We Honey Do

DON’T USE THIS COMPANY!!!
In late January of 2015 I paid
Metzger in advance $ 3679.20 to contact their architect and have plans drawn up for an addition to my home. Included in that payment was the cost of the permits for this project as well so
Metzger could pick up the permit. Eric’s project manager decided not to go with their architect so I found an architect myself and dealt directly with him to get the plans drawn up. Eric never once offered to pay the architect with the money I had already given them for this expense so I had to pay him out of pocket. After I had all the drawings, I went to the city with the project manager and purchased the permits and paid for them out of pocket, neither Eric nor the project manager offered to pay from the money I had already given them for this expense. Fast forward to October 2015, I was going through all my receipts, realized that Eric had not paid for these items (I had) and I contacted
via email with all the receipts to request a refund. I heard nothing for 2 weeks so I sent another email and followed up with a phone call. The employee said Eric would call me back. Eric instead sent an email saying he was checking into it. 11 Emails were exchanged over a span of 10 weeks (he refused to call me even though I called him 4 different times, I have phone records to show this). Eric stated that the project manager, who no longer worked for him, had all the paperwork for my remodel and he was waiting to hear back from him. What kind of business owner lets previous employees take business documents with them when they leave employment? Mid January 2016 he sent a check for $ 2000. In the statement he included, it showed a charge of $ 1600.00 for time spent on my architect drawings by his project manager. I have asked him for documentation showing what his ex employee did so I can understand his $ 1600 fee and he has refused to send it to me. From what he said in previous emails to me, it’s because he doesn’t have it, his ex employee does. If he was keeping better track of his business he would’ve never let an ex employee leave with those documents and he would’ve known he took payment for a service he did not provide. Ridiculous, he is charging me for a service he did not provide. Luckily, I have all of this documented via email since Eric refused to talk to me on the phone.
I handled 99% of what I had paid this company to do. I did all the work, his company did nothing to facilitate obtaining the architect, the architect drawings, the mechanical engineer drawings or the permit. I even had to wait a week to obtain the permits because Eric’s license had expired and he hadn’t paid his re-​licensing fees. I had to drive back down to city hall and pick up the permit a week later.
Needless to say, we decided not to hire them to do the addition, we went with someone else. I cannot believe he is refusing to refund me since it is so blatantly clear that he did not provide the service that we paid him for. It’s not that he did a bad job… He just didn’t do the job at all!!!

Ok, so, hmmmmm. Where to begin with this one.
I don’t usually write bad reviews, because being a biz owner myself, I understand how important pleasing a client is. But that’s the biggest problem I have with this company. They didn’t behave as thought «pleasing the client» was in their mission.
Here the short version:
We hired WHD to work on a few small projects in our house: install a dishwasher, install and run plumbing for a washer dryer on main floor, install a new vent hood and stove, and repair a squeaky and loose board in our softwood floors.
The quote seemed very reasonable, and the man who bid the job seemed to know what he was talking about, so we went for it.
The kitchen work, (stove, vent, dishwasher, install washer/​dryer), all went fairly well, except it took almost twice as long as quoted and they cut the hole for the dishwasher with (what looked like) a beaver on a stick. It’s all jagged and looked pretty awful but the dishwasher works.
The big problems happened with the plumbing for the washer dryer, and the floor repair. Basically the bidder told us they could do the plumbing, but then when the workers came to do it, they claimed they didn’t feel comfortable. After an hour or so, a plumber arrives and we are confused, we call the bidder/​job manager and ask why he’s there, turns out one if the workers called his friend in to do the plumbing. Then it turns out that the job required a licensed plumber anyway, and the bidder said «well then I guess it’s lucky for you that I quoted you for a licensed plumber, because the cost will probably stay around the same! I’ll just make less money on it». Ummmm. Great. There was more mess but that’s about the gist.
Then, the floor. Omg. We have gorgeous aged fir floors in our house, stained a deep mahogany with aged cherry undertones. There was an area that was bothering us, where previous owners had taken out a duct and installed the floor in a patch-​like section, in a high traffic area. The section had a squeak when we first moved in but it had started to give a lot, and we couldn’t see what was happening from the basement. So, all I had him bid was to repair the squeak, or make it so the boards were shimmed and wouldn’t «give» so much when walked on. He aid they could repair it no problem. In the quote it said they would match the material (our original floor) and replace/​repair the problem. So, the bidder/​manager shows up with Lumber Liquidators stock prestained garbage, and it was MAPLE, AND it was like chocolate brown. Our floors looked orange in comparison. So, I kindly said «this material doesn’t match at all color-​wise, and it’s maple, which would wear differently, because our floors are fir». The manager said «your floors are maple». We argued about it for awhile, I said I didn’t want him to take out any more of our floor until I saw well color matched material. He told me I’d «live with it for the weekend and if we didn’t like it, they’d come back, sand the stain off, restain it in place». It was a nightmare because I’ve worked with wood for years and knew that wouldn’t work for many reasons. So, he basically was rude and condescending, broke eye contact with me and just started working on it. So, the new floor looked awful and was at least ¹⁄₁₆^th thicker than our existing floor, so it looked like a patch of laminate stuck onto a 1915 fir floor. Which is what I told him it would look like.
So we called and of course said we didn’t like it, they’d have to indeed come back to do whatever to fix it, and we were met with opposition. I wasn’t going to have that crap toxic floor in my house so I called Ballard Reuse and asked if they had any fir reclaimed flooring, and liw and behold, they did. Exact same stuff, $ 3.00/sqft. Excellent! I went and got it, sanded it, stained it to match exactly (which the job manager now said «couldn’t be done, impossible»), and then we had their worker install our project.
While the color is a perfect match now, our floor is pretty much toast. It’s lumpy because the reclaimed boards weren’t all exactly the same thickness, and when they installed it they shimmed it here and there to try to get it level, but it’s not. The worker did the best job he could.
When I told Eric about the project issues, he claimed that the manager’s story contradicted mine. He sounded like he believed I was the «hysterical female client» who doesn’t really know what she wants, only to take indecision out on the contractor. Not so, folks. They botched this job big time, and admitted to overcharging us for labor for their non licensed plumber.
The workers we had in our home for many days were all very kind, they worked very hard, and they got the job done.
But I will caution anyone considering using this company that they should be leery of the bidder and make sure they get an honest quote. It also came in over twice what they quoted, and they included the cost of labor on the botched floor.

The younger male tech they have was able to do what several GE repairmen, a plumber and even another Honey Do tech could not do: trouble shoot our lack of water pressure to our refrigerator down the root cause and diligently complete the necessary repair.
I had literally given up on having pressure enough to not stand at the refrigerator for 5 minutes to get a glass of water, purchasing water service from a dispenser but I’m now rethinking that thanks to this young man at Honey Do.
He relentlessly and doggedly traced each valve and pipe until he discovered the root cause and I was thoroughly impresssed with the quality of his work and the Honey Do experience.
To say they are perfect would not be accurate, in full disclosure. But, as with this experience, they show flashes of brillance. World class professionalism. Worth the shot for household repairs you perhaps might not know how to do, don’t have the time for or even just need a man (or woman) to give you a hand.

We hired WHD to do about $ 11k worth of bathroom and attic work for a house we purchased. Without going into lurid detail, the contractor, Mark, botched the job and then asked to be paid. We brought in an inspector to see if the job had been done correctly, and it was found that most of the attic work hadn’t actually been performed. Other parts of the job remained incomplete or completed incorrectly. We were initially quite irate.
Eric eventually reached out to us to see what had happened. He was very apologetic and came to inspect the house himself. He explained how Mark had left several other jobs in disarray before leaving town without warning. He knocked $ 1k off of the price and sent folks to fix the mistakes one by one until the job was done right.
I admire his willingness to stand by his company and to clean up the mess that a bad employee made, even though I imagine he lost money on the job by doing so. As a result, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt that WHD is a decent company that simply had a bad experience with a particular former employee.

I hired We Honey Do to help me get my house ready to sell. From the time I called them to the time I received my receipt it was an outstanding experience. Ivan was the person sent to help with my repairs. Everything was done quick clean and very professional. He was right on time both time he worked for us. Came up with cost saving ideas for some of the repairs was super nice and friendly. I would highly recommend this company for any home repair!

Responsive and fair. The team at We Honey Do provides a ton of services.
I have asked them to bid on numerous projects for me and have referred them many times.
Lots of contractors give my clients higher bids based on their zip codes. We Honey Do has never done that.
I rely on them for advice and quotes and repairs regularly.

I want to try to be as objective/​specific as possible. First let me explain our reason for contacting this company. We found a leak in our kitchen (causing the hardwood floors to buckle), so we called this company to come out and take a look for us. They were very responsive in coming out. Their customer service manager took the time to explain the process of filing an insurance claim and what the potential scenarios would be.
There were several follow up visits to find the actual leak, one failed temporary repair and then the leak was fixed. They removed the warped flooring and were stated they would get a hold of our insurance adjuster to get the estimate written.
All good so far. The adjuster provided a scope of what he would initially pay for and cut us a check in a super short time frame. Then the wheels fell off… almost zero follow up from their company, my wife and I constantly had to hound them for an update. We tried leaving voicemails, email and texts, which were all slowly followed up on. We point blank asked the customer service manager what we should do with the check, but he never told us what to do. There was a steady stream of excuses and at the 7 week point (post initial removal of flooring) there still hadn’t been an estimate written or work scheduled. At that point there was some ‘personnel issues’ and the owner had to step in to take care of us. Well, that was fruitless. We gave him our initial check, but 3.5 weeks later still nothing had been started.
Finally, after 12 weeks (yes… 12 weeks) and no work accomplished or even scheduled, we had to fire them and move on to manage the project ourselves.
There was a steady string of excuses for every aspect of their failure to complete the work or provide us updates. I put in more time working on my own insurance claim then my contractor ever did, which in it of itself is pretty sad, being that we were trying to «pay» them. Sadly, I think they are so out of touch with actual customer service that they actual thought all of the excuses were somehow meaningful and actually started getting mad at me for constantly following up and wanting status updates.
I wouldn’t recommend this company for any work that you want completed timely or with any kind of customer service. My family had a miserable experience with this company and I certainly wouldn’t wish that on anyone.
They know who is writing this review so it is literally impossible that they could even comment on any aspect of this review, unless… wait for it… they will make even more excuses… I won’t hold my breath, please don’t either.

They wasted my time. They asked me to send pictures of the project, then said they’d call back that day to discuss. 4 days later, I emailed to ask what was up, and got a terse response saying they’re busy but will contact me when they can. Never heard back.
. update a few weeks later: now I found out they added me to their email list without asking so I’m getting spammed by them. So they responded rudely to my email to tell me not to bother them, but they did me the favor of adding me to a spam list. Great.

This company was recommended by our Realtor and did a great job for us! They juggled their schedule to accomplish a list of repairs the home inspector recommended that we have done before an open house the very next day. The repairman, Ivan, arrived on time and accompanied us down to Lowe’s to purchase the materials we needed. He then worked five hours straight to get the job done. He worked efficiently and quickly. The cost was considerably less than we anticipated – around $ 570 for labor + materials.
We very much appreciated the willingness of this company to work with us around such a tight timeline and at a reasonable cost. We’ll be calling them again – probably soon after we move to our new home.

Did not complete the job that we contracted them to do. Became argumentative with the client when they wouldn’t complete the job. Still charged us for half of the job. I think they should change the name to «We Honey Don’t».

I am very happy that I chose this company to do my work. It seems it is very difficult these days to find a company, involving any type of service, that does a great job and at a fair price. I have used many different kinds of service from painters, carpet cleaners, pressure washers, floor installers, carpet installers, window replacements and so on, in the past few years. The workmanship on all of them was terrible as far as I am concerned. I am very particular and like jobs done well but I don’t think my standards are unreasonable. It seems they all make a bid then want to get in and out as fast as possible, pay little attention to detail, half ass the job, get their money and go. To me it is shocking. I point out problems, they make an attempt to make it better but after so many times it us about as useless as they are.
This is the first time, in a long time that I am completely happy and impressed with the workmanship, professionalism and overall dealings with the job. Mark is very skilled and an awesome person to work with from start to finish. I would not hesitate to use Honey We Do again and recommend them to all of my friends.

Thanks to Eric and his crew for being the kind of company I can depend on when it really counts. In the past month, I have had a short in my electrical panel which almost caught on fire as well as a broken water heater. This could have easily been a complete disaster, but We Honey Do sprung into action and really came to my rescue This review may sound a bit dramatic, but it’s true. We Honey Do really has your back!

I had to take a moment to share how great this service is! In particular, Kyle who came to help me hang my flat screen TV. We unpacked everything and then realized that there was an issue with the studs. Kyle was quick to call Eric and over the phone they came up with a solution when we thought there was none. Happily watching my TV right now — beautifully and securely placed on my wall. Thanks guys!

Great service! very satisfied! prices I could afford!
I had a terrible rat problem in my attic and it was a big mess. These guys came and cleaned the mess, and plugged up the holes and set traps. I also had them clean my roof and trim tree branches around the roof. That was almost 9 mos. ago and there has been no return of the critters! If you have ever had that problem you know what a relief it is to have it solved.

This is an honest and reliable company. I’ve got some plumbing and chimney work that needs doing and I am calling We Honey Do, again.

We will not be hiring this company again. I will try to remain objective during this review. This was a re-​model/​repair of our kitchen that had water damage to about one quarter of the kitchen, including about 3 cabinets, the floor, and the corresponding countertop. We decided to re-​do all of the countertops. We were not looking for a complete upgrade/​re-​model of our entire kitchen.
Reason for two stars:
–the estimate was detailed (actually, half a star for this) and competitive with other estimates we received (the other half).
–the final price was $ 200 less than the estimate.
Reason for minus three stars:
–original estimate was for this job to last ~3 ½ days total (Tuesday through Friday morning in mid-​November). The job was finished in the third week of January.
–the project manager stated that the floor (nice looking vinyl, nothing fancy) would be the last thing to be installed. The contractor who showed up on the very first day said the floor needed to be installed first. He installed the floor but then, later in the job as he was installing the cabinets, had to cut out a 3 inch slice to accommodate the position of the cabinets. He then stuck in a non-​matching 3 inch piece to cover up the hole.
–after installing the cabinets, there were two «holes» where the base of the cabinets did not meet up with the existing pieces. He mentioned in passing I could just stick some wood in there to close the holes. One of these holes was remedied by the other guy who worked the job by sticking a piece of wood into the hole and screwing a large black screw through the base trim to secure said piece of wood.
–the cabinets and countertops were not installed to standard height. Standard height in kitchens is ~36 inches. The cabinets and countertops (laminate) were, in the one spot where it mattered, 35 ¼ inches on one side and 35 ³⁄₈ on the other side. In between sat our stove (electric slide-​in). Because of this our stove, even with the legs screwed down as low as they could go, stood up about a half inch above the countertops. This was very noticeable. The solution to this was to remove the legs and stick 1 inch felt pads on the bottom of the oven.
–if you say you’re going to show up at 8:00, show up at 8:00. If you call a little after 8:00 to say you’re going to show up between 9:00 — 9:30, show up between 9:00 — 9:30. If you’re going to show up at 11:42, call.
This company was referred to me by a co-​worker, so maybe it was just luck of the draw on who showed up. Regardless, I was hoping for a little more.

I will recommend that you do not do business with this company.
I called to have 8 light bulbs replaced in a 20+ foot ceiling, repair a leak under a sink, fireplace enclosement repainted, repair the gas regulator on my fireplace, and knocking pipes due to the sprinkler system valves.
Ralph confirmed that there is a $ 300 fee minimum for 3 hours of work and that would be sufficient to finish the requested work order. They replaced the lights, fixed the sink leak and repainted my fireplace enclosement. It cost $ 384 for parts and labor.
They will not fix the gas regulator or the knocking pipes due to the sprinkler valves unless I pay for additional for parts and labor. The labor was confirm during the first call that it would cover all the repairs. This was not true.
Ralph had no solution to my fireplace gas valve or knocking pipes issue, but insisted that I pay for the invoice. There was not attempt to resolve the issue. They just wanted to be paid for a half done job. I have not been contacted about any follow up to the repairs that still have not been repaired. This will be escalated to the BBB.
If you believe that this is a fair rate for the work completed, hire them to do the job. If you do not believe that this is a legitimate rate, do not hire them for the job.

We Honey Do has always performed above our expectations on construction and remodel jobs. I am always surprised at how many services they provide.
I have referred them to many people and have always been thanked for doing so.
