Christine is so helpful! i have a leather couch that when you sit, you slowly slide off and the back cushion was sagging terribly. Christine recommended a foam wedge to insert inside the seat cushion to add a lip/​angle. I also got some padding for the back cushion. For about $ 35, the problems were fixed and my couch is so much more comfortable now!

Christine (sp?) is a lovely person and saleswoman! She helped us with getting our sofa cushions re-​foamed and now our coach is like the best thing since sliced bread! :) Very knowledgeable and professional. What a great experience, they were very nice and helpful for my odd shaped boat cushions! I was expecting it to take a while and they were done in like, an hour! they also glued some pieces together to make use of all the foam, so there wasn’t waste! Very nice, and obviously experts, Thanks!

I like this place. I like the name, I like the service and I’ve never been disappointed. The owners or staff are extremely knowledgeable and helpful and their products have always held up. we have had several seat cushions made over the years and they were on time and the right size. If you need foam, this is the place to go.

Great quality here! No trying to «sell» anyone anything that might not be quite right, though various year guarantees are available as well as firmness. Over the years I’ve bought 2 twins, 1 double, 2 queens. All have been quite satisfactory. Way back in the last century I purchased a foam bed here. It lasted forever, quite nicely, and probably is out there in Michigan still in good shape. Choose the higher grade foam and you’ll keep yours forever too.
My current bed and the one that replaces it (larger and now airing, just like a new car’s interior), are fine. I recommend the zippered covers as that keeps material such as hair from becoming embedded in the foam despite homemade covers and quilted mattress pads useage. I haven’t washed mine, as those are new to me. They appear well made, of a good quality material.
Patience is the word here. If a customer comes in and appears pushy, this business will not suit. If one is polite and treats the gentleman courteously, service is stellar. Don’t ask me why he’s that way — it’s nothing personal, just his way of looking at the world. He does enjoy finishing whatever ongoing task he’s involved in before moving on. Once you have his attention, he’s dedicated to you and you only. I’d say that he’s a traditional salesperson, gentleman even, who listens carefully and never tries to «sell», never rushes one, in what can be an influencial purchase on not only one’s wallet but back health.
Berkeley’s like that, full of individuals who value their freedom and integrity over money.

I’m surprised by the negative reviews here. I’m restoring a chair and needed to have cushions cut (in an odd shape). Tom helped me match them exactly, provided all kinds of helpful advice, and had the cushions done in less than 24 hours. I found him knowledgable, friendly, and thought he provided great customer service. The foam was pretty reasonable ($ 100 for 3 cushions, $ 25 of that was because I had to buy an entire roll of thin foam).
I’d definitely use them again!

I bought some foam here a few years ago for some dining chairs and had an odd experience with the guy in the store who I’m assuming is the owner. Rather than being polite, friendly and interested in my business he made me feel as though he was doing me a favor by selling me foam. He complained that I had not given him enough time to cut four chair cushions, but there was no one in the store when I went in and he didn’t appear to be busy at all. He was willing to cut my foam if I was willing to come back in an hour to get them. I had no time to shop around for foam so I agreed. It was expensive and he was a grump.
Fast forward to my most recent visit. I called and asked if they could cut it while I waited, he said yes. He said bring me a pattern. So I took the actual seat cushion thinking this would be the best option. Instead he chided me on not bringing a pattern, refused to remove the foam from the cushion frame, and complained about the old foam possibly getting his store dirty. Rather than drive home to make a pattern, I asked if he had a piece of paper and I volunteered to do it myself on the sidewalk. He gave me a sheet of paper and a pen and away I went to make my pattern, but not before he warned me to not make a mess on the sidewalk.
People, I’m not in the foam business. I do amateur upholstery of thrift store finds. I would expect someone who is in the foam business and must deal with upholstery or upholsterers to know more than me and to maybe throw me a bone when I walk in with the cushion instead of a pattern. What would it have taken for him to do it and create goodwill? Instead, I’m out on the sidewalk ripping open a cushion with my keys.
He cut the foam and I got out of there. I asked how I should dispose of the old foam, thinking possibly he has some recycling bin that would be better than the garbage. But no, he told me to take it home and throw it in my trash.
Foam for one chair, $ 40.00. Last time I will spend my money there.

Bought a Convertabed love-​seat there 3 years ago for $ 750. Opened up the packing and it filled the living room with the scent of formaldehyde for days. I’m not chemically sensitive but it was nasty!
They assured me that was normal.
After a few months the cushions became very soft and unsupportive. (I only weight 155)
I recently looked around at prices on this model and found they go for $ 250-​$ 299. They didn’t even deliver it. We had to borrow a truck and pick it up ourselves.
After buying it I noticed their «No Returns» policy. Beware!

I needed to replace the foam in my too-​soft sofa. From my first phone call, my first visit and the trip to pick up the finished product this company provided excellent customer service. I love my new cushions and this was a great retail experience.
I will be looking to get a chaise cushion here in the summer.

Christine couldn’t be friendlier. She helped me pick out a nice futon of the right firmness that fit my price range and answered all my questions with real thoroughness. Been sleeping well ever since.

Had a very positive experience here with excellent customer service. I know some have complained of being ignored when other customers are there, but I can’t speak to that.
I brought in two couch cushions to get the foam replaced. I was shown a number of options and given lots of information about price, softness, quality, and environmental impact of the various choices. I ended up choosing the middle quality option, which was a bit more expensive than I hoped but still reasonable (a bit more than ordering online, but much faster and I wouldn’t worry about incorrect sizing, etc).
I picked up my refinished couch cushions the next day and they are feeling much better (a little off-​gassing, but that’s the challenge with any new foam unfortunately… and natural latex is much more expensive). I will definitely come back next time I need to replace cushions.

Another great experience. My seat for the window bench is perfectly tailored and it was ready within two weeks. Thank you again, Tom and Christine!

I came into this store because I knew exactly what I was going to purchase.
As some other reviews say, the person works here will ignore you.
He will ignore you if he’s talking to a customer.
He can’t even say hi or anything.
I said hello.
He ignored me.
I said «is there anyone who can help me.»
He finally uttered. «I’m with a customer right now.»
Okay, my question is why is it so hard for you to welcome a customer?
Even if you are with a customer, how long does it take for you just to say «hi» back?
How hard is it for you to just smile at someone who are about to drop some money for your business.
If you just could smile and say «hi, I will be right with you.»
I could wait.
But your attitude really, really, wow, really, pissed me off.
So I left.
I went to a different store on university and I’m so glad I did so.
Remember, what you give is what you get.
And with 3 star average, I don’t think your store deserve «People like us on Unilocal» sticker on the entrance door.
Hope my 1 star review even lowers the average.

We walked in and saw that he was having a conversation with a customer about a futon. We waited for 15 minutes and there was no gesture that he’d be right with us or even any acknowledgement. He passed right by us a couple of times and just nothing. It’s like we were invisible. Another guy came right after us and he left as well because that guy didn’t acknowledge him.
I’m ordering foam online and wait 3 – 5 days to get it than come back there again. If you decide to go there, make sure there are no other customers or you’re shit out of luck.

I had a really great experience with this store. I bought a small mattress some time ago, on which the label read that it was without fire retardants. I happened to stop by year or two later, and mentioned this to the person working there who turned out to be its owner. I was mentioning that I wanted to get a 2^nd mattress for a friend. I was using mine as a bed for my baby, and my friend wanted the same. I talked about how we wanted it to be FR free. She said in fact those mattresses were NOT FR-​free, and apologized. And offered to change out mine. So we discussed the options– FR foam doesn’t come firm as the FR ones. So we got something a little thicker to jam into the existing cover.
And we did the same for my friend’s as well. Later she called and we had some back and forth on the phone to finalize the color, etc.
Five days later I got a call. I went in and got it changed out, and voila.

i came across Famous Foam Factory while on my route. Papa bear was curious about foam. they sell «memory foam» here. memory foam reverts back to it’s original shape once one gets off the mattress.

I went in recently, on a whim, to maybe find a piece of scrap foam to use on a stool. The same guy, whom I complained about before, was actually pleasant and helpful, and gave me a piece of scrap foam for 50 cents. Last time, he was charging a lot, just for the scraps. Go figure.
I don’t know where else to go for foam, so I guess every time I need foam, I’ll just have to hope that he’s in a good mood.

Went to the store at 1:15pm on a Monday. Neon sign in window was illuminated OPEN, but the hang tag on door said «be back at 2:00.» Huh. Well, I figured maybe they only have 1 employee and they need lunch, so I went for coffee and came back 45 minutes later. Finally open, with 2 employees. So, lunch is more important to them than business.
Upon entering Store, no greeting from Salesman who was discussing something with fellow employee. Following conversation, he made a phone call while I wandered around store. Huh. After 15 minutes this guy finally comes over to the bed I’m now sleeping on. Tell him exactly what I want, have cash in hand. «No discount for cash.» Really? No. Same as credit card. I guess they keep the processing fee instead. Lowest price $ 1580 plus tax and a 2-​week wait.
Drove across bridge and purchased same mattress for $ 300 less at
on Howard St, who does offer a cash discount.
Lunch comes before business? No cash discount? No customer greeting upon entry? Must be Stanford Alum.

I called Famous Foam to inquire about rates to replace a piece of foam from a chair damaged — you guessed it — by cat piss. As an aside — I will be so glad when George turns 6 next year and outgrows the whole bladder crystal blockage thing.
Anyway, the shop was super nice — listened to my complaint, made constructive suggestions and was very clear about price, policies and such. I went in today and met Tom — he was professional, friendly & efficient. The shop is so tidy and well organized. I’m really glad that I brought in the old cushion — for $ 2, they send it to be recycled into floor padding (better than sending to the landfill!). I have a new cushion and am now waiting for my covers to come back from the cleaner… yay! thanks, guys!

So, foam is kind of expensive. I just wanted to put that out there for those unfamiliar with the world of upholstery repair.
However, Tom made our experience as painless as possible. We brought in some couch cushions which had piss-​bombed by unhappy felines, and he helped replace that which needed replacing with minimum financial distress. He made precise measurements, helped us select the cheapest viable option, and then cut it to order while we waited. He also gave us some plastic sheeting, gratis, to wrap around the foam inside the cushion cover in order to protect it from any future incursions of urine. Nice!
(Unfortunate Epilogue: Despite our best efforts, and through no fault of FFF, the couch only survived another 6 months. Damn cats.)
