler Small Animal Clinic, with no reservations! /​JP

A few years ago these guys listened to my sob story over the phone, let me bring my dog in just before closing, already knowing she probably had parvo and they’d have to stay late bleaching the place For a reasonable price they gave me all the supplies I’d need to hopefully nurse her back to health. No false promises, ⁸⁰⁄₂₀ with parvo. She lived, these guys are awesome.

Fantastic vet. My cats tail was caught in a door and injured. Thankfully they could understand me through my crying babble and told me to come in immediately. They examined her, told me what they thought was wrong and whisked her off for surgery. I was able to get a round-​about price for everything (not that cost mattered, but no one likes a $ 500 surprise.). They called a few hours later with updates on my cat, cost and time for pickup.
A week later they were more than helpful letting me come in when it was convenient for me to have her bandages removed.
They are excellent.

I’ve been seeing Dr B for three years now for all of my animals (3 cats and a dog). My dog is very scared at the vet, and Dr B handles her like a pro.
I’ve taken my family members there for basic check ups, testing, shots, and grooming.
The only thing that I’ve noticed is that there always seems to be new techs. Several of the staff members have been there seemingly a long time.
In any case, I’ve been very happy with Dr B, and would recommend him to others.
As to the comments on his religion, I don’t see how that matters. It’s a personal thing and he has done an excellent job with my fur-​friends.

Sounds like Jessica J. is in a fantasyland of lust when it comes to Dr. B. Her head is so in the clouds she overlooks the mistakes and shortcomings of this vet clinic.

Just seeing the name of this joint again makes my blood boil. Several years ago, my cat had a tooth pulled here. They sent him home the same day, and he was FAR from ready to be released. He bled all over the house, was still sedated and disoriented and apparently in pain, and had a wrap on his arm and over his front paw from where they had an IV in him during surgery. They said nothing about when to remove it, so I left it on for the evening. When I took it off, it had been wrapped so tightly that his paw had swollen up to mammoth proportions. Un-​be-​freakin-​lievable.
Search the web for reviews elsewhere of this place, and you’ll find other horror stories, especially about boarding nightmares. Oh yeah — the guy who runs the joint is a scientologist. He used to have a blurb on the website about it, but it has since been pulled down. But if you Google his name, you’ll find his personal scientology page, including ramblings about how it has improved his life. SCARY!!!
Avoid at all costs. I’d take my pets to a witch doctor before I’d return to this dump.

If you live in Chandler and you are trying to find a good vet for check ups with reasonable prices then Chandler Small Animal Clinic is good for you! They are great about scheduling your dogs annual check ups and are really good about calling you to set them up and remind you. And for a working person, this is greatly appreciated.
When I brought my dogs/​cats here for their basic checkups I was never disappointed. And If all animals need is basic check ups, I would always take them here, even though I moved to Central Phoenix.
I’m not sure about your dogs/​cats, but mine tend to have issues beyond their check ups. I have one dog who especially found of eating cat food, and because of this she almost died! The whole process with CHAC was frustrating and I never felt completely confident in my Vet, Dr. Benesh. But ultimately my dog got better! So I continued to see this Vet.
Then one day I went in for a check up with both my dogs. And my poor baby Jazzy is scared of the Vets office. She was almost attacked there by another dog, and she gets freaked out. She does the growling thing, which I know can be annoying… Hey I’m the one who takes her. But when the Vet walked in looked at my growling baby and looked at me and said «What do I do with her» That was the point where I decided not to take my dogs back.
Shouldn’t a Vet with years of experience know how to handle a dog who is growling??? Just a thought!
But like I said, if you want a great place for your perfectly behaved dog to get their check up, Please got to CSAC. Oh and I took my cats there to, never had a problem and was always pleased with ever aspect of how they were with my cats.

i’ve taken my dog and cat here for awhile now, we used to enjoy this place, but recently we called to have our dog checked for a medical issue as well as grooming. when it was time to pick up the dog, they hadn’t washed him nor had he been checked by the doctor, they just charged us for boarding him for the day??? one of the ladies behind the counter had the nerve to say «don’t look at me, it’s not my fault». anyway… unfortunately, the girls behind the counter aren’t sure what is going on and now that i think about all of the issues we’ve had with trying to schedule the most simple thing, i think that they’ve been been giving him too many shots.
