After interviewing three other A/​C companies and becoming frustrated and confused with differing sales pitches, I turned to Unilocal for a recommendation for an A/​C and heating company.
Coastal Refrigeration Heating and Air had great reviews, so I took a chance and placed the call. Seth, the owner, answered the phone right away. He listened to what my needs were, and offered to come out to assess the situation within the hour bringing with him Phillip, his very experienced technician/​installer. They listened attentively to my explanation of what I thought I needed, took a great deal of time thoroughly evaluating my current A/​C system, and came up with a plan that would work well for my home, even pointing out ways I could SAVE money during the install. They paid special attention to my need for a system that would improve the air quality (due to my asthma). I was very comfortable with both Seth and Phillip, sensing their sincerity, knowledge, and wanting to meet my needs. I did not feel like I was being pressured or «sold» anything.
We were able to quickly agree on a very fair proposal for the work, and scheduled the installation when it was convenient for me.
From the moment the installation began, I was impressed by the professionalism, knowledge, honesty, and work ethic that Seth, Phillip, and their crew demonstrated during the entire process. I was so appreciative that I was kept informed of what was going on during the process, and made to feel that I was part of the decision making process throughout.
I want to give Phillip and his hard working crew a special ‘shout out’ for being so respectful of my home, hard working, and ‘going the extra mile’ during this install.
Needless to say, my new A/​C system works perfectly, I am breathing easier, and I know that I can always call on Seth with any questions, big or small.

After years of suffering through the summer heat we decided to add AC to our home in 2016. I contacted three HVAC companies for quotes. One of them was Coastal Refrigeration mainly due to their 5 star ratings on Unilocal.I could tell the reviews were real on not friends and family. Seth and Phillip came out and did a very thorough walk through so they could develop a quote for us. One other company barely glanced at what we had which made me think they would probably treat the installation the same way. After research I learned that the installation is probably more critical to the system performance than the system itself. Because of this I hired the people that seemed to know and care about what they were doing more than the others. Wow, was I right… During the install we ran into a lot of issues where the original builder of the home took shortcuts. Phillip could have ignored them, as would about 99% of HVAC guys, but instead he pointed them out and fixed them. No additional charge. Things like partially plug lines, crimped ducting, things at the wrong angles, etc., All fixed. He even moved my thermostat because it wasn’t in the optimal spot. No charge. The quality of the installation is also top notch. I’m also a civil contractor so know what to look for. I didn’t tell them that at first because I wanted to see if they would do things that others wouldn’t know to look for. I can honestly say that they do quality work beyond what normal HVAC guys would do. Be careful about going with the cheapest guy. Most work on commissions that are paid on job profitability. They won’t do any more than what is required to get the job done. In, out and they count your cash. Coastal Refrigeration, as I learned later, doesn’t work on commissions. They rely on doing the job right and hoping people like me recommend them to friends. That’s the right way to do business. Go with these guys. You won’t be sorry.

Our heater stopped working in the middle of the week and I called after reading positive reviews on Unilocal.Seth returned my call within minutes and came out that day to look at the issue. He brought his coworker Philip and within 24 hours my heater was completely replaced and all problems were solved. I can honestly Seth and Phillip worked one of the hardest 12 hour days that I have witnessed. We had to force them to take a lunch break and they stayed until every last piece was put in perfectly. Their attention to detail and quality of work is incredible. I would highly recommend this company for your air conditioning and heating needs.

Our furnace went out suddenly and of course when it was extremely cold. Called Costal 11/​16, arrived on time to check it out. Had new furnace installed the next day. Seth (owner), Phillip (installer), and Tyler (installer) are extremely knowledgable and friendly. Showed us how the previous furnace was not installed properly nor up to code. We know all is up to code and works perfectly. Already have shared the company’s information with other people, they are truly the best! Thank you for an excellent job well done!

I called Coastal on Wednesday morning as my furnace had stopped working the night before. They said they would be out by 2:30pm. At 2pm they called and said it would be later but they would be there. At 3:35pm Danny came and diagnosed the problem. A switch had to be replaced. He showed me how to jumper it so I could heat the house for a short time. He called the next morning and informed me that he had the part and would be there by noon. He kept his promise and fixed the furnace. All this great service at a very reasonable rate. Seth (owner) & Philip (crew member) installed an $ 8K home furnace and A/​C system for us. The estimate was right in line with the three others we obtained. Can’t emphasize how important it is dealing directly with the owner. All calls, before and after install, were answered promptly. I never detected any impatience with my sometimes silly questions. At one point (when the crew didn’t know I was listening) they discovered a glitch that was going to prolong the installation. The response: «Well, lets get started, we’ve gotta do it right».

This company is professional in all areas: answered my questions on the phone, showed up within the given time range, friendly and knowledgeable, efficiently diagnosed the problem and put in the new part that was needed and educated me on the lifespan of A/​C units and proper care (I had some torn insulation around the wires that they taped up for me). If you need help with your A/​C (or heating), I highly recommend Coastal.

our ac went out right before the heat started. Called Seth with coastal refrigeration because he was a local la costa guy with a small company. He came out the next day to look at our 25 year old system. We already planned on a complete replacement because of age. Seth is a very well trained technition that knows his business well. He is extremely honest and we trusted him immediately. We are happy we did because he and his guys did a fantastic job installing the new system. They worked 14 hours to get it in and it works great and has been prrfect. Susan and i highly recommend him.

Seth was so nice, very helpful and professional. He put air conditioning into our rental property and we were so impressed that we got him to install another unit in our house that we live in. Also when he says he will come back in a day or two to do something in my case it was to change the filters he really did come back in two days. We got three quotes he was the one in the middle but the one my husband felt he trusted the most and I have to agree it was a good choice. Would recommend this company to all my friends

I have remodeled 3 houses, all needed HVAC systems. I have not been very happy with the contractors I have used in the past. Coastal Refrigeration is an owner operated business, Seth the owner arrived on time. He was able to present me with a bid after perusing the job for about an hour. Since I have done 3 other houses and had another bid, I have heard more sales pitches than anyone should endure. Well, Seth is one of those people who is straight forward and honest, no crazy claims about how great his work is.
Seth showed me several options and, informed me about all incentives and rebates available. I knew his price was fair or better, and he would be on site. Seth did a large portion of the work himself. The help he did receive was from a guy who was very kind and respectful of our property. The new ducting was installed and suspended so others who do work in the attic will not crawl over and crush our new duct work. If you don’t want a lot drama, if you just want your hvac fixed and pay your bill. Then you won’t be disappointed if you use Coastal Refrigeration. I highly recommend Seth and his business, Coastal Refrigeration.

Seth is professional, knowledgeable, and honest. It one day my home had a high tech heating and cooling unit installed and it is so much more efficient than the one I had in the past. Top of the line service!

Of course our A/​C went out while the temperatures were hitting the 90’s and I was getting uncomfortable to say the least.
Seth (the owner I believe) showed up on time and was professional and friendly. He scoped out what was wrong and had our unit up and running in an hour or so. He took the time to show me what caused the issues and answer my questions about the chances of it happening again.
I will definitely be calling Seth the next time we need assistance with our A/​C unit.
