St Julien Hotel and Spa

We had a total of 8 of us at a corporate event for 2 nights, and 2 of us got nasty food poisoning from the food they catered to our meeting at the hotel. My colleague and I threw up all evening. We were incapacitated in the room, and when I called the manager on duty and asked for a break on one night of the room charge, he was hostile and rude. Didn’t even offer a cup of tea or water, or even some medicine. Just wanted to argue about what he couldn’t do. Then I called the next morning and discussed the situation with that manager, and she hung up the phone on me. When I asked if they removed the bad food there was no definite answer… they blamed someone else. Terrible place, terrible staff, unprofessional. Either too young and inexperienced, or just plain rude. They don’t seem know the meaning of «hospitality» even though they are in the hospitality industry. Very stubborn and difficult, even after food poisoning and a terrible stay. Definitely an experience I’ll be talking with others about.

11:45 pm… Alone, went skiing all day and sore. I ask to sit in the jacuzzi. The old preposterously rude security guard says NO, then I ask him one more time politely and he threatens to evict me by calling the police, disgusting. THIS HOTEL IS TERRIBLE. CUSTOMER SERVICE??? I DEMAND AN APOLOGY.

Hands down, the finest hotel in Boulder. What makes it special is the staff. And the mattresses. And the spa. And the restaurant. It’s all good. I wouldn’t stay anywhere else.

This review concerns only the service in the bar and bar lobby extension. I have been there several times when they have live music. It’s a great atmosphere; but alas, the service is very lacking. The wait staff tend to ignore you until they’re good and ready. I sat at a recently vacated table with a friend. A waitress came and cleared the table, without even looking at us, or saying she’d be right with us. It was incredible! Several minutes passed before, yes, the very same girl came to ask, «do you want anything?». We did have drinks and when we paid the bill, she took our cash, and 15 minutes later I had to flag her down and ask for our change. This is not a one-​time thing, folks. I think the waitstaff there feels privileged because they work in an expensive hotel. Or something. Get your own drink at the bar if you can, but watch your change, as I’ve been short-​changed there 3 times.

DO NOT GO TO THE SPA. I REPEAT– DO NOT GO TO THE SPA!!! my mom and I went for a massage and they were awful. For how expensive they are they should be amazing but NO… It was very choppy and they didn’t even put anything over my eyes when I turned to the front side, maybe it’s just me being picky, but I was NOT impressed with it with how expensive the massage was. Save your money and go somewhere else.

Was expecting a little more from this hotel. Main issue is that there were flies all around the windows when we came in. Flying everywhere. Buzzing around. It was so gross. I should have complained, but didn’t. Then later at night we were so thirsty that I needed more bottles of water. I called room service 3 times and each time left a message. Never returned a call. Needless to say no water. Poor service on their behalf. Facility was nice enough, but kind of «stuffy». I think my expectations were higher.

Fun cocktails and a very pretty ambiance in the bar. I had some kind of fruity drink and it was good (and strong!). The tuna tartare and fish tacos were amazing. Live music and pretty light-​filled lobby.
I had a wonderful time and would definitely go back.

Can’t wait to stay here again. No shortage of bell or reception staff when I arrived at 10p. The hallways are winding which is a nice change from the long runways of the bigger hotels.
My room was very spacious, good desk and chair and plenty of outlets.
The pillows were fine, the mattress humped in the middle but I didn’t care as it was comfy.
Best toiletries collection I have seen in a while-​the bath salts were delightful for soaking in that huge tub. The shower was so ideal, I didn’t want to get out, but it did lack a place to prop up a leg for shaving. Two robes that weren’t sketchy made me happy.
But it was the chocolate marshmallow cookies at turndown time that won the day. That and the rheostat light in the bathroom, which all hotels should add. Oh and also the hairdryer was fabulous.
Walking distance to great restaurants and shopping in the cute part of Boulder.

Terrible service
We were greeted at reception by a not so nice person who said the hotel was full because we asked for an upgrade! Come to find out that it was not at all full The second night coat more and they had less occupancy. The most disturbing thing was the room service people just couldn’t figure it out!
I hope they find some more enthusiastic employees and impress upon them better behavior!
Will not likely go back to this hotel!

Handsome hotel with fabulous staff!
We stayed in August for a week. When our first room wasn’t right, the manager reacted with pleasant, prompt professionalism and had us moved the next day — by the staff while we were out. Perfect. In every area of the hotel, the abundant staff was courteous, responsive and polite. By day two, we were being greeted by name. From the front desk staff, to room service to valet, to restaurant and spa personnel, we were impressed with the level of service provided.
This hotel is the best in Boulder. Its downtown location is convenient and shops and restaurants are abundant! The hotel itself is attractive and the rooms are nicely decorated. Spa services are very good. The only thing that detracts is a somewhat noisy locale. Some noise is audible from both the traffic in the area as well as entertainment at the hotel itself. But, easily overlooked — especially if you can see the mountains!

Pedicures for two lady friends — PLUS wine. What more could you ask?
I love that the pedicures are in an area with people watching windows & light. The two ladies who take care of us were very friendly and efficient.
A very nice relaxing experience and great way to spend a vacation afternoon.
The St. Julien is a beautiful hotel that’s worth a stop to see while in Boulder.

What a beautiful space! Had a great experience in the ballroom for an event. I love all the art in the halls! Service was great, too!

Beautiful hotel in a great location in Boulder. Close to pearl st. Mall and walking/​biking paths. Nicest hotel around. I would not recommend with kids. Romantic hotel.

This review is for the hotel room as well as the spa services we received. My husband and I visited for our 5^th anniversary, and wanted something nice and a little fancy. The price tag is definitely on the fancy level. We purchased the serenity package, which included one night in a regular room facing the street, a welcome drink for each of us in the hotel bar, 260 spa credits (130 each), and a 40 dollar credit for breakfast that could be used for room service or at the hotel restaurant, Jill’s. The price tag was around $ 600. I had been calling for 3 weeks prior to our arrival to attempt to secure a late checkout, as our spa treatment was scheduled for 10am on Saturday, the day we were supposed to check out at 11am. I kept being told to ask upon check-​in (knowing that was probably too late to make such a request), but when checking in, was told that they were full and I would have to leave my bags at concierge and then change at the spa. This does not seem like the type of service I would expect for such a pricy establishment supposedly bent on customer service and with whom I had booked such an expensive package. After talking with the front desk and explaining my concerns, our checkout was delayed to 1pm. Thank you, was that so hard?
The room was very nice, with a great soaking tub and nice shower, and comfortable bedding. we were unfortunately facing some ugly construction, so we kept the shades drawn.
Saturday morning, we got up and ventured down to Jill’s for breakfast. It was great overall — more on that in the actual Jill’s review.
We then went to our spa appointment, which was a 75 minute couples massage that we had been looking forward to for months. I had specifically requested a larger robe when I booked the appointment a month in advance, as I am a plus sized girl, and I told them my specific clothing size. They told me that would definitely have something to accommodate me. Upon arrival, I had to again request a larger robe and was kept waiting for 15 minutes. Finally, a young blonde girl arrived and sort of threw the robe at me and said, «sorry, we didn’t have any and I had to go in the back» and while I was telling her to please stay while I checked that it fit, she had already gone. Of course, it didn’t fit. It wasn’t even close. I walked around searching for another person to help and finally found a girl restocking towels, and I asked her if there were any larger robes than the one I had. She said she would be happy to go and check and that I could sit in the lounge and she would find me. A little while later, she and concierge manager arrived in the lounge with horrified looks on their faces. The manager proceeded to tell me that they had never encountered this before, and that she would be happy to «run to Macy’s» and get me a robe. I told her that was not required, and asked if I could simply disrobe in the treatment room. She continued to apologize to me and told me that she would be happy to go and get a robe for me at a store. I told her that we didn’t really have time to wait, as our service was approaching and we were already going to be pushing our checkout time. I told her that I appreciated her willingness to help, but that I was disappointed that I had been specifically told they would have something to accommodate me, and I felt lied to. Additionally, I’m sure I’m not the only big girl who gets spa services, and they may want to consider ordering some large robes to accommodate future guests. Suffice it to say, this embarrassed me to no end, and my day was basically ruined. I did enjoy the massage, but I felt singled out and embarrassed, and not at all pampered like I had wanted to feel for the money we spent on the weekend. They did end up comping us about 20 dollars.
Overall, the hotel is nice. The rooms are very clean, and the tub is great for that relaxing soak we all need from time to time. I would not go back to the spa, even though the concierge did try to solve the problem. I have been to many, many spas and this is the first time I have ever been told that they didn’t have a big robe. I know this is Boulder, the land of the healthy, land of the un-​fat, but you have to know that everyone likes to be pampered.

Gorgeous boutique hotel in Boulder that is provides an awesome home base if you are trying to explore downtown. The rooms are super luxurious. The beds are like clouds — SO COMFORTABLE.
Truly an exquisite place to stay. Wish I could have visited their Spa, I’m sure it’s awesome!

Ok, wow, I didn’t expect my boyfriend to get put up in a AAA 4 diamond hotel for his business trip. This hotel is beautiful from the outside and the king size room is gorgeous too, with double doors to the bathroom and beautifully-​tiled floor and walls. It’s in the middle of all the hot spots for happy hour and food; it’s a 5 minute walk from the Pearl Street Mall.
From the lobby, there’s access to the hotel bar and Jill’s Restaurant. Hit up Jill’s for their amazing Happy Hour! They have live entertainment in the evenings in the lobby and a fire going in the fireplace. There’s access to the spa from the street if you’re not staying at the hotel as well.
Valet parking is really cheap! It’s only $ 20 a day for overnight parking with in and out privileges. The guys manning the door are great; they’re courteous and remember your name if you pick up your car from them.

These 5 stars are for service only. We did not stay overnight, but spent the day there visiting family who were.
First, let me just say that I have a 10 week old baby and getting out of the house at all is a miracle. Getting out of the house looking civilized is impossible. Since the hotel has a reputation for being really nice I was kind of expecting to get the cold shoulder in my jeans and ratty tshirt. Whatever. Not the case AT ALL. From the second I pulled up to valet my (very dirty) truck we were treated SO well. Everyone working in the lobby made it a point to come see my daughter and even asked if there was something they could get me when she started crying. After spending the day there the valet men pulled my truck around, helped me bundle «Miss Cameron» up, push her stroller through the snow and loaded her strolled for me. I’ve just got to say that everyone there was beyond kind and thoughtful.
We also ate lunch at the restaurant there. My mom mentioned to the server in passing that I can’t have any dairy and he promptly went and got the chef. He came out and ended up making me an entire dairy free meal. He spent a few minutes at our table talking to my family and I and was just the nicest person.
I should add that we did spend time in one of the rooms while my daughter took a nap and they were very nice as well. But if you’re looking to feel completely spoiled, even in jeans and a tshirt, this is the place to stay. I’ve never received such amazing service.

This was our second visit to the St Julien Hotel and Spa this year. The first time was just my wife and I for a weekend away without the kids (yeah!), and this time we brought them along as well (all three of them) for a nice Holiday vacation.
I will summarize by saying it was a spectacular 5 day stay. The service we received from the valets, bellman, check-​in desk, room service and servers (at both the bar and restaurant) was great. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and it felt like they all really cared about what we needed. The rooms were great — good sized, very well appointed and we had great views. We also spent a lot of time in the heated pool — even when it was sub-​zero outside — it was great inside. Literally the only hiccup during the whole trip that I personally experienced was that the fitness center was out of cups for water on one day.
A superb hotel for both a romantic getaway — and a trip with the family. It is in a great location with a ton of superb restaurants within walking distance. Great service. i strongly recommend going here and can’t wait to visit again.

St Julien afternoon tea on Saturdays in the Lobby.
We celebrate my daughter’s birthday each year with tea at the St Julien, and each time it’s a special treat. From the atmosphere, with pianist, tablecloth with beautiful china and fresh flowers to the food, everything is perfect.
The food was delicious and beautifully presented (mint macarons, tiny cheesecakes, mini sandwiches, scones and much more…).
We’ve tried other places for tea (Brown palace, Dushanbe), but always go back to the St Julien.

Weekend stay for 2 during the great rain of 2013. Hotel was supporting hundreds of folks that were relocated due to the floods. This was a tragic time for many in the community, and folks on the staff.
Staff was friendly and attentive — in the midst of all the flood activity.
Room 357 was suggested as a flatiron view room. Great view of flatirons, but also window opens to a noisy intersection (9^th and canyon), a view of the guest sitting one floor down eating their lunch and courtyard where wedding was running until midñight with loud music.
Plus side — this place is walking distance to great restaurants and shopping. You can’t beat the location.
Nicely furnished room, clean, friendly hotel staff. Closets are part of the central media/​drawer unit. Very interesting stone in the shower/​bathroom.
Lobby area is great (snagged drinks at T-​zero bar and watched some football) a giant hearth, plenty of couches, chair etc.) Very warm and inviting. T-​zero is an experience in itself — almost like an ‘ice-​bar’ from the looks, with interesting custom drinks.
Pool looks like amazing (indoor) and great looking spa services (we didnt check this out).

Met a few CU students working their way through college as staff — they were great — pleasant, knowledgeable, eager and attentive — great integration between edu and business here.
Might be «the» five star place in Boulder — need to check out a few others to confirm.
