History

Established in 1988.

Artscapes first opened its doors as an art gallery and retail frame store in downtown Los Gatos. Word of our high quality work quickly spread, and some of the region’s most prominent collectors and curators began using our services. In 1992, we relocated to a large studio in Campbell in order to focus exclusively on custom framing. Today, our clients travel from throughout Northern California to entrust their art with us. Our clients have included Cantor Center for the Arts at Stanford University, de Saisset Museum, History Museums of San Jose, San Jose Textile Museum, and San Jose Museum of Art. We have provided services to many leading corporations including Google, AMD, Apple, and eBay. But among our favorite jobs have been personal projects featuring old family photos, kids’ paintings, and memorabilia. Business Owner

Glenn Young is a former commercial photographer with more than 20 years’ experience in framing and art preservation, Glenn is recognized both for his technical expertise and his design skills. He has worked with countless individual clients throughout the Bay Area and Hawaii, and on projects with leading private collections and museums, including the Cantor Art Center at Stanford University, de Saisset Museum, and San Jose Museum of Art.

Charly Leys joins Artscapes team after nearly a decade in the world of vintage posters and antiques. With a workshop in Sonoma County, she can meet with clients in her Santa Rosa design location or by appointment throughout the Bay Area. Having trained extensively with Glenn, she too is committed to furthering best practices and innovative techniques in the world of custom archival picture framing.

Cupertino, CA
Artscapes is the place to go for high quality or complex framing jobs. I’ve used them to frame a number of fine art pieces and their work can not be beat. They are especially good at framing large pieces. They are not cheap, but custom framing never is.
I have also used Michael’s custom framing in the past for lower end stuff. However, Michael’s quality has gone down and their prices have gone up, so I am using Artscapes for everything now.

I went in last week with five pieces that I wanted in one frame. I spoke with Randal, who was one of the nicest and helpful gentleman I’ve met recently. After showing Randal my pieces, I quickly knew it was not worth the cost to have them custom framed.
Knowing he was not going to make a dime from me, Randal still took the time to offer me multiple suggestions and even made notes for me knowing I had no clue. I ended up doing the job myself and have to admit, it came out better than I hoped. I’m sure those in the know would know right away it was done by an amateur (at best), but I’m quite happy with it.
It’s nice to find someone in business that truly cares about the people that come in their door and isn’t just trying to make a buck off them. If I have another piece worthy, I will definitely be back to have it framed here.

First, the good. I gave them a large photo for reframing. Not a piece of great art or anything, but a gift to me by the photographer many years ago, so it has great sentimental value to me. It was a fairly simple reframing, maintaining the original size and shape. They did a beautiful job. It went right back into its original spot on my wall, fit perfectly and looks great.
Now the less good. They are pricey, much more so than local competitors I’ve used in the past. Also, their customer service, at least in my case, left much to be desired. The job took more than twice as long as originally promised; ultimately about 9 weeks. Apparently they got a bad section of frame from their vendor, but they never called me to inform me of the delay. I had to call them when the expected completion date came and went without a word, and again multiple times thereafter to get status updates. A promise of a call back the following day with a definitive ETA was not kept. That’s unacceptable.
I have no complaints about the finished product. It’s beautiful. But the process was long, expensive, and at times a bit frustrating. Would I use them again? Maybe, now that I know what to expect, but my experience would definitely give me pause.

Located in the «industrial» section of Campbell in what I would call Los Gatos.
We’ve used them for some vintage posters. A good frame is everything, and your frame should reflect the art piece. In our case an original Corset Le Furet 1933 and Cendrillon 1899 posters found wonderful frames. It isn’t cheap, and it takes several weeks, but the quality is amazing. If you have a masterpiece of art you prize, don’t leave it to Michael’s framing, go ahead and get the best. Young is the owner and his team at Artscapes are professionals. Most of the local museums use them. Got a sneak peek at a collection that was getting ready for display at the Triton. Amazing work!

I had my «vintage» (circa 1995) Razzia poster framed at Artscapes, by recommendation by Vintage European Posters, who sold me the poster. The poster is large (4’x5’), and they handled the design process very well. They gave me options and helped pick out a frame that would go well with the print, as well as match our home. I looked at numerous other frame options I thought would look good in my mind, but ended up going back to the frame combination he picked originally. I’m happy I stuck with it (even though it was not one that I would’ve picked myself). The frame completely compliments the piece without distracting from it.
So the pricing is more than it would be from Aaron Brothers or Michael’s or other neighborhood framing shops, but I had the piece of mind that the frame would be quality and designed appropriately. Also, don’t come here if you are in a hurry. It took 4 weeks, so don’t expect it to be done overnight. The finished piece was bubble-​wrapped very well, so it wouldn’t be damaged in transport.

There are some that just have an eye for art and although they are not the artist they just know what color or wood might accentuate the artwork… that is what they do at artscapes they enhance your photo, your art work by their frames. They subtly draw your attention providing that perfect feeling when you look at it. The work of an artist is enhanced by the frame chosen and they do that perfectly. Custom work at affordable and reasonable rates! I have had over 5 pieces from priceless works of art to a simple poster. They are the best.

All of the artwork in my home has been framed by Artscapes. They have an impeccable eye for design, choosing frames and mats that accent artwork and explaining conservation in terms that make sense.

This is one of those places I was 250% happy with. I had 2 posters — 1 very large — framed there several years ago and these guys rocked it.
I was in a hurry, and while they couldn’t do it ‘next day’ (and really it was unfair of me to ask people who do such a fine job to ‘rush’) they did get it done in time for my family’s impending visit, and they even delivered the pieces (since my car would not accommodate the large size, they said they would do it, given the time constraint).
And the quality, craft, and care taken really exceeded my expectations.
The finish on the frame was some sort of smudge-​resistant material, and the UV plexiglass did the job as both clear /​light yet looked like heavy glass. :) They labeled the back with whatever information they could find about the artist, with my name on there — «collection of.» A nice touch.
The frames were as well-​executed as the art they present.
I just moved and since I had to re-​hang these posters, I was reminded of how satisfied I was (and still am), and thought I should reflect it here. If I could give 6 stars I would.

Artscapes did the framing for my first vintage poster of an Egypt travel poster of an amazing cat. They actually stored my poster for many months until I could get around to stopping by their shop. I was amazed at how many options there were and the process was a bit overwhelming. But Randy chose the perfect frame for my cat. Both Randy and Glen are true artists and craftsmen. My cat is on the perfect wall in my house, in the perfect frame… a perfect piece. I can’t wait for the next two posters they are working on. Again, the perfect frames of their own creation. I would only use them for artwork you love and want to preserve.

Artscapes understands how to handle valuable works of art, and their design ideas are really good. They are never pushy, and will listen to you about where your artwork is going and what your style is.
Glenn Young, the owner is a conservation consultant to the Stanford Museum among others, and I have been impressed with his knowledge and his research when a tough question arises.
I have seen the staff, Kathi, Sylvia and Randy go to great lengths to make a frame perfect. They inspect materials carefully and I have seen them meticulously polishing Plexiglas, and gilding finishes that to my eye already look pretty good.
Trust them with your artwork, they are not the fastest, but they are the best, and really, what mater the most with framing is the quality!
