Eco Dog NYC

Eco Dog cat sat while my family and I visited Europe for 2 weeks over the holidays. My Cat is scared of strangers and usually hides which i let them know before hand. They emailed me almost daily to give me updates and our cat came out of hiding the 3^rd day in and Loved playing with Rachel. She texted us pictures and it made our holiday so much calmer knowing he was safe. And they even watered our plants :)
I will definitely be using them again.

We used Eco Dog several times with our dog. Each time in dog sitting he came out very anxious and worked up. We came to realize the dogs are just put together unsupervised (and with mixed sizes and levels of aggression) in rooms – no people with them all day.
Once we were called to pick up the dog because he had diarrhea. I am certain they fed him some food (as was our vet), which they denied.
One day we left him for a full day, about 6 hours. Halfway through the day I came to take him for a walk, and much to my shock and amazement, they tried to prevent me from doing this. I said, «Hi, I’m here to take my dog for a quick walk.» They responded, curtly, «We don’t do that here.» They went on to insist it was inconvenient for them to get him out of the dog room (literally three feet from the entrance). It was unnerving that this was a point of discussion at all.
The weirdest thing – and the reason we won’t use them again – was the overnight. It took several phone calls (over a period of two weeks) to set up the overnight. Up to the day we left and beyond (and despite numerous request), we still had no contact information for the person who would be staying in our apartment. When I asked for an email address to send instructions, I was told to email the owner and she would pass it on. It was as if she wanted all communication to go through her.
Finally, with much prodding (I finally just declared that no one would be staying in my apartment overnight who I could not contact – and who could not contact me directly) I got a cell phone number. BUT, it was actually the sitter’s girlfriend’s cell (as we learned later). We discovered he didn’t even have the phone – she had it elsewhere and had to go up to our apartment to bring it to him. Totally unprofessional and inappropriate.
All our interaction has been somewhat weird – the owner and sales people seem disgruntled all the time and are very unpleasant. In fact, the people there don’t particularly seem to like dogs at all. It makes you wonder why they have this business.
We only used Eco Dog because it was so nearby – but never again.

I brought my cavalier king charles spaniel to get groomed here recently and had an excellent experience. The staff was very friendly and accommodating (they let me book an appointment last minute). They also did an excellent job with his grooming! Thank you Eco Dog!

I bring my husky here for grooming. The staff is always polite and friendly and making appointments is easy. My husky can be difficult and sometimes aggressive to groomers but the staff here never complain about it and always do an excellent job with her grooming. Also a good spot to get dog treats/​toys if you’re on the river side of Williamsburg.

Having recently transplanted to New York, we’ve become accustomed to some surprisingly brusque service. We expected that.
Our experience with Adrienne, the owner of Eco Dog, takes the prize, however, for simply unacceptable customer service from a Dog Grooming /​Doggy Daycare facility (or any business, for that matter).
We were trepidatious about bringing our two dogs here at first because of the poor reviews, specifically about the acerbic and rude behavior of the owner. But because their business is directly adjacent to our apartment (and other services are a half mile walk), we went against our better judgment and gave Adrienne an opportunity.
1. Upon our first visit, she spoke rudely to her assistant working beside her, and when I asked her questions about her experience, Adrienne commandeered the conversation, shut her down, and said flatly «she’s my new girl, I don’t know how she’ll do yet». Stunned, we hoped this was a one-​off situation and not the way this owner treated her employees or customers.
2. Don’t ask the owner to explain her pricing, and if you do, expect to be ignored. She’ll quickly call you back or return an email as long as you immediately accept her (higher than average) pricing for her services. But if you ask for more clarification of those prices, she will simply refuse to reply. After one particular email exchange, she replied, as if speaking to an imbecile: «As you have already learned from my previous emails».
3. We decided to go ahead and book a second dog grooming service, despite the fact that we had already experienced the above. When booking the appointment, we told Adrienne we’d drop the dogs off «around 9am». She did not specify that she runs her Grooming Service with surgeon’s efficiency, and that arriving past this hour was not acceptable.
We arrived after 9am, because in every dog grooming shop experience I’ve had, the drop off time is a general guideline, not a hard and fast deadline. Upon arrival, she gave a disgusted look at our dogs, then looked at us, shook her head and said, «You’re 45 minutes late!». I was stunned, and turned around. We will spend our dog grooming money elsewhere.
The bottom line is — I cannot speak to the competency of this shop to watch or groom your dogs; perhaps they do that well.
I can, however, warn those of you that object to spending your money with a schoolmarm scold who hasn’t the slightest inclination of customer service. If you are willing to abide 100% by her narrow windows of arrival, accept her pricing without explanation, and can generally tolerate being treated like a 10 year old by a woman *who owns a dog grooming shop*, then perhaps you’ve found the right shop.

Zoe has been getting haircuts here since we moved to the neighborhood. Friendly owner — I can tell she really cares about the dogs in her care! Groomer is great too, did a professional job and does it quickly too!

We have been bringing our mini aussie puppy for full time daycare at Eco Dog for the past 7 months. We had an experience at a previous daycare facility in Manhanttan where our puppy would claw his nails tightly onto the side walk and not move once we approached the daycare entrance. This is not the case at Eco Dog, our little goofball runs with excitement towards the daycare entrance every single day.
The owner, Adriene, is always helpful in suggesting great treats and toys specially geared for my little guy. She has suggested two durable and mentally stimulating toys that have been his absolute favorites. Their treats and toys are priced very competitively which is a major plus.
Kayla, who manages operations, is extremely knowledgeable and takes the time to explain certain behaviors, training methods, health care, etc. It is evident that she has the best interest of your pup in every aspect.
I absolutely recommend Eco Dog, your pup is in good hands!

Eco Dog has been incredibly helpful to me and my dog Bernie, in our endeavors of finding a convenient groomer. The service is phenomenal, the employees are very personable and always looking to help, prices are reasonable and they manage to make things work to fit your busy schedule. Today was my pitbull’s first day of daycare! My experience at Eco Dog NYC was everything I could have asked for. Adrienne, the owner, was extremely helpful and really thoroughly explained how the facility worked. I was told that my pup would have to do a half day trial to see how he managed with the other dogs… I was very nervous, but when I came in to pick him up, Adrienne assured me that he did great! I was so excited that he would have a great facility to socialize in!
I love that the pricing is affordable: 24 for a half day (5 hours) and only 34 for a full day (anything from 5 – 12 hours)! I also love that they have cameras that I can access online to check out what’s going on!
Eco Dog NYC is exactly what I was looking for! Thank you Adrienne and your staff for making everything to seamless and easy for me!

I don’t usually do this. I don’t ever put the time aside to complain about anything let alone a service I wasn’t provided, but this is just a mess. I just moved to the area about 2 months ago with my 5 month old beagle puppy and have been looking for a daycare to tire out my baby while I’m at work, plus they seemed to have a huge selection of treats & stuff. Like killing two birds with one stone, right… WRONG!
I walked in one afternoon, to browse their toys and food which were reasonably priced and there were dogs EVERYWHERE! In every nook and cranny! Dogs unattended in a tiny room, dogs alone and annoyed by passersby tapping on the window! There were dogs peeking through blinds from some type of office?
Anyway, in the actual daycare (which is just a moderate sized room) were about 25 – 30 dogs of all sizes and aggression! They had timid little Shih Tzu’s mixed with this very loud and seemingly unhappy Great Dane who was just in a fenced in area barking his head off. I couldn’t even think it was so loud in there and to top it off, one of the female workers were yelling, LITERALLY screaming at the dogs to stop barking!
Aren’t there other effective methods for this? Or couldn’t they find qualified people for this? It looked like a free for all in there! There was even a tiny dog cowering in the corner! There is absolutely no way I would ever bring my baby there, I’d much rather travel to the city and bring my dog to a daycare by my office.
I’m kind of bummed that this place is a circus. It would have been so convenient for me to bring my dog there but I’d much rather prefer him NOT to be yelled at or mingling with a dog 4x his size and with the temperament of a bear! Based on the super defensive responses given by the owner on here, I can only imagine what foolishness will be brought on my review.

I was originally nervous about coming here because of all the mixed reviews, but it was so ridiculously close to my apartment that I felt I had to try it. After my experiences, I won’t be coming back. I was treated poorly, my dog was hurt, and my finances were compromised.
I have had my Chow Chow groomed here twice. The first time was fine: the cut looked very nice and I had no issues. The second time I had problems:
When I picked up my dog, he looked great, and I wanted to tip. I paid by card and waited for the receipt, where there is usually a space to write in a tip amount. There was no space for that on the receipt, so I said to Adrienne (the owner), «Oh, how do I leave a tip?» She responds with a condescending «I wish I had known you wanted to leave a tip before I charged your card.» If you had known that there was no place on your receipt to leave a tip, you should have asked me up front if I wanted to tip. I have been to other groomers and they asked me before charging if I would like to tip, so it seems like common practice. Also the attitude was not necessary.
I tell her I want to leave a $ 20 tip and that she can just charge my card $ 20. She says no, she’s going to void the first transaction and recharge the grooming and tip. I point out that there will be an authorization hold on my card and that I don’t have enough money in my account for 2 full charges. She reassures me that no authorization hold is placed on the cards until she finalizes her paperwork at close of business. Sounds fishy to me, but she knows her business, so I let her proceed. Surprise, the card declines the full amount and somehow only charges $ 20. She then tells me I need to call my credit card company to have them reverse the original charge, and looks up the number and calls on her company phone behind her desk. I have to go behind the desk and give my social security number and PIN with her standing right there. Meanwhile, she apologizes for the confusion and offers me a bone for my dog for the trouble. The credit card company tells me that I need to wait for the authorization hold on my card to complete before those funds become available again. So she tells me she’ll wait to see if the charge ever goes through, and if/​when it doesn’t, she’ll call me and I’ll need to come back in to pay for the grooming.
We leave and she conveniently forgets to give me the bone she promised. I’m not the sort of person to ask her about the treat she offered as a kindness, so I leave it at that.
As I’m walking home, I notice my dog is limping. When I get home (a couple blocks away), he tries to lay down and Unilocal,and holds one of his hind legs awkwardly in the air. I inspect and don’t see any cuts, but he’s very hairy so it’s difficult to see. I do see a somewhat shredded toenail on the leg that’s hurting him, though. I call back Eco Dog and ask to speak with the groomer. The groomer tells me she’s not aware of anything happening to injure my dog, and that he’s probably just tired from standing up for so long. I then tell her I noticed the shredded toenail, and she says she «didn’t even touch his toenails.» She tried, and he didn’t like it and she thought he didn’t really need toenail clipping anyway, so she stopped. Right. Well, my dog wasn’t hurt before I brought him to you.
Also, I noticed that he still had some matting around his ears. My dog is extremely hairy, and gets knots and mats in hard-​to-​reach, sensitive areas, like behind his ears. When I’ve taken him to other groomers, they were very careful to point out to me where his matting was, and what they had to do to remove it. The Eco Dog groomer didn’t even touch his matting and just left it there to pull on his ear.
Adrienne called me 2 weeks ago to let me know the charge never went through and I need to come back in to pay. I have been in twice since that phone call (once the next day after work, when I said I would be there, and she wasn’t there and the person working the desk couldn’t help me) and once a few days ago (same result). I know I have to pay for the grooming, but I definitely want my overly-​generous tip back. And I’m nervous to go in there and tell Adrienne that, because she has a very customer-​negative attitude when it comes to questioning her business practices. It’s not going to be an «I’m sorry, I should have handled the situation better. I’ll remove the $ 20 tip from the price of the grooming» conversation. It’s going to be «Well, we already gave that tip to the groomer, and that doesn’t go toward the price of the grooming.» I don’t care. You hurt my dog, you were unprofessional, and ignorant of how your own business works at my expense, right around the holidays. No thank you. You may be convenient, but if that is your only redeeming quality, I’ll make something else work.
My advice to those considering this place: the 5 star reviews are mostly coming from people who have been here once or twice. This is not a good business.

I was looking to give my pup a good haircut and most places were booked. Echo dog was available to take my dog in and gave her a great haircut which is growing out nicely! Good location and great service!

We’ve had a hard time finding a quality place in Williamsburg to get our dog groomed however our search is over. Totally satisfied with Eco Dog and their service. I Recommend to bring in pictures of your dog freshly groomed the way you like it and they will mimic pretty well. Thanks Eco Dog.

Our dog loves Eco Dog. There are times when I take her out at night that she will drag me over to the Eco Dog storefront and stare longingly inside, even though it’s closed for the night. I’m not kidding; this actually happens. The fact that she loves it so much makes me think that they must be taking very good care of the dogs there. I have also run into some of the employees out on the street when I’m walking my dog, and they always remember her name and seem genuinely happy to see her. And my dog seems genuinely happy to see them. My only complaint is that they close at 8PM, earlier on Saturdays, and are closed on Sundays. I totally understand that people need time off. However, the hours mean that I can no longer take my dog there, as I often don’t get home on weeknights until just after 8PM. So sad. Consider staying open a touch later! You would totally have my business 100%!

I am really confused by all the one star reviews here. My Miniature Schnauzer was in desperate need of a haircut and with the holiday weekend it was impossible to even get in anywhere this week. They fit me in an Unilocal provided a voucher (which I forgot to use lol) so I decided to give them a shot. Went in for a haircut today and I am more than pleased with the outcome. They listened to every thing I wanted done and even added a little something to make my dog more comfortable which I super appreciated! I definitely will be going back and not just because I have a voucher!

We came in the other day to purchase dog food and treats for our 2 little ones. Our pug had his nails clipped, as well. ($ 15)
The owner, Adrienne, is very nice and always comes over to talk to you and ask about our favorite products (she seems genuinely interested in carrying stock that is curated by her customers, a smart lady!). Eco Dog offers grooming, doggie day care and dog walking services, which must be very helpful for a lot of the working class in Williamsburg. The facility if clean and bright. You can watch the dogs playing from outside, although they ask that people refrain from touching the glass to avoid upsetting the dogs inside.
We’ve enjoyed stopping in to grab treats, food or even just to say hi. They are all very friendly here.

I use Ecodog for a lot of my dog’s needs. They’re helpful, friendly, and care about their dogs. They’ve really put a lot of effort into making Ecodog feel like a neighborhood pet shop including things like 10% products for regular customers and discounted daycare packages. I’ve used them for everything since my dog was a pup, so I’ll go through them all.
Daycare: They offer doggy daycare during store hours. They’re convenient, either picking up or dropping off dogs if need be, and it offers a good release for energetic dogs. They always have someone in with the dogs, but I feel like they need more people with the large amount of dogs they deal with sometimes. They give the dogs walks during the day, but they still pretty much go wherever they want indoors. This has never put my dog behind on his housetraining. I do feel like my dog has picked up some bad habits from other dogs, like barking, but we’ve been able to deal with this easily. Sometimes my dog comes back smelling a little funky, but we wipe him off and he’s usually better.
Bathing/​grooming: Ecodog also offeres grooming. I’ve had my dog groomed by both groomers and they’re always good and through. They offer sensitive products for dogs if need be. They always do what I ask them and do it well, but I overheard one customer arguing with the male groomer because he didn’t shave his dog. Honestly, I was on the side of the groomer. Who would shave their longhaired dog even if the weather is changing?
Management/​staff: The management and staff are delightful. I sometimes feel like the staff is overwhelmed by the sheer amount of dogs, but they do their job well. The management really puts an effort forth to help their customers. I was getting my dog’s food from another store and was paying way too much for it… she got me a bag the next week and put it aside for me and undercut my old store by a good 20 dollars. She now purchases it regularly for me. She always keeps her customers in mind, and for that, I am grateful to have them down the street.
Training: This is really a review for Andrea Arden Dog Training, but they hold classes and Ecodog that I would recommend to anyone, even if their dog has already been trained. Alison is amazing and did wonders with my dog.
Overall, I’m very comfortable putting my dog in the hands of Ecodog. They’re prices are reasonable if you use them often enough, and the service and kindess will more than make up for any hit on your wallet. I completely recommend them to dog owners in the area.

I hate to do this but I need to write an update to this review.
I still stand by the fact that Eco Dog are very good to your dog. One thing we were very saddened by over the last few months of taking our dog here though was the strained relationship we had with the owner. I understand that when something that is your passion becomes a business, you feel an emotional tie to it’s success, however I do not think it’s appropriate for that to cloud the maintainance of a professional relationship with paying clients.
This feeling was a slow process for us, but the best example was one night when a best friend had arrived from Sydney — we hadn’t seen each other in years. We were out in the city, and I was sharing the news of my pregnancy. I’m ashamed to say that my husband and I both thought the other had organized for the dog to be dropped off at home. Basically we forgot her. It’s awful, I know.
We called in a panic at 8.30pm, which is a half hour later than they close, and apologized profusely. We asked for a drop off and agreed to pay the late fee that is half a day’s worth of daycare — $ 15 (for a half hour) plus $ 5 for dropoff without any question at all. Seemed to me to be enough of a punishment, but unfortunately not.
The next morning we dropped off our dog and my husband, on his way to work, got a stern lecture from the eye rolling moody owner about it. We also heard from the girl who stayed the half hour with our dog that the owner was ‘angry’ and had said we were ‘unacceptable’ (she actually defended us saying we’d only done it once ever).
After that, I found the money spent with this place not to be a pleasure, but a sadness. I pride myself on being courteous to others and I feel that their business model should either be that you charge and don’t lecture, or don’t charge and lecture if you feel it necessary. We certainly were not sitting on pots of money at all for this, so a half days cost for 30 minutes, and not least the guilt for the dog and employee, definitely got our attention.
They could, in fact have easily made the call to take our dog home of their own accord, they had done that plenty of times before, but they chose not to. I was a loyal and pleased customer of EcoDog, but I hate to say this incident was one of the final causes of us giving our dog a new home with my father in law in Ohio (she now has a wonderful life chasing squirrals all day!) But for us it became too much. Support for when you are at work full time to help you maintain care of an animal should be non judgemental and easy. That’s it’s purpose, and if they can’t get that right then they shouldn’t be in this business.
