A phonetic program based linguistically on the 44 sounds we use in English. Thirteen lessons focus on decoding rules. A lesson takes as long as a student needs to be able to retain and apply those rules.

We never use flash cards. (promotes memorizing) We never use objects, colors or physical movements to represent sounds. (too much unnecessary information) We never use pictures in teaching. (promotes guessing)

The process of decoding words as naturally as possible establishes the foundation for all the other steps in reading, e.g., fluency, comprehension and vocabulary development.

History

Established in 2002.

As a homeschooling mom of 20+ years, we experienced some reading issues for two of our children. While trying several different programs, we discovered that none of them were quite thorough in teaching the numerous sounds of the English alphabet and all somewhat lacking.

Finally, we discovered a comprehensive program and the most effective methodology for reading instruction. For example:

* What are the six sounds of E?

* What are the five sounds of I?

* What are the five sounds of O?

* What are the five sounds of U?

* What are the six sounds of Y?

* What rule dictates when Y is always silent?

* Why is a silent D in words such as ledge and judge?

* Why is a silent U in words such as guess and guitar?

* When and why does the suffix ED make each of its three distinct sounds?

* What rule determines when C will copy the sound of S and when it will copy the sound of K? This important rule affects about 250,000 words.
