NEW:

I host an open mic every few months for my students at Somar Bar in downtown Oakland. This is a great opportunity to practice performing in a real venue with a group of people who are very supportive. The open mic is LOTS of fun and I take lots of pictures :)

Voice Lessons —

Individual lessons to explore and develop your voice in all contemporary styles and genres. I work mostly with adults (some experienced children) who want to strengthen the voice and learn how to properly sing their particular genre. Lessons are extremely relaxed and informal, after all, I am a professional musician!

Songwriting & Lyric Instruction —

Whether you’re starting from scratch or need to arrange/complete your songs, I will guide you through basic songwriting structures and lyrics writing for all contemporary styles.

Accompaniment While Singing —

Learn to back yourself up on piano/keys or guitar. Very basic and easy to learn methods to make you a completely self sufficient musician.

History

Established in 1997.

I started teaching music in high school, working at performing arts summer camps, directing musical theater. I’ve taught at over 10 schools in England, New York, Washington DC and The SF Bay Area. Locally, I’ve worked for Bandworks, directing bands. Private coaching is my specialty and have worked with hundreds of solo artists, bands and aspiring singer/songwriters.

My students have gone on to be top contestants on American Idol, International Battle of the Bands and some now have major record deals.

In 2006 I was featured on CBS’s Evening Magazine as the Bay Area’s top Contemporary Voice Instructor.

Some of my performance credentials–

Honors Graduate in Performing Arts, Music from Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts. Studied under Paul McCartney, Tracy Chapman, George Martin, and Malcolm Mclaren, to name a few.

Singing professionally in England, Spain, NYC, DC, SF and Las Vegas for over 15 years.

An active performer, recording artist, session singer & producer.

Meet the Business Owner

Lindy L.

Business Owner

A lustrous sheen of shimmering electronic orchestration frames the evocative voice of singer/songwriter Lindy LaFontaine. Segueing effortlessly from an intimate lower timbre into a soaring arc, it is a voice of rare power: It is the sound of her soul.

On her debut solo EP, Lindy worked with a cast of world-class musicians including pianist Patrick Warren (Fiona Apple).

LaFontaine prefers to work at night without a set clock, a consequence, she says, of having grown up in extraordinary locales from Bangladesh to DC; Egypt to CA. At 17, Lindy was the second American to be invited to study at Sir Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) in the UK. Soon after, she toured Spain as a backup vocalist with Chanteuse Maria Jose Hernandez.

Lindy’s new single, «Low» is the 2011 winner for the Independent Music Awards in the «Best Cover» category and is now available to purchase on iTunes!
